Alux thanks again, seems like you know me already ! Thanks also to logic and tinker re: dd sleeping with us, it's nice to know that other feels and do the same. First baby is so hard, harder than I thought...I never thought that I would feel all of these emotions and have all of these worries....suppose the rest are easier..then again x

Potty Training - Day 2(couldnt possible post on day one) is going really well. I put big-boy pants on ds yesterday, and sent him downstairs while i fed dd, and my heart sank when i could smell that familiar smell coming from the living room BUT when i got down it was all in the potty, with NO help or encouragement from mummy atall, I nearly fainted. Gave him loads of hugs and attention, and he insisted on squeezing out another one a few minutes later. This is from the boy who shook his head and said "oh no thank you" any time I said I'd take his nappy off. I am very happy today.
DD is 8wks today, she is very long, but petite, totally unlike myself.
We're having a really easy fun time atm, playschool is finished for the summer so its lazy days for a while.
Like alot of us, I pop in and catch up most days but just dont have time to post. I am so glad we are all here, and not due this month .

Brighteyes · 01/07/2005 10:39

Shhhh, I've also got dd in with me at the moment. Sometimes in our bed and the rest of the time in the moses basket beside the bed (depending if she will settle in the basket or not).

We're also stuck in the 11pm trap and have no idea how to get out of it. It seems dd isn't aware its night time until I'm almost falling asleep myself. On the positive side she will stay in bed/basket until 8am (waking for ten mins feed at 2.30 and 5.30)

LittleB · 01/07/2005 12:57

took dd for her first swim today, she enjoyed it, although we were only in for a few mins as its quite cold and she's only little - 7wks (was told at 6wk check this is fine and they don't usually poo in th water anyway, but get swim nappies - -jojomamanbaby do lovely ones - dd is a 'funky daisy'.
we don't have a routine yet as she's between 6 and 7 feeds a day, so she goes to bed between 8.30 and 10.30, wakes for a feed after about 5 hours, then up again at 6-7 for a feed after that she comes in to bed with us while i doze a bit more! Planning on keeping her in our room until 5-6mths, in moses basket until she's too big then her cot. I'll go back to work when she's 7 months so hopefully she'll have settled in her own room by then.
dd gets a bit colicky too, she has trapped wind - she's a really farty baby, she farts when she wakes up like her dad . i find gripewater helps her, although she still gets it a bit.
I know all about dead arms and learning to do things one handed too - takes ages to type though!

18mumtobe · 01/07/2005 17:28

hi everyone

hope all is well with all mums and babies.

im fine and matthew is fine too. i have switched him to cow and gate formula now as i kept getting infections in my breasts, and he seems more contented and happy now between feeds and is going to the toilet more regularly and seems to be in less pain with his wind. so thats working out well for, as i also feel better in myself as i think breast feeding was just taking too much from me.

we had a scare on wednesday, i took him to the gp as hv suggested it as i was worried about his breathing. and found that he had a tmperature and was breathing too fast, so she sent us up the hospital to get him checked over, but it turns out that he just has a cold and that his breathing should get better when it goes, they did a chest x-ray to be sure that his lungs and that are ok and they said they are fine. (thank god for that) i am concerned that he will have asthma because both me and dp had it when we were young(dp had it very badly as a baby) and its very strong on both sides of the family. but fingers crossed he will be fine.

but apart from that everything is good. he has been so good today, ive managed to have a bath in peace and get some house work done, its a miracle.

matthew is still sleeping through from about 11 ish until about half 6 most nights, sometimes he wakes around 3-4 ish but i just put him in bed with us and he goes off again quick quickly. we still have him in with us and are planning to until hes about 3 mths (when i go back to college) his maoning and grunts still wake me sometimes but im to scared to put him in on his own yet (hes only 3 wks old) so i just put up with it.

take care all xxx

Hi

Just found this website with info about colic

netdoctor infant colic

fisil · 01/07/2005 19:54

I'm jealous of all of you getting more than 3 hours of consecutive sleep! ds2 is really big, but just does not ever seem to be able to go more than 3 hours between feeds . We're off on holiday next week and then as soon as we get back he's going on the bottle. Maybe then he'll sleep better at night. I will certainly be more relaxed cos I find bottle feeding much more convenient (peverse, I know).

Not potty training yet. DS1 is very articulate and has made it clear that he is staying in nappies for the time being because he likes the attention when he gets his nappy changed. And I can see from his behaviour that he needs that attention right now!

