Hi there, meep sorry to hear about the dd's not being well, hope it goes away quickly. I agree with you about not giving the Tamiflu though, I'm a big believer in trustung your instinct...although mine is shot to hell sometimes.

My lo has also not been well last week, can't quit eput my finger on it though, started with him not being able to nap for longer than 45 mins and then crying/grunting, and he's chewing his hands furiously. Might be growing pains and teething but since he's eating well and sleeping at night I don't really want to go to the dr. His eyes are sometimes a bit dull, and it's just a feeling, and he started to feel better (to me) from yesterday, less clingy. It's so hard sometimes, isn't it? We're going swimming again this morning, he loves that.

Last night he rolled over from back to front to back again, and thought it was the funniest thing ever! We thought so too.

Ellie How are you doing? Been thinking of you, hope things are ok! And corgi are you away? How's the babe?
Sorry for boring post, just wanted to say hi!

Wheelybug · 20/07/2009 10:06

Morning !

meep - hope dd1 is better today. Poor thing

So, how long does this 4 month growth spurt thing go on for ? I don't remember dd1 having it but L is up and down all night at the moment and its been going on a while. Sob. Sob. Sob. I have a tesco delivery coming in a mo and I have snuck some baby rice into the order. Am not going to use it quite yet but not sure how much longer we'll last especially if she keeps trying to nick food off my plate.

First day of summer hols today - 7 weeks untill dd1 starts school !

grinningbee · 20/07/2009 12:55

Speedy recovery to dd1 Meep

Well. Amy had her second lot of jabs on Friday. Josef Mengler would have been proud of the nurse who did them She was downright nasty.

Told me off for having them done 13 days late. She wouldn't let me hold Amy for the jabs - said she didn't like to do it that way, and made me lay her on the bed and hold her legs down.

I must admit, I was crying before the needle got near a leg, just 'cos she was so nasty! She jabbed her hard enough to leave bruises, and poor little A was still crying in the car on the way home. Both legs bled too.

Horrible experience. I shall try and make sure I get the other nurse next time.

On a positive note - I'm going out on August 20th!! Yay!!! I'm going to see U2

This means that I will have to leave little A for the very first time, and I'm already bricking it . Any advice on how to make it easier? I don't think I'll be able to ring to keep checking on her 'cos I won't be able to hear anything!!!

Oh yes, and I will be having her next jabs done a bit late as it coincides with the concert, and I don't want her feeling poorly without me there. So if that makes me a baaaaaad mummy, I shall take it on the chin. So there, nasty nurse!!

And relax...

meep · 20/07/2009 13:47

OMG grinning - that is horrific - I would complain to the surgery manager about the nurse - there is NO reason why a little one should be held down on a bed for injections, it sounds barbaric. It is perfectly easy to do it with them in their mum's lap - I am very on your behalf.

Am also going to see U2 - whoo hoo!

No ytips on making it easier to leave them for the first time - 'tis hard, but it does get easier.

Thank you Meep

Just had a phone call from ticket office - they don't take switch, and we don't have c/cards.... aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhh!!!

Need to see if the folks we're going with can book, otherwise I shan't have to worry about leaving A.

Was I wrong to tell man off for discriminating against people without c/cards...?

I think it must time time for a hot cross bun and a cuppa.

laumiere · 20/07/2009 18:16

Very jealous U2-goers, I love them! Been on the POP and All That You Can't Leave Behind tours.

Not much going on here, Gabe looooooves his new babysitter, which is great news. I'm organising a get together in the park for some online ladies tomorrow so will be praying for the rain to hold off. If you happen to be in Greenwich park tomorrow and see a woman with an In The Night Garden tent, that'll be me....

meep · 20/07/2009 19:00

lau I missed tickets for the All That You Can't Leave Behind tour and was gutted. Saw POP and How To Dismantle The Atom Bomb. Latter wasn't that good and the god that is Bono was actually a bit of a prat, so hoping it will be good this time round!

D'you need some Upsy Daisys to furnish your tent - we have many !

Slick

The 'snip' was good. took 30mins to go in, have valilum and op then home with a week worth of general ab's. He had to 'rest' for a couple of days. But he up and doing his normal things today just uncomfortable with the buising coming out.

