I thought I'd use this title as not all of our delicious babies are on the move yet, including mine

I'm away for the weekend and you all get chatty!!

Carrie - you didn't disappoint, but thanks for making me feel really old

M also starting to crawl and we're really not baby proofed here at all.

Camping was great except for the night!! Threw up the first one, dd1 a pita in the second one plus DH snored like a freight train. Lovely weather tho' and lots of fun activities.

DG sorry to hear about the break-in, can you get yourself the buggy of your dreams now (or did you already have it?)

M wakes up 8ish, BIT still up a couple of times in the night, would you swap?

Hopefully · 26/05/2009 21:54

Ninja I'd swap if I could have my happy baby back! I don't know if it's coincidence, but since T started sleeping through, he's been a PITA during the day - tired but won't nap, or napping for ages then groggy, like his body clock hasn't worked out what to do yet. He's also been teething and had a cold, so that can't have helped. I'd happily go back to one or two night wakings if it meant having an easy time of it during the day again.

at all this crawling! T is so plonkable you wouldn't believe. He only bothers to even roll if there's something fascinating like the TV remote that he wants.

imoscarsmum · 26/05/2009 22:22

I have even tried forbidden toys, like the TV remote, but nothing shifts our charlotte!!

ninja · 26/05/2009 22:36

remotes can be accessed at any cost as can electrical wires, keys and plastic bags

barnpot · 27/05/2009 08:37

still no rolling going on here, no sitting either, he would be if he could get his balance sorted out but still tending to throw himself backwards. swimming today yay!
els just trying to have a poo, its so funny watching him squeeze it out but hes so sensitive he knows if I'm watching him, and he'll stop.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/05/2009 09:13

M was able to sit up really well, but would randomly throw himself backwards, but that seems to have stopped over the past week or so.

He is a whizz at rolling, he does about 6 rolls really quickly. He's worked out how to flick his shoulders and body weight over to maximum affect.

Off to a coffee morning soon, then off to meet friends for lunch - hurrah!

Im back from a great holiday

dg sorry to hear about your break in, i was burgled the night fraser came home from the scbu, also whilst we were in the house the dcs and i were in the lounge, the arsehole that did it just walked through my back door into my kitchen stole a load of cash and my purse and walked out again, thankgod the dcs did'nt walk into the kitchen, i dread to think what could of happened.

Fraser is now walking around the furniture, he is into everything, i found him half way up the stairs a while ago so have had to put the stair gate back up.

Im off out tonight for a meal with my dad and step mum who are visiting from spain, looking forward to that as not seen him for a year.

digitalgirl · 27/05/2009 12:32

lollyheart thats awful (your break-in not Fraser's progress!). In some ways it's terrifying to think that they can just brazenly walk in while you're in the house, but then at least they don't have the run of the house to take even more of our things.

DS doesn't really roll either, unless we put him on his back on the bed. Am wondering if a weekend away without the walker will result in an improvement his crawling skills.

Have just discovered that if I give DS a toy to play with when he wakes up in our bed that buys me an extra 10-15 minutes of dozing. Every minute counts at 6am.

Hopefully · 27/05/2009 14:13

Discovery of the day - free range chicken has twice as much protein per 100g as battery chicken. Interesting debate on it on AIBU board...

Doctor happy with DS - thinks it's just a nasty cold and told me to keep BFing like there was no tomorrow to help him get over it - was nice to have a pro BF doctor!

CarrieBo · 27/05/2009 14:36

I was going to say 'shiney new thread' but you're on page 2 already!

DG that break-in totally sucks, I really hope you get life back to some sort of normality soon.

