I'm so hacked off with it all - ds1 is still awake crying and refusing to sleep...he is itchy but he is also taking advantage of the situation and is calling out for all sorts of stupid things. I have been dealing with him all this time and dh has now waltzed in and thinks i have handled it all wrong - cheers then....i'm leaving him to it and refusing to help out now so they can all get knotted!!!! Joe is fast asleep so far but i am feeling really worried that his is going to be even worse than ds1 and i have to start back at work next week with potentially two non-sleeping, itching children and a dh who won't be able to cope with them aaaaaggghhhh!!

Sorry but feeling lousy, useless, knackered and peed off with everything

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/06/2009 20:46

Wine loulou?

OP posts:
loulou33 · 11/06/2009 20:48

I'va had half a glass but now think its best not to drink anymore as i may have ot be up all sodding night....i know you do this every night pratically - hats off to you

Marthasmama · 11/06/2009 21:01

Loulou - Have too much wine and then when the dc are playing up just lie there snoring so DH has to deal with it. That is what I would do if my DH criticised the way I had handled things.

loulou33 · 11/06/2009 21:08

Good idea MM

I think ds1 is finally asleep after i went in to find him sat on the floor, sleeping bag off. Literally threw him intho his bag and back into bed without a word and all is now quiet - think he realied he had taken the 'i am ill' thing a bit too far....do you think he'll be a contender for man flu victim of the year when he is older?

This has cheered me up no end. I put one on this morning about breaking and dislocating my toe on a shopping trolley (don't ask) but some of them are hilarious!!!

loulou that thread is funny and scary! But yes a good ditraction when your DH being a knob I am sooo sorry too to have worried you re your Joe getting it worse, he may not so please dont worry. I had CP twice (which yes is very unusual) and my sister never got it at all. I think (hopfully) Joe wont be demanding you like your DS1 and hopefully your DS 1 got the message tonight. I see your DH never managed to sort it in the end though men!

DD1 poorly today, complaning of a sore neck which I out down to her sleeping with too many teddies last night. But when I checked ehr temp it was 38.2 then 10 mins later 38.8 so gave her medicine. I had already given her medicine to ease the neck ache but to be honest she never felt that hot today and I think the med was wearing off when I took her temp later. She is in bed now and we have just woken her to give her more med as my sis in law has had both her boys in A&E with febrile convulsions and said it was bes to keep on top of medication to avoid them burning up. Hopefully she will be ok she was very clingy and tired today and lay under a blanket most of the day. I am meant to be going to playgroup with her tomorrow too to help and my mum was having Phoebe so not sure what happening now.

RachieW · 11/06/2009 21:52

I am so far behind, it's hard to be on mn at my Mum's as I keep chatting to her

Jenwa- At the moment I'm about 4 miles from Cosford. We always used to watch the airshow when we were little but from a nearby hill cos my parents were too tight poor to pay for us to go Will be back in London by Sunday though.

Ronshar- No I haven't gone back to work now, I'm going in Sept. I am doing some contact days next week when no doubt all will be revealed about EYFS...

Loulou- sorry about the cp. It must be horrid for them but I supposed in one way it will be one nasty illness out of the way.

MM- I'm coming back late to this but I agree with the others, push for counseling, it sounds like you need someone to talk too. And you do deserve a treat. What about something low key like maybe go to the cinema with dh? Of course don't know if you are a film type? But do you know what I mean, not something major that you have to kind of worry about but also something that enables you to switch off for a while.

Aubergenie- Sorry to hear that S is still suffering. J seems to have perked up today and actually tried lots of solids again. Yesterday he wouldn't have any food near his mouth. My Mum got him some Bickiepegs yesterday, they are so old fashioned but he loved them and has been chewing on one for the past two days. They remind me of dog biscuits but whatever works!

jenwa · 11/06/2009 21:59

oh myjob poor you with ds, its awful isn't it as they dont understand tiredness. Poor thing but I know how you feel. I dont really know what to suggest other then maybe giving him so free time, If Lydia is like it I put the telly on and let her chill for abit, usually around 3 -4 ish just to calm down as its such a along day and as adults if we had had a disturbed night then we would get some sleep but they are stubborn and its the last place they want to be! I finf putting the telly on and giving her a snack (whoops I just put smack first clearly not a smack to chill her out)makes her calm down and chill out with out anyone talking or annoying her. At their age they cant communicate their frustrations and dont understand how they are feeling. I know it is easy to say it but it is bloody hard still dealing with it and knowing what to do about it Maybe just try the chill out time with him? Can you also try the method of attempting to wake him prior to the terror if they usually happen around the same time? It helps bring them out of that first sleep stage them. Prob with Lydia was we had difficulty waking her

jenwa · 11/06/2009 22:02

rachie did wonder where you were as I am in worcester so was not sure where you parents where when you said you were in the midlands this week. I am looking forward to it but now may turn up at your parents and watch in their garden

I am off now to read a magazine as tired and want to chill out for a bit and catch up on the Katie and Peter goss and whos pregnant and all that cheesy crap nonsense that will make me realise my life is better than that

Jenwa - do watch out with sore neck and high temp - they can be signs of meningitis together.

OP posts:
aubergenie · 11/06/2009 22:09

Sorry to hear about poorly LOs Jenwa and Loulou.

Loulou - I was told that sometimes babies don't get CP anywhere near as badly, as they still have some immunity left over or something. Hopefully this means that Joe won't get it too badly. Fingers crossed anyway. Sounds knackering.

CSWS - Brilliant news about the job. Apparently we're in for some good weather this summer, so with a bit of judicious planning it could work out well.

