Here's a nice new thread for us to share our experiences with our new LOs.

Belgian, I'm having a Martini with vodka and two big olives. a bit strong but I needed it . oh, open the champagne! it's always a special day.

remember when we used to chat about cocktails? I haven't yet had a mojito after this birth and can't wait to have one especially since so many talked about it.

Blottedcopybook · 05/06/2009 20:56

I love those tshirts!!

Momino Greer's quite a sleepy baby too (thank goodness!)

I'm off to bed now, bloody knackered. Got DS1's birthday party tomorrow and no idea how many kids are actually coming. He's invited 50, I've had RSVPs from 6...

Belgianchocolates · 05/06/2009 21:32

Momino Yes, I was thinking about cocktails earlier today. Mmmm, a mojito, yum. Maybe I should learn how to make my own cocktails and use up those spirits in our cupboard . It's our wedding anniversary on Sunday, maybe we'll open a bottle of champagne then.

FiKelly · 05/06/2009 21:40

everyone who's had a hard day.. don't be too hard on yourselves i'm sure it'll all be forgotten overnight and tomorrow is another day. none of us can be perfect all of the time and all we can do is aim to get most things right most of the time..

my mw came at 4.45pm after waiting in all day.. worth the wait though as it was lovely to show grace to her as she'd only ever felt her in my tummy she weighed g and at 2wks old today she's only 10g off her birth weight so we've been discharged by cmw. i'm still managing bf (never got this far with ds), cracked nip healed (tho didn't get round to ordering silverettes), toe curler almost gone (Phew) and cs healing v well.. just need hives to go!

so even though i was stuck in all day it ended on a high.

off to bed for now.. g will be up later for her marathon feed session.

pulapula · 05/06/2009 21:42

Bit of a funny question, but if your LO falls asleep on you but you want to put them down, how long do you wait to do it? I just seem to get the timing wrong. Sometimes i think i'll do it quite soon because if he's going to wake, then i'd be more annoyed holding him a long time and him waking. Sometimes i hold him longer and then get even more annoyed if he still stirs. It's just that sometimes i put him down and he lifts his legs up, wriggles around, trumps, and wakes himself up, even with the swaddle on. Grrr. Tonight i was about to give up settling him, and go to bed with him, so i walked him downstairs to tell DH and put DS2 down so i could get ready for bed, and this time no squirming and he's stayed asleep. Kids eh? Oh, and when i woke in the night after falling asleep feeding him (1 hour later) he still wakes up. Grr got to go-he's awake again

pulapula · 06/06/2009 07:37

well in terms of sleep i had the best night in ages, asleep by 10.45, fed LO 2.30-3 and 6-6.15 (bed to myself with LO) and awake at 7.10.

But my breast is in agony- every movement causes pain. i've described it in this thread i started www.mumsnet.com/Talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/766046-Advice-please-worried-i-might-be-developing-ma stitis?msgid=15700344 if anyone can help, especially belgian if you are around. It's so bad now i am not sure i can feed LO from it or even express (I know i have to but it is so painful).

Tummum · 06/06/2009 09:05

Pula really glad you had a better night. Your breast pain sounds really really horrible. I think if it is that bad you need to go to a walk-in centre as there is no way you should struggle on through the whole weekend without it being checked out again.

Blottedcopybook · 06/06/2009 09:43

Pula Don't delay in getting seen, you really must get checked out ASAP.

I went to brush my hair this morning and a massive layer of my scalp came away. My skin is so bloody dry! This happened with my scalp after one of the other DCs as well, I just hope it clears soon. Anyone else having rampant skin changes?

Must dash now - off to Asda to get enough food to feed half of the locale, despite only 8 RSVPs. I hate children's parties sigh

Febes · 06/06/2009 10:04

Morning- Hen update 5 days, 7 eggs, 2 double yolkers!!! We love having hens .

DD and DS both slept really well last night. My mum woke DD after 8.30am this morning (she went to bed at 7pm) and R has finally gone 3 hours between feeds for the past 24 hours apart from a mini frenzy around 7 last night. He settled really well between feeds and went straight to sleep in his basket. I feel mainly human today .

Pula I hope your pain is sorted soon and you see someone that can help.

