Ooh Farrow and Ball vg you won't regret it. Our whole house bar two rooms are painted in it (expensive emoticon) - the colours are so lovely and change in different lights (and it is low VOC). I'm never going back to normal paint. Yes I am high maintenance

Missed dizzy's wallpaper - will have to find that later

Toby has gone to bed - hooray - so fingers crossed will be back to normal tomorrow re timings

Better go and make dinner

cyteen · 30/03/2009 19:11

For anyone giving finger foods at the moment, I had great success tonight with a sweetcorn fritter recipe culled from Big Cook Little Cook. Half a cup of sweetcorn, half a cup of grated cheese, an egg, 2 tbsp flour all beaten up together - I added a splash of sweet chilli sauce and some oregano - then drop spoonfuls of the mix onto a greased baking tray and into the oven for 10 minutes. They come out like omelette biscuits, if you can imagine such a thing. Joe loved them!

Not as much as tangerine though - had his first one of those tonight, he nearly bit my hand off Plus some cold rice pudding. Gannet!

LoveBuckets · 30/03/2009 19:43

Have made the most delicious dairy-free brownies, you'd never know, nicer than many dairyish ones in fact. Kids have had a bit each before bed but they're still warm and tempting me. Will have to set some aside for the kids tomorrow then me and DH can finish it all tonight.

Recipe if anyone wants it:
4oz marge
8oz sugar (mix of brown and caster)
2 eggs
2oz SR flour
1 1/2oz cocoa
1teasp vanilla
1oz chopped walnuts
2oz sultanas
1 tiny bag of dairy-free choc buttons
Cream marge & sugar, beat in eggs one at a time, stir in the rest. Dollop into a lined square pan and bake 20mins at 180. Should be just cracked on top and just hold its shape when you lift it out on the lining paper to cool on a rack. If it's springy and cakey you've overcooked it!

God I've had a lovely afternoon! Family walk by the river and play in the park was gorgeous, yummy (and healthy) stirfry for tea, attempted to give DD a singing lesson (not successful) and brownies...

LoveBuckets · 30/03/2009 19:50

I've always fancied making that recipe Cyteen!

simnel303 · 30/03/2009 20:42

those sound delicious cyteen, will give them a whirl. Ds loved the sweecorn fritters I made last week but they were fried and I'd prefer to not fry everything I give him (plus dp and I wolfed most of them as they were too morish ) Made ds broccoli and cheese muffins for tea with roasted veggies.
He liked them but wanted our linguini too and had lots of fun stretching the strands in wonder and puzzlement.

buckets your day sounds fabulous and those brownies sound delish

Just had some sad news - a dear friend of dp's just miscarried, her baby was 14 weeks . We were due to meet up for lunch over Easter... she says she is in a hole and cant talk

Ah bums, I just tried to have a discussion about the lack of night-time help but I ballsed it up completely and now things could be worse than ever.
I thought we were going on okay after my huge meltdown the other week but DH said that he thinks our relationship is buggered and doesn't want to try.

Sazzles very pretty bedding. I was thinking a turquoisey paint on one wall, those pink lack shelves from ikea as one long shelf along the facing wall, funky curtains and maybe dotty wall stickers. There is also a built in cupboard that is begging to have its doors decorated.

I also have a craving to get collagey and crafty with some of those pre-prepared canvases.

simnel303 · 30/03/2009 21:14

steak my sister got me lots of fab stickers for ds's room in Switzerland, they were of French origin. Very cute.

sazzles I tried ds with some pasta and he swept the whole lot onto the floor. It did have a bland tomato sauce on, will have to try a veggie version of spag bol on him (dp wants ds to be veggie like him )

Steaknife · 30/03/2009 21:15

Sorry to post and snooze, but it is past my bedtime and lil one may or may not wake at any moment.

Hope all yours are sleepy little folk tonight.

simnel303 · 30/03/2009 21:16

goodness steak hope mansteak just being stubborn!

oopsacoconut · 30/03/2009 21:16

Simnel - sorry to hear about your DP's friend.

Sazzles - cake who has cake????? Hope the girls sleep for you tonight.