Myermay, our naming ceremony was based on the service of thanksgiving for the gift of a child from the anglican service book. We had it in church - last one was led by our vicar, this one by a lay reader as we're between vicars. We are regular churchgoers (me and the boys) but dp is atheist and we agree that the boys should be brough up with a faith, but should be free to accept or reject it. That's why they weren't baptised, but why it was quite a religious affair. We had 3 supporting friends - 2 whose responsibility is to help him make his decisions about beliefs etc. and 1 whose job it is to make him feel special and to make a big fuss of him (at the expense of his brother - a very important quality in godparents!). They all call themselves godparents, btw! So we had a quick 15 min service with readings, hymns and a prayer then a big party in the church hall! Anyway, curry's here - ask more questions about the baby naming!

ABow, which pool did you take baby to? Was it warm enough, and how long did you stay? We live near Aberdeen, and I would love to take dd swimming. Btw. the HV said that there is no risk of polio, as the vacine is not a live vacine anymore(not like a couple of years ago). DD is 8 weeks old now, but I havent done the vacine yet, as we are off on hols next week, and I dont want her getting a temperature ...we'll do it when we get back.

muppety · 02/07/2005 13:59

Gosh I am jealous about the sleep too. Unfortunately giveing bottle formula at night has not helped at all. Last night fed 1030pm then 130, 330 then hourly! Actually no better than 6 weeks ago. I am studying Gina today.

ABow · 02/07/2005 19:23

Claudi2, we went to the new Robert Gordons pool and were probably in the water for 20-30 mins. The Stonehaven open air pool is open this month and if the weather stays good I'd like to try that.

LittleB · 04/07/2005 16:16

Thanks for the colic info abow. We've just had a session on baby massage at our post natal class and they taught us some massages to help colic. Is it true that they will grow out of it by 3 months? I hope so, dd doesn't get it alot, just a couple of times a day for maybe 10mins but she seems to be in so much pain when she does have it. Tried to switch her to reusable nappies at the weekend but we had a few problems - I posted on the nappies section - so we're going to have to take things more slowly.

ABow · 05/07/2005 08:41

What problems did you have with the reusable nappies littleb? Which brand are you using?

LittleB · 05/07/2005 11:58

Hi Abow. I had her in motherease with air flow wrap during the day then put her in size 1 tots bots with tots bots fleece wrap at night. In the evening she was pretty restless which she is sometimes, but when we put her to bed in her tots bots she wouldn't settle. We'd get her off to sleep and she'd wake up crying in minutes, i gave up after 1 1/2 hours, put her in disposables and she settled straight away. She is only small, 7 1/2 weeks and 9 1/2 lbs and they do look big and bulky on her, I think she just felt different. I asked for suggestions and someone said use something else under the wraps, so I may try using a couple of boosters and muslins/terries under the wrap, or just get her used to them gradually, have her in them a couple of hours a day, gradually building up. I won't try until next week as we're away this weekend - staying in a cottage by the sea with no electricity! I'll let you know how she gets on.

Preggars · 06/07/2005 18:47

Dearest May Mums

Sorry, not logged on for a while, but hope you are all well, and that all your babies are well too.

Was interested to read that Northstar is potty training. I have now finally attempted and succeeded potty training DS1 (who is 2years8months), and introduced a bottle once a day of expressed milk to DD. She had her 6 week check today and is 12pounds! All on breast milk, obviously full cream .

LittleB, I didn't think babies could go swimming until they'd had their injections?? I could have sworn someone told me that last time round? Can't think why though.. I would love to take my DD as she loves bath time.

claudi2 · 07/07/2005 09:04

Hi, everyone, just to let you know that I will not be posting for the next 2 weeks since we are of to Spain ... the flight will take 12 hours, as we have 2 stopovers but I'm sure DD will be fine. Had to take her to Belgium 3 days ago, as my mum was not well and I thought dd was very easy to travel with ... just put a boob in her mouth whenever she was grumpy .... all Gina principles went right out the window, but dd was very content!
ABow, if you would like we could meet up and go swimming with our babies ... Stonehaven isnt far away from me ....but it will have to be in 2 weeks time as we are on hols tomorrow.

LittleB · 07/07/2005 14:37

Preggars, my health visitor said it's good to take them swimming before their injections as they still have the immunity from us, this lasts at least 2 months which is why they have the injections then. We only go in for about 10mins but she does seem to enjoy it, looks around alot and kicks about, I enjoy it to as it gives me something different to do with her. She'll start proper lessons at 6 months but we just go and play at the moment! Off to pack as we are off on hols tomorrow, only 5 days in North Devon but we're looking forward to it.

