Star - well done with the protein. I have to say, I use quorn as its easy to throw into things to add protein quickly. Sounds like Q is getting a pretty good diet and quantities seem about right to me but i could be wrong though.

CSWS - i thought it was important for under 12 months old to have plenty of dairy in their diet as well as bm/formula (for those not on diary free diet of course)?

mm - its hard to get enough easy protein in your diet as a veggie and carbs are much more filling and easy to grab out of the fridge/cupboard!! Quorn has been a god send to me and helps me not eat so much cheese, one of my weaknesses

Ekka - maybe if he's moving more, he's burned off more calories over the last 2 weeks??

ronshar · 03/06/2009 14:06

My lord. I miss a few days and what happens.
MM is smoking, Star is confessing all kinds, Bethoo is pregnant, again, you invite yourselves to my house. Well really.!!!

As there is so much to catch up on I shall be brief.
Myjob yipee to N being a sweetheart.
CSWS I thought you had the sleep almost sorted. Bugger. Gym is a very cheap activity unless they become squad.
Rachie has propping up the cot/matress helped? I hope J is better.
Aubergenie, did you get your house cleaned in time?
Heather that dress is gorgeous. I bet you look stunning.
Ekka I too am struggling with the calcium issue. I have started to give W Hovis best of both bread, as it has added calcium in it.
Knickers, where do you go??

Mjob. DD2 has squad twice a week. 1.5hrs. Luckily at the moment she is too young to compete officially so she can wear her normal leotard. Unfortunately the club had a sale on last week so I bought a new sparkly one with fantastic silver sparkly hotpants. A bit Kylie esq. DD looks yummy. Ishall try and get a picture of her on my facebook soon as I sort myself out!
We have all had the lergy here. Despite the beautiful hot weather, we have all been struck with sore throats and snot. A very attractive household.

I am free all the time. Would prefer to meet before the end of term as then I dont have to bring a very reluctant 9 year old who thinks babies are boring, and going out is boring, and meeting people is boring, and doing anything that doesnt involved Hannah Montana is boring! Other than that BRING IT ON

Marthasmama · 03/06/2009 14:28

Star - I think this breastfeeding/BLWing lark has a lot to answer for. I am convinced that because M is allowed to feed herself and breastfeeds on demand she thinks she can do whatever she wants. It is strange that they all seem to do the same thing. Thoughtful . Except M doesn't have any good sleeping nights. DH and I dread going to bed as we know that it's going to be horrific.

Loulou - According to Jane Clarke their diet needs to be mostly fruit and vegetables and starchy carbohydrates (2/3s of their diet made up from these) and the rest split between dairy, protein and treats. So.....clear as mud eh? I could never go veggie again as Quorn contains wheat.

Marthasmama · 03/06/2009 14:32

Ronshar - I only tried one mum honest. But the fact that M hasn't driven me back to the fags is a miracle! And dear lord, there is no way I'd bring ds with me so we'd have to meet up before school's out. DS is soooo annoying when we're out unless it is something he wants to do.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/06/2009 15:07

Dairy only pushed so heavily because of the calcium element loulou, so if you take care of that in other ways then you're fine without .

Have I imagined that broccoli is a good source of calcium too? Ds eats shitloads of the stuff, so all tickety boo if it is.

Apparently low fat dairy is good for those of us wanting to lose weight though. Did any of you see this programme the other day. I just watched it, and found it quite interesting, even if it didn't teach me much because I'm a know all to start with.

Lots of red patches on ds' skin (back and tummy) after his lunch today. Not sure if a food reaction or not. He did have egg, and a bit of cheese too, although he didn't used to get skin rashes from dairy. Hope he doesn't have an egg problem, but will monitor. I made frittata/spanish omelette (I generally fail to see the difference), and thought I'd recommend this to people as a good finger food. A whole meal that can be picked up in one little paw.

Star - sorry, had forgotten that Q was generally refusing milk when away from you, so yes, you are right that he should have appetite control sorted. Does he drink water ok when with your friend?

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 03/06/2009 15:08

Oh, and he had citrus (an orange) for lunch too. Just mentioning that for my own benefit, lest I forget and need to refer back to my posts as an online diary .

Marthasmama · 03/06/2009 15:24

I watched it too CSWS and when it comes to dieting/weight loss I am one tremendous know it all!

