Here's a nice new thread for us to share our experiences with our new LOs.

Thanks everyone. I'm dosed up on paracetemol and ibuprofen and keep feeding on the sore breast first to try and keep draining that breast. I did avoid feeding on it last evening by giving a bottle of EBM which I know i shouldn't have done. Compresses are more tricky as DS2 has been sleeping on me a lot, but will do tonight. Just hoping he'll be OK at the docs- don't want him screaming as we wait to be seen. The shivers have gone- now i am flushed and headachy again. I will be if its not, but i feel better just knowing i will see a doc in an hour or so.

ses- my mum keeps saying i should put LO down, but I am not worried. I stressed about sleep training with my DD and spent too much time in a dark room trying to get her to sleep on her own and her not doing it and getting more over-tired and me getting upset as i felt a failure. I used to cry when she woke up early from a nap as it meant she was both tired and wasn't on the 3 hour routine i wanted. This way DS2 has a good nap on me, and I get nice cuddles and as this is my last LO i want to make the most of it (especially as i'm not usually a fan of the newborn phase).

A friend of mine reassured me by saying her DD only slept on her (night and day) for the first 5 weeks. Then she slept next to her and she would just put a hand on her tummy if she cried, and 2 days later she was in her cot . If our LOs were 6 months old, that would be different...but they are still insecure and need to feel safe and loved.

Thanks Pula - that's all v true

FiKelly · 03/06/2009 16:58

ses i'd be the same as you tackling one thing at a time makes sense to me and plenty of time to sort the sleeping.. we managed settling ds to sleep without us much better when he was about 6wks i think..

FiKelly · 03/06/2009 17:02

x posts with pula and can 2nd all of it

pulapula · 03/06/2009 17:04

ses- also good to hear your LO is growing bigger, even if the weight isn't going up as quickly as the health professionals want it to - maybe your LO is destined to be lean. Again, my DD was a big baby at birth (8lb 12.5oz) which was 75th centile or maybe even 90th? By 6 or 7 months she had gradually gone down to 25th centile and stayed there, sometimes loosing weight or staying the same from one month to the next. She is very skinny at 4 and not very tall but obviously that's her natural build.

pulapula · 03/06/2009 17:14

fi- i think by 6 weeks i will be ready for some more independent sleep from DS2 when I am not so tired (and when i have 3 DCs to manage on my own). DS2 is however making progress all the time, but i'm not rushing him. He has slept in his basket 2 evenings on the run, and went back in last night at 11.30 with some shush/pat and swaddling. When DS2 is in the sling i tend to shush and pat if he's unsettled which probably helped the transfer from me to basket. Little baby steps .

Ses Any gain is good, well done you!

Pula Hope it's not mastitis huge hugsFi Cheers m'dear, I should get a break once the kids are in bed.

Sorry if I've missed anyone again, I still haven't managed to catch the pages I've missed. G was on me all morning too up until about 2ish when she finally went to sleep. I'm done in, but pleased to say that for the first time in at least four years I have no dirty laundry! We've been rattling through it with the nice weather and my super kingsize bed is currently covered in tubs of clean washing. Now I just need to sort it all and put it away...

Oh! DH and I resumed relations at 15 days postpartum. I was a bit dry but other than that it was good! Well... as good as it gets when you're scared you're going to get walked in on by three children!

ses, very glad for the weight gain in any case.

pula, i 3rd what you say above on the sleeping (and cuddling). good luck at docs.

Belgianchocolates · 03/06/2009 17:52

sleeping I'm another one to agree. 6 weeks seems to be a turning point for lots of babies. My ds was the same up until 6 weeks he was with us, after that age we could start putting him down and he started sleeping in his cot on his own. From 8 weeks he would even be happy for half an hour under the baby gym. Someone once told me you can't spoil a newborn baby and they're right. Everyone was telling me that I was making a rod for my own back with ds, but from 6-8 weeks he became much easier and he didn't become clingy. Whenever someone would comment on me holding him all the time I would just feed them the 'you can't spoil a newborn baby' line and that used to shut them up!

pula hope you haven't got mastitis.

ses your lo has gained some weight, even if it's not as much as hoped. At least she hasn't lost any and as long as she's healthy and contented then I wouldn't worry too much

cuddles Another addict here. I always struggle to get back up and do something after a feed, it's much nicer to carry on cuddling C also has the cute kissable chipmunk cheeks and gorgeous folds on her arms and legs.

Right better go. C is trying to eat me even though she fed not too long ago and I need to sort dinner for everyone else too. Hmm, how shall I tackle this one...

Belgianchocolates · 03/06/2009 18:27

Waiting for the food that I prepared while C was screaming. Had to block it out, babies in slings and sharp knives just don't go together. She's feeding now, so happy again

febes I just had a look at your pics of your chooks. Your white one looks like mine! I can't remember the breed name either.

