Merci beaucoup, meep and slick, for the Glaswegian links! I shall pass them on to my friend.

Just picked Rhys up from his second day of "adaptation" at the nursery -- he stayed 30 minutes yesterday and an hour today. He's a sociable little guy, and hasn't shown his demonic side to the two caregivers yet, so they are charmed by his big blue eyes. We'll see what happens when they actually have to put him down for a nap!

The moderately good news is that since my mum is here and is staying until I get back from my business trip to the US, we've decided that he will only go to the nursery in the morning for the first two weeks, and she'll take care of him in the afternoon. That gives DP and me some time to see how we can sort out our schedules to keep him from having really long days there afterward.

(He was sporting a huge scratch on his cheek when I picked him up. Caregivers said he caught himself with his fingernail, but it seems way bigger than anything he's done that way before. HATE having to take someone's word about what's happened to my wee little man!)

meep · 26/08/2009 11:51

corgi his caregivers will have numerous tricks to get him to sleep - and will never tell you if it has been really difficult - I am only finding out now how much shushing and rocking dd1 got when she decided at 1yo that she would NOT sleep at nursery (had slept fine to start with) - all because I now know the girls there really well so they chat quite openly with me!

As for nursery injuries - dd1 is best friends with a "biter" - just wait till you put your pfb in the bath and discover teeth marks!

Only managing to get on here for little bits throughout the day so sorry if I haven't caught up with all posts/news/disasters/amusing stories.........!

Haven't read last few posts will do in a mo.

BUT WHERE CAN I PUT DS SO HE BLOODY STAY THERE ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

Bouncy chair - gone he kept leaning forward for his dropped toys and nearly falling out.

Floor - I'm fed up with digging him out of corners, under chairs.

Donut thing - today keeps pushing himself over the side and rolling around floor as above.

He only 5mths why couldn't i have at least one child that stayed where they put for more then 5 mths.

meep · 26/08/2009 13:54

one of these - we've just got ours out - Rosie is a wee bit wee for it, but if he likes standing he'll like this!

or a door bouncer thing?

Have you got a play pen/travel cot? That would keep him safe if you need to get on with things?

Rosie is definitely moving more than her big sister did - her head stays in one place and her body moves round in a circle !

OP posts:
lizziemun · 26/08/2009 14:47

No room for playpen unfortunly. Door Bouncer hmm I think dd2 (2 week on monday) would try to bounce him through the ceiling .

I had hoped after having 2 who where walking by 9mths i would get an easier one this time.

Missmodular

Robbie sleeping on his tummy and sleeping through since he learnt to roll over at 9wks. Also squished into a corner of his cot since he learnt to move but that a whole another story .

meep · 26/08/2009 15:00

ah yes - dd1 can be a little bit "playful" when Rosie is in teh door bouncer!

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 26/08/2009 16:17

Lizzie - I have just this morning picked up one of the sorts of things that Meep linked to, for the very same reason - despit having a huge play mat down L still seems to spend more time covered in red fluff from our rug or under the sofa (oops). I got it off ebay, think I paid a bit too much but she seems to love it and it keeps her in one place so worth it I think. I didn't bother with dd1 as she loved the donut thing but L is not at all keen. She's not too keen on the bumbo either - arches out of it.

Right dd1 is at a friend's so I should be tidying not plying about on MN. First proper try of the activity station thing to see what I can get done (if only to prove to dh its worth the money and space....... am going to see if he notices it when he gets home. tee hee.)

emma2617 · 26/08/2009 16:49

OH MY GOD!!! I cant believe I only just refound mumsnet and now you lot! You may or may not remember me, lol!

After my birth story I went AWOL, had a lot of issues after the birth and was diagnosed with PND. Only just starting to feel human again...its been a hard 6 months!!

Sooo, how is everyone? I feel like I have gone back in time seeing all your names again! It's made me so happy!

3cutedarlings · 26/08/2009 17:50

((((((Emma))))))))) tis ok to go awol, ive only just returned after being awol!!! lol. great to see you, so come on then fill us in? whats been happening for the last 6 mths!!!