S still has his rash and another friend's baby has a similar one, but no idea what it is. He's a bit quieter than usual but doesn't seem too bad. We went to baby group today and he made a baby cry by pulling on his lovely long hair for the second week running. I was mortified when it happened last week, and made a mental note to keep a really close eye on him this week, but I turned around to get my drink and he did it again to the same baby who was wailing and screaming and really upset. I've really got to try and nip that one in the bud as I don't want him to get a reputation.

RachieW · 11/06/2009 22:11

Actually Jenwa my parents are coming to London with me so you could all stay here for the weekend

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/06/2009 22:26

Ah aubergenie - ds pulled the same 10 month old child over twice at toddler group this morning. She's a little dot of a thing who just sits there happily, but could be knocked over by a feather, and ds pulled at her twice about half an hour apart. No decent mats at this group either, so she did bump her head and cried both times.

yes csws that was my panic, when she mentioned the sore neck I thought it was sleeping funny but then she was getting restless and high temp and I looked at the meningitis signs which also said cold hands and feet and her feet where cold I had a slight paninc but saw no rash and her temp started to come down but I was panicky last night and we did check on her afew time, managed to get calpol in her whilst she slept and take her temp twice in the night! She woke at 6am with a temp of 38.6 so have given calpol and kept her off playgroup. My mum is coming over later so may see if I take dd to doctor but I think it may just be viral, just so scary how quickly meninigits can happen but I am now 99.9 % sure it is not as she would have got worse through the night right?

myjob oh poor DS, its so difficult, all I can say is they do eventually grow out of them, DD1 had them for about 2-3 weeks solid then they kind of just happen every so often now. Usually after a very busy day! But I am now thinking the bad behaviour was linked to that, never realised it before but what you mentioned yesterday about your DS and his change in behaviour now rings true with DD1. Its good to know that it will end though not useful for now though

rachie Can I just come on my own and leave my family behind???

aubergenie and csws well I wont be going to your baby groups Its all about curiostity now and what they can grab and reach for, hair and pretty girls

aubergenie · 12/06/2009 08:51

I hope your dd gets better soon Jenwa and that your ds had a better night Myjob.

CSWS - I'm glad it's not just S then. It was just unfortunate that he picked the same child both times. He's a bit of a delicate chap with loads of hair, which must have looked really inviting. Both times, the hair pulling seems to have triggered him getting really upset (understandably of course) but then over the course of the session not really being able to calm himself down and his mum having to take him home early.

I wonder if I can buy a baby straightjacket for next time?

KSal · 12/06/2009 09:40

Jenwa that sounds quite scary, hope your DD is feeling a bit better today

loulou i would definitely say it was better to have cp young... i had it when i was 14 and it was grim. not as bad as my brother though, he got it at the same time and was 18 :-(

I remember sitting in the living room in my bra (and jeans!) with my mum dotting the calamine lotion on my back for me.

I think part of me wants emma to catch it from nursery and get it out of the way for her!!

KSal · 12/06/2009 09:51

topical linky for y'all

loulou33 · 12/06/2009 09:57

can't stop long but suffice to say ds1 slept for about 30mins last night when i was last on and thenws up crying etc until 5.30am finally fell asleep on me -poor lamb. He hates the calamine lotion (too cold he reckons) but nothing seems ot be working. He's fine when in the bath but once out, he cries and cries and cries. We are all exhausted except Joe who slept 13 hours straight dont' know what else to do but i wonder if the piriton actually kept him awake last night?? Got to get more cream today as he is completely covered with spots so will ask pharmacist...too tired to type more but hope others are well

Sorry things are tough with the night terrors Mujob - will catch up with you later

Jenwa - hope your LO is better today - sounds scary too

KSal · 12/06/2009 10:03

oh dear sorry loulou sounds horrible... feel very silly now. I hope you and he get some rest today xx

Marthasmama · 12/06/2009 11:26

Loulou - Could have done. I think I have said before that when DS was 3 Piriton made him hyperactive. We gave it to him at bed time and he was bouncing off the walls for four hours.

loulou33 · 12/06/2009 12:47

Yes MM i agree but the pharmacist said it was the only over the counter anti-histamine that was non-drowsy am waiting from call from gp as he is sooooo sore - now has them in his mouth as well...not sure how we will survive if he doesn't sleep tonight. He's in bed now as he was falling asleep eating lunch (*although he couldn't put much in) but i suspect he will be up soon again

Ksal - no worries but its another thing to add to my list of crap things i have done as a parent and still doing. Where can you get rear facing car seats for children over 9kg??? One that will also fit in UK car seats....not sure how ds1 would feel about facing backwards til he was 4?

Also read a website this morning that said CP is caused by parent giving their children poor diets - thanks for that

Just off to get a large stick to beat myself with

jenwa · 12/06/2009 13:37

ah loulou you are not a bad parent, you would not be bothered about your children if you were. ALso cant see a link to bad diet and chicken pox, someone just trying to give it a cause.

DD1 has tonsillits, her temp just went to 39.9 so she has had calpol neurofen and anti biotics! Hopefully something will do the trick!

I know this is a whinge but my mum was having dd2 today so I could go to playgroup with dd1 anyway we never went due to her being poorly and mum came here instead but had coffee and did sit here (dd2 in bed) whilst I went to drs, was only gone 40 mins if that then she went home when I got back, feel a bit and that she did not still have dd2 and maybe I should have asked her but thought maybe she would have just have done so so that I could be with dd1. I know its trivial but I just thought she could have taken dd2 off my hands for a little while like planned but she said she was not stopping for long as wanted to do some housework. Think it bugs me as she would have had dd2 from 8:30 til 13;00 is dd1 had been at playgroup so she would have done housework around that time. Sorry just a rant
