Oh that pudding sounds yummy, can it be done in the oven?

NJAN I'm a sahm too, partly because I love it and partly because my old job took a lot emotionally and while I loved it couldn't give 100% to both so decided this was as good a time as any for a career break. I'm waiting to do a course for a health course marking job, it a working from home position where I mark course work for health care assistent courses and social services courses but it's only 5 hours a week and flexible hours so can fit it around the boys. DS1 goes to nursery 5 mornings a week term time and they want him to start going 2 full days and 3 half days from September but I think 5 mornings is too much time, so I'm going to stick with current format.

Kayz this is not fun, we desperately need Clichy back Gibbs has made a dogs breakfast of it.

Veggiemummy · 05/05/2009 20:21

I guess you can't help what your born into Trace, I won't hold it against you. It's nice to know even though you can't go your friends will be praying for you. This may not make you feel better but I have heard (though not sure if it's true) that there are big concerns about 'that style' of baby looking after (can't say cos don't want MN to get in trouble), not the Turnip lite style but the full on style. I know for definite that BF groups are very against it cos it is not conducive with exclusive BF.

Man this is painful, why am I even watching it, I wish they would allow extra points if you spend less money on your team, we'd win hands down.

daisydora · 05/05/2009 20:28

trace I too have heard what veggie has just said. Don't let it get you down, babies aren't meant to all be the same. They are all little people with their own individual way of doing things. Yes the little blighters test us so much (especially on the sleep front) but little p is doing what is natural for her. I hope you get some sleep and feel better tomorrow. BTW I think the 'Pamper & Prayer' is a fab idea. I should mention that at my church.

spotofcheerfulness · 05/05/2009 20:37

Veg - DP: "he slipped , it wasn't his fault!" - and this from a Liverpool supporter .
Well, we took T to the allergy specialist today and they said he wasn't allergic to cow's milk and never should have ben on Nutramigen in the first place. So we tried this other one they've prescribed which is cow's milk-based and he liked it so much he necked a whole bottle in 15 mins (normally takes i.5 hours!) and then threw it all up . But once he's got over the thrill of something actually tasting good I hope it encourages him to feed more.
Trace, you poor thing, my utter sympathies, I've cancelled far more enjoyable nights than I've been to due to exhaustion, it's so demoralising. Btw, we follow GF lite-lite (T is not the conformist type, but just for nap times really), and T wakes twice a night so it's def no guarantee of anything, I promise! And he's FF, so everyone assumes he sleeps through automatically...

spotofcheerfulness · 05/05/2009 20:39

Lordy, but I fancy Jens Lehmann . He looks more and more like Morten Harkett every time I see him.

traceface · 05/05/2009 20:42

thanks guys for your lovely encouraging words
I've just watched an episode of 2 pints of Lager so am feeling a bit better and am off to bed now.
Night night xxx

spot - that sounds promising about T and the new milk. Hope it works out

JollyBear · 05/05/2009 20:44

Hello everyone,

I've skimmed as best I could, you've done lots of chatting and I've been away for a week!

arti So very jealous you snogged JD . Glad you got some reassurance, what an idiotic GP making you panic like that.

spot Fantastic news about your sister, she must be over the moon. My DD isn't much of a morning eater either. I hope T's referral comes through quickly.

trace Re holiday suggestions. I love Shropshire around Ludlow particularly, a nice combo of pretty towns and good walking country. We had a great holiday in Northumberland a few years ago. The beaches are gorgeous and not crowded like they can be in the south west. Both wouldn't be too far to travel.

The bottom examination won't be as awful as you imagine, honestly. I've had quite a few (all medical, not a weird fetish!) and a camera up the botty!! Lucky me . The staff doing it know it is embarassing and make it as comfortable as possible.

Big

JamInMyWellies · 05/05/2009 20:45

HI all,

oh trace just so you know you are not alone Lachlan too is still an absoloute nightmare at night. On Sunday he was awake pretty much all night until 7am then he slept for 3 hours. O too have been very much on the edge of tears with it all. Is there any way your DH could take both the LO's off your hands on Sat morn so you can sleep. DP did this on MOnday for me for the first time ever I hasten to add and those 3 hours of sleep were amazing.

Now where are those Essex girls come on ladies lets have a meet up.

When it comes to chocolate I am a huge fan of it. I do let DS1 eat sweeties chocolate crips etc but he also has a very varied diet with lots of veg and fruit. So I feel he gets a fairly happy balance.

Off to see my DSIS tom her flight has been moved forward and she is off to San Fran on Thursday then thats it we wont see her until Sep. HOpefully we may go to the US on hol this Summer and we can persuade her to fly and down and spend a few days with us.

Thats my mumsnetting over with for the eve DP and I have made a pact to not sit on our laptops all night grunting at each other.

tillyfernackerpants · 05/05/2009 20:58

evening all, will head over to the not-so-fatties thread in a minute but thought I'd check in here first.

veggie at exposure, I'm sure most people were concentrating on the trophy!

trace I'm sorry you're feeling up and down atm, wish there was something I could do to help. As daisy said, all babies are different & there is no guarantee that anything your friends are doing would work for you & P. Deep breath in & remember 'this too will pass' [hugs]

daisy & trace you sound like you belong to lovely churches. Our church doesn't really do anything like that, I'd love for it to be more involved. I guess its the school that's attached to it that does the work.