Oh and there are up to date piccys of my 3 cute darlings on my profile

emma2617 · 26/08/2009 18:07

Well!!! Quite a lot...but at the moment I am having a pregnancy scare, lol!! Have an appt tomorrow for beta HCG blood test to find out either way as it took so long to get a positive on HPT with Luca and I have already gone more crazy waiting 2 weeks so far and doc is worried about my state of mind if I have to wait another 2 weeks!!

My little man is growing so quickly (well as much as all our little darlings!!) He is sitting for short periods of time and is desperate to crawl, he assumes the position but just cant move anywhere!

We are weaning at the moment but I am hating it! Can't wait for it to be over and he just eats food!

I can't wait to get caught up on everyones goings on!!!

3cute your cute darlings are indeed cute! Your youngest is adorable!!!

Slickbird · 26/08/2009 18:08

Hey Emma Glad to have you back. I was wondering if you'd ever re-join us. Hope things are going well for you now. let us know what's been happening.

laumiere · 26/08/2009 19:21

No-sleeping baby-mums, I have to concur that I reckon our two slept so well as they were front sleepers from a very early age.

Gabe woke at 4am today for no reason, and has been really fussy all day, I wonder if the overcast weather is the culprit.

Got to go, cookies for DS1 in the oven!

jollyjoanne · 26/08/2009 20:09

Right fingers crossed for the computer working long enough for me to get this posted.

I can no longer remember who I've ctually managed to respond to and who I haven't becos the puter died, so apologies I am not purposely ignoring people.

Well Mae has now done a couple of sessions at nursery and has another one tomorrow. It isn't going great, she has been refusing to take a bottle from anyone who works there. But ever the optimist I presume when she gets hungry enough she will.

Emma so nice to hear from you again.

Mae has a door bouncer and a jumperoo thing and she loves them both! So can totally recommend them.

Really getting fed up about work, no-one is willing to provide me with the details I need to make a decision and it is getting annoying.

mdavza · 26/08/2009 21:55

Need advice: since Ben istartwd rolling all over the place a couple of weeks ago, we've put a pillow on one side of him and a light sheet overthat tucked into the cot to keep him from rolling over and waking up. But for his naps he is 'free' and he usually wakes up on his tummy. Now I'm too scared to take away the night-time props in case he wakes up from all the motion, but at some stage he needs to sleep without them?! Any suggestions? Thanx

3cutedarlings · 26/08/2009 23:05

mdavza once a LO can roll over it fine for them to sleep on side/tummy ect tbh it is more dangerous to place things inside of cot as far as SIDS is concerned. So just place DS on his back feet to bottom of cot, blanket ect under mattress and he will be fine .

Boobz · 27/08/2009 08:33

Emma! Can't believe you're back! You were such a prolific poster - we need to hear all your news! And I can't believe you might be pregnant again already - mad.

Can't believe we're all getting to rolling / weaning / crawling already etc. Penny has no teeth yet but seems to be teething as is droolwing and hand chewing all over the place. I think I am going to stop BF-ing by the time I go back to work in 3 weeks time... she'll have had a good 6 months of pretty much exclusive BF-ing by then (apart from the recent 11am bottle we've introduced) so I feel like I've given her a good start.

Quick question for the mums who have rolling babies. Pen has worked out how to roll onto her front but not the other way around, so now gets stuck every time she rolls onto her front! I've tried dangling a toy over a shoulder to try and get her to crane her neck to see it and roll back, to no avail. I have to save her about 5 times an hour on the play mat... how long does it take them to learn to roll back? Should I just leave her and see what happens - I'm assuming me flipping her over each time is stopping her from learning how to do it herself, but she just wails pathetically - help me muuuummmmyyyy! Silly sausage.

Back to work in 3 weeks. I could cry.

P.S. Kanga I have also done the boob thing whilst on the road and Penelope in the car seat. Classic.

meep · 27/08/2009 09:06

welcome back emma! Wow to possibly being pregnant and really sorry to hear you had such a hard 6 months - have been there so you have all my sympathy and understanding.

boobz can't help with the rolling as it is all new to me - dd1 just didn't roll ever (until now as at 2.3 she loves to roll around the room !)

I was always told that once they can roll int is fine to let them sleep on their tummys.

Can't believe it is back to work time for some. I left Rosie with some of the nursery girls when I was collecting Emily - she didn't cry even when she could/could not see me - so fingers crossed it goes okay.

