Good evening from a perky Essie! Iestyn has been settled since 8.45, so less than 15 minutes struggle.
It started off much the same as last night, but tonight I tried to cuddle him. He wasn't having it though, and kept trying to escape. I thought maybe he was tired, and put him in the cot - nothing doing, he started mucking about and asking to be picked up. I picked him up and he started playing around, so I had a strop (a mental one, don't worry!) and put him in the cot, and walked away. I was bracing myself for big crying, but actually he didn't cry - he shouted indignantly a bit, and then things went quiet...nos da Iestyn! Admittedly he's facing the wrong way in the cot but I'll move him later.
Ali does that sound like the controlled crying you do? In fact, can anyone explain controlled crying to me?
I'm aware this might be a fluke, but the signals were all like last night and the night before and all other nights. I'm wondering whether me being in the room trying to settle him isn't the answer - I'm better off walking away. Ktpie he settled immediately for Tim the one night Tim was here.

House is tidy and once the washing is in (we have 45minutes extra light in the evenings compared to London - but Abdn I suppose you don't even have night now! ) and then off to watch some crap telly and maybe drink some wine... yaaaaay!

That's great Essie, sounds like controlled crying to me, well done. Did you see my question before about hay fever and honey - is it you with bee knowledge?

pureeandpearls · 05/06/2009 20:59

I sometimes think it's too small Debs.

[Waves to Essie then goes back to her dessert]

Hello everyone - I keep thinking it's Saturday today as I am now a part timer! What a lovely day I had today. Had coffee with one of the other mummies I know and her little one who is 2 weeks older than Luke then a pedicure and a haircut and colour. Feel fairly bad that my lovely day didn't actually involve Luke . Luke's walking is really getting going now. He can walk across a whole room now. I treid to video it today but then I remembered my stupid iphone doesn't have video!

The settling thing - Luke has gone the other way - he practically jumps out of my cuddling arms to get into his cot and go to sleep. What would I rather have - easy to settle and waking at 4.15 or the other way? He did actually wake at 5.55 today and I am hoping it wasn't a one off. I have been home alone all week as Mark is in Tokyo. Thing is Mark and my paths cross so little during the week I am not doing any more than I normally do.

Josey - I hope Oli's birthday was a day to celebrate. I hope I haven't missed anything and she is doing OK. I haven't been on for a few days.

Hi to everyone else and hope you and all the babies are well (tonsilitis getting better and no chickenpox!). Hi to Ktpie and congratulations! Puree - if it's nice next week we should meet up and I will try not to get burned! I don't think our London meet up is ever going to happen so i'll just meet with everyone one at a time!!

vivaGlasvegas · 05/06/2009 21:30

Hi all, have been lurking but v busy so no time to catch up until today.

in a last but not least fashion, Charlotte has finally managed to crawl, albeit in a rather odd fashion all of her own - one foot flat on the floor and one knee - strange!

She is officially not allowed to learn to walk for a while though, as i took her to get her feet measured today thinking i might buy her some crawling shoes and her feet are too small, barely a size 1.5. She's also still too light for a front facing car seat My friend says she has visions of Charlotte turning up on her first day at school in an infant carrier with bare feet!

hope you are all well, good luck with spot watch puree

DebInAustria · 05/06/2009 21:44

Rolf - a quick plea, our Which subscription has run out and apparently they've looked at car seats again this month - would you mind very much telling me which non isofix they're recommending now for this stage? Been trying to get to see a Kiddy Infinity in real life but non round here.

DebInAustria · 05/06/2009 21:46

Amber - good to hear from you, sounds like you had a lovely day, don't feel guilty that it didn't involve Luke.

Mellymell - sorry, meant to say welcome back

Viva - well done Charlotte on crawling, bless her tiny feet!

pureeandpearls · 05/06/2009 21:56

Debs- Kiddy still top then Maxi Cosi Priorifix. If you are anywhere near me when you come back you can check out our Kiddy carseat. I can do a videoclip if it helps!

bitofadramaqueen · 05/06/2009 22:01

viva just been on fb and saw the pics of the armadillo version of a paddling pool! 'tis fan - where's it from?

bitofadramaqueen · 05/06/2009 22:03

Ah, pesky iPod, I meant fab not fan. S isn't in a front facing car seat yet either btw - clearly a couple of bday buddy lightweights!

vivaGlasvegas · 05/06/2009 22:07

Deb I've looked on which for you, none of the best buys are non-isofix apart from the kiddi infinity which is still top. the highest rated non isofix one seems to be maxi cosi tobi, although the priori isn't reviewed separately as nonisofix but is mentioned in the isofix review -

This seat can be fixed using Isofix mounts or seat belts. But when installed using seat belts, while it isn?t unacceptable, it offers slightly poorer protection in front crashes. So it doesn?t make the Best Buy grade in belted mode.

hope that helps - still can't decide what to buy here...

vivaGlasvegas · 05/06/2009 22:21

BDQ it's from Sainsbo's, was about 8 pounds I think. the built in sunshade bit is v useful. weight wise, I suppose we need to keep in mind that S and C (and babyWhingums) are the youngest on the thread!

