Shulte, DD had clicky hips at birth and there is CHD in my family so Beth had to be screened. She also had uneven leg creases and is double jointed which are also indicators/risk factors. I don't know why I was surprised really.

Look at what my mum bought for Beth instead of the vibro-chair! Apparently the baby bean bags are really good for little ones in a harness and I can see how it would support them better than a vibro-chair. I can't wait to try feeding her using it for support as well because BFing Beth is quite a lot harder whilst she is in the harness.

mrsgboring · 30/05/2009 22:12

No time for a proper catchup - we have guests this weekend which is great.

Schulte, so sorry about DD1's fever and losing out on the wedding. How is she now?

Swali, that is so hard about your DD. I have a wrapsody sling (or GypsyMama, its old name). Can thoroughly recommend, and am also a bit of a sling nutter, so would be happy to help with any sling questions you have.

Thank you to those who sent hugs. Feeling a lot brighter for seeing loads of friends.

electra · 30/05/2009 23:14

Hi everyone Unfortunately I've been in hospital - I am on leave for the weekend. At my review with my psychiatrist the week before last she decided that I had become hypomanic and needed to go into a psychiatric unit for a while.....so that is where I've been with Isabella for the last week and a half....I had to go into a mother & baby unit which means we have to be in Derby until I'm better. But hopefully I should be able to come home soon. I miss my girls horribly

I'm coming to terms with not breast feeding Isabella and she seems to be doing well on Aptamil but I'm still sad, and in the end I couldn't continue anyway because my meds were put up.

Hope you are all well...

tristalewjac · 30/05/2009 23:39

electra - (((huge hugs)))
What a horrible time you must have had. You are so brave, you're doing well.
Hope the weekend leave goes well, are you seeing your girls over the weekend?
So glad you and Isabella were able to stay together. It must feel awful you, couldn't feed her. I know my mum felt awful for exactly the same reasons (she was admitted when I was 10 days old for same reasons, although wasn't allowed me with her). Please just enjoy the precious time with her and focus on staying strong. It doesn't matter you can't breastfeed her, you are still a wonderful mother, and are doing what you can. I have huge amounts of respect for you xxx

tristalewjac · 30/05/2009 23:47

Nutty if it comes to it that you can have the op if you go private, I'm signing myself up for helping with fundraising.
We could do a fanjo warrior fundraising march. With our fanjos out.

Actually I think I'll NOT do it with my fanjo out.

But I'll march for a fellow warrior in need!
Ooooh, we could have a big fanjo warrior party! A big party, not for people with big fanjos. Although, after childbirth.......................................anyhoo....em, hope your night out is going well.

tristalewjac · 30/05/2009 23:50

Gah!
It's nearly sunday. My last day before I move and I haven't packed a single thing!

I bloody well hate packing. Yuk.

I thought about it a lot. That'll do for now. Little steps and all that

tristalewjac · 30/05/2009 23:55

rachel I do the same as you with night feeds. Wee man goes in his moss basket beside me, then when he wakes for a feed I scoop him up, lie him beside me, hook him on and fall asleep again. The joys of me not having a DP! Loads of room for kids who will always end up in mummy's bed at some point.

tristalewjac · 30/05/2009 23:57

Hmmm, my small one doesn't lay in a bed made of moss, I forgot an E. He sleeps in a moses basket.

Must get sleep

tristalewjac · 31/05/2009 00:06

Goodnight people, hope I manage on tomorrow for a minute as it might be my last chance for a while.
If I don't manage on, have fun with your little families, keep your chins up, enjoy the sun (sensibly), and dont be afraid to go with your instincts.

Love you guys!!!
xxx

Schulte · 31/05/2009 09:07

Good morning everyone!

Well I managed to go to the wedding after all. DD1's temperature came right down and stayed down even after the Calpol had worn off so I decided to risk it and take H to the evening reception. It was lovely to see all my friends and have a fun night out! MIL then took the girls off me this morning so DH and I had a lie in. (He's still sleeping) BUT now DD1's temperature is slightly raised again - must keep eye on her.

Electra lots of hugs to you - have they said how long you'll stay in for? Hope things get better very soon xxx

Trista bye bye, we'll miss you!!!

PuzzleRocks · 31/05/2009 09:55

Trista - Moss beds and fanjo flashing. Were you on the sherry last night?
Come back soon.

Schulte - Hooray for going to the wedding. And thank heavens DD is better.

Nutty - Shit, what a disappointment. Bastards. {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Did you go clubbing?

Electra - Sorry to hear that. I hope your stay helps and you are back with your girls as soon as possible.

PuzzleRocks · 31/05/2009 09:56

Oh, I see her temperature is raised again, sorry. I hope she gets better soon.

gingersarah · 31/05/2009 10:27

Schulte - hope all is well with DD1, so glad you got to go out.

Trista, come back as soon as you can! We will miss you.

