mine too, how annoying is this!! they are going to sort it first thing though here. Wish I'd seen this before I spent ages tweaking my settings though!

After saying I was loath to stop co-sleeping last night, Caitlin fed all night, built up a load of wind and vomited all over my bed this morning. Seems fine, did the biggest burp you've ever heard when I picked her up; but this has to be the end of the all-night latchfest I think. Took a bath with her but we still smell of sick [blich] good job it's a home day today otherwise I'd have had to take a day off, although there appears to be nothing whatsoever wrong with her. Bleurgh.

AliandHerScallywag · 25/03/2009 09:28

AH P is certainly far more strong willed than me. I am currently listening to him cry as he refuses to go to sleep. 20 mins in...I hate this.

Systems - yuk that does not sound good.

Off to go and check on him...

AliandHerScallywag · 25/03/2009 09:35

Oohh...just gone quiet as my timer went off.

The problem now is that he will sleep for 25 mins before waking up still tired and miserable. If I leave him to cry again it hasn't yet worked. If I then BF him he goes back to sleep. Sponge when you did CC for naps it worked like a charm. Please tell me your secret?

I have just emailed my boss asking to go in and see her. I am full of trepidation as she is almost as canny as P is, and knows how to play every situation. I have been fairly convinced that I will resign in the end, but last night I was dreaming about work and I woke up missing the office chat etc.

HR Types I have just had my annual pay review and got a small but reasonable bonus but no pay rise. Do you think this is fair for someone on ML? For me "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush", but just wondered what anyone else thought of it.

DebInAustria · 25/03/2009 10:24

Morning everyone

Sorry to hear about the sleep issues Ali, Whinegums, SA

Essie - lol at fitted carpet

rolf - good luck with the christening

BF - I bfeed E on waking in the morning (this morning it was 5.30, I brought him into bed and then he did go back to sleep until 6.45), then breakfast, another bf at 9ish -he used to go to sleep after this but not anymore, I put him down for a nap -he always cries but not for long, next bf at 2ish, then another nap, next bf at bedtime.I'm hoping to do without that 5.30 bf but the boys are all back in together as we have guests again so we can't do the cc so well with 3 in the room.

Ali - Until this week E would fall asleep during a bf, in the day and at bedtime, but now he rarely does. How long did P sleep this morning? If he wakes afetr 25 minutes I would try and leave him crying for a few minutes, E sometimes does this, dh will say leave him a minute and then he goes back to sleep. Othrwise I'd just get him up, and try him with another nap later on,

Puree - hope the cough#s better

SA - sick in the bed sounds horrible, E used to do that as a tiny baby if he fed all night in bed.

DebInAustria · 25/03/2009 10:24

sorry Rolf - baptism

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/03/2009 10:30

Rolf didn't realsie you were a left footer too, I am also impressed by how many you are inviting, and sounds like you have it under control.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/03/2009 10:33

I keep menaing to ask Deb how your winter has been and what are you going to do if you can't sell. Are you still taking bookings?

DebInAustria · 25/03/2009 10:39

Five - thanks for asking Season has been OK, but not great, down about 2000 Euros on last year, summer bookings are dismal. We're still taking bookings as we don't know how long it will take to sell, either way it's best to get as many bookings as possible. No interest in the house so far Think we're going to put it on a few sites ourselves as the estate agents seem to be pretty rubbish.Haven't had one viewing.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 25/03/2009 12:28

Debs I'm really sorry your business isn't doing so well at the moment. Hopefully the pound will pick up and you will have more bookings and interest in your property too.

DP's compay made some redundancies yesterday, luckily DP is safe this time round but may not be if they have to do the same in a couple of months. DS slept really badly last night. This morning some clothes arrived for DS from ebay sellers and one of the shirts sticks of smoke (YUK YUK YUK), the descrption didn't say from a smoke free home but it didn't even cross my mind that it may smell of smoke. I will of course wash it but am having an irriated by everything day today!

Essie3 · 25/03/2009 13:23

Goingto that's horrible. (Actually, your DP's work - any uncertainty is awful - but the shirt!) I didn't even think about that until a couple of years ago I was buying embroidery threads and patchwork fabrics, and people were proudly stating 'smoke free home'. It really hadn't occurred to me, but now I only buy clothes and fabrics from smoke free homes. I think it's quite funny, though (and also good to a militant anti-smoker who, when asked 'mind if I smoke', would say 'NO!' ) because it's a sign of the times - you assume anybody with a baby won't be a smoker. I went to a baby clinic last week to do a nappy talk (total waste of time, btw) and there was someone there, with a baby, who stank of cigarettes. Weird.

Amberc · 25/03/2009 13:25

Rolf - Bumcream, had me in stitches! PS you can't go wrong with a bit of quiche for your catering!

Systems - isn't it funny how a bath and hairwash can't get rid of the smell of baby sick

going - yuck - agree minging

Took Luke to the docs this morning and there is nothing physically wrong with him. So I am going to give him until the end of the week before we go the whole hog and hire a sleep consultant. Saying that he slept 7-6 last night. I think it was because he was exhausted from all the crying the night before. We'll see how he gets on tonight. Not holding breath.

AliandHerScallywag · 25/03/2009 13:29

Going - that is a bit gross about the smokey clothes. I would be put off using them even though once washed they will be perfectly fine.

Deb that you are having problems getting viewers in. It's not a good time at the moment is it? Definitely best to keep the summer bookings going if you aim to sell the business as a going concern. (No doubt you know this)

Deb (again) on the sleep front he slept for 30 mins this morning. I left him for another 5 mins but he sounded awake. The ratio of 20 mins crying for 30 mins nap doesn't seem quite right somehow.

