Trace, your bathing thread ov hit some nerves! Nearly 100 messages

Think youi might haver a ways to go before topping onr of LadyT's threads I remember about baby names - that raised a few hackles

Veggiemummy · 18/03/2009 17:44

Oh can you link so I can have a look. It is a real shock to leave this thread and see how mean some people are. I've never been on an ante-post natal thread before is ours unusual in how nice and supportive we all are?

Lady I wouldn't be so bothered about how long you are away from the gorgeous O but rather that she is with your MIL. The bit about then going onto your mums would be nice though. Also is it difficult arguing with your DP because of his profession, does he give a closing speech to his argument.

daisydora · 18/03/2009 17:54

Just got back from the beach, yes thats right the beach. DD has had the time of her life it was such a beautiful day. I went with my nan & grandad as grandad has a knee replacement op tomorrow and we thought he could do with some fresh air prior to his admission

Oh someone link trace's thread please!

Right off to catch up back later

PS I will not be recreating the Prince Charles impersonation...ever! Well, go on though maybe after after a few wines

Another request for a link to Trace's thread. How can people get so het up about baby bathing?

jolly lol at your cat! I'm interested in your work, my uncle has learning disabilities as well. You're right about needing a good place to work, my uncle has worked at McD's before, not a good experience for him. He's currently working in the Boots distribution centre but they're closing it so my mum & her sisters are having meetings to make sure they find him another job. He needs something to do otherwise he'll just go to the pub all day.

daisy am very of the beach. I would love to live close to the coast!

veggie I'm very similar re birth now, reading anything I can get my hands on! I'm thinking about becoming a doula but I think I'll have to wait until the boys are older just because of the childcare. But I'm going to look at being a postnatal doula in the meantime.

LadyThompson · 18/03/2009 18:30

I remember that thread very well, Effie. There are some very humourless people on MN. 600 odd messages and a fatwa.

daisydora · 18/03/2009 18:33

It never surprises me how totally OTT people get on some of these threads! Some are very much 'agree with me or face a stoning'. I'm going to stay cosy under my Dec mums blanket, for now anyway

spotofcheerfulness · 18/03/2009 18:52

Mine's a large namesake please, barman. T been weird all day, only napped for 30 mins at a time (normally does at least an hour at lunch), not feeding well, screamed in the bath (most unusual as he likes it normally) cheeks bigger than ever so think this tooth that's threatening to break through is really on the way! PLus he had his 12 week jabs yesterday. Did anyone else's LOs seem a bit off their game the day after their jabs?
Am a bit worried about tonight as DP abroad for work and I think it'll be a long one...

Veggiemummy · 18/03/2009 18:54

Oh LadyT what was yours on.

My fav thread is when someone did a AIBU: in expecting my husband to buy me a BMW it was clearly taking the piss but all these women took it seriously and this whole SAHM v WM arguement started. The classic was the girl who started it and the ones who knew it was a P- take were having a fun conversation inbetween all the abusing tooing and froing (how do you spell that??)

Veggiemummy · 18/03/2009 18:58

Oh and just popping out to buy Daisy some lovely vino.

Veggiemummy · 18/03/2009 19:02

pops back in a blonks 2 bottles of Californian Pinot Noir and a bottle of good Aussie Chardonnay in front of Daisy<

Superspot- ds2 has been like that today short sleeps and all, but ok in the bath though started it at 4.30 rather than 5 due to said teeny sleeps. In bed now completely shattered but who knows how night will go (touching wood vigorously)

Veggiemummy · 18/03/2009 19:03

Sorry that should have been and plonks!

Off to bath son 2 now.

Verso · 18/03/2009 19:31

Thanks for the suggestion of Relate. I eventually managed to persuade DH to go after DD1. We went once, but it was so expensive (£45/hour) and neither of us rated the counsellor that we decided not to go back. The good thing about it was that that decision was the first truly mutual decision we'd made in months, and made us feel like an "us" again!

I have had a good day today - met up with sybil (who always talks sense! ) and have also had a pleasant, calm, evening putting the DDs to bed sans DH as he has parents' evening. We shall see what the night ahead brings. Thank you all, as ever, for your support.

traceface · 18/03/2009 19:36

ditto verso - my dh is at parents' evening too so I've got the girls into bed toute seule and am feeling very smug about how calm it is here. Silence reigns except for the tapping of my fingers on the keys (and the snort/ steam train impression coming from Phoebe over the monitor!)

I don't know how to link a thread. I would link the bath thing otherwise - it's in parenting called "is once a week enough to bath a 4 year old?" - but if you read it you're not allowed to be mean to me!!!

traceface · 18/03/2009 19:37

oh and lal - so sorry to disappoint but we've run out of cornflakes

SybilFaulty · 18/03/2009 19:38

Lovely to see you Verso . We had a nice lunch in the sunshine, with tea and tiffin for V and, er, a glass of cheerfulness for me. Liquid lunch, always the best sort. I did notice that lots of the women in Clapham were very slim and very young (as the old bird on the thread I feel I can notice these things!) but it must definitely be repeated. I'll try to organise things better next time.

