sazzles Hmmm not looking good is it - dammit. Need a 'IamreallynotfancyingsoftplayintheEasterholidays emoticon' Any ideas for a back up? Not sure I can think of anything obvious (except going out in the rain anyway...) Maybe we need to check on the weather again tomorrow (hoping for the best)

TS I need you - I need that sleep link you posted really early on, for my cousin. Can you help? If that rings any bells????

buckets Not saying that motherhood isn't mentally challenging - but there are bits of me that do lay dormant while I am on mat leave. It's like if someone asks me about work part of my brain lights up and I start babbling away. I was(still am) quite passionate about my work and enjoyed doing it. I'm just (personally) not great at the creative play stuff. I love taking the dcs outdoors/playing football with ds1/doing nature walks etc but not great at the indoor stuff AT ALL (except baking)....

PetitFilou1 · 06/04/2009 21:50

TS It was about babies sleep patterns (if that helps)

poppysocks · 06/04/2009 21:52

So sorry all.... just one more post from me about work .

Actually sazzles, you've inadvertantly helped me get clear in my head how I feel about the actual decision of when to go back. You're right, I'm not convinced about the June return, but I'm not convinced about delaying it either. As the delay would be costly, difficult for work, not good with DH and yet I don't think would be significant a benefit for the DDs I think June is the better option. Thank you!

Seems that there are lots of babies who are getting less keen on their milk. DD better than last week so who knows what caused that. If only we could know these things...

poppysocks · 06/04/2009 21:55

Yes, I too struggle with the indoor stuff, apart from baking pf. Going to the swings/slides though is I find truly mind-numbing.

Can I just say, before I turn in, that I think nursing strikes at around 8 or 9 months are very common - so maybe they are just gearing up!. Not sure why but I know they happen and then babies start taking the milk again. Prob to do with teething I suspect though (but that is just a pf theory)

sazzles will do

LoveBuckets · 06/04/2009 22:19

Yeah I guess as I was never really ambitious or truly in love with a job it's easy for me to say that. And I'm lucky (?) that DS1's special needs have been a real education too, I mean learning about the condition, observing it, now comparing observations with Kurt and just learning the SN 'system' locally and UKwide. Sometimes inspiration comes along when/where you least expect it, have already pencilled in some kind of career in that sector for future reference.

But oh God I can't stand playing with my kids! They get in the way of me and my own brain stimulation. But it is quite stimulating coming up with new fobbing off excuses and barefaced lies for them LOL.

WE HAVE MORE TEETH!!!
I just broke one more of Reese's through the skin. She cried hard then smiled and is now out cold. GOODNESS this teeth thing is rough on her (and me). She has a second one needing to be helped along through but I'll help her with that later tonight. Poor dear.

For the record, I've just been massaging her gums with a moist cloth every day for a few minutes. Each day I could feel it getting closer and closer and today POP. Didn't want anyone to think I was being brutal with her mouth.

PF....how long ago are we talking? I save all my links so I can probably find it but a time reference REALLY helps.

longwayfromhome · 07/04/2009 00:42

Sazzles - about your DD2 being up all night just wanting to sit - the No Cry Sleep Solution (I must be obsessed as I keep on quoting it) says that when a baby goes through a developmental stage and learns a new skill they need to wake in the night to practice it. This goes away when the new skill is mastered. Might that be it, as she has just learned to sit? Hope that tonight is better.

returning to work - I am busy, but I do enjoy working and thinking a bit.

Going to the park/swings/out for a walk is my favourite bit of being a mum - and the in the house bits my least favourite, as I was never really very domestic before anyway. But we do have a cleaner who came today and so the house is now nice and clean. Hurrah

TS and Reese - congrats on the teeth - are you doing anything to brush them yet?

ALBS - food - not really sure what is the right amount - but I think that DS usually will eat more than a couple of tablespoons of veg puree/maybe have a cracker or a piece of toast with it and sometimes have some pureed fruit or yoghurt.

Lasagne in the oven. It looked a bit dry so I slung some wine on top. Am now not entirely sure that this was a good strategy.

Anyone - how strict are you with the no salt thing? eg food with stock cubes in etc.

longwayfromhome · 07/04/2009 00:45

Sleep much as ever here with 2-3 wake ups. I think that we will go for bringing DS in to bed with us after the 4-5am wake up as he settles much more quickly that way.

longwayfromhome · 07/04/2009 00:48

Oh and has anyone noticed that if you see a baby who you have not seen for a long while, then at first glance it is often shocking how much they look like their parents, but after that first glance you can't see it again?

longwayfromhome · 07/04/2009 00:55

Ooooh, and what would you do about a four hour car drive or train ride with your DCs? I would think that the car is easier for carrying stuff, but the train much easier for not having a crying baby so would tend towards train.

longwayfromhome · 07/04/2009 00:57

No-one else around then? LWFH sets the teasmade for 6am and goes off to eat lasagne and watch the west wing.

oopsahotcrossbunny · 07/04/2009 07:43

Morning

Weather's looking good for you Sazzles and PF, no rain here yet and a big blue sky.

DD was awake at 11.30 like she had never been fed, then again at 1 with the same issue, then 5 hungry again I brought her in with us at 6.30 and we are now up and about for the day!

