My cousin combined her 40th with her aunt's 60th birthday party so they had a joint 100th - the same year we went to a 50th and a 90th (!) birthday celebration.

elkiedee · 25/05/2009 23:00

My cousin combined her 40th with her aunt's 60th birthday party so they had a joint 100th - the same year we went to a 50th and a 90th (!) birthday celebration.

Bramshott · 26/05/2009 11:24

Runny - you absolutely shouldn't feel guilty at sending W to nursery and spending time with J. One on one time is really precious I think, especially with the big ones who are in school so much of the time. I have N here today while O is at the childminders - she opted for staying here even though I am working because it's nice for her to have a chance to set up a game without O crashing through the middle of it!

SOL - I think the idea of having a celebration for you 40th is a great one, especially after the year you've had. However, I'd try to look for ways to do it cheaply if it were me! Could you hire a local hall and everyone bring a dish for dinner?

Northernlurker · 26/05/2009 11:27

B is at nursery today whilst I am at home with big girls because I'm trying to do decorating! Big girls are easy to manage - so far they've emptied the dishwasher, taken washing downstairs and hung washing out. I also gave them a bucket of water and instructed them to clean the garage door and then (because they enjoyed it) they moved on to the windows....windows now rather smeary but no worse than before - and it's kept them away from Dr Who and Robin Hood for an hour

MJreturns · 26/05/2009 12:54

Hi ladies. Not much to do here today, taking the car into the garage for them to assess the damage in a bit but that is about as exciting as it gets!!

Runny, don't feel guilty. I get only the very occassional day with ds on his own and I love it!

SPB, hope you are ok xx

Sexonlegs · 26/05/2009 14:40

Hi lovelies

Thanks for all your comments/ideas re the party. It is something I really want to do, so will talk to dh again and see what we can agree on. The plan is to hire a community centre which is about 200 quid. The expensive bit is the band and dj which are 800 quid But, I love live music and this band performed at my cousins 40th and her dh's 40th. They are also the cheapest out of 3 quotes I got!! So, just food/drink. Don't feel I can ask people to bring stuff, as quite a few will be travelling a fair distance and will need to fork out on hotels.

Time to ponder!!

NL, your older dd's sound great - do you hire them out!!??

SPB, how are you and T today?

Runny, echo what others have said with getting time with the older dc. Dh has B today whilst K is in nursery, and they went to see Hannah Montana at the cinema!! I have them both tomorrow, and then Thursday, K will go to nursery again and it will be me and B together.

Elkie, how are relations with your dp today?

MJ, hope the trip to the garage is not too costly.

Hope everyone is ok.

StealthPolarBear · 26/05/2009 17:38

SOL, I hope you can find a way to do it while still having a holiday, even if a cheaper one. Your party sounds lovely, and as Bramshott says you have been through loads recently!
Sorry for wingeing everyone, i was feeling incredibly sorry for myself last night, thought things were awful between me and DH and T was being a pain. Well we talked about it, and cleared a load of stuff up. T screamed himself to sleep but then only woke at midnight for a feed and then at 6 and has been lovely today - it's amazing how much better I feel after sleep.
He does seem to ahve a rash over his body though, I think it looks a bit like the start of chickenpox, but he is absolutely fine in himself - is that likely?

Sexonlegs · 26/05/2009 19:49

SPB, glad things seem brighter today. I always feel as though dh and I are at each others throats if the girls are being a nightmare.

K was a pita last night at bed time. I think it was due to the fact she wasn't tired, as she fell asleep on the way home from my parents between 3.30 and 4.00. So come bedtime, she kept opening the door and trying to escape, and when I put her in her cot she was trying to climb out! Dh came to my rescue at that point as I was struggling and had such an awful headache. She was much better tonight thankfully.

This laptop is so slow- it is doing my head in!

Right, need to sort dinner and then I have work to do (for dh's company for which I will be paid - all money towards the party

MJreturns · 26/05/2009 21:15

SPB, glad T is better. Does his rash look poxy (is that a word?!). You can get sometimes quite nasty rashes post viral, so it could be something as innocent as that, especially if he is so well with it

SOL, hope you have told dh that your money earned tonight is for the party fund! My mate had a party for her 40th, she had a dj and he played mostly 80's music which she (and I tbh) grew up with. It was fantastic, best party I have been too in a long time, fuelled by vodka that night I admit!

I am feeling a bit light headed and I have only drunk one (large!) glass of red wine. I am such a bloody lightweight these days! The wine is delish though. Haven't picked out much in the way of good red wine lately, but this one is yum. Maybe that is not a good thing actually as I will drink too much of it!!

oooggs · 26/05/2009 21:49

any news on yours friends test mj?