Trace, I have replied on your bath thread and don't think a week is too long at all. Some people are very snooty and very arrogant - if one doesn't do it their way, then it's wrong. It's not as if she doesn't get a good wash in between. I have read in several places how the bugs in hospitals have become superbugs as we are all paranoid about germs and using anti bac etc, and I think this is similar. She is not going to dissolve if she only has a bath once a week and she is not going to smell either. I think you know what works for you and you should have the courage of your convictions.

Oh dear, M crying, better go. Will read and post more later.

SybilFaulty · 18/03/2009 19:39

sorry lost a bit there - the lunch must be repeated. I fear the slim and the young has gone for me for ever >

Verso · 18/03/2009 19:47

I can't believe all these women who go around sniffing infants! There's one on there who sounds like a bloodhound or Sherlock Holmes or something... "I can smell whether a child has eaten a Marks and Spencer ready meal or perhaps something garlicky from Tesco"

Didn't dare comment...

artichokes · 18/03/2009 19:52

Sybil/Verso - I am sorry I could not make it today. I meant to post on the other thread and give my apologies but I kept forgetting - sorry! Our car was being used by DH and so it would have been a nightmare to get to Clapham. I am glad you both had a nice time.

What do all the London girls think of another big meet-up at the Royal Festival Hall? It would be really nice to see everybody together again.

Trace - I had a giant tortilla crisp today and thought of you...

SuperSpot - sorry T has been off today. DD2 had her second jabs yesterday and was hot and grumpy last night but OK today. Although she did do a smelly poo (more smelly than normal). So I think the jabs can really affect them.

Well today's experiment with a routine was OK ish. Feeding wise she happily adjusted to one feed every three hours. We will see what affect it has on her nights. I actually found her snacking habit made her very easy. If she is on the boob I can MN, chat on the phone etc etc etc. With the new routine I actually had to stimulate her when she started to get hungry . It was nice though because it meant i had to play with her more. The harder thing to tackle is her short naps. When in the cot she now only sleeps for 30 minutes at a time. I really want her to do a longer nap at lunchtime else I have to put her down for another nap every 90 minutes which is really hard. Any tips for extending naps in the cot?

daisydora · 18/03/2009 20:00

, still no sign of Prince Charles though

SummerLightning · 18/03/2009 20:08

Hi all,
verso sounds like you had a nice day! Nice to hear you more cheerful.
Love the talk of arguments on other threads. trace I had a nose at your thread, and LadyT I was curious so I even found your old baby name one. Absolutely hilarious. I cannot believe you argued back so calmly and rationally for so long. Really people get so het up. I run away from arguments on the internet as I know it's just not worth it!
arti that is what I should probably be doing with DS too. I think I feed him too often, when he gets grouchy, and like you I find it easier. Ds also sleeps for only 30 mins or so or a bit more in the cot now. I think this may be common, as my friend with her Gina-baby is having the same problem and she is thinking of going out for 2 hr walks at lunchtime to persuade her back into the habit . I am sorry but I could not be bothered with that. Maybe slightly more bearable given current weather though, and my friend does at least like walking. I find it very dull for long periods of time.
verso did someone really say they could tell what a child ate by sniffing them?? That's just weird.
Oh and Trace I went out for a run and Cornflake Girl by Tori Amos came on my ipod. I thought of you!

lal07 · 18/03/2009 20:30

Ooh good idea arti would be great to do rfh again and as pollen seems to be better looks like I might be able to leave house without alarming people with coughing.

Trace have you run out of cornflakes in a mysterious and/or sinister fashion?

Veggiemummy · 18/03/2009 20:38

Oh im going to go off to Traces friend and pretend I'm a specialist in infection control!!!!

daisydora · 18/03/2009 20:45

trace I can't believe so many people got worked up over how often you choose to bath your DD - hilarious! Personally I think its fine, I don't remember having loads of baths as a child. Loved your comment about wanting your child to smell like a child and not like various lotions and potions!

verso great to hear you had a good day with sybil and that you sound more positive today

On the napping front DS never seems to sleep more than an hour at a time. Although we had a breakthrough tonight tried him with the EBM,he laughed at me and then downed 5 oz's this was only an hour after I'd fed him He is now safe and snug in his cot and I'm hoping he stays that way for a while.

Veggiemummy · 18/03/2009 21:34

sprints back in the thread door and dives behind Daisy

EffiePerine · 18/03/2009 21:37

I may go back to LadyT's thread and see if it's as funny as I remember it . Yes, the women who go round sniffing schoolchildren should be put on some sort of list...

Verso: glad you had a good day, hope the girls give you a good night as well . I chuckled at your marital solidarity over the Relate counsellor - I can see that happening with me and DH if we went to one. But might it be an idea to try counselling for yourself? It might give you the chance to step back from your DH's behaviour and establish your own happiness if that makes sense.

Lovely day here, playgroup this morning, errands this afternoon (including getting DS1's hair cut, always interesting ) then park till teatime. I LOVE the sunny weather, but I hear it is not going to last - grrrr.