Fi it sounds like you and G are doing really well (apart from the hives) well done on the Bfing.

FiKelly · 06/06/2009 10:31

pula grace is another that likes to sleep on my shoulder happily then wake up when i lie her down. it doesn't seem to matter if i pop her down after a while or straight away. wind seems to be the main culprit to wake her when i lie her down. she squirms about a lot. on picking her back up she often burps needs a top up bf then swaddling again and off to sleep she goes. although this process can end up being repeated quite a few times! during the day i take advantage of the shoulder snuggles but when ds needs me or at 2am i'm keen to pop her down to sleep quickly

FiKelly · 06/06/2009 10:44

pula just seen your breast pain post.. i'd phone the out of hours doc asap it sounds awful and definitely better to get it checked out.

FiKelly · 06/06/2009 10:55

blotted arrrgh at your scalp.. I hope it's not in too visible a place. good luck with the party too i hope you're not totally over run!

febes very of your hens one day we'll have somewhere with a garden of our own we can put chickens in..

Belgianchocolates · 06/06/2009 12:44

Pula I've had a look at your breast pain post too. What you initially had sounded like mastitis. I also think that your symptoms now sound more like thrush. The nipple pain and sharp pain inside are classic thrush symptoms. Taking anti-biotics can sometimes lead to women getting thrush and so it could be a result of your course of ABX. Does your nipple and areola look more red than normal or even a bit shiny?

Here is a good leaflet from the Breastfeeding network about treatment. It's useful to have the info in case your GP is not sure how to treat it. Sometimes GPs tell you to stop bf, which is off course wrong. Because your baby suckles from your breast it can of course be passed on, therefore baby will need to be treated with some drops too. Hope this helps. Good luck. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Belgianchocolates · 06/06/2009 12:52

I think someone has switched babies again, because today the old more clingy C is back. I suppose it was too good to be lasting.

The good news today is that I managed to fit in a pair of pre-pregnancy trousers today . OK, they were my biggest pair and I did have a muffin top, but things are moving in the right direction, so I'm a very happy bunny!

blotted Good luck with the b'day party.

fi I'm glad you're getting on so well with the breastfeeding this time around. You must be so proud

FiKelly · 06/06/2009 13:46

belgian i am chuffed but was surprised initially how draining i found it. things are noticeably a bit easier now so think the worst getting started bit is over.

weather is pants today so we're all having a pj's day.. g woke at mid night last night and wouldn't settle. it was after 3am before she went to sleep.. need match sticks for eyes today.

Belgianchocolates · 06/06/2009 13:56

fi It does get much easier once the newborn and learning stage is over. In the end babies get so efficient and bf that a feed only takes 15min or so, C is nearly there.

It's very wet here too and cold. I don't fancy doing much at all today. It's much warmer to just sit and let C keep me warm

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 06/06/2009 14:16

Hello all just realised I can be in your club now!

Babygrump is on single phototherapy now, which means she is out of the incubator. She has a groovy glowing pad stuck to her instead. Last night was the lowest point, she had lots of tests during the night & wouldn't settle, so I had no sleep until 5am. I was stood over the incubator, tears streaming, feeling useless. Poor DH though, he's been worried sick, but was looking after the other 2. He got a really good cuddle in with BG today though. It's been really tough because apart from bf'ing her, I've had no real physical contact with her.

I'm making up for it now though! She has more blood tests at 8 so we'll see if her Bilurubin (sp?) levels have dropped again.

Belgianchocolates · 06/06/2009 14:42

hi grumpy Congrats with the birth of babygrump. I hope her jaundice will go soon. I presume now that she's on single phototherapy she's back with you on the p/n ward? I also hope you're getting more cuddles with her now too. If the bilibed is the type we had where I trained (sounds like it), you can put the pad in her clothes and still cuddle and feed her with it in situ. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the 8 o'clock bloods and hope that the bilirubin keeps going down.

Grr, I really need to learn to have a bib/muslin on me when I carry C after a feed. Half the time I end up with baby vomit on my top. Like now, sigh...

FiKelly · 06/06/2009 14:59

grumpy great bg is out of the incubator :-) enjoy those cuddles and will keep fingers crossed for even lower bilir levels later..

daizydoo · 06/06/2009 15:05

Hi there, have been reading but not had the time or opportunity to post - typing one handed is not my forte! Sorry for not name checking - memory is like a sieve!!