I phone the doctor for him (3 days after i had Robbie ), but he wanted it done.

lizziemun · 20/07/2009 20:08

Grinning

Def speak to the practice manager about that bitch nurse. There are much better ways of doing the jabs so babies don't suffer. Our Practice always has 2 nurses on when doing the jabs. So they do them at the same time.

laumiere · 20/07/2009 20:37

meep yeah he didn't come across well on that tour. I was actually at the gig the day his dad died, we all sang him 'Kite' because he just couldn't, poor bloke.

And thanks for the Upsy Daisy offer, DS1 is more of a Makka Pakka man though....

Slickbird · 20/07/2009 21:41

Grinning That's bloody awful! You should complain, there is no need for that at all! What a cow. I feel like giving her the bloody injections in the arse and see how she like it. It's hard enough for the wee ones without an unsympathetic cow doing it.

Lizzie Interesting they give valium! Wonder what DH would make of that! I hear they aren't allowed to lift anything heavy for a couple of days? That true? That rules out half of the house-members then....

Well I FINALLY got the wee ones' bedroom finished today but my God it was some seriously hard graft. All day and night Sat, all day and night yesterday and all day today, non stop. I ache all over and last night my temp started going up and my eyes were going pink and my tongue looked weirdly red! Needless to say, I lay awake til 2am panicing I had swine flu...(have had the sore throat...). Was probably just the sheer physical exertion!

Anyway, the room looks fab now and am v. pleased and the wee ones seem to like it. I may bore you with a couple of pics at some point if I can get round to freeing up space on my snap-happy digital. (I'd take a picture of a wall, me.)

On the subject of weaning, do you know, I started trying HB on a few wee tasters since last week, but he's really not fussed yet, so am just going to leave it just now. There was a definite difference when DD1 started at this stage, she was gobbling it up, but he's really not bothered. He must just be a milk junkie! So, there it is. It's on hold again, but that's fine. Just want him to sleep through, but we get the occasional night (usually on DH's shift) so maybe one day it will become a habit!

Hope you are all well and bastard swine flu-free.

Slickbird · 20/07/2009 21:44

P.S.
Feel like I gave cows a bad name in that post. I'm actually rather fond of cows, but you get my drift.

P.P.S - Except when I was up last night panicing there was a 'K' in it.

lizziemun · 20/07/2009 22:28

Slick

They get valilum before they give them the local anathestic (SP).

Yes he was told not to lift and to sit on a cushion for a couple of days. So i shut him in his office on friday and on saturday i took kids to my mums so he could rest. But by 3pm he got bored and walked round to find us. By sunday he was fine bar the bruising coming out,we just told dd's that daddy had a poorly tummy so they couldn't jump/sit on him. He fine today he could have gone back to work, although he is on holiday this week so is rearanging his crap tv/dvd etc wiring tomorrow.

grinningbee · 21/07/2009 08:06

Thanks everyone for feeling on our behalf!

It is a very tiny practice run by a husband and wife and I worry that if I complained I might have to find a new one, which would be a problem. However, I am going to insist I don't see her for the next lot!

I'm really having fun at the mo. It would seem I have something called Urticaria.

I started getting really itchy on Friday, particularly hands and feet, although wrists and legs keep coming up in huge patches of weals too. Saturday morning at 5.45 I woke up and my top lip felt tingly - withing seconds it had swelled like a balloon and I looked like I had severe trout pout! Dh thought it was funny, and could see nothing wrong with still going out in the morning - it took 6 1/2 hours to go down to a more acceptable level. NHS direct couldn't suggest anything, Boots couldn't give anything 'cos of bf'ing, so had to resort to dr yesterday. Got some Eurax cream, but he said I could take something like Piriton, but it would just sedate the baby! Having had an anaphylactic shock before I am a little worried about all this swelling up, but I hope it passes soon. I can't even wear slippers as it sets my feet off again!

Anyone else had this? Please tell me it goes away soon...

meep · 21/07/2009 08:35

ouch - sounds horrid grinning - I've not had it but big sympathy to you as someone with itchy eczema.

Rosie got ill last night . She woke up at 10pm (unheard of) screaming and was beetroot - temp of over 39degrees. It came down really quickly with Nurofen and she was happy and bouncy again. I slept in the spare room downstairs with her as it is cooler and I think she woke through the night because she was cold (no vest - just in a sheet and blanket). After no further temps I put her back in her grobag. But she'd had 2 bottles since 10pm so woke up at 6am having wee'd through her nappy!