DD is poorly again/still at about 4 pm she went very hot and floppy and when I stripped her off she had a wierd rash all over her body. My sensible experienced head told me it was just a post viral rash but the PFB mummy part panicked and DH came home and took us to the doc by which time the calpol had kicked in and she was slightly better but still had a temp of 38.5. he checked her over and she has no visable signs of infection. He gave her a bit of water in a syringe to see how she was swallowing and she choked on it and when she opened her mouth he managed to look in and she has a very inflamed sore throat. So we are doing the calpol ibuprofen roatation and she is finally in bed.

We also had our 7 month weigh-in with the HV today and she has only put on 4oz in 4 weeks so I got a lecture on increasing her calories so at 7months she is yet to double her birth weight. I came out feeling really cr*p!

Thanks all for recipes will try them once DD is better (except the brownies which I will try tomorrow)

oopsacoconut · 30/03/2009 21:20

x-post steaky - sorry mansteak is being stroppy maybe things will change once you move in to your place away from the IL's and he has to face up to being a daddy without his mum to help.

*buckets your day sounded lovely, and the recipe too.

steaky
hope you are ok, and i hope he was just spouting off.

oops poop dd. I hope she is feeling comfortable now.
Been trying to type for ages.ds awake due to snot and cough.dh up in a bit to go to work.So waiting to take him back to bed.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 30/03/2009 21:43

OFF to hot mamas to report my acheivements tonight

LoveBuckets · 30/03/2009 21:45

Aw Steaky, are you livid yet? Ooh I'd be working out a speech about him not being a spoilt brat and giving up during the hard bits, how you should be pulling together and he should be careful what he wishes for. Sazzles' theory might be right, perhaps he has gone into teenage boy mode or maybe there is even a quiet drip drip of unhelpfulness in his ear from a grandparent (or two). From your prev posts, he does sound like his kicking off could be a distraction technique when he feels he's about to be criticised, leaving you too gobsmacked or tiptoeing to continue your own point. Do ignore me though, I'm just playing armchair psychologist and forgetting you guys are real people, not soap characters. In any case, bed is a good idea for you now, hope you get a better night's sleep.

LoveBuckets · 30/03/2009 21:48

OK, 4/10 brownie to the kids, 2/10 to DH, that means I have eaten 4/10 myself, that's 2/5. Doesn't look so bad on paper actually but that's about a 7"x2" slab irl.

LoveBuckets · 30/03/2009 21:49

Doh, 7"x3"

Evening all . The level of chat has definitely picked up since Sazzles came back on line

Simnel your poor friend . I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks and it's really shit. Hope she's got some good support, does she have any DC already? I think that was what got me through mine, that I already had this amazing fabulous little girl.

Sazzles mmm cake Hope your girls do the decent thing and sleep well tonight. Obviously that goes for all August (and late July/early September) babies, are you listening no because you should all be asleep by now!

Oops I hope DD feels better very soon. Hopefully all the drugs will zonk her out and you can all get a good night's sleep [wishful thinking emoticon]. At least you haven't had to administer a suppository

oopsacoconut · 30/03/2009 22:05

Sazzles - {{HUGS}} she must be going down thinking it's a nap not bedtime. Hopefully it's just jetlag and clock changes and will soon resolve itself.

pertelote · 30/03/2009 22:06

Evening all, oh dear seems like a bad day for many... on your behalf.

VG sympathies to you and your family, so glad you got to see your aunt.

Steaky as well as , hope that chap of yours realises what he has to lose sooner rather than later.

Oops hope DD makes a fast recovery, and your poor snotty lad No1... Sambo sympathy to your friend too - excellent idea to get her onto MN, I had no idea how valuable it would become for us and what genuine friendship and support we would find.

Sibh sounds like mixed news from the Dr, at least you shouldn't have to wait as long as you first feared. Hope next lot of news is entirely positive.

Hope I haven't missed too many - I do know I am not nearly so good at supporting you guys in your rough patches as you have been for me... [guilty emoticon]. Believe me, the sympathy is there even when I don't express it well (or manage to post at all).

hotcrosspotter · 30/03/2009 22:07

Eek sorry for the ridiculously long post