Momino · 03/06/2009 18:59

febes, love your chooks, am a bit as i'd love fresh eggs.

belgian, my H was screaming because i had to put her down between feeds in order toget toddlers in order. agree with you, best to block it out. we're happy again too .

SpangleMaker · 03/06/2009 19:02

Just having a little rest after a marathon poo clean up operation (1) leaky nappy with massive poo(2) huge poo no. 2 on mat (3) just got him into a posh sleepsuit someone bought us that does up in a strange way at the back with no easy nappy access, stupidly thinking his little bowels couldn't possibly hold any more poo and, yes, you guessed it...

I love H's post feeding face - all full, pink & sleepy with milk dribbling onto his chin... just a shame about what comes out the other end!!

I've really noticed a change in H over the last few days. He's not really doing anything new, as such, but he's so much more attentive and regularly has big open-mouthed smiles for me and is starting to make a wider range of noises other than grunting & crying.

Belgianchocolates · 03/06/2009 19:32

spangle Your H must be the age now that I found my other 2 became more active and playful. I know what you mean. I bet you'll find that he's going to start swiping at things and batting at dangly toys and stuff one of these days.

Belgianchocolates · 03/06/2009 19:34

oh and I meant to say that C did a naught poo thing the other day too. Cleaned dirty bum, took nappy away to put her in the bath and she only poo'ed while on her towel and all over her sleepsuit. Luckily it wasn't a posh one, but a cheap Asda one

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 03/06/2009 19:56

Spangle - can't wait for those big open mouth smiles

Anyone else looking forward to The Apprentice tonight? I'm sky+ing it incase of interruptions!

pulapula · 03/06/2009 20:04

Back from docs. Got some ABs- he thought it was probably mastitis based on me feeling similar when i last had it, and i also had a raised temp. It didn't feel too sore (and was only slightly red) but i had taken lots of pain relief- i can feel it more now. Will take a bath in a bit to relieve it a bit.

Spangle- its so nice to have you on this thread as you can give us a glimpse of what is to come. It's lovely to hear how H is developing- so exciting.

OP posts:
Jennster · 03/06/2009 20:18

ses It's on now too!

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 03/06/2009 20:22

Jenn - yup! Just put it on! Looking forward to the interviews later.

Pula - glad you've got ABs. Hope it clears up soon.

FiKelly · 03/06/2009 20:25

blotted good on ya for going for it with the possibility of the dc's walking in dh has been keen but need my cs incision to heal bit more till i'm comfy.

been feeding g for 2 hrs.. now she's happily asleep on me with yes the chubby cheeks and well fed expression fortunately the poo explosion was half way through so i can just enjoy the cuddles.

pula sorry to hear you need the ab's but glad you've got them.

LoobyLou36 · 03/06/2009 21:42

Evening all...just watching the apprentice and trying to catch up with MN

Matilda slept for 6hrs last night - from 10.15 to 4.15! yay!
Hope she does it again tonight.
She's still very fretfull for about 3hrs a night 5-8ish I assume this is colic.
Her bellybutton has swelled up tho the HV who came today thought it might be a hernia?? Said it was quite common amongst young babies? Said to mention it to the doc at 6wk check next week.

M now weighs 9lb 4 (she's put on 5ounces this week) and is now on the 50th centile so that's good news.

llareggub · 03/06/2009 22:46

Hello all

Just a quick note to check in. I'm not sure where the time is going. I can't believe DS is nearly 5 weeks old.

Proud mummy alert: George slept from 11.30pm until 7ish on Monday night. I took him away for the night and we spent some time by the sea so I suspect the sea air had a beneficial impact! We co-slept in a huuuuuuuge bed so I wonder if he just helped himself during the night without waking me. Either way, I'm not complaining!

He is putting on weight well but the HV has diagnosed tongue tie. She is coming here tomorrow to discuss whether we should get him snipped. I want to have it done but we have to convince the GP to pay for it.

Other news: DS1 has finally stopped breastfeeding which is a huge relief. I'm not sure that I'll feed George for as long as DS1. I'll see how I feel as we go on but tandem feeding was bloody hard work!

Hope everyone is well.

Momino · 04/06/2009 05:22

Bad mummy alert. Harper slept through a night feed when i should have woken her. it had taken awhile to get her to sleep (we rocked her from 8-930pm) so i didn't really want to wake her at 1030 pm before i went to bed as she'd only just fallen asleep.

I was sure she'd wake me at 1.30-2am but she slept through till 4.30 and is now feeding. I'm happy she can sleep for a long period but feel irresponsible that i didn't wake her for a feed before I went to sleep last night. guess i'll try to throw in an extra feed somewhere today.

I wouldn't be so bothered if she were gaining weight impressively. can't win at the good mummy game.