But she's asleep again now and hasn't had any more raisee temps so fingers crossed.

I have decided that we do not have swine flu - more for my peace of mind than due to any medical intuition! But neither girl has had ALL the symptoms - and I have seen dd1 more ill than this - but with you slick on teh panicking!

OP posts:
Slickbird · 21/07/2009 09:33

Meep - hope wee ones recover soon. Do you know, i was just looking at the list of symtoms on the bbc website and i can have any one of them on any given day for lots of different reasons apart from the shortness of breath! How ridiculous is that?? What a hypochondriac saddo.

Grinning God that sounds hellish. Did the doctor say what has sparked the allergy?

Lizzie the thought of trying to get dh to rest for a couple of days sounds IMPOSSIBLE! he's always on the go! I think I'm going to have to make the initial appt for him as he just hasn't done it!

HB slept thru last night.

mdavza · 21/07/2009 09:59

Hi all, very today because lB not only had two mammoth naps yesterday, but also slept until 7:20 this morning! He must have inherited his daddy's sleep gene, because I'm an occasional insomniac and doesn't need much sleep. Of course I woke at 7 and bounded into his room ...only to find him sleeping. V cute.

Wheely How're you and the nonsleeping? I don't have much advice since I seem to be blessed with a sleepy baby. Does she wake hungry? Poor you! And her!! Trust your gut with the weaning, I'd say if she takes to it, it might just improve the sleeping, although it's not a guarantee. (This is from books, experienced mums might say differently!)

Jeez Grinning, you seem to be having a real horrid time! No experience with this type of thing - has it happened before? Good luck with that, it sucks!

How did you manage all that extreely impressive DIY with two kids, Slick? V impressed, and a bit envious. Yesterday, due to LB having long naps, I managed to clean the patio a bit with this scraper tool, and planted herbs for my new wee greenhouse. That felt like a lot! Please post pics, I love to see before and after pics.

We are gearing up for my DH's family who'll be coming from next week. his mum is staying for 3 weeks, jippeee, (I'll have some help) and his brother and wife a week later, and then maybe his other brother and dad too. Hell, what will I feed them! Tesco ready-meals, at the moment. We heard yesterday that bil and his wife are expecting their first, who will arrive a year after Ben!

I'm writing this in my jogging gear, waiting for my sil to look after lo, and then I'm going for a jog for the first time in more than 7-8 months!! There's a peep from baby, gotta run...

Slickbird · 21/07/2009 13:30

Hey Mdavza, I only managed it because dh decamped with them to my folks for the weekend and my 3rd is down in Wales for a week seeing her Nana, so I had a weekend to get it done. It was a lot to try and cram in tho. I'll try and get round to the pics. I seem to have developed the cold tho (probably from knocking my pan in). I did check my temp incase it was piggy related and alarmingly it did beep at me that it was too high but seems to have come down a bit. Checked HB and he seems ok, but DD2 won't let me get it in her ear so may have to wait til she's sleeping. Still, how are you meant to know your temps not just up from a normal cold?

Bah!

Good luck with the jogging! I prefer swimming myself - although not showing my new wobbily bits.

Wheelybug · 21/07/2009 17:20

slept through Slick & 7.20 *Mdavza- Sob sob sob. I was up at 12, 2, 4, 6..... One included a mahoosive poo too ! I am fairly sure her teeth are about to pop through although i am always reticent to 'blame' teething. Mind you, it took us 3 years to realise that dd1 (a good sleeper usually) slept really badly for a few weeks before each of her teeth came through. So I was dithering about calpol-ing her but because I didn't know, I didn't. But if its the same tonight I'll think I'll try it.

But thanks for asking about sleep Mdavza . I need to get back out running too - I think I'm going to take my running stuff when we go on hols in Aug. I am seriously planning to do the marathon in 2012 although the furthest i've run is 7.25 miles (then I found out I was pregnant and took to the sofa where I've remained ever since).

Sorry R is ill now too Meep. Its bad enough with older ones ill but the so worrying when its babies. Hope she's still ok.

Well done on the decorating slick - look forward to seeing the pics ! Hope you're feeling better soon too.