Electra - so sorry to hear that it has been so tough. I am sure you are doing a brilliant job. Keep us posted as to how you are doing and remember you can always come here to talk or rant or cry or whatever you need.

gingersarah · 31/05/2009 10:27

Good morning!
Selfish diving in with me-me-me alert:

TODAY IS A GREAT DAY
I FEEL FANTASTIC
!!!!!!!!

Last night V went to sleep at about 9 and I watched a WHOLE FILM and DRANK A WHOLE BEER and then went to bed and woke up naturally! At about 5.30! wondering what this strange calm, rested feeling was! Because DP took V into the spare room and gave her a bottle of ebm when she woke up AND I DIDN'T KNOW A THING ABOUT IT. (well I obviously knew about the existence of the milk which would have been difficult to purloin from my unknowing person but I had thought it a sort of doubtful experiment - we had no idea if it was enough, if V would take a bottle, etc etc).

Then when I saw V at about 6 when she was hungry again she looked SO GORGEOUS because it was so long since I had seen her, and she has definitely started smiling - only occasionally, only in the mornings and certainly not to order but they are REAL SMILES.

Yesterday V had another bad guts day but DP looked after her really well, he soothes her beautifully in the sling; and between that and 5 or 6 hours unbroken sleep I really feel like a new woman,

gingersarah · 31/05/2009 10:29

I wish I had a moss basket for V. It sounds beautiful and soft and cool; it would be studded with little wild flowers and look like the herbiage in that preraphaelite ophelia painting.

bronze · 31/05/2009 11:35

Sorry not been around. Some good friends came up yesterday for a bbq. They decided to stay so it was a late night.
I had a lovely relaxed evening though a my friend N is fab with kids and did their baths and everything and then asthe men had been playing golf all afternoon N and I went to the pub (with Izy ) and eyed up the yummy staff.

Bit peed off with dh though as he arranged to go out early today which he seems to think ok as he didn't know they were staying but I think takes the piss as he did know there would be chaos and hes left it all to me.

bronze · 31/05/2009 11:39

Izys been a bit grumpy the last few days and his nappies have been clean but he did the most humungous amount of poo this morning and has gone back to being his chilled self

I'm still sweating buckets and this heat doesnt help

Will go read and catch up now

WTG Nutty!!!

Damn shame about the letter, I'm not suprised you were so pissed off! But look at you having a great time inspite of it. Hurrah.

Hope hangover not tooooooooooo bad, seems like it was worth anyway!

Schulte, glad you got to go to wedding, hope that temperature stays down.

Bronze, sounds like you had a great day yesterday, sorry DH being a bit crap.

Trista, good luck with the move, I bloody hate moving, hope you have plenty of help. Hope you're back on soon.

Auld, Not suprised you're feeling PO'd with DH, and damn that you can't take those extra three months. I really wanted to take the full 6 months, but I haven't worked in france for 2 years so don't qualify for the financial help they give, not sure what I'll do in a few weeks when my maternity leave is up. I'd love to make it to the Luberon, likewise if you are lucky enough (ahem) to find yourself in Marseille, give me a yell.
Ahhhhhhhhh, yesterday after the football you could have heard a pin drop. It was the most tranquil night Zafirah has experienced.

Electra: so sorry to hear you're in hospital, but very pleased to read you have Isabelle with you and are seeing your other DCs this weekend.

Ginger what a difference a good nights sleep makes. Good on your DH fro doing his duty! Nice to read that some of our men are not behaving badly.

Swali, sorry about the hip, hopefully the sling won't be too much of a faff!

minush · 31/05/2009 13:34

Oh, MrsG, hello congratulations on Edmund, glad you're having a great weekend!

A student midwife was being trained up on me when I gave birth. DH only told me yesterday that she failed to get Z's head out 3 times. Glad he didn't tell me sooner, I only freaked out about possible damage to DD a little yesterday. Sure it can't cause any lasting damage - can it?????????????

Ginger, I know your questions were answered wisely and fully, just to add my voice to calls to ignore the book! Z is 6.5 weeks old and cooing and smiling and this has made it easier for me. She actually responds to me (a bit) it's great! Still feeding very frequently though and absolutely NO routine.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 31/05/2009 22:35

Hello lovely people

Schulte, so glad you got to go to the wedding - sorry to hear DD is still running a temp though. Fingers crossed she's back to normal soon.

Electra nice to hear from you! Hope you don't have to stay in hospital too long xxx

Swaliswan sorry to hear about DD's hip problems - a girl from my antenatal class had the same problem with her little girl when I had DS1, and three years on her little girl is a fantastic, active, happy toddler, so sending you lots of hugs and strength to get through it all. xxx

Nutty can't believe you've been out clubbing already, you're putting us all to shame! I can barely stagger from sofa to bed in the evenings.

trista we miss you already, come back to us soon xxxx

So after your questions gingersarah I went and re-read the Baby Whisperer and have to apologise - I'd forgotten how much of it is complete tripe! Looking back on it now, the only bits I found useful were her stuff on sleep - she's good on learning your baby's sleep cues, and getting them to bed at the right moment - also the EASY routine, not for any kind of timings but just knowing that Activity follows Eating was a revelation to me. Definitely ignore her stuff on breastfeeding and weaning though, it's complete tosh IMVHO.

