Hello all,

steaknife - echoing the thoughts and prayers from here too. I find putting Tom to bed difficult here too - it's crazy - he is usually asleep at 7.45pm, and doesn't sleep brilliantly, but whenever I complain to anyone here, they without fail say that it's because I am putting him to bed too early.

Sorry, this probably isn't very helpful, just trying to say that I can maybe understand a bit how hard it is in a different culture.

And pf I was thinking of you this w/e. My DH has started a two year, two evening a week course on aviation law along with his normal 12+ hour days (admittedly he is hardly ever away overnight, so I can't really complain). Pah. Am being very supportive, but pah all the same.

Hi TS!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 20/04/2009 09:03

Morning all,Hope you all had good sleep.
My dcs rewarded me with a full night of it, yes thats 8 hours yeah. Feel great this morning.
I sneaked in to his room and did a dream feed at around 10.30 as I was too tired to express. They both woke at 6.50am.
He is a little grumpy today though.(prob still tired.)
Lovely sunshine here again, off out for long walk with silvercross I think.
hi longway

oopsacoconut · 20/04/2009 09:07

Morning All

Mucho better night last night - bed at 7.45 slept until 3.45 fed then awake at 6 - wriggled and giggled until 6.45 then fell asleep until 8.

TS - yes we are TTC but I don't post on any boards as I know we are heading for fertility treatment again and not holding out any hope that it will happen naturally - when we see the doc and get going with treatment then I might pop in. I also don't want to get obsessed with things yet! Croatia is amazing I once went there for work and the beaches are wonderful. Yes is has had a bad political past but seems on the up now.

Steaky - thinking of you today - hope you managed to get some things sorted.

Hi LWFH

LoveBuckets · 20/04/2009 09:34

Yeah Croatia's pretty stable these days, would love to go there and Montenegro too. You'd need to get a phrase book and learn a bit in advance, the language is flipping bizarre looking.

Better go, DH is off today, Kurt is asleep and I am being beckoned for a shag!

sambo303 · 20/04/2009 09:34

morning ladies
well done for sleeping babies/LOs

ds not so great last night but Saturday night he slept for ....8.5 hours solid!! From 8pm to 4.30am. Wow, the longest yet. I Think the reason was I decided to ditch BLW and fed him porridge for breakfast and couscous with lentil thing for lunch - he definitely had a lot more food than usual that way. Yesterday dp was in charge of feeding him and did BLW and ds was up and hungry twice in the wee small hours. Thankfully teething seems to have abated for the moment.

steak sorry to hear of what you are going through, so much of it is to do with lack of sleep I am sure. I do not have pnd although sometimes I did think I was going that way when I was getting up 5 times a night. Easter Monday I stormed off to the park at midday and left dp and a screaming ds (after yet another huge row with dp in which I hit dp on the arm which I have never done!!! ) and went to buy cola and a celebrity mag and sat in the sun for 3 hours and refused to go back despite getting texts from dp saying ds is screaming and I actually thought, you know what, I'm not sure I want to go back there to the constant work and tiredness etc and I fell out of love with ds then and did not really love him again til the Wednesday - was very weird and I'm over that now. I put it down to tiredness.

no1 enjoy your walk

I have just booked ds onto TinyTalk, first class today. Got to shower and wash greasy hair

alittlebitshy · 20/04/2009 11:09

sambo well done for telling us / steaky that. I've done similar things and never admitted them which is probably half my problem!

Interesting about the food thing - are you going to shovel it in today and see what happens?

Last night ds had a blw type dinner (we had pizza and garlic bread and last time, he gobbled the bits up i gave him, so i thought he could just have that last night). I worried that he might not have eaten enough compared to when i spoon feed him but he slept from 7.30 til 5.30 when he was stuck (he gets himself in such odd postions) so I rescued him and fed him for good measure. he slept til 8ish and didn't call to get up til 8.45. Bliss!! (back to school tomorrow so making most of last day of sleepability).

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 11:31

Wotcha ladies.

Hmmm strange things afoot here.
Last week I decided that I needed to get Izzy back on track with naps as I was always putting her in the buggy but this was getting less and less predictable.
So I thought, "I know, what can I do to make my life more difficult - hmmmm - lets try to get her to nap in her cot"
So i spent last week playing with her in her cot a little each day to get her used to it in the daytime.

I also decided to go back to trying for 3 naps rather than 2 as I have given in to DHs late bedtime. If it means he will help more without humphing around then it is worth it.

This morning she napped for 25 minutes in her cot - admittedly after a good hours nursing and soothing.

And now she has been asleep in her cot for the last 20 mins, after only 20 mins soothing.

I am of course very that this is just a strange blip.

Sambo funny you should say that about shovelling the food in. The PILs had Izzy yesterday and she took about 2-3 oz of ebm from a cup (I think) MIL said she ate loads at lunchtime - potatoe, green beans etc followed by fruit compote. Now as impressed as MIL is by the BLW I am sure she used a spoon.
Anyway Izzy seemed to sleep better last night - though not sure it is that what did it.

Where's the spoke to soon emoticon? I have a crying baby to see to...

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 12:04

Just quickly...

Sorry for poor spelling.

Not too broody, a little bit but it is more - ooh Izzy was so cute when she was brand new.

Sambo and PF thanks for sharing, it does help to know I am not the only one - well of course I knew that, but it is good to hear other peoples stories. If you get what I mean.