Have had a bad week with ds1, he's just been very high maintenance and that combined with the terrible 2's has left me in despair! He's refusing to do things I ask and has developed a very high pitched squeal which is ear piercing!

Today has been the worst day, but I can't even blame the kids! Went out to the car to find someone had smashed my wing mirror off and made off with the glass, from our driveway Went to the garage to find out about getting a new one - oh that'll only be 86quid Having said that dh is trying to stick it back together and replace the glass. I've also managed to bump the front and back of the car in the multi-storey car park - thankfully not damaging the car! Anyhow enough of my whinging and moaning! Did I mention that I've had a headache all week - it's okay I'm stopping now!

Grumpy - hope all goes well with babygrumps and you get home soon.

pulapula · 06/06/2009 15:16

grumpy- hope DD3s jaudice goes soon so you can go home. I know when I had DS1 i was quite happy in hospital with my private room and peace and quiet, but this time i was desperate to get out and so glad i could go after 2 nights.

Thanks for all your advice, especially Belgian. I just got a call back from the out-of-hours GP and she has faxed a presription to the local chemist for collection this pm. She said to double-up on my ABs for the next 2 days (as some people need a stronger dose but they are obviously doing something as the flu-like symptoms have gone), then she is prescribing me some different strong ones, and also something for thrush as i mentioned that i thought it could be that- not sure if she'll do something for baby too, but if not, i can go to my GPs on Monday. I wonder if it is a bit of both as I have a new (bigger) red area on the breast as well as the one that was there when i saw the GP but the nipple thing is something new. It's not really red and itchy but is swollen. I really don't want to stop BF but this is so painful. I saw a friend the other day who developed mastitis and spent 3 months continuing to BF (she couldn't get the hang of expressing which at least is less painful) whilst trying different ABs and treatments. I think i will give it a week or two tops .

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 06/06/2009 15:22

pula poor you. I do hope the new abx work and that you can get the mastitis sorted. It can be horrible. I've seen people get it so bad they need hospital admission and IV anti-biotics, so it's good that you're keeping a close eye on it and intervening early.

Anyway. Gotta go, DS needs to go to judo now.

SpangleMaker · 06/06/2009 15:23

Just popping in to say hello.

Great to see you here grumpy

I have got all obsessed with growth spurts lately and am attributing any unusual behaviour to this. I'm sure H has had one this week.. he suddenly looks bigger. I know there's supposed to be one around 6 weeks but as H was early I guess they will be later.

Proud mummy - H slept 5.5 hours last night and went 6.5 hours between feeds! Unfortunately I didn't make the most of it as I went to bed late and woke up at 2.30am out of habit, but it's good to know he can do it

pulapula · 06/06/2009 15:43

Thanks Belgian- i thought i was just hot and has a headache as the heating was on but DH checked and its not, and he said i was really warm. So looks like it might just be mastitis still fighting back.

It was really depressing this morning, but funny in other ways. DHs bad eye condition has flared up again, which means he can't open his eyes due to pain, and can't get his creams in as he needs to open his eyes. Luckily MIL came to take DD, DS1 and mum to her house for a couple of hours but it left DH me and DS2 home alone. I was wincing in pain (in the bath ) due to sore breast, DH was in his shades in a dark room not knowing where he was stood with DS2 crying in the sling. Then we came downstairs and whilst i cried through a BF, DH was crawling around on his hands and knees sobbbing and then i'd sob, and he'd sob more, and then we'd end up laughing as we were both so tragic. What a pair.

OP posts:
Momino · 06/06/2009 17:31

Pula, what a tough time. hope you're (and your DH)feeling better soon and sending you best wishes.

Daizy, echo the above: sorry you're having a rough time too and hope you're feeling better soon. can you take anything at least for the headache? if one ailment is relieved at least it's something .

belgian, well done on the pre preg trousers

i'm supposed to be making DDs' tea whilst Harper is nappying. instead i'm sat here catching up on MN and Fb. [lazy emoticon]

hope grumpy and babygrump home soon.

be back on later maybe.
