Have finally had a chance to read ALLLLLL the posts but OMG I don't think I will be able to comment on them all so I will do my best!

Thanks firstly for all the kind thoughts after my near-death experience. I know that sounds a bit OTT now, but it was just that at the time. It has made me far more cautious at right hand turns now!!

corgi So sorry you've been having such an awful time . It really does sound hard for you. If it is any consolation, what you described in your list sounds just like HB - he's always been a regurgitating, slavering, drooling wreck and I go through soooooooooooo many bibs in a week it takes some believing. His tummy time is severly hindered because every time I lie him on his front he always brings up quite a lot of milk - even if I try to do it before a feed. Whether he has reflux, I don't really know and some days are better than others. DD1 was the same and she just grew out of it. But it is a messy business whatever it is. With regards to your LO struggling on some feeds, could it be one of two things; 1 - Teething can make them really uncomfortable to feed and can get them super pissed off if they are hungry.
2- If he has wind left over from a previous feed, they can't latch on properly and bob about getting crosser all the time. It's maybe neither of these things but maybe worth a thought?

Sorry he struggles to self-soothe tho you have my sypathies there.

Laumiere Yes, crazy but totally the sort of thing we would do too! 5 bed hard to resist! (as long as no costly dry rot or anything). If it were me, given the grumbles you've had with your DH, I would be saying to him that there is no way you take on a house move like that unless he is prepared to do more. As I really think the strain will be too much if he doesn't pitch in more and take some of it off your back. IMHO.

Yarnie Get that time to yourself and ENJOY!! I'd be going off my head if I hadn't had any time off by now!! But then, Like Meep am a 'time-off' junkie!

Jolly I too am wondering if I am coming down with some kind of cold, I went to be v. early last night as was feeling run down and exhausted - been so busy lately. Am meant to be decorating LOs' room this weekend ready for HB to move in with DD2 but I still can't decide if I will or not. Hope yours comes to nothing.

Wheely Happy Belated Birthday and congrats on being an Auntie to Be!! The vaseline thing that Laum mentioned is meant to help trap the pollen round the nose, but I have to confess it has never really worked for me. I spent the last three summers with no medication for hayfever because of being pg or bf so you have my sympathies. July is usually the worst month so hopefully it will get better soon. Miserable at the time tho.

Was it your LO who is nearly crawling??

HB just struggles to lift his heavy head so no crawling for a while here I think!

Mary Poppins Meep? New name I think! Yikes!!

Loli Geezlouise! I can't believe someone over anaysed your name! Freaks! Hope things get easier, must be v hard at the moment and yes, I too am disproportionally worried about swine flu even tho I am trying not to be and trying to remember that the media always ham up a story and making it as SHOCKING as possible. Bastards.

Well, I took HB back to the Dr yesterday, really to appease my mother who is more worried about his flat head than I am - I think it is getting better - the Dr wasn't in the least bit worried and said it should sort itself out in time - just keep on the tummy time and bumbo time. I may get a mattress that has a concave head rest for him which you put on his mattress but I haven't decided. He said that the older generation are more concerned with it as they never really saw anything like it as they all used to put their babies on their front to sleep - but as it's advised to put them on their back now to prevent SIDs there are obviously more cases. So I shall tell my over-anxious mother this and hope she will shutup calm down about it now.

Tried HB on a little banana the last couple of days, just wee tasters. He's not too sure. Wait til he grasps the reality of what I'm offering - there'll be no going back then!

Sorry for mammoth post!

Slickbird · 17/07/2009 10:06

P.S. Ellie I'm sorry you were so ill after your wisdom teeth were pulled but I still don't understand WHY they felt the need to pull them all at once, thus increasing your chances of feeling completely hellish. I think that's bloody awful. I really can't see why they couldn't space it out?

laumiere · 17/07/2009 10:29

loli don't worry sweetie, but if you start to have any soreness in your chest/coughing STAY HOME, not so much the SF as chest infections get more common with pg and you won't be able to take antibiotics.

If you do start feeling sick don't panic, I had a horrible vomiting virus with Gabe (threw up about 19 times in 10 hours) and all was fine. The babies are well-protected, you just need to keep yourself well. If you're really concerned get some of the soapless anti-bac gel for your commute.

As for Jimmy's pickiness, we had the same thing with both LOs, at the weekend try him on some homemade sweet potato and carrot as it's really sweet, then add in ordinary potato or spinach gradually and he'll get used to it. Funnily enough DS1 eventually loved Hipp more than any other baby food, esp the duo fruit and yogurt ones. Should point out that it does get better, DS1 is now the least picky child in the world, but won't eat any junk (apart from chocolate) and always wants veg with his meals.

slick He'll be doing more by Jan as I'll be back at work full time (bwa-hahahaha!) and he'll either be in charge of the kids or at work too and ooooooh this time the tasks will be being split RIGHT down the middle!