I also am guilty of browsing property websites. I want to move before getting pg again. Dh can't decide if he's up for it or not! We are the world's crappest at DIY though, so have agreed that if somewhere isn't recently decorated then we'd pay a decorator! (oh the shame of admitting that to my dad!) I'm only looking to graduate from our terraced house to a three bed semi...but will we ever sell? Not if we don't put it on the market is the short answer to that...

imoscarsmum my ds goes back to bed after breakfast too, but I wake him every day after half an hour's sleep so we can go out for the morning, then he has his big 2 hour sleep after lunch, at the same time as my toddler. It divides the day nicely into morning and afternoon activites, with MN time time to cook dinner and do the washing up in between!

Kagey · 27/05/2009 15:26

Can I join you all on the property website browsing?? The house of our dreams that we had an offer accepted on got a terrible survey report so DH has pulled the plug on it. There was lots of tears and tantrums from me last night, but even I could see (in the end) that replacing the whole roof and tackling subsidence would have been too costly even for a beautiful house and the vendors would not drop either. So I am back on the rightmove website and have a viewing arranged for this evening which is but as it clashes with running club but needs must and all! Anyway sorry for the rant but it makes me feel better.

becaroo · 27/05/2009 18:41

newlark...it was me asking re: slings. Have had a look...the connecta looks good but my ds2 is a chuncky monkey - 10.6 kgs at 34 weeks...ok do you think? also, would want to waer him on my bck or on the front facing forward....can it do that?

Sorry but am a sling/carrier novice!

Got a hideous viral thing AGAIN. Went to Gp this morning and am going to have some blood tests and a camera dowm my throat (the thought of whcih makes me want to cry!!! I am such a wuss!)

Will be glad when this week is over, frankly.

xx

newlark · 27/05/2009 20:51

I think Connectas are supposed to be good up to toddlerhood - I have carried my 2.5 yr old in the patapum (she is average at just under 13kg - they put on weight more slowly after the first year) and I think that goes up to 18kg? They don't do a front forward facing position but that isn't a generally recommended position see link here (about wraps but the same principle applies). Both are great on the back - ds likes to be quite high so he can see over my shoulder

Debs75 · 27/05/2009 21:45

Becaroo try the wilkinet you can use that as a back carrier (just had to look up the name as my brain is sooooo tired) I got mine for £10 off ebay. There is a video on you tube on how to tie it.

I got my poorly cat back today. They have removed her hip socket because it was shattered and she has a lot of tissue damage, she can't walk on it yet so has to spend a few days in her cat carrier. She looks really pathetic and very sad, poor baby.

Robyn can now sit for ages on her own if we sit her on the settee. I think because it is soft so she sinks into it a bit, she is still a bit rubbish at sitting on the floor and has resisted rolling over. If she is on her tummy she lifts her bum up and rocks a bit then flops on the floor.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 28/05/2009 10:24

Good news that your cat is home Debs75, she will be a lot happier now she's back with her family.

hopefully - I just had a quick look on that free range chicken thread. Woah it got a bit vicious didn't it?!

M is off to his Granny's for a few hours this afternoon. Shall I do some housework or do the grocery shopping?!

OP posts:
Hopefully · 28/05/2009 12:03

ILTMIMI it certainly wasn't for the faint of heart! Oh well, I figure if it means one person buys one less battery chicken and reduces demand just that tiny bit, it's worth it. If enough people buy just one more free range chicken instead of battery, suppliers will eventually start producing them instead and competition and supply/demand will hopefully mean that free range chicken isn't twice the price of battery.

I've been out on a foraging expedition this morning! Went and collected some elderflowers for cordial and some comfrey leaves for making salve (apparently it's good for healing cuts and scrapes - something I'll probably be grateful if T is anywhere near as clumsy as I am). I'm going to try to do a bit of foraging this year - nothing too intrepid, perhaps some more elderflower, rosehips, blackberries, some salad leaves, things like that. I'm not hardcore enough to get up at dawn to find mushrooms or go shoot myself some pheasant!

