Seeing as LadyT broke the thread...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello,

I had a brilliant day yesterday!!! We had a lovely meal last night where DS1 was star of the show. He was asking for Beer and kept shouting "Drink" just like Father Jack from Father Ted.

Then this morning DH was at work for a few hours so I had planned a nice 3 mile walk next to the train line. Well half a mile in we stopped to stroke some horses and one bit DS1's finger, which then swelled up. Cue lots of screaming and a paniced run the the doctor's. All looks well and he was prescribed ice cream. It has gone down but I am a bit worried he will have a life long fear of horses now.

Tomorrow I am off to Whitby for Goth Weekend, must get DH to take a picture of me in all my gear.

Hope you are all well!!

JollyBear · 24/04/2009 16:13

Hello all,

Glad you had a lovely day yesterday kayz. Have fun at the goth weekend. My friend used to be a goth in her younger days and I used to dress in her clothes when we went out to rock clubs. I love the dressing up but not the music!

ladyT I never knew Vera from Peter's Friends is Emma Thompson's mum. I'm going to impress DH with that fact! Have a lovely weekend. What do you do about sterilising bottles when you are away? We are going away next weekend for the first time with DD .

spot Glad to hear T had a normal poo today. The poor fellow must have a very sore bottom after 3 weeks of the runs.

trace Ingenius idea about the ice pop. It's a shame P didn't appreciate it! Lucy's dream logic is v cute.

zoe What you said about the 6 month weaning thing is interesting. I went to a weaning talk last week and there was very little discussion about the reasons for the 6 month advice. I thought it was a bit not to discuss why the advice has changed or to recommend waiting till 6 months. The whole discussion/chart/puree introduction etc presumed weaning from before 6 months! I was really surprised.

We've had a really good day so far. We've been to a pottery cafe and made DH a mug with DD's feet on and I've been to town and finally got a dress for next weeks wedding. It's black which I'm not sure about. Is black OK for weddings or am I making a terrible faux pas? The woman in the shop said that lots of people wear black to weddings and just to put a light colour with it accessories wise. I've not seen most of this group of friends since DD was born and black is slimming! Anyone able to recommend some tummy holding in knickers that aren't hideously uncomfortable?

Kayzr · 24/04/2009 16:58

I don't really like the music either Jolly, just the clothes.

Veggiemummy · 24/04/2009 18:56

I tried being a Goth when I was at Uni loooooong time ago, but I was a bit to happy. I came across more darkly dressed hippy.

Spot that's great news about the poo poo. I used to work on an infectious diseases ward in Brissie. We had a room we called the gastro room because it's where we put all the kids with D&V. I could tell the bug or virus that was causing the D&V by the smell of the childs...erm poo. There is a pretend beach pool thing in Brisbane that I won't swim in because we had so many kids come in after swimming in it.

Trace that dream chat with L was so funny.

Poor DS1s finger Kayz naughty horsey. I love the 'drink' very funny.

I hadto take ds2 to the GP today as he has a oh gotta go someone is not happy

Veggiemummy · 24/04/2009 19:28

Right have been thoroughly screamed at but asleep now. Where was I oh yes took ds2 to the GP as he has a funny bit of maybe eczema around his ear that seems to have become infected. Lovely GP same one I saw for mastitis a couple of weeks ago. Was not keen to prescribe oral ABs which was good so going to try him on a antibiotic cream first instead. It could be the reason he has been a bit grizzly at times this week.

PMK when your back home get some panadol elixer. Only need to give small amount then as it's 100mg/ml instead of 120mg/5ml. When are you off?

JB you can get bags that you can microwave bottles to sterilize.

We are off to the snowdome tomorrow. Have been meaning to go for ages as it's only about 40 mins drive away. They have a little snowplay area that has a cafe over looking it so guess where I will be!

Also DS1 is back at football tomorrow after having a term off it starts at 9am and DH takes him so sleep in for me hooray!

sure I was going to add more but gotta go to fatties thread the get downstairs now this one is asleep.

Oh I remember what I was going to say. Ds1 has stopped using his little pretend mobile to call his friends now and texts them instead. I found that so funny. He keep telling me 'oh I've just tested X to tell him to come to the park with us' or something along those lines. Also with the holiday thing we went to Santirini last year so DS1 most recent so most memorable holiday place. But he actually seems to think we actually have a house there. We went there for a wedding for 2 weeks (a long time for a 2.5 year old) just after we moved to Derby. At the time he was missing his 'london home' and didn't like his 'derby home' so when we went to Santorini and we stayed for do long in the little apartment thing he figured that was his 'Santorini home' he told anyone who would listen that we had a 'london home a derby home and a Santorini home', no wonder all the girls at nursery liked him!