I am now trying to get him to go to sleep again...

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 25/03/2009 13:32

Amber That's great that Luke finally had a good nights sleep, hopefully it will carry on but understand about not getting your hopes up. Good to rule out anything physical.

Essie Quite fancied leavng the feedback

'Forget "brand new with tags" it was "brand new with stale fags" !!!!!'

AliandHerScallywag · 25/03/2009 13:56

So it took 10 mins to get to sleep this time. Which is better. He has now been asleep for 22 mins (and counting) and that has included a bloke ringing our very loud doorbell.

DebInAustria · 25/03/2009 19:14

10 minutes is much better Ali - how long did it last?

Rolf · 25/03/2009 19:20

Ali 10 mins sounds better. Hope it continues to improve. I've given up at the moment with Thea at night. She gets really upset and I am too knackered to have any sense of purpose about sleep-training either of my girls. She's still lovely during the day though . Very cheerful and becoming playful too.

Deb sorry your winter season hasn't been good. 5 how has yours been?

Amber quiche - good idea!

poppy34 · 25/03/2009 20:24

sorry trying desperately to catch up but you lot can talk...
debsorry that its not been a great winter -echo what ali said re

ali sorry things are slowly improving. Re work I think in current economic climate bonus qutie good - I'm expecting nothing on either pay rise or bonus front as happy to keep my job. what they can't do (and clearly haven't) is mark you down for being on ML.

puree I'm not surprised you're exhausted with all your all round helping hand antics -hope you feel better soon.

amber glad that last night better but think I'd go for consultant too if doc can't see anything wrong.

nanny starts tomorrow and am actually quite looking forward to it - think edie now at stage where she'd benefit from someone else to chat to/play with.

whinegums · 25/03/2009 20:36

Thanks for all the comments about sleep. Aberdeen, I don't give him a dream feed at 11ish - he wakes up then (well, any time between 10.30 and 11.30 and I feed him, otherwise he wakes again shortly after). Or am I misunderstanding - I thought a dream feed was when you fed them while they're asleep. Maybe I should try that - before he wakes up IYSWIM.

I dunno, should I just go down the path of least resistance - the options seem to be to feed him and put him back in his cot, or not feed him but bring him into bed. Or bring him into bed and feed him. Last night I tried leaving him in his cot and not feeding, and he was awake for pretty much most of the time between 2.30-4am, when I gave in and brought him into bed for a feed. After which he slept til about 7.30. I'm just worried about creating another problem down the line. Maybe I should work on stopping the night feeds first and then tackle the co-sleeping.

Essie, I've ordered the Teach Yourself Baby Sleep book, do you think it helped?

Rolf - bumcream, PMSL. As for the catering - five loaves and two fishes p'raps? If you can change the water into wine as well, do let me know.

Deb, has 'your' programme been on yet, or when is it on?

Ah, just waiting for The Apprentice to start. I remember when it started last year, and thinking by the time Suralan picked his apprentice, I would have a baby (or I would have done if the little monster had vacated on time).

Systems, baby sick does seem to have the ability to permeate doesn't it??

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/03/2009 20:50

Rolf really busy at the moment fingers crossed, we are turning people away at the moment so hoping we can get the coach house converted this winter, it is noticable that we are getting more europeans aswell.

deb have you just got your house on with Austrian Estate agents, if so have you thought about putting it on with Agents in this country who have an overseas dept. Also do you just advertise on your website or do you market through other websites?

spongebrainbigpants · 25/03/2009 20:54

Ali, daytime naps are still very hit and miss here - Sunday morning it was two and a half hours (that was because we wanted to go out for the day of course! ), Monday was 40 mins, yesterday was 30 mins and this morning was 1 1/2 hrs but I slept with him in our bed. I always have to leave him to cry for a few mins before he settles but he normally does have some sleep. Please let the next one be a sleeper!

Talking of which, my gorgeous little monkey has finally worked out how to stand in his cot and now insists on doing this when I put him to bed - what do I do?! He got himself into a right state tonight cos I had to leave him and then he got his foot stuck and twisted . I can't pin him to the bed so do I just leave him standing and hope he collapses with exhaustion eventually?

Deb, sorry to hear business is slow, and going, crap about dh's job. This recession is just hell isn't it?

whinegums, I remember having that exact conversation with dh, "by the time Suralan picks his apprentice we'll have a child"!

Can't wait for the new series to start (5 mins!) - they look like an even bigger bunch of numpties than ever!

Off to have a good laugh!

abdnhiker · 25/03/2009 20:54

whinegums yes, I was waking F up to feed him and it wasn't helping at all (and meant I couldn't drink as much - bad news all around). We went the path of least resistance and it seemed to be the one that got us the most sleep. Normally that meant feeding him but then putting him back to bed. But then F has turned a corner and is sleeping reasonably well now.

Exhausted and being short with DH so I should go to bed...

abdnhiker · 25/03/2009 20:56

sponge yes, just leave him! Fraser walked around the bed for ages tonight and then finally gave up and lay down to sleep. It sucks at first but eventually they realize that they aren't going to get anywhere and get bored.

and hugs To Deb and going and everyone else having a crap time with the recession!

spongebrainbigpants · 25/03/2009 21:00

Thanks AH, it was just awful when I realised that he'd got his leg stuck when I went back in. When I lay him back down in bed he gave me such an angry look (or was I imagining that?! ).

I might have to lurk outside his room so he doesn't hurt himself .

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/03/2009 21:02

Just wait until they start climbing out
