just booked an opticians appointment so have to get the bus into town tomorrow ahhh I hate the buses here

LoobyLaBoobs · 20/05/2009 18:30

haha!! how long do you think us with stitched up fanjo's should wait? because i am not attempting anything like that again til i KNOW its safe

PuzzleRocks · 21/05/2009 08:48

No idea really. I waited almost 4 months last time but that was tiredness more than the stitches. It would kill me to wait that long this time.
I'm going to ask my doctor next week at my six week check to have a look and see if everything looks ok.

mrsgboring · 21/05/2009 08:54

Puzzle, I think we waited that long last time too . We have velcro babies which doesn't help either. Not having stitches is so wasted on me.

Claireykitten · 21/05/2009 09:32

I know I didnt technically have an April baby but she WAS made in July so can I still join pweese I promise we'll be good and not make a mess!

Looby - I had a 3rd degree tear and was stiched up last time and we waited 7-8 weeks and everything was fine.

Morning all

London was a mix of emotions - I felt like my old self (plus a few hundred pounds again) trecking across London and having real adult, challenging conversations! BUT I did miss Kara a lot and had a little cry on the way up - although having said that apparently when I was away he was an angel, got home and he screamed! basically he had been spoilt with attention all day and didn't sleep so was shattered by 7pm when I got back and was not a happy bunny but we did have lots of sleepy snuggles!

Speaking of crying - Kara is in his big boy cot for the first time and I actually cried when I saw him because I realised how big he was getting and suddenly had visions of him going off to uni and not letting me kiss and snuggle him anymore! but having said that I did manage to hoover, do the washing and have a bath so am not all that upset about him sleeping there now!!!

We waited 3.5 weeks and I was ok but have to say the second time hurt more which was bizarre!

Snap Nutty! Hazel was awake from 2-5 AGAIN and just when she went back to sleep her silly big sister woke up and came shuffling into our bedroom. We sent her back to bed but then H was awake again... and then DD1 got up for good at 6am. Aaaaaargh. Am going to try a dummy tonight because I am so blardy fed up! At one point I was actually contemplating putting H in the downstairs living room and shutting the door so we simply wouldn't hear her any more. At what age can you start controlled crying?

BB yay for Kara in big cot and bath! Did you express lots of bottles or did your mum give him formula while you were out?

Ah I can't wait to send my girls off to uni!

Kalikaroo · 21/05/2009 10:57

Hi ladies. Sorry I haven't been around for ages - I've been struggling a bit with the baby blues etc. but am now starting to feel better (most of the time), and want to start posting again .

Has anyone else been finding that looking at MN is a bit depressing sometimes and makes them anxious about their parenting?

Have decided to just sick with this thread for the time being!

I haven't managed to post my birth story either because I kept feeling teary about it, but now I think I can since I'm feeling ok about it now. Will post it in the birth announcements section as soon as I manage to write it.

Feeling pretty positive now that the first few weeks difficult weeks have been conquered!. Baby is lovely and is mostly well behaved, though a feeding machine with an hourly milk habit! He's grown loads! BF is going ok too, though the the old nips feel like they're about to drop off at any second and when he latches I let out an involuntary "f*%ck" under my breath!

It been hard having the baby in a foreign country with no family or close friends nearby, but I think things will work out ok. DH has been trying his best, though we've been having lots of HUGE arguments, which I think has been mostly fueled by my horrible mood swings, tiredness and his general twatishness!!

Hope you're all doing well and that all your new alarm clocks are working efficiently!

Schulte · 21/05/2009 11:14

Hey Kali great to hear from you! Have you told us your baby's name yet? Glad you're starting to feel better.

Actually there is something wrong with my alarm clock - it keeps going off in the middle of the night! Also it's impossible to switch it off!

LoobyLaBoobs · 21/05/2009 11:22

Hey Kali you are doing so so well to be coping this great without tons of support. You should be very proud of yourself, quite a few of us have only just come back onto postnatal thread after having the tots so no worries =]

my baby blues were terrible last week, i didnt feel like me at all i was someone else. When oliver cried i just gave him to his dad cos i felt i couldnt cope, that it was my fault he was crying, everything just felt like so much pressure all at once. Trista has a little motto that we all like... i'll copy and paste what she put...

"Anyway, I've had a load of crazy horrible wobbly moments since having Lewin, and for various different reasons. But there's a way I get through it. As soon as I catch myself falling into a negative thought, eg "oh god I have so much to do the house is a mess" or "fuck, I'm alone and I don't know how to cope with 2 boys", I make a point of stopping and saying "little steps".
That's it, little steps. Because I have to take things slow, I cant put unnecessary pressure on myself, and I cant possibly know what life is gonna throw at me next.
Little steps. "

Think its great for when we're all a bit overwhelmed as its bound to happen!

I haven't done birth story yet either. i was so drugged up i can hardly remember it, remember blaring out beyonces' new song halo whilst high on gas and air lol! And being sick in one of those cardboard buckets which DP lovingly held out for me, expect it hit the bottom with force and covered him..woops

BabyBolat · 21/05/2009 11:24

Kali - I was thinking about you yesterday! Are you in Greece now?

Schultes - I expressed 2 70z bottles and 2 4oz bottles and he ate the lost - fatty bum bum!

KAra has been sleeping much longer through the night 4-5 hours which is nice but last night we fell asleep on the sofa at 11 and didn't wake up until 4 so just decided to stay there until DH went to work at 7!