Olipop · 24/04/2009 19:53

Evening ladies! Hope everyone is well. Will go back for a check on your messages shortly.
Heidi is doing well although is a bit snuffly at night. I can't believe the size of the bogies that can come out of that tiny little nose (or is that TMI!).
DH is out on the piddle tonight so I might steal one of his Magners from the fridge and take the monitor out into the garden. Wonder how long I last until I realise that it isn't quite that weather yet!

sybilfaulty · 24/04/2009 20:05

Evening all

It's DH and my anniversary today - 7 glorious years so i am cooking a fancy dinner. Am so tired I would go to bed though if it weren't hugely unromantic. I haven't read the thread (will try later) but hop you are all well.

It's find out about school day here tomorrow so if the flag is flying at half mast over fawlty towers, you'll know why. My childcare arrangements for going back are hanging by a thread and if we don't get into this particular school, the thread is cut and the whole lot collapses. Please keep fingers, toes, nipples etc crossed for me.

Love to you all.

Veggiemummy · 24/04/2009 20:15

Nipples crossed, and have just crossed the legs of the very sad little sack of spuds that I am holding. I think either ear thing is hurting or coming down with something.

Happy Anniversary Syb! Oh hope no seven year itches then. I really do hope tomorrow is good news for you.

traceface · 24/04/2009 20:20

oh veggie I forgot to say the other day - that ping pong ball in the beer is a widget. It's a thing they put in cans to help generate froth! I am most knowledgeable on the subject because I made them when I worked in a plastics factory as a summer job

Syb - got everything crossed for you

Oli - nice to see you again. Your evening sounds ace!

Hope little Veggie-baby is feeling lots better soon xxx

SummerLightning · 24/04/2009 23:06

Evening all,
trace your dream story was very cute!
sybil I will cross my nipples and stuff for you!
Hurray for jj and better sleep.
arti hope you have good hols.

Right I was going to do a proper catch up but am going to get nagged to go to sleep soon, so no time.

Have friends round tomorrow, really looking forward to it as not seen them in ages.

DH has really taken to the term "cheerfulness". He never says beer any more, just "cheerfulness", bless him. Though I can see him doing it tomorrow in front of my friends and the explanation will be. "It's from mumsnet, DW's on there all the time, Her log in is Summer Lightning, you know, after the beer...." ... oh god....

tillyfernackerpants · 25/04/2009 04:56

Hi everyone, another 3am start for me & unable to get back to sleep. But instead of getting upset again I decided to look for the good side of it, I had to pick up ds2 to settle him down, he gave me a big gummy grin, settled himself against me & fell asleep. I just love that I can inspire that kind of love & trust in him. Oh dear, I'm getting far too soppy now

pmk how scary for you with ds, I don't blame you for having a go at dh! Did he accept he was wrong in the end?

jump glad you had a better night, it does make a world of difference

trace lol at your dd1 & her dream conversation. I love the little chats I have with ds1, they're so sweet & funny!

daisy lol at mil & her meds, though how nice she was finally supportive, will it last though?

arti hope you have a nice time in 'Italy'

veggie lol at your okey dokey comment. Ds2 really gets the giggles when I say 'up & down' & lift him up! Poor ds2 though, hope he gets better soon

kayz glad you had a good birthday. Ds1 sounds so cute! I wouldn't worry about the horses, ds1 used to be frightened of dogs after a little one jumped up at him but he's absolutely fine now. Have a good time in Whitby, you will have to put a photo up of you in your Goth outfits!

jolly sterilising while you're away, I really like this microwave steriliser from Boots, there's microwave bags you can get which don't take up as much space or there's cold water sterilisation with the Milton tablets I think it is. No advice on the style front I'm afraid, though I do think wearing black to weddings isn't a no-no anymore.

oli nice to see you, how long did you last in the garden?

sybil happy anniversary & everything crossed for tomorrow

summer have a nice time with your friends, maybe a swift kick to dh will stop him in time?!

Hope everyone is having a lovely sleep . Think I might catch up on Grey's Anatomy!

daisydora · 25/04/2009 06:41

Morning....well 2 hourly seems to be DS new routine. Still he fast asleep now and I'm up with DD! DH fast asleep as he was out last night. He did attempt to be quiet when he got home but it still sounded like a herd of elephants was passing through at 1am. Will let him sleep for now as I have a 'jobs' list for him today

Tilly sorry to hear you couldn't get back to sleep, but am loving your positivity.

sybil I have everything crossed for you today.

pmk1 · 25/04/2009 07:40

Veggie Thanks for the tip - will get some. Let me know if I can get anything for you too. We are off next Friday!
Trace love the dream story!
SL your dh sounds hilarious! Although all those MN stories to your friends could get old! My dh over uses cheerfulness now too!
tilly yes - he was very sorry for being so... hmmm whats the word? Anyway, said v sorry and then I said I want a monitor so stopped at mothercare on the way home yesterday as I had one held there. Now ds doesn't get put on the bed unless we're in it too!
Was it you spot? Not sure what to do about continued swaddling or not... He woke up again a couple of times just for dummy last night, but I'm wondering if it's the start of teething or something? Jusst in time for our trip - nice

sybilfaulty · 25/04/2009 07:52

Am happy to report that we got into our first choice school, so all three of them now sorted for the next 6 years! Thanks so much for all the good wishes. I logged on at 3am to see if results were up but as predicted not til 7am.