Well, we've tried to set ds2's naps a bit today, so we'll see if it works tonight!

Veggiemummy · 05/05/2009 21:01

Duck duck duck duck (replace D with F)

Veggiemummy · 05/05/2009 21:10

LOL at the Morten Harkett thing Spot. I loved A-ha as a teenager had a life sized picture of Morten in my bedroom. I met Jens a few years ago, but the rest of the team was there so was kind of hanging off Thierry and patrick instead. Also it was when he was in the doghouse with Arsenal fans so no one was talking to him.

JollyBear · 05/05/2009 21:38

zoe Just read your weaning thread. Good advice there!

DD successfully grabbed some circles of raw onions off DH's plate a few days ago, if it had been something like cucumber, I'd probably have let her have a lick, but raw onion! That isn't anyones idea of a good first food .

Right, must go to bed.

Oops, can you tell I'm tired.

Veggiemummy · 05/05/2009 21:47

We're going to bring up the high chair from the basement and have ds2 sit with us a dinner. He does now but on either mine or DHs lap. I gave him an apple slice to hold and lick today. I think this is how I will play it for a while and just slowly increase what he gets and make it easier to eat when he is about 6 months. For now it's just for exploring and teething relief not for nutrition. Just for fun really. I'm still enjoying not having to think about what food to bring along when we go out.

tillyfernackerpants · 05/05/2009 21:56

veggie poor Jens! Morten Harkett was my first pin-up!

Btw, is ds2 sitting up? Ds2 usually sits in his bouncy chair next to the table but I'd like him to sit up with us in the highchair. But he isn't sitting up yet so not sure if he'd be able to, though I can tilt the chair back. Sorry, rambling now, will go to bed!

notjustanumber · 05/05/2009 22:00

Veggie I think you could steam it, believe it or not, its tastes much better than you would think for being microwaved. Does need to be eaten straight away though, but thats not normally a problem in my house

trace Sorry you feel down today. No consolation but me too. I feel like a robot - cook - clean - feed- change clothes- wash - cook - clean - sleep - feed etc etc. I feel like I dont know who I am anymore but a carer. I havent had more than a few hours of time off since DS1 was born, as we have no family to help. Today DS1 wouldnt give me a hug and didnt want me to put him to bed, he wanted his dad. DH sat on his arse all day with manflu while I dressed, fed and sorted the kids. So they arent even grateful for the effort you make and I feel myself turning into my mum...

DH and I have decided we need to get in a regular paid babysitter so we can get away together. We sit and grunt at eachother with laptops too every evening. It didnt used to be like this !

Veggie, Tilly I bet its nice not to have to worry about work as well as everything else. But I think I would struggle if I could never get a day to myself.

Veggiemummy · 05/05/2009 22:38

I do miss time to myself NJAN but just before ds2 was born and ds1 was about 3.5years I got a some time to myself fairly regularly (just didn't do much with it as was quite rotund so generally just sat down). So I guess this time around I know that it is not never ending. Also this is my last child so while I am very sad that I will never have another baby I am also aware that before I know it I will have no one to stay home to look after so will have to get myself back to work, when ds2 goes to school anyway.

Veggiemummy · 05/05/2009 23:05

Ladyt DH and just realized we haven't watch 'We can be heroes' since we moved so it is still packed away. We are currently on a clear out drive of all the stuff downstairs so when we find it will copy it.

lal07 · 06/05/2009 08:34

Just a quick one from me - Spot I was reading ZJ's thing on KellyMom and also found this article. I thought the stuff on probiotics was interesting, and think I'm going to give it a try.

We had terrible night last night - culminating in me being up with both of them between 2 and 4. Blurgh. Although was quite endearing as once they weren't upset they were making each other giggle.

Will catch up properly later.

Veggie I mainly played at university, and then for a couple of knock about teams after that. One of the girls from my college team went onto play for arsenal ladies and their then coach (can't remember his name ) helped us a bit. This is all before the dawn of time though. Thanks for asking after me .

LadyThompson · 06/05/2009 09:01

Hello our girls

Back from my travels, although off to London tomorrow for a medical appointment about my insulin resistance (cross fingers I can go back on the Metformin as they make it easier for me to lose weight) then probably back up to MiL's on Friday to see DP's sister again before they all go back to Bermuda. Then Saturday is Badminton Horse Trials and Sunday is my cricket team's first game of the season.

Sorry to those suffering bad nights (and bad football) and Jam, I am glad things sound a bit more positive with your sister. It must be so awful for her with that AND the divorce and moving. Talk about stress.

Spot, it is interesting that T isn't allergic to cows' milk after all, isn't it? I am sure he will get used to it again very soon, but how nice for him that it TASTES a bit more appealing.

