Eggs - I do hang out a bit on some of the French threads, but I've not found any Alpine MNers so far.

There is someone I know from blogging living in town - Canadian with French DH - we are supposed to be meeting up but I haven't heard from her yet.

Miamla woohoo how exciting, meeting up will be lovely.

Do I remember correctly that it is something to do with DH and aeroplanes. Falling out of them or something. They do lots of glidering (possibly not a real word) here it is amazing to watch all the gliders in the thermals. V cool.

CaptainCaveman · 09/04/2009 16:59

Ladies would you like to place your bets as to how far we'll get tonight with refusing to feed Oliver when he wakes up???

It'll be such fun, I can hardly wait for bedtime to roll around . But, if it gets us all a full nights sleep as a result of teaching him there's no point to waking at night anymore, then I'll be happy!!

Miamla · 09/04/2009 17:40

hi cc, crikey, if you get to sleep all night after refusing i will definitely be following your lead! is your DH helping?

steak yup! he falls out of planes Hmm, not sure its glidering, think you mean gliding! He was quite surprised when I asked him if we could come with him on his next trip to Gap. what else is there to do nearby apart from sitting on a dropzone? Are you close enough to see the canopies? I love watching them opening, its like a quiet firework display!

If anyone needs a laugh then do check out the penguin thread

You will need a bit of time to get through it all though.

Steaknife · 09/04/2009 20:23

Sazzles how I miss Pimms o'clock.
DH has improved this last week, but I think that is mostly due to getting more sleep.
He has had his moments though. I am sticking to my 6pm bath and she is usually feeding by 6.15 and asleep by 6.45 to 7.

She doesn't sleep through completely but usually only wakes once and that can be at anytime.

This is a huge improvement. Isn't it odd that doing things half an hour earlier can have such a big effect.

DH and I are trying to talk more about the pressures of life. We both tend to bottle things up but we have had some good, if not comfortable chats. He came home yesterday and had a good moan about his work, got lots of attention and a cold beer and got over it in half an hour, it was much nicer than him moping around for the evening.

Miamla well apart from drinking coffee, eating pastries and going in the fahancy shops erm there is a museum. Here is your guide to Gap

TwilightSurfer · 09/04/2009 22:29

Hi. Slightly paint buzzed here and tired. Both girls are napping. It's the only quiet I've had all day. Kitchen now sports a blue primer base which is has me feeling the love. The topcoat, a tomorrow event, shall be lovely.

I stopped at the jewelers today to see about getting my fire opal set in a ring of my creation. Since gold is at an all time high seems I can bring my old pieces in and trade them for the work. So my NEW ring might be FREE. That said, I have my mother's emerald ring and it might just be getting a facelift too.

I had an odd thought this morning driving like mad to get dd1 to preschool, late. DH can officially still make babies. I wonder what he would say if I said this were the last chance he'd ever have to make another...since the gun's still loaded and all.

That thought passed like a race horse at the Kentucky Derby after I attended DD1's preschool easter party with Reese in tow. What AM I CRAZY!!

Sazzles I've no idea what Pimms is but anything mixed with lemonaid sounds lovely.

Steak, Buckets, Miamla, Expectant, Cyteen, Oops, Sambo, Captain...we should all join Sazzles. A girl should never drink alone.

TwilightSurfer · 10/04/2009 04:15

Well so much for finishing the painting tomorrow. Done. It is tomorrow for you so I guess I'm half way correct. ANYWAY! New pictures in my profile. Things are still not done like the baseboard reinstallation and there's a trim piece that goes on top of the cabinets I have to find. I will also be painting the wall as you exit the kitchen with black chalk board paint....if I can find it tomorrow. Down the road the fridge will be replaced with a stainless steel version and finally my lovely broken cabinet doors & drawers will be replaced with new working ones. Please ignore the dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea about me. I am not an over-achiever and the farthest from a clean freak. Proof Positive...see the sink.

alittlebitshy · 10/04/2009 07:58

ts lovelt lovely kitchen. that colour is gorgeous!

dd had a sleepover last night. Finally got them to slepe at half 9 (after they'd woken ds so threats used). They're watching tv now, so i need to cajole them to have brekker and get dressed as we need to be out the house at 9 fopr a good friday walk of witness....

Porridge and maple syrup cooling on the window sill for those who want it or cold apple crumble and cream.

TS - the blue looks fab in your kitchen. I have never thought of blue as a kitcheny colour but now I am digging out the paint card for ours.

VG sounds like a splendid day yesterday and "Hurrah" for sleeping babies, must be something going round because Izzy slept from 6.45pm till 6.30am with a tiny wake up at 7.15pm.

hotcrosspotter · 10/04/2009 10:05

Wow TS the kitchen looks fab, blue definitely a good choice . Is that a catflap in the kitchen wall? You Americans are so weird kooky , ours tend to be found in doors.

VG and Steaky fantastic news on your sleeping babies . DS managed from 7.45 to 2am then till 6 so we are making progress here too Comes after a couple of bad nights, stealth poo leading to nappy rash and poor crying DS [bbluh] but the metanium has sorted him out, phew.

Glad you had a lovely time with Dizzy

Have been trying to choose a new mobile phone - mine is dying after being left in the rain / dropped on concrete, but there are too many to choose from, even with my paltry budget, grrr.

So if Steaky and Miamla meet up in Gap , and Expectant gets a meet up when she comes, who is left who hasn't met at least one other August MNer? Do we need to do a mercy-meetup?

