you'd think after 33 threads we'd have all the answers by now.

Miamla - I think it's nap time.

Miamla · 22/04/2009 08:45

oh oops, i hope you're dad's ok. he's in the best hands at the hospital. how far away is the hospital from you? would it be feasible to go for a quick visit? your mum could wait outside with DD

naptime for me or DS? because DS doesn't seem even slightly tired!

oopsacoconut · 22/04/2009 08:58

Nap time for you !! Twll Ds to get on with the cleaning.

We are 3 hours from the hospital so it is a long way for a quick visit and to tie it in with visiting hours they are between 2-3 and 6-8 just too many things to try and get co-ordinated. Will phone and speak to him once docs have been. I feel awful but mum said he would rather DD wasn't subjected to 6 hours in a car for me to see him for an hour, as it's not fair on her.

DD has just realised she can blow raspberries on my face - yuck!

Sibh · 22/04/2009 09:10

Oh that's awful, Oops
I hope you get to speak to him soon.

Lol at the raspberry blowing. DD2 was waving frantically at lambs when we went for a walk yesterday.

morning all

well, I went to work yesterday to attend a meeting and catch up on a few things. Was not too bad and I sort of remembered how I used to quite enjoy my job. I have serious concerns about fitting it all in when I go back though as the lady covering my position said the whole team including her worked til 8pm on average for 3 months to complete the budget , sometimes til 9pm. I intend leaving at 4.55pm every day . Was totally shattered by the end of the day though. My mum looked after ds and declared him to be 'a joy' and my norks were fine.

Feeding ds with a spoon seems to be having a positive effect on his sleep. Monday night he woke crying at 10.30pm so I bf him (teeth?) then he woke at 4.20am then back to sleep after a feed til we got up at 6.30am. Last night ds woke crying at 11pm. I bf him and applied calgel and he slept til 6.20am WOW and double WOW.

oops sorry to hear you did not enjoy sing and sign - the teacher is crucial in these things. I went to TinyTalk and it was very nice. Hope to make some more friends as met some lovely ladies there. Hope you have some good news about your dad later

no1 I am at your mum never looking after your dcs. Sounds like your dh and you need some quality time together just the 2 of you. Hope you manage to sort something out.

dizzy look forward to the pics of all this work!!

cc hope you manage to get your dh in for a check up. Nagged my dp to go to the drs for 2 years re feeling odd - he went and they found his blood pressure was off the scale at 180 over 110 so he was straight onto the tablets. It's best to get these things checked out.

lol at Joe and Emma's faceplants

poppy your girls are just gorgeous.

lwfh hope you blocked duct is now sorted

steak I really feel very reading your posts. I would feel very isolated in your position and the language barrier makes it so much more difficult. My sister lived in Paris for 4 years and is now near Lausanne - her experience of French drs is that they are not pro bf - one told her he recommends all his mothers to ff cos he's seen such terrible problems from bf . You mentioned your dh wants to try purees - not sure why a 7 month old needs purees - as Izzy is blw-ing she can probably handle any form of food. The last few days I have fed ds porridge with apricots and prunes chopped into it and lunch is quinoa cooked with lentils and sauteed veggies - I can be sure of getting quite a lot into him if I spoon it in and he likes to help guide the spoon into his mouth. For pudding he feeds himself fruit - so we're now doing a mixture or spoon feeding and blw. And I give him some bread/toast crusts to chew on as a snack sometimes. I do think it's contributed to the longer sleeps. I wanted to do full blw but if this way we all get some more sleep, then so be it. I agree with taking supplements - if only to keep the dr/dh quiet, and they'll do you no harm. My sister is similar in body shape to you - 5 ft 9 and around 8 stone and always has been - she says now she's back at work and her 7 mth old is ff at the creche, she has dropped 2 bfs and feels a lot less tired - I think it's because she has low reserves of fat that the bf was making her tired. Sorry, whittering on now!!

Ello VG.
Can I tempt you to attend to the West Cork Literary Festival in July? I'm sure we can find a spare bed for you in our humble abode.

Off to teach some Derek Mahon poems later today which is I think my favourite class of the year.

PF -how are things with you today?

Ooh hark at these urban types and their airs and graces
You're on for Cafe Paradiso btw ...

Sambo - bravo on the sleep! That is great.

Sibh · 22/04/2009 09:43

Ooh - who do you know. Peter Fallon from Gallery is there at some stage-an extraordinarily nice man. And Derek Mahon is there but only to read 'Disused Shed' which seems a bit odd - he was very kind to me when I was in Dublin for a year, but I can't shake the image of him always staring at the cereals in the supermarket on Baggot Street.

