traceface · 19/06/2009 19:37

hello
last night I tried to repeat Wednesday's go-back-to-sleep-without-a-feed...she cried in my arms for 5 mins then calmed down, I put her back in the cot and she went back to sleep but only for 20 minutes Then she was even more upset so I fed her! Then she woke at 12.30 and 3.30am for feeds then slept till 7am . Today she has had a total of 50mins napping due to various external factors preventing her sleeping (me taking her to baby group, me taking her to my friend's for lunch...) so by 6pm she was exhausted. She had a quick bath and feed and was zonked by 6.15 and I haven't heard a peep since! Not sure what that'll do to the rest of the evening and night but I'll find out soon enough!
DH and dd1 are out delivering dinner to my friend with the breast cancer. She had her op last week and thought that would be all, but has today been told that there were precancerous cells at the edge of the tumour (so some could be left in her breast still) and cancer cells in her lymph glands too, so she now has to have 6 months of chemo, then a mastectomy then 2 months of radiotherapy She can have a reconstruction after that if she wants. She is an amazing woman (she has 5 kids!!!!) and is being so strong - she's a strong Christian and is trusting God and taking each day one at at time - very inspiring.
Kayz sorry you're still in pain. Will you get any physio?

traceface · 19/06/2009 19:40

and Kayz what is a cross stitch birth sampler?!
PD thanks for reminding me about father's day. Looks like I've missed the boat on getting my card to my dad on time...again

Olipop · 19/06/2009 19:55

Evening ladies, Olipop is posting so it must be Friday and there for, Poker Night for DH!

I have had a little scan and have some measly responses!

Dummies - DS (3 1/2) stilllllll has one but only for bedtime. I can't even begin to imagine taking it away and I'm not too worried about it. My brother had one til he was 7 and he seems a reasonable, well adjusted lad with nice teeth!!!!!!

Kayz - sorry you're in pain. Hope it improves with lots of drugs!

CC - I did this with DS and it was really hard but it did work. He got to crazy levels of clingyness before I did it. I can't think how old he was except that I was putting together his high chair so must have been around 6 months. He would only go to sleep lying on the bed with his nose touching mine and holding onto big clumps of my hair. It was one of those 'How on earth did we get to this' points when you just think that something has to give. Not a nice experience but it didn't take long. One hint I have is to do it when your DH isn't there if possible. It appears that I can be a tough old thing on my own but if he is there I am unable to be so strong. Strange I know but true!

Right, brain now empty! Hope I haven't missed anything major!

Kayzr · 19/06/2009 20:04

Trace, Here is a birth sampler. This is the one i like. i've just started a big cross stitch and now i can't do it.

EffiePerine · 19/06/2009 20:12

Trace: sounds like things are slowly improving on the sleep front for you . As for us - well DS2 has woken up again (DH is brewing wine in the bathroom and disturbed him) so he is sat on my knee goggling at the screen.

Hellooo Oli!

daisydora · 19/06/2009 20:20

trace your friend from church sounds so strong! Faith is a great comforter at hard times, she sounds amazing.

DS cried himself to sleep again tonight at bedtime (only a few minutes). He just fights sleep so much

DH is trying to talk me into buying a tent. I do like camping and we normally borrow a tent from my parents but now we are 4 we could do with a bigger one of our own. Anyone into camping/recommendations for a tent for a family of 4?

daisydora · 19/06/2009 20:24

effie wine in the bathroom ????

My dad used to brew beer and keep it in the cupboard under the stairs.

EffiePerine · 19/06/2009 20:39

We already have beer in the cupboard under the sink - wine is an experiment apparently... lots of boiling water being carried up and down. He has books. Ordered from the internet. Written by men with dodgy teeth and 70s hair.

