Hello All. Congrats on the doula birth Turtle (you are brave...I don't think I'd want to be reminded of how tough giving birth is if I was pg!)

Well we all made it back in one piece from our skiing trip last week. LO was fab on the 2 hour plane and 3 hour bus transfer which was my main concern. The Swiss mountain air knocked him out and he slept really well in his travel cot at night. He did come down with a bit of a bug though towards the end of the holiday, and he's only just recovering. 4 days of temps 39+...calpol and neurofen kept it at bay but we're still none the wiser as to what was wrong. He does look to have bottom back teeth coming in though (no.s 9 & 10), but I don't think teething is supposed to cause fevers

MMR next week and I am a bit nervous about it. My nephew had a bad reaction after his, although it didn't start till 5 days after the jabs were given. Ended up at A&E...all was fine in the end and apparently it's quite common for side effects of fever etc to emerge 4 or 5 days after the MMR.

Girlie night out on Sat night and I can't wait...it's been far too long. Cocktails, high heels, and likely hangover here I come

Hope you all have a nice weekend!

turtle23 · 17/04/2009 06:19

MM-Believe me, teething CAN cause fevers.

crashfistfight · 17/04/2009 11:23

hear hear. DD had a temp of 39+ a couple weeks ago and we ended up taking her to A&E and they couldn't find anything wrong. next day saw tooth no9 poking through and by then fever had subsided. praise be to nurofen.

Had our first experience with crazed parents when I went to register for a swimming class. There was a mob wielding pitchforks, tears and threats. amazing.

timmyinatizzy · 17/04/2009 13:22

Waves at Little Ducks. I too am a bit of a lurker

Turtle have been following you on FB and the doula-ring! Glad everything was alright in the end.

DS has his MMR next Tuesday. I'm of the opinion that it has to been done. Being in London there has been a dramatic rise in the number of cases of measles in recent years. And unfortunetly measles can cause complications too, aswell as the MMR jab, but weighing both sides of the coin we have decided to let DS have it.

DP I'm very at you David Tennant spotting. Can't imagine Dr Who being the same without him

FfreckleFface · 17/04/2009 18:36

Still all fine, no MMR after-effects.

Have a lovely weekend all.

HolidaysQueen · 18/04/2009 19:27

DP - how did the class go?

Think we might be starting on molars here and DP away for a week on business next week (first trip since DS was born) DS is a real daddy's boy at the moment, and DH really loving being a dad at the moment so it'll be a bit tough on both of them. FfFf - makes me think a lot about you. Hope you and Ff are doing okay.

Dontpanic · 18/04/2009 22:59

Ta HQ - class went quite well I thought, couple very receptive to the concept already but suffering from the "it'll never work" comments from everyone they know A couple of bits I felt I was winging it on, but that'll work better next time.

Timmy I was attempting to DT spot, but he avoided me Thought we'd found another location today, but it was something else...fairly tripping over all the things being produced round this way nowadays!

FfFf hope you're keeping yourself busy so the time flies! Still v. impressed you can mangage 2 dogs and a baby by yourself, prob cos our pooch needs a late night stroll since he doesn't believe in a quick turn about the garden (in Doggy Darcy manner).

Turtle, don't you dare give up on things like that, we'll be round to babysit for you if your DH doesn't play ball. On the subject of doula-ing, could you a) point me in the direction of the best website for what one does and b) tell me what you'd do to make yourself as "invisible" as poss? Couple this morning were considering it but unsure of cost for starters, then followed up with the not wanting too many people around for homebirth. Suggested doula could field the m/w stuff leaving her DH to get on with the supportive birth companion bit but don't know enough to say any more!

MB how did it go with your consultant, any miracle cures suddenly appeared?

Teething still a pain here, I think that's the reason E is so hit and miss with his food at the moment, weird that he'll eat toast & crunchy Organix snacks but nothing lumpy, takes some purees but not others and is even going off his previously fav food yogurt. Just wondering if it's actually a milk prob again now he's off formula and on the moo milk, and getting wind-cramps rather than teething pains. Sooner he picks up sign language for where it hurts the better!

turtle23 · 19/04/2009 06:56

DP- will facebook you.

http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/40025925/miracle cures hoving to on the horizon, possibly dp. conventional meds not really cutting the ice.

had a great weekend this weekend though. always have less pain and more energy once period starts. in this as in rest of life, i guess!!

hope all well. i've caught the sun so much i have to go bed RIGHT NOW!

merryberry · 19/04/2009 21:39

yup, that tired

trying link again

FfreckleFface · 20/04/2009 09:47

Uugh. Up half the night shivering, throwing up, and feeling generally sorry for myself. Am being a rubbish mummy now, letting Ff amuse herself with a basket of washing, still in her PJs, while I try and stomach some water and build up the necessary energy to dress Ff and myself, then walk the dogs.