Got to go now. Have a lovely day.

sambo303 · 22/04/2009 09:56

was just about to praise ds for his wonderful 1.5 hour naps he's had these last 3 days but he's up again after 20 mins. grrr off to baby swimming now to tire him out.

cyteen · 22/04/2009 10:06

Hark at the literati on this thread!

Decent night here, Joe slept without a murmur until 4.15am - bf, nappy change, bf, then I wrestled him back to sleep in our bed so we all got up at 7am like normal people

sambo glad to hear things are looking up and that you enjoyed your work day. I'm off to a team meeting this lunchtime so am wearing my new skirt in an attempt to look vaguely professional - no doubt Joe will manage to leak milk on me before I get there, but never mind

oops lots of positive vibes for your dad. How frustrating for you not to be able to visit - I well know that feeling. But practically speaking he's got a point re. the journey/visit ratio. They will look after him there and I expect he'll be home before you know it

Miamla I hope you are asleep!

Sibh · 22/04/2009 10:08

Blush Blush Blush Grin

oopsacoconut · 22/04/2009 10:20

OOhh how arty the Irish contingent are this moring, I'm off for a cuppa and trashy mag whilst waiting for a leg wax.

Cyteen yay for good nights. We have an agreement thst DD stays in her own bed until 6am and she seems to knwe this and at 6 am most mornings she wimpers and groans, comes in snuffles her muzzy puts her head on my breast and sleepss soundly until i move.

Tom Paulin sits in the Bod library all day swearing under his breath apparently.

To restore the tone to normal levels, I've spent the last few minutes jumping up and down with DD1 shouting 'knickers!'

KNICKERS!!!!!!

Steaknife · 22/04/2009 10:45

KNICKERS!!!

Steaknife · 22/04/2009 10:52

Sambo thanks for the encouragement. DH has left CC again today, think it might buy me some supplements.

I'm trying to buy a baabaablind, but paypal times out on my connection. I can order it on amazon, but thought is nicer to order it off the company site as then they get all the money.

Re. BFing, turns out I'd got myself in a bit of twist about things. DH happy for me to continue BFing and the Drs comment about the number of times was more about me being in a routine rather than whipping the norks out willy-nilly. I do have a routine, kinda, but DH never sees it. Drives me batty when he tells me what I do and don't do when he isn't here.

Cyteen hurrah for good nights. I am still chuckling at "by the power of breastmilk". I'm holding my breast pump aloft, chanting and waiting to turn into one of those fantasy cartoon charachters with suspiciously large norks and tiny metal war bikini.

cyteen · 22/04/2009 11:14

Time elapsed between my last post and Joe vomiting into the lap of my new skirt: 1 hour

sambo303 · 22/04/2009 12:24

sorry cyteen but pmsl at that

steak lol at 'war bikini'

ds conked out in silver cross after swimming, have the sun shade up, such a gorgeous day here

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 22/04/2009 12:43

oops so sorry about your dad, hope you get good new soon.

Love by the power of breastmilk too.

miamla I bet you are shattered.

Hi sambo gorgeous here too, hope swimming went well, It is great for zonking them out. My mum doesn't 'do' children/babies. Never even had them for half hour in the day.
her loss not mine.
ts thanks for links.
vg that holiday really looks amazing, I would just love that (back to basics ish)
steaky
It is frustrating when they don't see what you do all day.
I like the fact that dh works shifts as when he is off he really sees the chaos delights of it all from morning till night.

Hi everyone else, can I just add a and a will leave it up to you all to decide what it means.

Alieight · 22/04/2009 12:47

Hi everyone,

Just popping in to say hello - sorry I haven't been around but my life has been a bit manic for the past couple of months. I've been back at work and surprise surprise, working as an auditor in busy season is, well, busy! Not really enjoying being back tbh, but there we go. Am back to college for exams for the next 6 weeks, so what little time I had to myself is going to be swallowed up with studying I suspect. Adam is being a little star though, sleeping from 9pm to 7am most nights (except when he was teething - going into work with no sleep apart from a couple of short naps was NOT fun), and seems to have settled in to nursery really well.

I really haven't had a chance to catch up I'm afraid, but just wanted to say to oops that I hope everything is ok with your dad. We had exactly the same thing with my dad a few years ago (although he was in Beirut at the time). It turned out to be oesophageal varices, which can be dangerous if they burst (as one did), but once diagnosed, he gets regular check-ups and every so often has to have a minor op to get them banded, and really is fine. I really hope everything goes well with him.

Right, need to head off and bimble around on the internet do some studying.