DS has started babbling a bit - sooo cute . He says Dada (no sign of Mama yet ) and Goo. Obv set for Mensa

Verso · 19/06/2009 21:00

This Tuesday past was when I was meant to hear... but I finally heard today! I got the one I wanted (the one with FOUR interviews) . Am waiting to get it in writing before telling work though. AM SO HAPPY!

veggie triathlon?! Wow. Am v impressed! I'd also been wondering idly about the dummy situation but as DD2 doesn't have it that often I've been reasonably laid back about it.

zj love your comment about signals!

trace yes, DH is going part-time from September. He'll be at work two days a week and at home three days a week. He's just realised he needs to get a recipe book as I don't intend to cook dinner every single night! Any recommendations of good (ie not too poncey!) recipe books?

Verso · 19/06/2009 21:08

trace missed your post about your friend with breast cancer. It must be so difficult. Cancer is one of the last taboos I think, even though it's relatively common. Lovely idea to take her dinner round for her. That's the sort of thing people should do for new Mums!

kayz I also missed what happened to your wrist?

effie your wine/bathroom comment made me nostalgic as my Dad would stash evil-smelling, explosive demi-johns all round the house with his home-made "wine" - elderflower, apple etc. I was too young to taste it but I seem to recall a James Herriot story about home brew which got a few chuckles of recognition from family members who had survived tastings.

Nolda · 19/06/2009 21:22

Congratulations on the job, Verso .

On the recipe book front, I can recommend this one.

Got to go, my chinese takeaway has just arrived [yum].

Kayzr · 19/06/2009 21:25

Not sure Verso, the GP thinks it is from playing on the wii. DH thinks it is because i've done a lot of cross stitching the past few weeks. But it is sprained and should be ok in a week or so.

So fabulous about your job!!!!

Olipop · 19/06/2009 21:38

Well done on the job Verso!
Recipe books - I love all my Tana Ramsey ones.
Heading off to bed shortly to read a book under the covers with a torch (Heidi is still in situ). Makes me feel like a kid again but I get a bit of an achey neck!

zoejeanne · 19/06/2009 22:02

Just totally misread Oli?s post and her comment about having a little scan ? I thought she was our first Dec 08 Mum to be expecting another!

Congratulations to Verso, you star! I bet it will be very satisfying to tell work And on recipe books, I?d recommend Ainsley Harriott, I?m not a fan of him on TV, but his recipes are quick, easy and never fail

Indith your post made me laugh, with all your comments from your notes (esp. What is sex? right in the middle of it all). Your poor DS with his night terrors, they can?t be fun for him at all. Is he likely to grow out of them?

Trace your poor friend, I have my fingers crossed that she will recover well. I think your meal rota is fab and must save a lot of poorly people/new mums etc from food insanity. Is P still asleep now? I hope so

Kayz that sampler is really cute, how long will it take? I wish I had the patience to do something like that

On Fathers Day, DH and I had a disagreement about it this week. He?s been dropping hints for some quite big pressies, when I don?t think he should get a big present as it?s not as if DD has any say in it this year and gets to choose it, so essentially it will be a big pressie from me. And its his birthday in 10 days, so I suggested he wait until then. Am I being mean? (I got a box of chocolates for mothers day, and for my birthday just a card from DD, so I don?t think I am)

Right, off to get another biscuit, ta ra

Veggiemummy · 19/06/2009 22:08

Hooray on the job Verso well done.

DH's work has made him exempt from the 12 no pay leave thing. They are making all testers with high rates of chargable work, and well basically people they are scared will just walk out and get another job, exempt.

I got my groceries including 2 G&B blocks delivered at 10am and they are already gone. I'm so weak!

Veggiemummy · 19/06/2009 22:21

ZJ a box of chocolates!!!! You gave up your body for 9 months for his child, he got some sex at the beginning of it! His had his present. DH got breaky in bed and a plate with DS2's footprints on it and a ceramic fighter jet painted mostly by DS1 (and chosen by him). We had fathers day last sunday cos DH will be away this Sunday.

Verso I love recipe books and have loads. However, most recipes I use are off the Internet. The easiest think to do is type in an ingredient and see what comes up. So if you have some lamb just type in 'lamb recipes' see what comes out and choose.