Slickbird · 17/07/2009 10:35

Good for you Laum!

Slickbird · 17/07/2009 11:27

Just went through after hearing DD2 crying to find she had taken all her clothes off and done a big jobby in her cot. Who'd be a mum?

meep · 17/07/2009 12:37

OMG slick I just spat my coffee all over my keyboard - that is my biggest fear - luckily dd1 does not seem to have any scatalogical leanings yet . I hope it was nice and neat and not used to paint interesting poo murals on the walls!

goodness, happy belated b'day wheely - I missed that!

Am totally paraniod about piggy flu loli but proabaly because I am on here most days and see all the threads popping up and it seems like everyone has it! Bit perturbed that under 4's won't be vaccinated - but hey ho, what can you do. My rational brain says it is flu - it is being scaremongered, but it is scary nonetheless.

laumiere go for the house - if it/will be your dream home and means you never have to move again I would do it.

corgi, I bet you don't know what to do/think/try/no try now - but at the same time it does seem like the mw sounded quite sensible.

I am having some "time off" again today - but not for a good reason - a bit of my tooth has just fallen out - it has been sensitive since I gave birth to Rosie so I have to go see the emergency dentist - ugh - I hate teeth things (ellie hats off to you for having your teeth done - eek!)

I have my fingers in my ears and am going "la la la la la" to all your weaning stories. I know it will have to be done and I was so excited when I started it with dd1 - but she has managed to give me the fear of going through it all again. Food battles are the one thing that make me nearly lose it with dd1. Weirdly she is on an "I will eat anything if you let me watch Waybuloo" (Cbeebies prgramme that emits some sort of cultish baby drugs from the tv causing toddlers to go into a catatonic trance and do yoga in front of the tv - I kid you not!) stage. I just pray that Rosie will take to food with less pain for me. I think I will definitely do more BLW type things with Rosie.

oh no - just been called by dd1's nursery and she has sudden high temp - aaaggghhh - now properly swine flu paranoid

mdavza · 17/07/2009 18:05

Meep Is it serious? She ok? Hope so! My DH had a cold last week and he actually stayed in bed one day, which is rare for him, so I keep telling him to get tested for swine flu, but he insists he didn't have a fever, so. I'm a bit worried but not too much. Every time my mind moves that way I quickly steer it in another direction.

Wheely Happy, happy birthday, although belatedly! I hear you on the car seat, thanks for that. I guess we will wait, just want to see him when I'm driving by myself, grrr!

Laum I would also go for the house, but trust me, it's going to be tough. We are also renovating our place, have been for the past 2 years, it puts a real strain on your relationship, believe me, especially with the baby. But it's also great to do things as we like them, y'know? We scrape funds here and there to get things done, would be much easier to have money though. DIY - don't involve yourself!!

B had his first taste of carrot yesterday. He opened his mouth wide in eager anticipation, and pulled a terrible yucky face at the taste. In fact, he almost gagged on it! We were laughing, of course, it was hillarious! Will keep on giving it to him though, sneakily, my friend who is a dietician says they have to taste something at least 13 times before accepting it.
I'm off, he's having his late afternoon catnap, hope I don't have to wake him again...

Slickbird · 17/07/2009 21:53

Oh Meep Hope it's nothing serious. everything is such a worry at the moment and it is hard keeping things in perspective. Will have everything crossed for you honey. xx

Mdavza I always say, DIwhYamidoingthis?

grinningbee · 17/07/2009 23:03

Meep I hope everything is ok.

Wheelybug · 17/07/2009 23:19

Hope everything's ok meep.

meep · 18/07/2009 10:16

everything okay in the meep house. Dd1 was prescribed Tamiflu but GP had no idea if she has swine flu or not .

So - kept her dosed on Calpol and Nurofen and slept in her room last night. Ended up with her sleeping beside me. No temp this morning though she's still miserable.

Never gave the Tamiflu - I suspect it is just a cold and I'd rather not give a 2yo drugs she may not need.

Off to administer more cuddles as that is all she wants!

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 18/07/2009 15:43

glad she's ok Meep. Can't believe the gp/tamiflu thing. Glad she didn't it. At least you have it now in case anyone does (or maybe you could ebay it )

meep · 18/07/2009 18:55

ha ha - I wonder how much I'd get for it?!

She's been a bit up and down all day - weirdest thing is that all the places she gets eczema have flared up really badly, all bright red and scabby. THink whatever she has has lowered her immunity - it looks so sore. She's also pointing in her mouth and saying "sore" so I suspect a sore throat - Calpol worked its magic and she was shrieking around. I am dreading when it wears off though...........

Fingers crossed that Rosie doesn't get it - she is so wee that I woudl hate to have her sick too.

OP posts:
jollyjoanne · 18/07/2009 19:26

Meep glad everything is OK.