Ponymum · 28/05/2009 12:44

Kagey sorry about the disappointment with the house. I can totally sympathise. We went through 2 years of hell when we sold our last house, and saw every possible nasty thing can can happen when you are trying to buy or sell. It really can be heart breaking. I have to remember this and tell myself that we are perfectly happy now in a rented house and should just stay put!

hopefully we are also totally committed to free range, but it is so emotive isn't it? I think, if you think you can't afford it, buy half as much and put less on your plate. (But I don't dare even look at that thread or I'll get myself in trouble.) If you want to go foraging feel free to come and visit here - our lane is thick with elder flower, and there is no need to poach pheasant by shooting them - just drive down the lane and you will "accidentally" hit one or two for the pot!

DebiTheScot · 28/05/2009 13:53

I saw that thread too, well done hopefully for diving in there, I was a bit scared just reading it! We eat free range chicken and eggs and just eat less of it- not rocket science really. Also eat more fish and mince to compensate for less chicken.
If you have a Sainsburys near you they do boneless and skinless free range chicken thighs that are about the same price as non-freerange breasts. So you get the convenience of breast meat for the same price and I think its tastier.

I saw what I thought were elderflower trees this morning and was reminded of my mum's tasty homemade cordiel but I wasn't brave enough to pick them as I wasn't 100% sure thats what they were.

And on a totally different note- we're on day 2 of potty training ds1 and have had no accidents yet at all

newlark · 28/05/2009 14:45

debi that's impressive on the potty training front - we tried with dd a few weeks ago and got through about 20 pairs of pants the first day . We kept trying for a week but she was getting quite upset when she wet herself so we are back in nappies with occasional wees on the potty - will have another attempt in a few weeks. So much for GF "potty training in a week" - dd was showing all the readiness signs listed but wasn't actually ready

Hopefully · 28/05/2009 15:06

T has, of course, not given me 5 minutes to get on with my cordial! I'm guessing that if the flowers wilt a little it won't hurt.

Ponymum of your lane of elderflower! I had to go hunting down a footpath for ages to get enough - didn't want to take too many from one plant as the bumbly bees love them, and the berries are useful in the autumn too. Shame yorks isn't a little more convenient from the south coast...

CarrieBo · 28/05/2009 15:22

newlark I'm three months in to GF's 'potty training in a week' and we still have regular accidents! To be fair to dd, she's perfectly ready, just doesn't have the social awareness that having wet pants isn't the done thing, and tries to hold in her wees while playing rather than bother going to the loo, so inevitably little bits leak out! There's a new winnie the pooh toy she can have next time she has a dry day, its been sitting here for three days now...

becaroo · 28/05/2009 15:27

Thanks ladies - have ordered the connecta...its the solarweave one as we are coming up to summer in a neutral shade so dh will wear it too!!!

Still feel really ill...now got pus on tonsils so will be going back to GP tomorrow

Ds1 had cramps and diahorrea (sp?) last night too so all in all am a bit fed up....moan...moan...moan....

becaroo · 28/05/2009 15:29

DG just seen your post re; viral rash....my ds1 used to get these ALL the time...it was really scary. It would appear, look really angry, then disappear, then reappear somewhere else in a matter of minutes.

Better to be safe than sorry...you did the right thing.

ninja · 28/05/2009 17:03

becaroo I have the connecta - it's very convenient as it fits in the nappy bag, hope you like it.

hope the tonsils get better, i get it a lot

v. impressed with the corsdial hopefully, my dad used to make elderflower wine

imoscarsmum · 28/05/2009 20:57

Had a lovely day on the beach today with my sister and her 2, and my bro and sis in law and their 2. My lucky sister lives 5 min walk from the beach!
Was fab as all the other kids were racing around like lunatics and C just sat with me on the mat, eating lunch and playing with toys/handfuls of sand. Sea air has knocked her out!
Am looking forward to racing round with her, just enjoying this time that she happily sits and plays - no rolling, no crawling, just lovely.

And amazed at those using slings for toddlers . My 2 yr old niece would never go in a sling, she'd much rather walk. Having said that, my sister couldn't carry her - she's the size of a 3 or 4 yr old (her dad is 6ft4!)