Grinning - what a nasty nurse. Do complain - you must (that reminds me, I haven't heard back following my complaint) ! When I took both dds for their injections last week the nurse told me to have dd1 (4.6) on my lap and even asked if I wanted a receptionist to come in and hold Lara whilst dd1 had it. Very scary about your allergic reaction - esp. as its difficult with bf-ing. The only other thing to do is take something and not feed for the period the drugs are effective. That's obviously not ideal as you have to give formula/ have some ebm stocked up and then pump and dump but something to consider if its bad ? Mind you, if it makes a baby sleepy maybe I'll have to take some piriton.... ooh my hayfever seems terrible today .

laumiere · 21/07/2009 19:05

I feel really bad for you guys suffering sleep dep, but take heart, it does get better! We've now got the boys sleeping in one room as Gabe can make it from 6pm to 6am without waking at 5 mo, so don't worry, sleep is coming .

We've decided against buying as any fluctuations in finances/interest rates would wipe us out. Also DH and I would rather live in rented accomodation for the rest of our lives and be able to afford extra-curricular stuff for the boys instead.

To this end we were thinking of going from our 2 bed house to a 3-4 bed flat to save some money, anyone on here done this? The only thing I can think of missing is being able to dry washing in the garden!

jollyjoanne · 21/07/2009 19:20

Grinning nothing similiar but it sounds nasty. Hopefully it is improving.

Meep hope Rosie is feeling better too. My cold seems to have lifted so generally feeling much more like myself.

Mdavza you're brave with all those family members coming to stay. I don't know if your Tescos will have the same offer but our local one has an offer on with a family sized ready meal a salad and trifle / apple pie for a fiver.

We moved Mae into her own room last night, it didn't go quite to plan she woke at midnight and then again at 3am then I just gave up and put her back in the moses basket and she woke again at 6am. But we will be trying again tonight.

corgikelly · 22/07/2009 02:11

Wheely, if it's any consolation, Rhys is still with Lara in the "I will NOT sleep anywhere even remotely near through the night" camp...we are deeply of those babies who will! laumiere, I've just told him he's got exactly one month to catch up to Gabe.

We spent the afternoon yesterday with a couple from our antenatal class; their son is two weeks younger than Rhys and they had a rough beginning with him -- open heart surgery when he was two days old . It's lovely to see him doing really well now, and a good reminder that a few months of wakeful nights aren't much to complain about in the grand scheme of things.

That said, he's one of those really happy Gina Ford babies -- ticking along on a firm schedule, eating and sleeping like a dream. I am just trying to tell myself that that works for some babies and not others (and trying NOT to think that we've just made a rod for our own backs).

Yarnie · 22/07/2009 09:35

Wheely and Corgi - I'm in your club, too! Of late, Spike has been waking at 11pm, 2am and 5am. Having said that, the night before last he went from 11pm to 6am and last night he went from 8.30pm until 3.30am and then through to 7.30am. He also woke me up with happy chatter rather than crying, which was nice.

Despite that positive development (anomaly, more like) I've been having a very challenging time with Spike for the last week. I was very relieved to read about "wonder weeks". Have you all heard of them?

Link

Spike is a text-book wonder weeker. I'm hoping we're just about to see the back of his 19 week episode.

Roll on the next "sunny" week!

Slickbird · 22/07/2009 11:27

Wheely Corgi and Yarnie - I suggest this very tentatively, but have you all tried topping them up with formula? I know at least two of you are breast feeding is that right? I had to top up the first two DDs as the boobs just weren't enough and they did start sleeping through. Like with HB at the beginning, he would sit feeding on me for 40 mins and then have a bottle after! I just don't think that with SOME babies, BFing can always be enough. It certainly doesn't seem to have done my lot any harm, but I know some people feel very strongly about not FFing.

Maybe not a good time to report my HB news then, so I'll er... leave it just now.

Sending you all sleepy vibes to your LO's!

Yarnie · 22/07/2009 11:37

Slick No pelting here! I am BFing, but I'm actually managing reasonably well on the amount of sleep I have, so I'm not going to push him. I am vaguely hoping that when we start weaning, he might start sleeping a little more. I do offer him some EBM every now and again to see whether he wants more, but he doesn't usually. I still tend towards oversupply (probably because I pump fairly regularly), so I think there's more in the (.)(.) if he wants it. It's probably just bad habits! Maybe I should start giving him a cuddle when he wakes up, rather than feeding him.
