loulou yes I did want a swap but now am thinking of just giving her to star happily have her back when she is 11 as you will have trained her well star

HM Lovely pressies I have only used wipes or soap and water to wash of paint, ink etc. White spirit would do it but best opt out of that option!!!

myjob ahh, bless with tiny N and you not worrying re car seat. at least you have a grwon boy to know N will be like that too one day Sorry about the terros, poor thing and yes agree it really can wear them out

I have been shopping and feel good but a little guilty as no money to shop really! Never mind!

loulou33 · 10/06/2009 15:01

Yeah Jenwa i would let her run wild for 11 years and then hand her back drinking alcopops and with loads of tattoos, whereas Star would raise her proper and return her in a fit state.....

hedgepig · 10/06/2009 15:19

HMM thanks for the Fathers day reminder is it this weekend ((worried emoction))? No help on the ink I'm afraid, maybe a bath before DH gets home.

WHoops sorry loulou I meant to say that star would have trained her well in her teaching knowledge not that you would have raised her badly also meant to say she could have your DS too, I was typing quickly so I can have a quick read of my mag before I went to collect dd1 from playgroup

Father day next weekend, 21st I think.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/06/2009 16:39

Yes pistachio - still enough room for him. His seat is ok up to 13 or 15kg iirc, so will last a little longer.
I totally disagree with ronshar re seats only being weight related though. They must be able to sit up for 20mins unsupported before moving out of their first seat.

Hedgepig - not this weekend, but next.
lol that your idea of a bad night is roughly the same as my idea of a good one!

Hello, will catch up properly in a min but can I just ask a question? Ds has a rash, mostly on his tummy and back and the top of this arms and the top of his legs. He seems fine to me although dp is convinced he's got a temperature. I called the docs and they can't get me an appointment till Monday, so the doc is going to call me this evening. I don't think it's anything serious but Dp is getting worried and now I'm wondering whether I'm a slack mum. He's been refusing food, but I'm not sure whether it's related to teething. I think the rash fades when I hold a glass on it, but it's not very dark, so difficult to tell. So tell me wise ones, would you worry?

He ate some fish for the first time the day before yesterday but apart from that, no new foods I don't think.

Thanks Pistachio - I'm a bit like you, I think, but dp's making me feel like I'm being a bit gung ho.

aubergenie · 10/06/2009 17:52

Doc called and said to go down to get him checked out.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/06/2009 18:31

Good luck aubergenie. Hope it's nothing much, but do let us know.

Ahem, can I see if this link works? It is regarding car seats. Not that I want to cause a riot.
www.childcarseats.org.uk/carrying_safely/carrying_safely.htm

ronshar · 10/06/2009 19:56

Aubergenie. I hope DS is ok. Are you off to A&E?
Star if you are offering, I too have a preschooler who needs reform school a good home. We had a good throwing on the floor tantrum this evening! What fun.

I have read further and it states weight and if the childs head is above the top of the seat. Legs are ok crossed.

loulou33 · 10/06/2009 20:01

Link doesn't work Ronshar but i have had a look at the page, I think. Joe outgrew his rear facing as it is for up to only 9kg . His legs were half way up the back of the seat and i'm sure that was dangerous.....

CSWS - you mentioned the sitting for 20 mins thing before and i looked for it but couldn't find it anywhere - where did you see that? I'm not sure Joe could sit for 20 mins now as he never sits still and constantly tqists, reaches and falls over....

Jenwa - Don't , i was kidding you and took your comment light-heartedly,...although i have booked your dd for ear-piercing next week and i thought i would get Joe's done whilst i was there - best to get it done when they're young so they don't feel it heh ? How about i dress her in a nice strapless minidress with a playboy bunny on the front and some toddler stillettos?? I could be a great surrogate - oooh maybe i should apply to be a foster carer???

loulou33 · 10/06/2009 20:03

whoops that should be twists not tqists

loulou33 · 10/06/2009 20:06

Found this in the FAQ section of that website to answer my own question!!!

My baby is not yet 9kg in weight, but his feet are dangling over the end of his child seat. Should I move him into a group 1 forward facing seat?

A: No. Child restraints are tested and approved for the child's weight not age. Provided that the top of your child's head does not extend above the back of the seat, s/he should remain in the rearward-seat until s/he is over 9kg and can confidently and comfortably sit up for a reasonable length of time (30 minutes or more is a good guide).

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/06/2009 20:16

Oh bravo for finding what I was saying written down loulou. I've never seen it in writing (but never looked), but we had a road safety expert come to talk to my post-natal group when I had dd, and she told us.

CSWS sorry that my bad night is your good night it's just he had slept for 6 hrs (for the 2nd time ever) the night before and so I was getting all hopeful, although I should know better as this is my 2nd child .
LouLou I think the sitting up recommendation relates to how well the babies neck and back muscles are developed so if they were in a crash facing forwards, they would be strong enough to cope wih the whip lash.

Aubergenie I hope DS is Ok.

can you help me I'm struggling with finger food ideas, i get as far as carrots, pear, apple and rice cakes and then get a bit stumped, any other suggestions would be welcome..please!

aubergenie · 10/06/2009 20:33

Back from doctors'. She thinks it's a viral rash and has prescribed some paracetamol (despite me saying we'd got some), and some itch cream ("just in case") and some Bonjela. He is completely overtired now and we can't get him to sleep.

Night terrors sound awful Myjob. I wish I could suggest something that would help.

Loulou - I had to laugh about the choking incident. Exactly the same thing happened to me when we were visiting a friend who's really sceptical about BLW. Typical!

Oh, and the teachers out there will appreciate this one. My school was Ofsteded last week. I thought there was very little chance of it being done before I go back next month. Result!!

Awww hedgepig, hope you have a better night tonight.

Everything is a finger food chez csws (though I did offer his couscous on a spoon tonight!), but ideas that mm hasn't already mentioned are beetroot fingers, roast or boiled/steamed parsnip fingers, stringless beans (these are very popular with everyone here at the moment), fresh apricot wedges, nectarine wedges, puffed wheat (if they have the pincer grip mastered), raisin wheats, pancakes, chips, sweetcorn patties (I use the recipe on Aitch's blog), baby courgettes, baby corn, baby gnocchi (waitrose sell a nice one in 3 colours)... I'll stop there!

Glad doc was helpful aubergenie. Hope he settles off soon and makes a quick recovery.
D was a bit overtired at bedtime too (been up since 1:25 until bed at 7 with just a 2 min nap in car at school pick up), and has consequently been a bit unsettled since, but hopefully once he gets into his sleep he'll sleep quite soundly.

Just had some good news here. Dh has been offered some work with his old client, starting late July. No idea how long for, but we'll glad even of just a few weeks! It does mean that he'll be away all week all over the summer holidays though, which is obv the downside. Will have to get v organised with activites and playdates!

Sorry, that should be myjob, not mm suggesting finger foods.