I think the key with all the baby books is to take the bits out of them that work for you, and ignore the rest.

So we went to see DP's family yesterday and DS1 spent all afternoon playing in their garden, and today we took him to see the Ugly Duckling at the theatre, he loved it! So a good weekend, all round, although Orbit has mangled one of my nipples and made it bleed, so am invoking the 'fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck' mantra every time I feed him on that side.

Hope everyone had lovely weekends xxxx

mrsgboring · 01/06/2009 04:14

Good morning all . Trying to catch up properly with posts I have missed, though at four am I'm maybe not at my best. The dawn chorus is sounding lovely outside though.

Nutty, I'm sorry, I missed your post about your back letter on first read through. That is really shite, sorry. Well done on going out though.

Electra, for you being in hospital. I really hope you are feeling better soon.

Ginger, glad you had a good night.

Bronze, sounds like a good weekend apart from DH swanning off. Did you punish him suitably?

minush, hello . That sounds traumatic, about Z's birth, but I'm sure you don't need to worry about lasting effects.

I've had a fantastic weekend - lovely visit from friends. We still managed to have a good time, even though we had to organise everything round feeds and changes (they are very very child free people, but we all coped) I even managed to spend two hours clearing out the garage after they'd gone.

Edmund is still spotty which is starting to get me down, as it's really bad and all over his face and neck . Sounds silly but I really hoped he'd be better for his six week check, as it will be his first visit to our GP who has been so supportive during the pregnancy and I wanted to show him off in all his beauty, but even as his doting mother, I have to confess with spots he doesn't look his best.

Does anyone else have a complete velcro baby? I find it virtually impossible to put Edmund down without him crying. Some nights I do get a four hour stretch when he's in the moses basket. Other nights (like this one) he's awake within the hour in the basket and has to be held/fed/slung to get any sleep at all. In the day he's almost completely unputdownable. DS1 was the same, so maybe it's something I'm doing wrong. Thank God for my sling collection is all I can say.

gingersarah · 01/06/2009 08:23

WFH - OK I am a bit more balanced now about the BW!

MrsG - V is getting better but still very spotty and it is upsetting me a bit too. Still no matter how fiendishly neurotically I google looking for things I can DO or things that might be PROBLEMS or things I have done WRONG I can't turn any up, not even on sites by complete wingnuts.
She is also a bit velcro, but not totally, She loves to be carried when her gut bubbles are troubling her. I don't believe this is wrong, perhaps wishful thinking because it is nice to have a quiet soothed baby...On the BW site there was someone talking about putting their baby down for a nap and "shush patting" for 40 minutes to no avail.... sorry but at 5 minutes I would be getting on with my life with the baby in a sling. I have better things to do than adhere as points of principle to arbitrary matters of will. Does that make me a bad lazy mother? I suppose when your baby is big you can't do that but who knows how things will have changed then, and why should her needs be the same when nothing else will be the same?

I suppose I just don't believe that you can take a need away by not satisfying it. If she needs to be held, she can be held and happy or not held and I "win" but who knows what happens inside emotionally when she finally gives up on crying?

(I suppose a lot of this is driven by my luxury to be this way as mother of a pfb; and really I haven't a clue and am just doing what works for me now and it could be a disaster long term - but still my baby, my rules!)

mrsgboring · 01/06/2009 09:12

I completely agree with you - I don't think it's a pfb thing, though inevitably there are compromises to be made with more than one.

And you can carry around surprisingly big children in a sling (I used slings exclusively from four months to walking with DS1 as we both preferred it that way)

Thanks for the reassurance re spots.

BabyBolat · 01/06/2009 12:32

Afternoon

Quick catch up - so sorry if I miss anyone off

Trista - good luck with the house move - come back soon

Electra - ((hugs)) everyone has said all the right things but you seem to be doing so well - you are very brave and I admire your ability to cope with all this so well!

Nutty yay for night out! glad you had a great time - so impressed!!

K isn't too velcro-ey to be fair - think I am a bit lucky but then he has days where he just cannot be put down!

Am very today - K had his jabs this morning and his 8 week check and it was horrible - had really horrid dr / nurse thing that just pulled him around and jabbed him really hard - I know they have to do their job but she didn't even attempt to soothe him and he was really upset - not with the needles but the nakedness and playing with his little wigger! bless him - I also had to be weighed and let me tell you I have never been more depressed, have a whopping 2 stone to shift somehow and go on holiday in 5 weeks that is just my pre-preg weight not my ideal weight - would like to shift another half stone to get there! But having said that we have just booked a lovely 6 bedroom villa for our hols with a private roof pool (so at least I wont scare people in my bikini!!!)

Really sorry for the me post