I do indeed have a cold but it isn't too bad. But as there have been cases of swine flu round here I am trying to not cough or sneeze when out and about so that no-one gets paranoid and locks me up for trying to spread swine flu.

On the hayfever front I use a nasonex inhaler which is good if your hayfever is mostly sneezing not so useful if it eye watering etc. You can use it while breastfeeding.

So far Mae has had baby rice, apple and pear pudding from a Hipp jar and pureed carrot. So far she has eaten all of them but the pudding went down best. She is actually trying to grab the spoon and leans forward to take a big mouthful.

laumiere · 18/07/2009 20:27

meep DS1 has exactly the same thing with an eczema flare-up after his chest infection, low immunity would sound logical (he's 3).

lizziemun · 18/07/2009 20:27

Meep

Glad your dd is ok. It sounds like the bug we had a few weeks ago.

Odd days with high temps, cold like symptons and a very sore throat. It seem to last about 10days.

DH had his 'snip' yesterday so no more babies for me. Although it hurts .

meep · 19/07/2009 13:28

nooooooooooo! Not 10 days! Ugh!

lizzie is that "it hurts" as in man pain?

laumiere thanks for letting me know that, it makes me less worried/horrified at teh state of dd1's eczema. We did actually pohone NHS24 about it yesterday because it was so bad.

OP posts:
Slickbird · 19/07/2009 13:28

Meep Glad she seems to be doing ok. I have to say tho that I think the Dr did the right thing in prescribing it, as if she had swine flu and he/she didn't give you Tamiflu, that would be bloody awful. I do wonder tho how they are measuring the cases as if people are prescribed Tamiflu when they call with a high temp, is there any follow up to actually test them for the H1N1 virus??

I had a sore throat at the end of the week and felt totally done in, but I seemed to have rallied and spent the weekend stripping walls and hanging wallpaper in the wee ones' room. long hard days but am agains the clock! Once I've finished papering I have to paint it, then do all the Winnie the Poo stickers, borders etc, then get the furniture in... then the house looks like a bomb hit it and I have to do all this by tonight! aaaaaaaaarrrrrghhhh! (Why am I on here then?!) Cos am having a cup of tea and wanted to know how Meep's wee one was. Have been thinking about her!

Lizzie Oooh, snip! How'd it go? Am trying to get Dh to make the call, but strangely enough he seems to be finding other things to do that prevent him from getting round to it. Is that chicken noises I can hear?

meep · 19/07/2009 13:43

slick thankyou for thinking of dd1 . Hioe you've had a nice peaceful cup of tea!

I do agree about the Gp and we did phone late on Friday. I think his rational was that we woudl at least have it over the weekend if we needed it.

But there is now no testing done for swineflu so they don't know who has or hasn't got it. I felt that since flu is flu and I had actually seen dd1 a lot worse with higher temps I wouldn't give her the Tamiflu. It is quite a strong thing to give to a 2yo - also they only prescribe it in liquid form to under 1yo so we woudl have had to find a way to get the contents of the capsules into a refusing to eat toddler!

Dd1 has been loving having me sleep in her room though as she gets cuddles if she wakes up early and gets to sleep with mummy in the "big bed" (sofa cushions on the floor - my back is aching)!

OP posts:
laumiere · 19/07/2009 18:06

Seconding meep the current "stats" on who has SF are all guessed on people ringing their GP with suspicious symptoms (which let's face it, are pretty general!) and a small number of random tests.

All of us at chez laumiere have had cold symptoms + feeling a bit under the weather this week and seem to have come through unscathed apart from DS1, but we could have called the helpline.

Going by the other thread on MN I'm wondering if it's worth pretending to have SF so you've got Tamiflu for the winter wave of flu, when they're not sure they'll have enough..... (laumiere puts on cynical face)

meep · 19/07/2009 18:25

laumiere if you're still online - what did your ds1's eczema look like when he was ill? Dd1#s is all dark red blisters which have scabbed over. Have created a convo in health to see what folk think here

Just curious really - it looks awful

OP posts:
laumiere · 19/07/2009 18:33

meep yep that's it! We thought he might have picked up impetigo from nursery for a while. DS1's seems to get darker/more obvious when he's tired too. He's got a flare-up on one cheek but the rest of his 'hotspots' have stayed pretty quiet.

meep · 19/07/2009 18:54

sounds the same sort of thing. Poor wee thing keeps poiting to the scabs and looking unhappy! All of her hotspots have flared up - but she does have the odd rogue spot round her mouth and on her nose (lots of dribble and snot though).

I hate it when wee ones are ill - a bit easier with dd1 as she can tell me a bit of what's wrong - but also hard because from what she says it all makes no sense IYSWIM!

OP posts:
laumiere · 19/07/2009 19:09

We've just plastered DS1 with Oilatum we keep in the fridge, it seems to keep the worst away.