DD refuses to just sit anymore she will sit then arch her back trying to stand up.
erbhryhr5grtntgc

Brekkies this morning is..... french toast, bacon butties and OJ.

LWFH - with the no salt thing we have bought some low salt stock cubes but I have also made some of my own which I froze in ice cube trays a'la Nigella. With the trip I would lean towards the car as you can stop if needed to feed, change amuse etc. I could thonk of nothing worse than bweing on a train with a crying baby trying not to disturb ofthe passengers.

TS - yay for more Reese teeth

I had better go as DD is trying very hard to help trye this ans has very sharp claws!

hotcrosspotter · 07/04/2009 07:58

Morning all

Terrible night here, DS crying at 12.30 and I managed to get him back to sleep but he woke again at 2 and just dozed and whinged and cried until 5.30 whean I gave in and came downstairs, dosed him with calpol fed him and bunged him in his pram so at least I got to sleep on the sofa for an hour. Bloody cold though (that's me frozen, am too tired to be sad )

Sounds spookily like your Sunday night Sazzles, wonder if I am getting my period now? Has been lovely not to have one since October 07. Last time started again after 6 months so at least I've had two extra months off.

LWFH hope your lasagne survived the extra wine . I must confess that some things I give to DS do have salt in Xmas Blush. It's all very well saying put the salt in after but that doesn't really work for stuff with stock in does it? Or does anyone know where you an get salt-free beef stock cubes? My reasoning is that whatever meaty offering he gets is usually a small portion padded out with unsalted pasta, rice or potatoes so he really isn't getting very much salt at all from cooked food.

Cyteen You were asking about green poo and oranges; DS eats a mandarin almost every day but his poo is decidedly brown now [eww] with bits of sweetcorn, peas, carrot etc dotted around like jewels [eww]

hotcrosspotter · 07/04/2009 08:01

Sheesh that took ages to post...

Morning Oops your brekker sounds yummy

hotcrosspotter · 07/04/2009 08:18

Also quiteoften sometimes wish I had married a more alpha-y male than the one I got. I think it would be nice for him to have a bit of ambition and drive, but he is quite happy just to potter along. Still he is very good with the children and we don't have the stress associated with more successful DHs. Money vs easy life, hmmm?

hotcrosspotter · 07/04/2009 08:21

Always fancied doing one of these strings of posts , looks like I'm on my own today

Got an interview, hurrah! Next Tuesday in Leeds, so in 1 week and a few hours I won't have to worry about it any more

hotcrosspotter · 07/04/2009 08:27

Poppy you know that if you delay returning to work until Autumn so you an spend more time in the garden we will have another shit summer

hotcrosspotter · 07/04/2009 08:29

Keep forgetting the bunny ears

Off to get breakfast now, and as DD is likely to jump on the laptop as soon as my back is turned to play on the cbeebies website , I may be some time

Morning all. Today I promise I will not go on about work. Seriously though, thank you for tolerating me and my musings. It's great to have arrived a situation that I've properly considered and am happy with.

Of course really, hotpot, I'm only going back early to ensure a good summer for all those ladies of the Aug 08 thread who will still be off.

How exciting Auntie VG! You must keep us posted! Glad you had a good, though rushed, evening out. We're out tonight with old uni friends. Rather conveniently my flatmate married DH's flatmate. They have DCs the same ages as us so it's lovely spending time with old friends who understand that it's not you being rude when you speak whilst watching your child and fail to complete any conversation. However tonight the DCs stay at home and we, as long as we all manage to stay awake, get to be grown-ups together again.

VG - I wondered that about the solids/milk ratio too as I'm sure DD would also not really notice if I never offered milk. She's hungrier this week, but last week was a joke. Great that they're enjoying the solids so much, but there's always something to worry about it isn't there.

Hope you manage to get through today on that horrible night hotpot.

Good to hear that P's on the mend oops. Bit tiring for you though with all those feeds I imagine.

re: salt, I was a tyrant about it with DD and I made sure she had no added salt at all until she was two. This time I'm careful but not absolute. DD does have, eg. shepherd's pie with us. I do make it with a standard stock cube, but add no more salt. She also loves smoked mackrel.

Glad to hear the Dixie holiday is such a success. Say hi to her later VG!

hotcrosspotter · 07/04/2009 10:04

Hi VG glad you had a good time out, shame about Marco PW but that's something to look forward to. All DH and I have managed since before DS was born is burger and chips in a pub on Friday lunchtime. Was v yummy though . I do use those stock cubes too, but sometimes think you need a real meaty one, eg for bolognaise sauce or chilli. Maybe I should just buy better quality meat . I do actually use much less than I used to, and figure that he really doesn't eat that much finished food per cube added so salt is really minimal.

Glad Dizzy still having fun

Tis sunny here again . Better take advantage of nap time and get out in the garden for a bit. Later dudes

alittlebitshy · 07/04/2009 10:35

ooh must look for those stock cubes cos i've been leaving them out when cooking for us all... My veg soup last week was lovely but could have done with a stock cube

though dh made stock out of our chicken carcrass from sunday so we have a fair bit in the freezer now....