Sazzles get thee to that penguin place this afternoon

Sibh · 10/04/2009 10:47

Just hopping on and hopping off again as things are hectic here.

It turns out I have migraines, with all the extra dizziness and tingling caused by iron and folic acid deficiencies. Hallelujah! V. dashing French neurologist eased the pain of the whole thing too.

Thanks so much to everyone for being so kind over the last few weeks. Your support means a lot.

I'll try to catch up tonight- I'm dying to find out how the meet-up went yesterday.

Steaknife · 10/04/2009 10:53

Sibh glad it isn't anything worse than migraines though I know they can be a be pretty awful and that the rest is fixable.

Excellent use of the word dashing.

Who was asking about our LOs favourite things - Izzy's is leads and wires.

Sazzles I second HP on the penguin front.

alittlebitshy · 10/04/2009 11:24

sibh what a relief.

Am I am meany? dd had friend to sleep last night, as i said. At brekkie she declared she didn't like hot cross buns (raisins); our toast was brown not white so not ok; cereals were not what she has (we had weetabix, oatibix or shreddies). She went for dry shreddies in the end but i refused to let her have sugar on them. She said "everyone knows you have to have sugar on cereal". i said not in this house. Was that a mean thing to do? I figure I can't let a child guest do soemthing i won't let dd do, else it's not fair.....

Steaknife · 10/04/2009 12:02

ALBS it sounds like you were being fair, but I doubt she will see it that way.

Izzy very grumpy and clingy today, I can see her two teeth just under the skin, poor wee thing. Actually I think one just came through as she was gumming my finger. I had a vision of a tooth popping up like those old fashioned till numbers.

Hopefully an afternoon with the French-in-laws will cheer her up.

Steaknife · 10/04/2009 12:05

Also what happened to eating what you are given when you are a guest?
Mum drilled it into us that it was impolite not to eat what was presented to you.
Mind you mum was very much brown bread and fruit for a snack so whenever we went anywhere else we hovered up the alphabet spaghetti or whatever it was.

cyteen · 10/04/2009 12:14

Not mean at all albs, she needs to learn the art of being a good guest which is that you go by the rules of the house. Think it would be different if she actually couldn't eat certain things, but just not liking stuff isn't really a good enough reason to turn down every offered compromise.

Miamla thanks for your encouragement last night, the beef turned out lurvely [slurp] and handily left most of a bottle of red wine open and needing to be drunk

Amazed at all these babies letting people look in their mouths! I can't see a thing in Joe's mouth as he is the master of turning away/mouth clamped shut/tongue splurging out to cover the gums. Am having to go by feel; my fingers tell me that he and his teeth continue at stalemate.

alittlebitshy · 10/04/2009 13:23

Must do a stew/casserole a la maimla. mmm. sounds delish.

I think (hope) dd would eat what she was given. She wouldn't complain. I know she eats stuff at school that she's not kene on (cabbage for one) and is proud of herself for doing so.

HAve cleared up most of the carnage.

dd is at Good Friday Funday, ds is asleep. I'm drinking tea. mmmm

I can sometimes look at ds's teeth but he will often wail and squirm like i'm sticking pins in him....

oh another thing. dd isn't allowed to manhandle ds. I let her hold him if i'm standing there, but he's a heavy boy (23lb12) so she would struggle. I've told her once he walks and can be put down easily on his feet, rather than doing stiff legs and needing a karate chop (a la poppy) to get him down, there's no problem with her picking him up. her friend wandered into the kitchen carrying ds on her hip. I snatched him back so fast . She has an 18 month brother so carries him, but he is prob lighter than my ds...... ARGH! AM i a totally ptotective mummy? In some ways i treat ds like a pfb (i think it's the gap between them, I can devote the time unlike if dd was a toddler) but in others he does stuff I'd never have let dd do (ie eat hot cross buns aged 8 months lol)

TwilightSurfer · 10/04/2009 13:24

ALBS I was the picky child at sleepovers but I was polite (hopefully). I would never had told you, everybody knows sugar belongs on cereal. I might not have eaten though. Such is the dismal life of picky eater. Sorry your dc's guest made you feel bad. (((hugs))) You are the farthest from mean.

Sibh HOORAY!! I am so glad your condition ISN'T a condition just a set of issues that can be resolved easily. I was very scared for you.

VG I absolutely LOVE your son. We would be peas in a pod, I'm sure of it. It sounds like you and the Diz-fam had an excellent meetup.

Hotter LOL I am the kooky one. Cat doors are suppose to go in doors. However, I had this weird idea and made DH put it in the wall there leading to the laundry room where we keep the litter box. It's worked nicely for us. When DH does all the new trim he's going to fancy it up a bit.

Steaky, blue is a very common kitchen really. I totally recommend it.

Well the easter bunny stopped by last night. I figured Good Friday was a better delivery option since we'd be stranded at home all weekend with plenty of time to play with his gifts. Smart! We've got so much running around on Easter Sunday that the girls wouldn't have time to enjoy their gift then anyway.

I hope enjoy today.

alittlebitshy · 10/04/2009 13:50

what was the gift from the easter bunny ts?

TwilightSurfer · 10/04/2009 14:03

One PINK outdoor swing for Reese.
One PINK bubble blowing lawn mower for Kinsley.
One Barbie Thumbelina movie for them both.

TwilightSurfer · 10/04/2009 14:03

NO CANDY!

alittlebitshy · 10/04/2009 14:11

my dd is desperate for the barbie Thumbelina dvd....