As for accents when we were in GC I would often have to translate regional English for DH as he couldn't get the accents. For a long time he confused S.Irish and Scottish, even S.Irish and American. I think the hardest ever for him was a Belfast lad who dived with us.
He would chatter on and there would be a blank look in DH's eyes - seriously nothing going on, he didn't understand a word.
I had to tell him word for word what the guy had said and it wasn't always easy for me. You kind of loose your ear for accents after being away for a while.

longwayfromhome · 20/04/2009 12:13

No, on Saturday DS ate loads and loads and sleep was still rubbish, so not always connected.

I think that I have a blocked duct as half of one boob is sore and engorged.

I have a pile of work and a very looming deadline.

longwayfromhome · 20/04/2009 12:17

Moan.

but at least DS is very cute indeed. He is in the "drop things from my high chair" stage. He picks something up, looks at it, holds it over the edge and then very deliberately lets go and watches it fall.

DH says the he is a fan of Newton

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 12:22

LWFH oops forgot to say "bonjour" to you earlier. DH calls the dropping game "go fetch" as in, go fetch daddy, go fetch mummy.

DH is always telling me bedtimes are cultural, which is true but it doesn't mean that French babies are sat up till midnight smoking gitanes and discussing philosophy while English ones are all tucked up with Paddington at 6.30.
Another strange thing that the French-in-laws told me was that Izzy was "doubling her gums" and yesterday that they get spots on their bottoms when they are teething.

Expectant · 20/04/2009 13:05

I think there are some very odd cultural beliefs. CM told me today that in Indonesia they put bells on their babies ankles from 7 months to 2 years

Steaky can only ditto what the others said and as a sufferer of pnd going to see someone and also going back to work have been the best things I've done - the ad's certainly help too. I still have bad days when I think I can't cope but the good days definitely outweigh them now. I threatened to take DS back to England on New Year's Eve and asked for a divorce too but all much better now - I'm even getting broody

TS yes have been to Phang Nga and it is beautiful. Think though that some of the beaches in Vietnam are possibly more beautiful so look out for those and also Boracay in the Philippines (sp)? Pretty spoilt in this neck of the woods too!

DS been on top form all weekend and squealing with excitement v.v.loudly - oh the joy for the other passengers on a 13 hour flight on Friday!

3 days to go.....

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 13:15

Thank you Expectant
Are you very excited about your trip? 13 hour flight aside.

What English things will you be stocking up on?
I have asked mum to put a tin of Golden Syrup and one of Black Treacle in the stuff she is shipping out to me.

Izzy been asleep for an hour now. [can't quite believe it emoticon]

TwilightSurfer · 20/04/2009 13:15

running through as i'm late again.

vietnam noted for googling later.
expectant YOU are extremely spoilt!! ladies our meet-ups need to be in expectant's direction!

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 14:41

Two and a half hour ladies, two and a half hours, not one, not two but two and a half hours of napping from Izzy.

She is now wearing eating pasta and sauce.

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 14:45

forgot to say in all the post-nap excitement that we have a family appointment with the doctor tonight.
Hopefully he won't try to pursuade me to stop BFing. I think I have DH on side on that one.

Sadly the print of Izzy eating spaghetti and meatballs is at PILs so not sure he won't think BLW some kind of English crazyness without it.

Not sure how it is going to go re PND but I'll try not to worry about it. The baby is so obviously happy and healthy that I can't be going too far wrong.

Miamla · 20/04/2009 14:46

good grief steaky! sounds like Izzy has had DS's quota of sleep today! he has had one nap of 10mins since 7.30 wake up this morning hey ho, he seems happy playing

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 14:51

She is the nap thief. Someone else round here has the night sleep thief though.

Blummin tiring isn't it. I wouldn't want you to think I have been all productive or owt though, other than uploading pics to flikr, mooching around FB and mning that is.

I've just realised she will be at the doctors with orange fingers from the tomato sauce and gunky hair from scratching her head with porridge this morning. I think a bath might be in order later.

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 14:53

I mean tiring when they don't nap.

Miamla · 20/04/2009 15:14

gah! fil popping round tonight, i really should make an effort in clearing the stuff in the hall from our trip. DS asleep in cot so i really have no excuses but see my thread for what's occupying my time at the moment!

Miamla · 20/04/2009 15:18

linky here

Steaknife · 20/04/2009 15:21

miamla-doolittle it is then, or are you more of a Bill Oddy?

Sounds like some hidying is in order chez miamla.

Tis pasta and sauce carnage here, glad I took her white trousers off before she started.

CaptainCaveman · 20/04/2009 15:54

steaky what fab news re napping! Wow

I suffered in my first pg with ante-natal depression, and when not pg I have had several episodes of bloody awful panic/anxiety. I take Clomipramine at the moment as you can take it whilst bfing (and its safer in pg than Citalopram which is my usual drug). Happy to say I feel great and have done now for some time. My 2nd pg was a very happy affair all round, as have been the days since Oliver was born. Hope you get on ok at the docs tonight.

Sad news, my dear friend has had a mc at 10weeks . She had one 18 months ago at 12 weeks . I feel so gutted for her but not sure it's appropriate to point her in the mc avengers direction? (She had 7yo twins btw)

Miamla · 20/04/2009 18:35

steaky you may call me Ms Doolittle!
i'm about to don my gardening gloves again, poor little mite is still under the bush at the end of the garden

hidying? what's the meaning of this word?

and on a complete tangent and not at all related to the above... its amazing how much stuff fits in a small cupboard under the stairs ;)

Miamla · 20/04/2009 18:36

CC that's such sad news about your friend