Back later.

waitinggirl · 25/04/2009 08:21

yay, hurrah for sybil and her children!!!

sl - loving the thought of a strategic kick for dh

pmk - how scary - poor you. i reckon it's one of those happens once and never again things, a bit like me locking myself out of the house - crossed fingers

since about 6 weeks madam has been a wake up once child - sleep 8 - around 3ish, give or take an hour, then up 7-8ish (lucky, i know). over the past few weeks she has started waking earlier and earlier, which means she then wakes a second time (12 and 4ish). i think other people are having this - she is 4 months today (SL and Bisou - also congrats on 4 months today - spot the christmas day babies). i try to go to sleep at 10.30ish, and the 4am feed is fine, but the earlier one is killing me - waking up so soon after going to sleep makes me the grumpiest, nastiest person in the world. i know one solution is to go to bed earlier - just not sure i would get to sleep. kind of tempted not to go to sleep until midnight. what do you guys do?

tillyfernackerpants · 25/04/2009 08:21

sybil, that is good news! We have to wait until the end of May but as its for nursery school its not really as important!

Veggiemummy · 25/04/2009 09:30

Hooray for the mini sybils! That's wonderful news what a weight off your mind.

Happy ANZAC day PMK I assume you've been to a dawn service this morning and good idea on the monitor I couldn't live without ours. Very good for back home too, as people back there have such huge houses.

Goodluck to your DH tomorrow for the marathon. I did it back in 2003 and loved it but (as you know) the training takes up so much time I don't know of I will do another one for a while. Just alittle advice for him which he may already know but to make sure he doesn't get a huge sugar high and a then low, make sure he gets the lucozade energy drinks at each drinks station that offers them but just sip the drink for the next mile then throw it away. It is tempting to drink the whole thing but his body will get a huge rush of sugar which will be followed by a big low because his body will send out a load of insulin to use it all up too quickly. By having a little over the mile then topping up again the same way at the next stop he will keep a consistent level of energy. My DH got told all this as well but at the first energy drink station he was feeling hungry so he skulled the whole thing and had a big low got hungry again and do did the same thing at the next energy drink stand and repeated that high and low until the end of the race. He ended up only doing the marathon only a minute faster than me when he could had done it much faster. Anyway that is probably completely all mixed up and diff to understand but am bit sleepy and DS1 is grumbling.

PMK thanks for the offer but the only thing I ever want is eucalyptus oil and golden gaytimes. My mum bought over about 10 litres of eucalyptus oil last visit and of course the golden gaytime would melt before it got here.

tillyfernackerpants · 25/04/2009 09:50

Veggie, thanks for the tips, I'll pass them on to him! I think he's excited now & glad that its not going to be too hot.

Veggiemummy · 25/04/2009 10:00

oh and get him to write his name on his shirt it does help when your running along feeling a bit tired and someone calls out your name and gives you encouragement. It's also nice for the people in the crowd. Oh and to help you ask him to wear something distinctive like a hat or shirt that is a bright colour as it is quite hard to pick people out and can give you a headache.

pmk1 · 25/04/2009 10:02

veggie golden gaytimes YUM!! Happy Anzac day to you to!! (you reminded me ) then I had to look up the history of the biscuit just now for dh as he needed to know exactly - (I had to Wikipedia as i'd forgotton !)
yeah we are going to take the monitor on our trip as it vibrates too and brothers house is large!

pmk1 · 25/04/2009 10:08

Happy Anniversary Sybil ours will be on our trip!

tillyfernackerpants · 25/04/2009 10:09

veggie he went to the Excel centre the other night for the pasta party so got his name printed on his shirt then. He also managed to get me some running shoes there, so no backing out for me now

As a pom, am I allowed to wish the Aussies Happy Anzac day?

Veggiemummy · 25/04/2009 10:18

Thank you Tilly.

PMK isn't it all the ingredients they had because of war rations or something? Have you been to Gallipoli? I made ANZAC biscuits last year for DS1 to take to nursery, I should really do it this year too. I might make them during the Arsenal match tomorrow. I quite like cooking while the football is on I get all nervous when watching sometimes and need to occupy myself.

We are going to the snowdome in Tamworth today just waiting for the big boys to get back from DS1s football training. I love when he goes to training, he comes back all excited about reporting to me how many goals he's scored.

Veggiemummy · 25/04/2009 10:20

Oh and Tilly it's actually spelt POME. Prisoner of mother England. It's what the convicts had on their shirts or something.

tillyfernackerpants · 25/04/2009 10:23

Sorry veggie, really interesting to know the origin of the word though!

Have fun at the snowdome, don't know what we're doing today. Waiting for my mum & dad to get here & then we'll head off somewhere, was hoping for Kew Gardens but weather's a bit iffy.

Pmk, where are you off to for your holiday?