I might try DD with some baby rice again today. DP thinks that it's wrong until she is at least 6 calendar months but I think just trying stuff is ok. Mmm, Veggie, I think a slice of apple is a nice idea. Oh, and don't worry about Heroes - if you ever come across it and could find a minute to copy it that would be great but please don't worry about it. Gosh, most of my stuff is in storage in London and it is such a pain.

I will write more later but the truth is I am feeling a bit weary from all the rushing around, and I really need to do some work today...Big love to all.

traceface · 06/05/2009 09:36

Morten Harkett? I'm afraid I always preferred Mags myself - a bit less polished. And I felt a bit sorry for Paaaaaaaal for being the ugly one

Who was asking about work? Anyway I was full time till I had dd1, then when she was 9 months I went back on 3 days per week (then was signed off with PND for another 3 months!). I am doing the same with dd2. She is booked into the same nursery where dd1 went on the same 3 days. I am going back to work on September 14th, which involves me taking a few weeks unpaid leave, but it seemed crazy to go back when I was due back - August - just when dh and dd1 were on school hols. So I'll be doing 3 days but the difficult thing is that as a nurse I can't have set days, but nursery won't allow flexible days, so I end up needing the odd extra day (friends usually help out) or paying for days when I'm not at work (which can be nice to get on top of life again). I feel VERY unsure about being back at work this time and am going to give it until Christmas and see how I feel. It's likely that I'll be looking to change things then. The thought of P starting nursery saddens me, even though L loved every minute of it! I'm trying not to think about it too much.

lal sorry for your rubbish night. Mine was the usual...but I had an extra wake up when L decided to yell for me (the rule says she can only shout for me if she's poorly!), so I went down and the problem was "I don't want penguin in my bed anymore". grrrrrrrrr. By the way, what do penguins say? You are the animal noise guru after all!

I think P is getting more milk at night than in the day. By day she's now 3 hourly and has 3 sleeps usually, but by night she's 2 hourly or sometimes 1. She sleeps well inbetween so she knows night from day, but I'm not sure how to change the feeding thing. I tried to not feed her last night when she woke but I just can't settle her without it. Might ring my HV.

Well the sun is shining so I might try and do a few pots for the garden today. I have emptied out the brown twigs which were in them and will replace them with something living! (and hopefully something hard to kill!)

traceface · 06/05/2009 09:38

oh and Jollybear thanks for the reasurance re the bum. I have 6 more days to be gripped by fear prepare myself mentally for the appointment!

SummerLightning · 06/05/2009 09:45

Morning all,

Hope everyone had good bank holiday weekends!

I was at my cousins wedding, which was lovely, and E was well behaved and even slept in his pram in the evening, which is a first. Wahey!

Then we went on to Somerset to MILs. Which was ok, but it is a bit of a journey. And every time we go there, DH makes a list of things to do for his mum (he has always done this, but it is only really annoying post DS), his mum buggers off to do some gardening or something, and I am left looking after E. Which is what I do all day every day normally. So most annoying. MIL professes to be excited to see E, but not excited enough to actually take him off my hands for half an hour. Bah. She's actually quite annoying! But I don't like bitching too much on the internet so I shall stop now.

Oh other exciting news, my SIL is in labour. So I am awaiting news of new arrival!! I hope it is not 10lbs as predicted.

njan re contacting me/jj, I could try CAT on here but you don't have it turned on??
Or you can email Effie on personalnotbusiness att gmail dot com
(Effie hope you don't mind me postign that but I am assuming not as you have posted it before)

trace sorry you are feeling crap about the sleeping thing. I know it's not the same thing as E sleeps well, but I had the same as you before, my good friend round here is doing GF, and her baby slept 11-7 from 4 weeks. I just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, except worrying that I should be doing a rigid routine like her. And I felt, like you, that she thought I was useless and doing stuff wrong, though I am sure she didn't. And when she offered me advice I felt resentful. Then E just started sleeping through, and I thought, wow, I have it cracked. Then he started waking up again and at that point I realised that babies are a law unto themselves and I was just going to go with the flow and not try too many tricks. Which is easy to say I know when he only wakes once a night. But I guess what I am saying is they truly are all different, these babies!

Whoever was asking about routines, etc.

Normal day would be

Get up between 7:30 - 8:30
3 naps usually, morning, lunch and afternoon. They can be between 20 mins and 2 hrs!
He usually feeds when he wakes up, a big feed. I often give him a little feed, when he is grouchy before a nap (naughty, feed to sleep, etc)
Then he tends to go to sleep at about 7-8, and wakes usually once, sometimes twice in the night. From 2am onwards.

Right I have to go now, DS done a poo while in baby bouncer thing, and I can see it leaking, yikes (sorry TMI)

daisydora · 06/05/2009 11:05

When I was about 10 I sent a birthday invitation to the A-ha fanclub Would it surprise you to learn that they never came?

DS was good last night just up once at 3am We seem to have an alternate night thing going on at the moment where one night he's bad the next he is good!