Preggars · 09/07/2005 10:28

Wish I'd know that LittleB. The level of information from Health Visitors differs immensley doesn't it. Like last time, mine is invisible again, and just lets me get on with it. I've had to chase about joining postnatal group again (as although I still meet up all the time with the first bunch from my son, I have moved since then, and its a great way to meet new people).

I'm thinking about moving to bottle next week? Although my daughter now (sometimes) takes a bottle, she shows massive preference for breast, and I am so fearful of getting stuck breastfeeding like I did with my DS1. I couldn't ween him off, and then finally before I went back to work at 6 months I had to make him go cold turkey. Worst thing I've ever had to go through with him - took 22 hours to take a bottle).

Has anyone else moved to full bottle recently?

logic · 09/07/2005 16:06

Hi everyone,

I've had to buy some Onmeo Comfort milk that the HV recommended because she will just not stop screaming. I can't stand it - it's day and night. I'm getting about 3 hours sleep a night atm!

Holly290505 · 10/07/2005 21:22

Hi all. Hope May mums and babies are well and thriving.

Ruby is now 4 weeks old, 57 com long and 8lb 6oz. She is starting to put weight on fast now but was slow to regain after going from 8lb born to 7lb6. MW put this down to less milk due to stress. Not surprising as when Ruby was 2weeks old we went home to find the locks changed.

Some of u might remember the problems we were having with my mother when she came back from Oz unannounced in April whilst we were living in their house looking after it while they were away. Well things got worse and the upshot was getting thrown out and being given 24hrs to get all our things out. We have been living at dp's folks house and arranging a mortgage for our own place. Hopefully be sorted soon.

Anyway Ruby is a very contented baby (surprisingly!)who sleeps and feeds well. love to all x

ABow · 10/07/2005 21:23

Hi Claudi2 That would be great. Let me know when you get back!

ABow · 10/07/2005 21:36

Logic - I feel for you. I hope you start getting more sleep soon. Let us know how the comfort milk works.

Holly290505 - sending you sympathy vibes too. I fell out with my parents last week too but nowhere near as stressful as what you've been going thro. They were supposed to moving near to us after selling their house in North Devon. But after 3 very strained weeks of temporarily staying with us, they have now left and I don't think we are on speaking terms. For a while I thought my milk was going to dry up with all the stress. But they have only been gone 10 days and my milk flow has improved no end. I'm sure yours will too. But after 30+ years of fretting about keeping dm happy, one night recently I had an epiphany - Dh and dd are all that is important. Such a simple thing but having come to terms with that I feel much better

shhhh · 10/07/2005 23:41

Logic, sorry to hear about your lack of sleep. It seems that our dd was the same (i'm not saying that too loudly for fear she may hear !) We couldn't seem to fill her up and at 5 weeks she was around 9lb and already on a 6oz bottle ! Anyway as she was putting on the weight she lost since the birth we weren't to concerned on those lines but were were concerned over our lack of sleep LOL ! Anyway we have been using Omneo comfort for the last 3 weeks and it's been brilliant...concerning at first as she has V V V V V loose movements and was sick quite a bit but it seems this is normal and due to the fact that it's more of a bulkier feed so more filling. It's also suitable for a loctose intollerant (?) baby.
We used it due to her not being full or content on the usual green cow and gate thus the change.
All has settled down now and she is content having alternate feeds still of formula and breast. In fact I now quite like breast feeding dd as it makes me feel close..

Is it just me or does anyone else want bf to last ?? I'm on doing a couple of bf a day but I don't want it to end and also I hate the idea of anyone else bottle feeding dd??? Am I going mad.??!

logic · 11/07/2005 07:30

Oh Holly (and Abow), that must have been really stressful...

I want to keep bfing for a bit too Shhhh, it's so convenient at night. Think she might be picking up on my stress levels too because she settles much better for dh. Still, I've got the HV coming back today to do my Edinburgh test. She has been really good.

18mumtobe · 11/07/2005 09:55

sorry to hear your having a stressful time holly and abow. hope things get sorted soon.

hope the new milk works out better for you logic and you get more sleep soon.

well matthew is doing good, he seems to be getting over his cold now and seems to be settling much better, i can put him down and he goes off to sleep by himself which is so good and he dosne't always have his dummy now.

take all xxx

18mumtobe · 11/07/2005 09:55