BabyBolat · 21/05/2009 11:25

HV is coming today - know I am going to get my knuckels wrapped!

LoobyLaBoobs · 21/05/2009 11:38

My HV didnt turn up on tuesday :S probably for the best as i'm too ill to even function properly

BabyBolat · 21/05/2009 11:43

this will be how it goes

HV: SO, you havent been to any of the M&baby / bfing / parenting / massage groups
ME: no
HV: AND you havent been to clinic to get K weighed
ME: No
HV:you're a bad mother!!

Schulte · 21/05/2009 11:43

Wow BB how long did it take you to express all that milk? You didn't do it all in one day did you? V. impressed. The most I ever managed with DD1 was 2 bottles!

Well done Kara for longer stretches of sleep!

Kalikaroo · 21/05/2009 11:44

Just posted my birth story on the announcements page, but here it is for anyone that can't be arsed looking for it!

Sorry this has taken a while to post, but I've been a bit teary thinking about it until recently. Think I'm over it all now though, so here it goes!...my son's fast and furious birth story!

On April 15th I was 41+5 weeks and VERY fed up of being pregnant. That morning I went to the hospital for an ultrasound to see that everything was ok to continue with the pregnancy. The doctor found that my amniotic fluid was very low and said that that can cause problems such as the umbilical cord collapsing. The baby was fine though and growing well, and the placenta was also functioning well. She consulted with another doctor and they decided that the best thing to do would be to induce me and see how the baby dealt with having contractions. We agreed and I was taken down to the labour ward. I was about 2cm dilated at this point.

It was quite odd being on a labour ward without actually being in labour and I was pretty freaked out by hearing other women screaming in neighbouring rooms! . We were given a room with birth ball etc. and the MW hooked me up to the oxytocin drip (they don't do pessaries here) and left us for 20 minutes to see what would happen. They were also monitoring the baby's heartbeat and the contractions, but I could still walk around, so that was ok. DH popped home to get my birth bag.

After 20 minutes not much was happening so the mW turned up the drip. A doctor came and had a look at the baby's heartbeat trace and was a bit concerned about the heartbeat being slow so she thought that putting a monitor attached directly to the baby's head would be a good idea. While she was doing this she broke my waters (before I'd actually had any contractions!) and said "well, looks like your baby is coming today!".

Pretty soon after that I started getting MAJOR contractions that quickly became unbearable. They didn't have any build up at all - just straight into the peak and then another contraction would come before the last one had finished. I tried the gas and air but it was about as much use as a chocolate teapot! At this point I was really starting to panic because I just couldn't handle it at all. I asked the MW to sort out an epidural pronto and she went off to find an anaesthetist.

After a while (lost track of the time! ) the anaesthetist came with his assistant and tried to site the epidural. I had to lie on the bed, but he couldn't get it in so I had to sit on the bed with the assistant holding me in a crouched position, which I have to say was the most excruciating feeling I've ever had in my life since sitting like that during these contractions was awful. He had 3 goes at it, and eventually got it in and after about 15 mins or so it kicked in and I could have kissed him (if he'd still been around!). I was shaking like a leaf, but ok.

After an hour and a half I felt like I needed the loo so the MW took me there (I had a walking epidural and could walk around without much difficulty, though I had to take the drip stand and the fetal monitor with me). While I was there I really felt like I had to poo!! I had a sneaking suspicion that the pushing phase might be coming soon...

After I got back from the loo I started feeling a lot of discomfort in my bum and the MW said that the epidural was wearing off and that she would top it up once she'd had a quick look to see how dilated I was. She had a peek and said "10cm - time to push!". I nearly cried when I heard that because I would have given my right arm to have an epidural top up because I was so scared of feeling those contractions again!

The next bit happened in a bit of a blur, but there were 6 people in the room at the end because the obstetrician had to be called because the baby was getting seriously stressed by the contractions and his heartrate was going through the floor. The obstetrician decided that he need a bit of help and had to be born asap, so she used the ventouse and he was out! Poor DH was pretty shellshocked by this point and was just sitting in the corner watching, but he managed to get up and cut the cord!

They cranked up the oxytocin and the placenta popped out soon after. The whole thing from first contraction to the placenta coming out took 5 hours, so it was all a bit fast and furious.

Even though he had had a rough time, the baby's apgar scores were good and he was put on my chest for some skin to skin snuggles while I was stiched up (second degree tear, but no episiotomy! Yay!). Didn't feel a thing.

After a while the MW took me for a shower (does anyone else feel amazed that you can actually stand up and walk after giving birth??!) which was the best shower I've ever had. While I was there our son was having a skin to skin snuggle under his dad's tshirt! He weighed 8 lbs.

So, there's my birth story. Bit of a far cry from what I wanted - natural, waterbirth, no epidural, giving birth upright etc. but I'm just glad that he and I were both ok in the end.

If there's a next time and I have to be induced, I'm getting and epidural put in at the same time!

The main lesson I've learned is that you have to go into childbirth with an open mind - things don't always turn out the way you'd like or expect, but if you have an open mind you can come to terms with that. I have anyway.

Schulte · 21/05/2009 11:45

BB nobody can expect you to go to those groups - it's nice that they are provided but there is no obligation to attend

Re. the weighing, I once got told off for having DD1 weighed too often!

Schulte · 21/05/2009 11:49

Kali - sounds like it all happened really quickly. Well done you!