SummerLightning · 19/06/2009 22:26

Evening all,
Quickly:
Verso, fab fab hooray for new job!! Well done, and after all those interviews too.
Cooking books, I like anything by Nigel slater, in particular the 30 minute cook, also the Donna Hay books which are aussie Marie Claire I think. I think Jamie O's Ministry of Food gets good reviews for simple recipes as well. I have loads of cooking books, oh also the Kitchen Revolution for meal planning and making meals from leftovers is good too. Plus Madhur Jaffreys Curry Bible for curry!!

Veggie, hooray for triathlons! I really miss lots of exercise so I think it is a good thing to get back into it
I am desperately trying to get fit now as I still can't keep up with all my mostly bloke biking mates, and I want to go on holiday for 4 days to the Pyrenees in Sept and I must be fitter in order to survive if I do!

ZJ I think your DH is being cheeky. Knowing blokes he probably wants a plasma TV or something. I have got DH a mug made with E's handprints on. He will love it I hope. He will also get a lie in and me being nice to him which he will probably appreciate more than the mug!

Oh and on the crying, I regularly leave DS to cry if I know he's tired and not hungry . However, I don't think he's a big cryer compared to some babies, so I think his crying is maybe easy to swallow, ie, it's just strong grumbling. And if it goes on for ages I go to him but he usually settles down.

Oh and sex - still not very up for it. Though did have a fruity dream the other night, but no opportunity to act on it....

Right prob missed loads but am gonna post this anyway and going to sleep now.

SummerLightning · 19/06/2009 22:31

oops LadyTitis strikes back.
I did press post twice, thought it wasn't working.

SummerLightning · 19/06/2009 22:34

Oh and Kayz I have one of those cross stitch jobbies, which was given to my mum when i was born within my sight here in my parents house! I was only 5lbs 13oz, what a little titch!
SO I think it's a great idea.

daisydora · 20/06/2009 05:05

verso fab news on the job!

Well DS has been up since 4 He woke at 3, he had a bit of calpol and a feed as he was really screaming, and went back off no problems. Hooray I thought but no such luck. 4am cue manic screaming, refusal to go back in his cot, be held or anything. So we came downstairs and he is now cooing awawy playing with his packet of baby wipes. No doubt he will be asleep again at 6ish leaving me with DD. DH working all weekend so no chance of help from him. Oh god I'm crying now....off to get a strong coffee and pull myself together.

Kayzr · 20/06/2009 05:56

Morning,

Daisy Sorry you have been up most of the night.

Zoe It will probably take about 3-4 weeks, but then I'll have to wait until she has the baby to add the final touches.

I went to bed at quarter to 10 and DH was right, I have woken up early. Plus as I was coming downstairs DS1 started yelling out for me.

Hope everyone is ok!!

daisydora · 20/06/2009 07:17

Right so DS has gone back to bed, but DD up now wanting to play. DH at work in an hour and I am so tired right now I feel ill - headache, sore eyes, achy limbs.

Anyone got any Red Bull/Pro Plus/anything????

daisydora · 20/06/2009 07:21

Gosh my posts sound really self-pitying I do apologise

Not a clue what to get DH for Fathers Day, I'll have to venture to the shops if I feel brave enough later.

spotofcheerfulness · 20/06/2009 08:11

Oh Daisy that is so rubbish, I'm so sorry. Don't apologise at all, of course you're going to feel terrible after a night like that, who wouldn't? I'm afraid I haven't got any caffeine other than coffee, but I do have cake if that would help?
T has started waking early (between 4 and 5) and not wanting to get up for the day (he is obviously still tired) but can take an hour and a half to get him back to sleep. I haven't fed him as he is never hungry in the morning and we'd managed to drop the 4/5am feed (he has one at 10.30) but he still seems programmed to wake up then even if he doesn't want to feed...

In approx one hour I am leaving the house and spending the night camping in the New Forest with some friends - the first time I'll have left T for more than a couple of hours. It was meant to be last night as well but I chickened out as I thought I'd miss him too much and wasn't fair on DP to leave him while he's not sleeping brilliantly at night. When I agreed to this a couple of months ago I foolishly assumed he'd be sleeping through by now. .

Better go, I hear a triangular poo, have great weekends all.Oh, and congrats on job Verso, that's really great news .