Marthasmama · 03/06/2009 15:26

Oh and yes, broccoli is a good source of calcium as are all dark green veg except spinach. Spinach is also not actually a very good source of iron.....rubbish veg.

star6 · 03/06/2009 15:56

csws - yes Q takes water, but ONLY from a regular glass/cup. I bought an amadeus 360 from jojomaman for £5 and he can't sort out the sucking bit, he doesn't really like the sip cup thing with a spout... it's a bit of a nightmare because although he's good at gulping it from a regular cup, he can't control it himself (obv we hold it) and also a lot ends up spilling. I wish he'd be tider - this is why blw doesn't work for me and I'm guessing jenwa too.

star6 · 03/06/2009 16:13

can they have citrus now? WHAT? Spinach is a bad source of iron?
I thought spinach and sweet potatoes were the two foods with the highest nutrient level?!?!

ronshar · 03/06/2009 16:44

CSWS, William keeps getting lots of red blotches all over his body. They stay for a while then go again. I havent linked it to anything yet. (ronshar worries if two bars of chocolate for lunch have anthing to do with it)
I put all of my weight loss down to being dairy free.
Star I hear you about the mess and BLW. W is now in his 4th change of clothes today. Pesky independant babies.

jenwa · 03/06/2009 16:55

haha star yes there was that reason also being so organised and planning stuff I liked to make sure I just blend it or get jars and eat on the go with outthe mes and I know how much she has had. When giving her finger foods I think she has done really well then get her out the high chair and leave a trail of food behind as it falls of her Also is Q having another growth spurt? You said you gave him sweet potato for dinner, do you mix anything else in it? Phoebe had it yesterday with sausage, peas and sweetcorn. Just wondered if he is having enough stuff to fill him to last longer? not at all critising just a thought

I thought spinach was good too for iron intake! very dark chocolate is though
my left eye is itchy and watering, not a great look

Hi everyone. Been away too long.. I see Amelia and I have been dropped off the list

Hope you are all doing well. There's no way I'm ever going to catch up on 6 months of news. Don't have regular internet access anymore so can't really keep up with you all. Been away far too long.. had a really bad bout of PND this time round. Cut myself off from just about everyone. Over the worst now but have serious PC issues and no hope of an upgrade.

Can't believe so much time has passed already. I would like to say that Amelia is growing fast but I'd be fibbing. She's still a tiddler. Only just going into 3 to 6 month clothes now and weighing 12lbs. She eats three good meals a day but just won't grow. She looks really odd when she stands up. (she's pulling herself up the furniture already arggghhh..) I think all the food just fuels her hair growth.. She's just had her mad mop cut for the second time. I'll try to post a pic later if I can get time on DHs pc.

ajm200 · 03/06/2009 18:32

bethoo Congratulations.. Enjoy your sleep now that you've regained it for a while. Guess your announcement was on a previous thread that I'm not going to get to.

Marthasmama · 03/06/2009 18:34

Just quickly before bedtime begins....

Star - I thought spinach was great but I was reading about increasing iron levels and apparently there is something in spinach (the same thing that's in tea, oxalate) which makes the iron in it very difficult to absorb. But if you eat it with broccoli, brussels sprouts, tomato, potato, green & red peppers it increases the amount you absorb.

Hello ajm200.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/06/2009 18:36

ajm! Hellooo! I still have your stats and would love to put them back on if you're hanging around (even if only occasionally).
Sounds like Amelia is like Naomi for growth - you need to talk to myjob to not feel alone with that one. We have a facebook group that you should join too and share pics on.
Very sorry to hear about such bad PND.

MM - what is the source of your spinach info please, as it seems that the rest of us all believe it to be fab?

star - they can have almost anything now, so yes to citrus.

Happy birthday to myjobisdad!

star - I struggled with finding the right cup for both of mine, but have found one by tommee tippee this time that is really easy, so ds can manage it. Will see if I can find a link to the one shortly.

I'll try and pop in to see how you are all doing once a week if I can.. how's that for a plan. Should be able to get PC time when DH goes on his boys night out each week...

Not on facebook anymore.. deleted my profile a year ago and definately not got time to set it up again. Lucky to get 20 mins a week online..

star6 · 03/06/2009 18:43

jenwa - yes we mix cous cous or quinoa or brown rice or lentils with the sweet potato when he has it. Last night was cous cous. Is that enough or should I be giving something else too? You're right. Maybe it's just not filling enough! Would love to see your cup csws.
Hi AJM!! Nice to "see" you

I am so sick of the sleeping issues. I can't even get M down for her first sleep now. It's making me so miserable. I just don't know what to do any more. It's taking over my life. I just can't hack it anymore....
