Salt is just so hard to avoid though...stuff like oatcakes and cream cheese, constantly touted as BLW-friendly food, is full of salt I don't add it to home-cooked stuff anymore so am hoping that makes up for it.

I must say, since leaving out the salt I really notice mega-salty foods I ate a rollmop the other day and although it was delicious it fair burned my mouth with the saline.

alittlebitshy · 07/04/2009 11:08

carcrass? i mean carcass.....

cyteen · 07/04/2009 11:16

Completely off topic but I found out someone I know died of a heart attack at the weekend He was such a lovely bloke and only in his 30s. Quite a sobering thought really.

hotcrosspotter · 07/04/2009 11:37

Cyteen that's awful . Puts being 40 into perspective really

simnel303 · 07/04/2009 13:27

hi all - having a productive day at home today, have cleared up loads of rubbish and made piles of stuff for charity shop/tip/freecycle.

Ds is having orange for the first time today. Seems to like it. Kiwi fruit went down a storm too - he had 2 for brekker

cyteen that is sobering, my dp's dad died when he was 36, it's so young

re salt i have not been overly careful - I dont add it to ds's food but he does have cheese and other stuff with salt added.

ann very sorry to hear of the loss of your photos, I'm sure it is devestating - hope others have some they can send back to you

LWFH How was your lasagne?

VG How was the show? Any baby news yet?

Anyone else formula feeding 100% Am wondering too what VG said about food/milk ratio. Formula tin says he should be down to 20oz-ish by 12m - he's on 32oz plus 3 meals a day now at 8m! Perhaps I should start to shrink his lunch and tea bottles? Lord, I can't remember for the life of me how it went with the other two!

I use Marigold reduced salt vegan stock granules in cooking so Kurt gets some of that but I think if we're supposed to be feeding them family food we don't need to worry too much. I also have a jug of chicken stock in the fridge at the mo from a whole chicken I hacked up. Might start doing this weekly as it's quite useful for mixing with baby ricea and purees and also the instant baby food poweders. Deffo lasts a week in the fridge.

We had a couple of nice hours on the Watercress Line Thomas day, nice to have the freedom of free tickets so we could leave while we everyone was in a good mood. Stupidly forgot my sling and put the pushchair in the buggy park though so Kurt fell asleep instantly on the way home.

Have just got DD booked in for weekly swimming lessons next term - am finally entering Dizzy's world of alphamum extra-curricular activity. Fingers crossed DH gets to keep his condensed hours though or it will be a nightmare with the DSs tagging along.

cyteen · 07/04/2009 16:32

Buckets I'm not ff but Joe is still well into the milk as well as eating 3 meals a day. Basically, he's a gannet I seem to remember Kurt being a big lad so not surprising he has a large appetite.

God knows what Joe does with all those calories though, he's not exactly burning them off through motor activity. He just seems to get ever more dense, like some kind of weird black hole baby. (((my aching arms)))

GP says he's got a bit of a red right ear so I've got anti-bs to add to his daily intake. This afternoon he's given himself sticky eye as well, although I did initially think it was just pesto from his lunch but no, eye gunk it is so we've got eye drops too. Think I'll try cleaning with cool boiled water first, that did the trick last time.

alittlebitshy · 07/04/2009 17:08

H is on 3 meals plus 6-8 bfs a day (and one ff at bedtime) so A LOT of milk. Little gannet here too was worried that he was still having so much milk but realised after browsing some threads on the bf section that it's only good and it keeps my supply up and it's not always sustainable at this stage to be only on maybe 2 feeds, (can't quite understand why but the experts on there seem to reckopn that over a year it's ok but at the mo it would be most likely the start of the end of bf, so it's only a positive sign! lol.

PetitFilou1 · 07/04/2009 19:27

albs Blimey how do you fit it all in! I have one like vg. If I offer bf to Toby he will take it but he doesn't ask generally. He is far too interested in what the world around him has to offer especially when ds1 and dd are about. We are averaging three - four feeds over 24 hours I'd say (although last night he woke up 3 times for some reason but that is unusual) I have guessimated that Toby now weighs 22.4 pounds which seems alright to me (by weighing myself and then weighing myself holding him!)

ts I'm estimating the sleep link was around 3 months postnatal?? But don't worry if you can't find it. My cousin has a three month old who is up for 2.5 hours in the night and I think she keeps trying to put her back down to sleep when she is still awake. I was trying to find that link which shows how long it takes a young baby to get back into really deep sleep.

Still only two teeth here.....congrats on Reese's coming through!

cyteen dh saved his friend's life at 28 - he needed a heart transplant (dh didn't DO the transplant but he was the one who realised he was really really ill on dh's own stag do and got him an emergency scan). Also someone I went to Uni with died of a heart attack at 29 - yes it is sobering.

sazzles Weather forecast looks better - are you still ok for tomorrow?

Catching up slowly. Only to 9am posts but didn't want to forget my thoughts....

Longway, yes I am brushing Reese's teeth now. She has her own tooth brush. Her new teeth also get wiped a bit when I massage her gums where the new teeth are coming in.

As for the salt consideration, no I am paying it no mind. I'll go back to my statement regarding 3rd world countries...you don't see mother's there changing up their meals for the sake of their newborns. I'm quite sure my greatgrandmother didn't fix things differently for any of her twelve nor did my grandmother for her six. Reese will get what she gets and be happy and healthy!!

Oops thanks for cheering Reese on. Those teeth were a BEAR!! Hopefully she'll start sleeping better again.

On the feeding front I've gone to great lengths the past two days to replace bottles with solids. Reese doesn't seem to mind at all. I even purchased her a highchair seat (it fits into a regular seat and can be carried anywhere) today which she is in right now, covered in food, and tossing her toys to the floor for fun.

TwilightSurfer · 07/04/2009 22:17

Buckets I FF 100%. I think Reese has been taking 6 bottles a day, anywhere between 4oz and 8oz a feed...mostly 6oz on average. I've been ignoring standard guidelines with her all together so I've NO IDEA what she's "suppose to be" taking in. I let her tell me what she needs. Just this week I've deleted one bottle feed with a solid foods feed. Otherwise I've just been giving her a bit of solids then a bottle. Today I've done two solid feeds in place of bottle feedings. I'm also giving her bits of whatever I'm eating if it's at a different time. So today she's had a bagel and a cookie. For the record the cookie was to keep her busy while I got her new highchair ready so I could feed her just a moment ago.

I hope all the above nonsense makes sense since dd1 was trying to tell me something throughout the entire typing session.

TwilightSurfer · 07/04/2009 22:17

PF I am off in search of that link!!