For some reason I am finding it hard to leave Rosie. With dd1 I thought she was so grwon up at 6mo - but for some reason no.2 seems so little in comparison.

Love the pics 3cute - so smiley!

One of my friends put it in a nutshell:

" with no 1 they grow up because of you and with no.2 they grow up despite you"!!!

OP posts:
Slickbird · 27/08/2009 09:53

Ahh, Emma This is what I've missed! All the exclamation marks in your postings!!!!!! Always makes me smile. Comes across as very enthusiastic!

I cross-post with your last one there. So you think you may be pg? Was it planned for you? Hope you are happy if you are.

Re: rolling. I'm always perplexed when books say that babies may roll from front to back first. Mine have always rolled back to front and then taken a bit of time to go on to their back again. DD1 rolled at 5.5 months, DD2 took about 7 months and HHB rolled at about 4.5 months. They all started teething at 2 months and DD1 got teeth at 6 months, DD2 9.5 months and HHB 5 months. DD1 walked at 14 months, DD2 (Who seems to take longer to do EVERYTHING!) about 16 months and I reckon HHB will be on his feet within a year so he can join in!

I guess my ramble is trying to say that even within your own, they can all do things at different stages and now I just go with the flow and see what happens next. I know someone, Boobz was it? was wondering why others had teeth and not hers! But I have a theory that if they are not working on that, they are busy working on something else. My eldest's wee friend had amazing speech by 1.2 years, but had no teeth and took her longer to get to her feet. Whereas DD1 had lots of teeth and was pretty quick once she got going, but the speech took longer. I wonder if the brain can only concentrate on so many things at one time.

That of course doesn't explain things for DD2 tho!

emma2617 · 27/08/2009 10:34

Yes...I do have an affinity for exclamation marks! I quite often finish with a full stop but then change my mind as I think it's boring. (That full stop is killing me!!)

I am just back from the docs and will know tuesday afternoon whether or not #2 is on its way! It would be Monday if it wsn't a stupid bank holiday!!!

As for the rolling thing, Luca stared rolling onto his front a couple of months ago and would always end up sleeping on his belly despite going down on his back, it took a while but he got used to it! As for rolling from front to back he is doing that periodically but I do still have to rescue him! When he does manage it he lands with a thud and looks very surprise...it's quite amusing!!

Boobz · 27/08/2009 11:13

She's just done it again, the little blighter. Am going to leave her and see what happens.

kanga5 · 27/08/2009 16:40

hello

slick, hope the household is back to normal now your DH is back. it is always nice to have that extra pair of hands to throw kids at! you are not being bad mummy, and dcs know that good mummy is always there!

laumiere, i think i may head to the calm blue place too, it sounds really restful...

grinning, hope all settled down after the jabs now,

starshine, i agree that a late nap can totally muck up bedtime. sometimes our LO naps as late as 6.00pm, then won't go to sleep until 9ish. i find it too hard to juggle at the moment too, so just let it flow. if i get both dds to bed at 7.30/8pm am jumping (well not really, haven't the energy) for joy, then find i've got all this time on my hands...

(she's napping now at 4ish so that is good for a 7pm bedtime, yippee)

mdavza, thanks for kind comments!!! but i FEEL about 60 all day...i had that pregnancy energy then, and that is now all gone. (when i work out the secret am going to sell it and make my fortune)

55 and pregnant though.....i AM weeping, that is a tough one.

lizzie can ds sit strongly enough for a high chair? he'd be out of reach then, and can have toys on the tray/table? just keep eye on him while you do something essential?

emma glad to see you are back on MN, am amazed at possible pregnancy so soon, though we conceived ds3 when ds2 was 7 months...fingers crossed you get the news you want, stay chilled for weekend, i know it will be hard to wait.

jolly how frustrating for you re work, can you speak to someone at the top so to speak, the others are probably scared to say anything themselves.

boobz, if i were you i'd help her get back to where she is happy, on her front. she will soon be strong enough to do it herself.

poor meep, leaving them is so hard, i think you (one) feels like you (one) needs to "mother" the littlest one for longer.

i have started our lo on pear puree this week, she pulled a funny face but it went down. i notice she starts to wail when i wipe her face...WHAT, IS THAT ALL I GET!!!

well better stop rambling on and go and prepare the dinner, esp as lo is still asleep!!!

kanga5 · 27/08/2009 17:13

sorry boobz!!! i meant to say roll her on to her back where she is happy, that makes sense

jollyjoanne · 27/08/2009 20:08

Re-work I have now emailed one of the strategic directors and his PA to say I have tried emailing my boss, and HR and both can not answer my queries so I am not able to decide what I wish to do with regard to my job so can they provide assistance. I am getting v.fed up becos I am supposed to have decided before Tues! Hoping this will at least get some response, but I still really don't have a clue what I am going to do.