Glad to hear you had a good weekend, MB.

HQ & Dontpanic - I am keeping busy and getting on with it. There's nothing else I can do really. Love the thought of a doggy Darcy - I can assure you that neither of mine are remotely dignified enough to be Darcy! The great thing about rotties is that after one mammoth walk a day they are finished, and just lie about the house like enormous teddies. This week should fly for you, HQ. Make the most of some time to yourself - indulgent trash tv and wine helps, I find!

HolidaysQueen · 20/04/2009 21:03

Oh FfFf - hope illness was shortlived and that you are feeling much better. Sorry if i was a bit insensitive bringing up DHs being away - realised afterwards that you might not want to be reminded of it. Taking your advice though - currently deciding between 24 and Britain's Next Top Model while supping vino. Eating seafood and then choc cheesecake for dessert, both of which DH loathes

Loving this weather. We're on a scheme with local cycling campaign to get families cycling, so have baby seat on loan and I'm enjoying get out and about on the bike with DS. He loves it and I get exercise, and get to places faster than with buggy. Hoping the weather holds out for my next day off on Thursday as have another trip planned.

Dontpanic · 20/04/2009 22:42

Ok, am currently practising my distance Reiki healings, anyone want some? No guarantees how effective it'll be, but I need to do some more distance stuff instead of just hands-on so feel free to take me up on it

MB and FfFf will be on the list whether you like it or not

turtle23 · 21/04/2009 07:00

DP- Me please!

OP posts:
Dontpanic · 21/04/2009 21:58

all Reiki'd out now, Turtle got hers earlier, Ff& MB it's working on you now for an hr or so

turtle23 · 22/04/2009 06:41

DP- I don't know if it was you or not but I went to bed without a bucket for the first time in a week.

Just a quick question to those who have an older DS as well...how long do they do the brrrrrrum thing with cars for? P has been driving me round the bend with this every time he plays with a car for the last few weeks. DH kindly showed him yesterday that other things (eg a shoe) could be cars and now it is non-stop. I love him, but...argh...

HolidaysQueen · 22/04/2009 09:04

ROFL turtle That has cheered me up immensely - sat in a windowless room waiting for an all day Finance/IT training session to start and had a complete sense of humour failure until I read about P and the motorised shoes

merryberry · 22/04/2009 10:02

'IT's JUST A PHASE'

grrrrrrrrr.

hate that phrase ;)

mine still does brrmmm brrrmm. interspersed with hours when he will only say 'maaaaah maaaah' like timmy the sheep. he's nearly 4. dh has grown out of this all though. he's 43. there is hope.

i'm guessing somewhere around sullen teenagerness, it goes quiet.

pantshavenames · 22/04/2009 13:16

Cars aren't too bad, wait till they get into trains, with stations and bridges and junctions and a 'NOT THAT WAY MUMMEEEEE' mentality.

And don't be fooled into thinking that getting a battery powered one will help, because that won't do what it's told either but will provide you with a godawful noise to ramp up the headache.

DD has discovered nodding. It takes up nearly all of her upper body and is mainly random but without fail at the end of each story like she particularly agrees with the punchline...'yes,yes he is a beautiful butterfly' .

bambipie · 23/04/2009 10:40

I was a regular here, have namechanged. I'm just bursting to talk though. Period a bit late (not normal for me) and felt quesey this morning so thought I'd better do a pg test (to check it was okay to drink) and OMG it was positive. Am resisting the urge to text DH. Arghhhhh. Can it be true?? We have been 'relaxed' about contraception but still rather a miracle, I thought we had avoid the key time of the month! Don't know what to think!!! We were going to start TTC soon so I am pleased - but gosh!!!

turtle23 · 23/04/2009 12:05

Congrats bamipie..(who were you???)
Me too.

turtle23 · 23/04/2009 12:49

bambipie, even. Sorry. Just dug out my doppler and even though I am only 9 and a bit weeks I heard the heartbeat! Woo-hoo! Hurdle 1..knowing baby is alive.

OP posts:
bambipie · 23/04/2009 14:06

Ahhh and congrats turtle! It's really early days for me so I shall try not to think about it! Only gave up bf about 2 weeks ago so I haven't had much time at being able to have myself to myself!
It's really weird - I can't seem to remember anything about last time, like if you are meant to see MW etc.!
Told dh and he is pleased (although suuprised!).

ilovegreenbeans · 23/04/2009 15:56

congrats bambipie! (Give us a clue though, who were you?)
I have decided it's almost time for us to start ttc again too... maybe next month! Watch this space...