Essie3 · 05/06/2009 22:25

Ooh, a discussion on forward facing car seats, yay! We haven't even looked because - viva, join us! - Mothercare refused to show us any because Iestyn is too small... He's not 20lb yet. I saw it as a money saver but I now have a new worry about carrying Iestyn to school in a sling and he's bullied...or maybe just trodden on... Being quite stupid, I don't know what the difference is between Isofix and non-Isofix. My car has Isofix bits in the back, so should I go for Isofix? And what's the best one according to Which, people with subscriptions?

Deb sorry totally forgot to answer your hayfever question here. Who's suffering, not Ethan? Because he's too young to have honey. Apparently, eating loads of local honey helps build up your resistance to local pollen. But I'm not sure how successful it is, to be honest: anecdotal, possibly. Still, it's a lovely thing to try and doesn't involve injections/pain/nastiness. But here. The teary eye is so not hayfever - I've seen Tim with blood red eyes during a really bad attack!
I'd also put in a vote for a Medical Herbalist for this too - seems the king of thing they could help with.

On the topic of hayfever, does anyone know when symptoms might appear? Tim has dreadful hayfever (or it was crippling when he was in his teens but is a bit better now, still quite bad though). I said to my FIL jokingly (must learn that he always misses the point...) that maybe it would skip a generation, and FIL said no way, Tim has it, he has it, his father had it. FIL doesn't really accept that Iestyn might have any of my genes! I did counter it, but I don't want to annoy people with hayfever. Anyhow, say Iestyn gets it, when would I know? We're surrounded by agriculture and crops here!!

X-posted. Crap, Viva, that means Iestyn is just small, no excuses!

Thanks for the car seat help people, Puree, the video clip would be great if you have time

Essie - no, it's Stefan that struggles with it, it was bad at the weekend but we were staying on a farm so to be expected I suppose but it's still as bad here, looks like I might be a bit too late with the honey idea as you should start to build up the immunity before hay fever season -oops. Stefan is such an outdoor boy too, it wouldn't trouble Tristan as much.Thank you for your help, how is Tim?

Amberc · 06/06/2009 08:46

Luke has hayfever - we give him infant Benadryl on the advice of the allergy doctor we saw. You have to pretend that they are over 2 though.

Car seats - we have a Tobi and we think it's fab. Luke is very happy in it and always falls asleep very comfortably.

PiggyPenguin · 06/06/2009 09:58

Quickly posting as a bit mad since we got back from hols. Re: car seats, J is also still in the baby one, he is so short he isn't anywhere near the top of it yet! I have no idea about his weight but suspect he hasn't made the grade there either. He is also one of the 'slighter' babies club then!

pureeandpearls · 06/06/2009 10:27

Will get onto it today Debs!

Toddlypearls gets hayfeever- we did the Piriton thing. Red swollen watery eyes, poor thing looks like I've been thunmping her!

Amber- could do Friday afternoon as am in Clapham on Friday morning.

bitofadramaqueen · 06/06/2009 11:28

Quick post - Essie, I normally suffer very badly with hayfever, I didn't start it till my teens though. Haven't suffered yet this year though.

Viva, thanks for that. Will have a look in our local sainsbo, although am also still considering the pop up elc one. Decisions, decisions...

neenztwinz · 06/06/2009 13:55

Just wrote a really long message and lost it

Hi to everyone, sorry not been posting just had a crap week with DH working too much (post-holiday blues!)

Congrat to ktpie - great to hear from you! And glad everything is still going well for you Sponge.

We've had a few steps here from E, and her balance is brilliant, but T shows no signs of walking yet!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 06/06/2009 19:58

Hi everyone, just v quick post as for some reason seem to be suffering very badly from anxiety today and have convinced myself that my bump has shrunk and we've lost the baby .

Starting to get very concerned that I still don't seem to be able to feel Bill move and have been tearful all day about it.

Anyway, nothing to be done but wait .

poppy34 · 06/06/2009 20:22

sponge its still early days so bill can swim, your placenta can move etc etc so please try not to worry too much about feeling things all the time. I tortured myself to about this so I know it's agonising but was told not to worry by my doc(and I must have asked this most weeks). Also fwiw I seem to remember for me anyway movement wasn't terribly obvious til late 20s.
Glad we have car seat chat here- got one for south Africa that is forward facing .
Chilling out so will catch up properly later - hi to everyone- edie got over excited/over tired so very disturbed night last night. Think getting moving defo sends them a bit loony at times- e was acting like a new born(wanting milk and refusing to settle off mama)

bitofadramaqueen · 06/06/2009 20:30

Hey sponge, sorry you're feeling anxious. I def had several days where I felt like that when I was pg with S. Hope you get some reassurance soon.

DebInAustria · 06/06/2009 20:40

Sponge - so sorry to hear your so worried today, Friday's the scan isn't it? Is there any chance of seeing the Dr/Midwife on Monday to set your mind at rest? You haven't any pain or bleeding have you?

abdnhiker · 06/06/2009 20:49

sponge sending hugs - I'm sure bill is fine and you're just suffering from the horrible horrible hormones of pregnancy.

Fraser's one tomorrow - we've made the cake tonight! He's one of the older ones on the thread and he's still in his infant car seat too. I haven't weighed him in ages but I did just weigh DS1, who's turning three in a few weeks, and he's just 12.5 kg. So I'm really not expecting Fraser get bigger any time soon! We're going to move Fraser into one of the convertible stage 0/1 seats, still rearfacing, until he's well over the 9kg limit and then we'll turn him around forward facing (DS1 was two before this happened!