MJreturns · 26/05/2009 22:00

No, tried to call her earlier but she didn't answer and hasn't called me back. Really hoping that doesn't mean bad news, will try her again tomorrow.
I don't want to pester her, but want her to know I am here if she needs me iykwim.

MJreturns · 26/05/2009 22:05

And good news about my car. The damage to mine wasn't much and apparently I am only liable to pay the excess on my own damage, the insurance company pays the whole bill for the car I reversed into.
I took mine to be assessed today and the guy told me it only needed a new light at the back. That cost me £80 but they fitted it for free so now I can cancel the claim on my car which would have cost me £200. Some good news on the money front at last, woohoo!!!

Sexonlegs · 27/05/2009 08:08

Morning all.

Good luck to your friend MJ.

Fab news on the car front .

What's everyone doing today? I have B and K today and they are already at each others throats. I hate to say this, but I really do not enjoy having them both on my own. I spend the whole time clock-watching and breaking up fights. Tis very trying.

Better go!!

MJreturns · 27/05/2009 09:13

I know the feeling SOL! My two have been yelling at each other already this morning and it does wear you down. We are off to a soft play place this morning so hopefully that will keep them busy for a bit!

morning everyone
good news about the car MJ Hope you hear from your friend today
I did think the rash looked a bit like chicken pox but it's vanished now! We had a dreadful night - he was up at 12, 1, 4 and 5, but no temp, no spots and nothing hurts so not sure what's going on with him at the moment.
Luce - who are you waiting for? Sorry if I've missed something.

Sexonlegs · 27/05/2009 11:50

What a pants night SPB, hope it is better tonight for you.

Luce, long time no see. I do not know how you lot with more than 2 cope; especially on wet days. We were going to go to the zoo, but we went bowling instead as it was peeing down. It looks as though it may be brightening up, so hopefully the zoo later. If not, we will be at soft play with a million others! What phone call are you waiting for? Hope you are ok. x

MJreturns · 27/05/2009 15:45

Still no word from my mate, will text her this afternoon just to let her know I am thinking of her I think.

SPB, that night sounds horrendous. Hope you manage to get some more sleep tonight xx

SOL, hope soft play was ok. We went and it was heaving, but both of mine had a fab time and should be exhausted by bed time tonight so that is good

Luce, hope you get the phone call you are waiting for

Sexonlegs · 27/05/2009 16:54

Survived soft play without injury!!

Kids are now playing in my car and have been for an hour!!

I am busy researching costs for my proposed party Dh says we will talk budgets tonight - that'll be fun, as I imagine his idea will be way-off mine. I'll let you know how I get on!!!

liath · 27/05/2009 17:46

Hi all,

I'd definitely push for a party, SOL. You're only 40 once . I'd echo that you really deserve one after the stresses with your mum etc.

I have to say that I'm coping really well with my two at the moment, the secret to my success is the 18 year old next-door neighbour! She's looking after them 2 afternoons a week while I do gardening or swan off to the gym. The kids love her and I get some head-space.

Luce, you shouldn't have moved it's been a glorious spring here!

That's a relief about the car, MJ. Fingers crossed for your friend.

Sorry for lack of personals as ever, am trying to keep pace with the thread but life just seems really hectic at the moment. DH and I are running in the Edinburgh marathon relay on Sunday, which should be fun (sort of....).

oooggs · 27/05/2009 21:19

Liath - you are very lucky (next door neighbour) and very mad (marathon relay)

mj - fab news on the car front

hey Luce - hope all ok with you & your 4 delightfuls

sol - hope party discussions going well & can we bring the kids?

dh on backs this week, af came today and I am EVIL. I am so cross, really angry, very upset, tearful and just don't know what to do first.

Bedtime this week has been hell, but now I feel all of the above tonight was by far the worst.

I am now eating chocolate and there is so much to do and it is getting late.

We booked a campsite today for 5 days in August.

StealthPolarBear · 28/05/2009 08:08

Morning everyone
SOL - how did the budget discussion go?
MJ - any news from your friend?
Luce - hope you're OK
oooggs, sorry you're so stressed. Hope tonight is better. When is your DH back on day shifts?

Sexonlegs · 28/05/2009 08:25

Morning all.

Huge hugs to you Oooggs. Hope you are ok.You need Liath's next door neighbour for sure.

Liath, good luck with the maratathon relay - sounds exhausting!!

SPB, hope you got a better night last night.

Well, discussions didn't happen as dh was working (from home) last night. Will try again tonight, although I expect he will be working again - ridiculously busy on a project (hence I have been brought on board temporarily). I'll keep you posted!!

The sun is out here today - hurrah!! K is in nursery, so it's me and B. Think we will go to a place where you can paint plates and other things, and also need to get her feet measured.

Better go; still in my pyjamas.

Have a good day lovelies. xx