Mae had another session at Nursery, still not exactly going great, but she is going to have to survivre as mummy really needs to get back to her job (before they just decide top kick me out becos I am too much of a pain).

Emma I was getting quite broody a month or so back, but no new baby here, I think we are going to try when Mae is about year old. Although knowing my luck as Mae was so easy to concieve this time it'll be a nightmare and we'll still be trying when Mae starts school.

Not sure about the rolling Mae learnt back to front first and took her time with getting back but probably not helped becos I kept turning her back when she shouted me, I am such a softy and can't bear to see her cry out.

Feeling a bit smug today as me and my mum have been giving my house a good clean and tidy for the estate agent who is coming tomorrow. We will have to see if it is worth enough so that we can actually afford to move. Will keep you all posted.

meep · 27/08/2009 21:15

jolly I can't believe they are not responding to you - total rubbish and I am sure it is preying on your mind. Hope it gets sorted soon.

I got broody today ! Went to visit my firend's newborn and I had forgotten how soft and ahhhhhhhhh they are. Just the feel of the little head on my shoulder was so scrummy! Rosie doesn't do that any more - she is head up and noseying around all day!

slick dd1 had late teeth, late walking but great speech!

I will get a huge shock if Rosie gets teeth any time soon! Dd1 just drooled and hand chewed for ever until finally getting teeth (she was the last in my NCT group). My dentist said not to worry - the later the get them the shorter space of time they have to ruin them!

kanga I struggle to get Rosie to nap after her lunchtime sleep. She wakes just before her 3pm feed, then gets overtired by about 5pm but will not sleep. I normally just throw her in teh bath which she loves and it takes the edge of things until her next food - but she needs carried all the time in the last few hours of the day or she howls.

Not easy when dd1 is going through a phase of only eating if a) mummy does it ie/ have to sppon each mouthful in or b) she sits on my knee like Rosie! So I often have rosie in one arm doing one handed bottle feeding (no mean feat with short arms like mine!) and dd1 on the other knee.

I am just exhausted tonight. Have whirled about with them both - Rosie getting heavy in the sling now - and I just ache - ugh! Have had a glass of wine and a nice tea (FIL just arrived from NZ) and am going to sneak off to bed early.

Gooddnight all!

OP posts:
Slickbird · 27/08/2009 21:34

All this talk of broodiness. I am so UNBROODY I ache. Nope, not going through all that again. This more than I can handle!

I am ready to slip back into crap mummy mode and scream the house down. I have just spent 4 and a half hours doing maths homework with the eldest (as well as making everyone's tea, helping to bath, and rescue and rinse - yes HHB did ANOTHER PIB!!! and get to bed) but really, she'd have it if she only bloody listened to me!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Sigh. That's better. Sorry, but we have been doing this all week. And she's not stupid and when she wants she can fly through the work. But see if she can't be bothered or it doesn't capture her, we are all doomed then. I am so tired of repeating myself. I have decided I am crap and have no patience and from here on in, Daddy can do the maths homework with her and I'll do the rest. The thing is, I can't give her all my time when I have two under 2, so I feel bad, but it's sheer logistics.

DD2 didn't sleep all day as she was under the weather (speaking of which, what is this strange 'sunny weather' you all speak of? If I see any more rain I shall start growing weeds out my nose and ears) so that didn't help things today either.

Kanga - Re: Pears, I have been trying desperately to get some pears to ripen this week to give to HHB but they are still rock hard. Still, the kiwi fruit with a bit of baby rice thrown in has been a big hit. He had one tonight that was a bit sharp and his face would contort then it was a full body wriggle and then the mouth would open for more. V sweet.

Must speak to him about this pooing in the bath business tho...
