A pat on the back sounds pretty tactile to me! It must be your Italian heritage MM

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 20:04

Myjob - Poor DS . I wouldn;t worry about milestones. I was moaning to a HV on Friday (the one who told me off for not doing tummy time) that M wasn't even trying to sit up. Cue her sitting up on her own. They have to try out new skills before they get the hang of them so N was probably having a go and will do it again soon, then eventually master it. Girls tend to chat more while boys do the physical stuff earlier. That is definately true of my two. You could have a good chat with M from three months, but DS would not chat at all. But he was rolling at four months, sitting at 5 months and crawling at 6.5 months. M is not sitting on her own all the time. Today she couldn't be bothered.

I'm very cuddly with my immediate family, just not with my mum, dad and brother. DS regularly gets snuggled to death but luckily he loves it now. He HATED cuddles when he was a baby. M on the other hand LOVES cuddles and DH is very cuddly. His family are very tactile and because I'm not a big fan of the ILs, except SIL who is lovely, I find the affection too, too much. MIL once offended me and felt so bad she gave me a looooooooooooong hug, I could have died! I just did the patting, then dropped my arms down, but she didn't let go. ARRRRRGGGHHHHH!

Pepper - I missed your post earlier but . That is exactly the sort of thing I would do! I have been so close so many times, it will happen eventually I'm sure. I've been to collect him from nursery when he was with my mum. Luckily I remembered at the last minute

jenwa · 30/03/2009 20:16

myjob I am sure N is fine, P only rolled yesterday and to be honest not at all today. I feel guilty for not putting her down enough on the floor rather than her being in her bouncy chair but am too worried DD1 will jump on her. They are all soooo different. Just give it time, if she is still on your lap at 18 you know you may have a problem but seriously I think she is fine
I hate dit and dust so hate the fact I can not tidy as I hate looking at it hopefully next week it will all be fine.

Not heard from csws hoping her house is ok, she is obviously very stressed out about that, poor thing.

MM huge big hug coming your way dont push me away . I was not a big hugger when I was younger and till sometimes feel uncomfy with it now, I did with my mum and do with dh and my children but really have to know someone well. Also because of my dodgy hearing and these horrible aids, sometimes, if anyone gets too close they squeel so thats embarrasing!!!! ]hmm]

jenwa · 30/03/2009 20:17

HM waved back to you on the other thread, that was funny though. I like threads like that that make you chuckle!!

jenwa · 30/03/2009 20:24

I also noticed that someone who used to be on this thread is not on here anymore and that is plusonemore, I have seen she is back on the sept thread now. Just a random statement there.
Only remembered her as she was also in worcs.

SmudgeyDoodle · 30/03/2009 20:53

Evening all. You've all been chatting lots and you know what, reading through it, there is so much support and care between people, it's lovely
Can I ditto what others have said CSWS, Star, HMM. I don't get to come on the internet every day so often have lots to catch up on and then forget who said what.
Star - lumps are important for them to learn to chew. You might find that giving Q either puree or a chunk of something means that he chokes less. He might have choken on the avocado because he wasn't expecting a lump IYSWIM?
MYjobis - lovely photos. I like the toast one too. HMM - you going for the coil then? I've got my appointment on Wed but not looking forward to it. AT least I know that I won't be in trouble this time round as we have abstained for the last 2 weeks and DH away this week. I've got a real bouncer in DD. When she sees the sling bit now, she starts grinning and bouncing. She can't roll over yet but can sit on her own. They all do things differently and they will all get there in their own time. Don't panic. Right off to bed now as nights have been awful.

Shameless plug for the holiday pictures I added that you might not have noticed

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 21:09

Well, M is a cheeky monkey. She went to sleep at 7.45 and woke up at 8.15. She chatted for a while then started crying. I went up to find her teddies all over the place and a wiggly M in the middle! She saw me and started oooo ooo ooooing wanting to be picked up and when I did, she gave me a huge kiss and cuddle. You gotta love that manipulation! She's on my lap now as she was so wide awake it seemed pointless trying to get her back to bed yet! I want to go to bed!

Smudgey - Lovely pics and yes, we're all lovely on this thread

Honeymoonmummy · 30/03/2009 21:20

Smudgey and MM - love the pics!

Poppy just raised a (gaviscon) bottle to her mouth with both hands and got the teat in her mouth!! [proud mum emoticon]

Oh and forgot to say earlier, I weighed myself before and I've lost 5lbs since I've been DF Had a chinese to celebrate

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 21:25

Nice one hmm. I have been goodish today but seem to have become addicted to sugar. I must go cold turkey.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/03/2009 21:59

lol at chinese celebration hmm. And yum for chinese food. Today I've mostly eaten dry bread, as tummy still sore. About to brave some pitta bread with taramasalata though, as taramasalata is so well known for fixing bad tummies .

star - babies are used to sucking milk straight to the back of their throats to swallow it. When offered purees after only milk they naturally try to do the same thing, which they can generally cope with, but then when a lump is introduced this method can result in gagging/choking. By offering a bigger chunk of something they are therefore actually less likely to choke.

at pepper.

myjob - don't worry about the milestones. Although ds rolled a few times ages ago, he hasn't done it at all of late, except from front to back which he does tonnes. He's seemingly not as good as Q at sitting yet either, as he's not stable enough for me to be confident to leave him unpropped/unattended.

star - you must have a smear test. You don't want to end up like Jade Goody. Q needs his mummy to look after herself.

House still the same jenwa. We can't really touch it until loss adjuster has come on Wedns. We had our patio man round today though, and even after us telling him what had happened on the phone, he was quite shocked by the state it was in. He is going to do us a quote for re-doing the huge area that would put it back to how it was, plus a quote for extending it slightly and laying deeper foundations across one section, so that it would be strong enough to put a brick shed/garage on. Our builder is also going to do us a quote for building such a shed/garage. We figured that if it were to happen again in the future then at least brick wouldn't burn so quickly, and it's one bit of building work where the value it adds to the house prob outweighs the cost of it.

heather1980 · 30/03/2009 22:55

yum yum chinese food. i wish i could lose weight, although i am in the same size pre pregnancy clothes i have put on weight and feel fat and frumpy, but i always feel hungry. i think it's the bf, it's awful. i used to be a size 8-10 and am now a 16 and i hate it!

alex loves tummy time and rolls back and forth all the time. he is also sort of crawling. he kind of digs his toes into the floor and pushes himself forwards, so he never stays where he is put. he ends up all over the place.

i have also started to potty train dd, it's not going so well. she didn't manage to pee in the potty at all today BUT she did tell me that she needed to go we just didn't get there in time. so i will keep trying for now and see how we get on.

i remember the mw massaging my boobs after dd was born to make my milk come in i was very at that. nothing like that this time which was better, my mw was amazing and i wish i could clone her and pass her round!

aubergenie · 31/03/2009 09:34

MM at ds crawling at 6 ½ months! To be honest, that?s my worst nightmare as our flat is completely baby UNfriendly. A friend came round last week with her LO who is now moving about and it was a horrible vision of the future. I?m just not sure how we?re going to baby proof such a lot of stuff in such a small space. We really need to move, but dp?s job is finishing in June and I?m going back pt so I don?t know how we?re going to afford it. London is so blinkin expensive. Boo.

Fortunately ds is so fat, he?s not going anywhere yet. He still can?t roll, and I think it?s because he?s so chunky. He?s really chatty though. I love listening to him chatting away to me, or his toys.

CSWS ? I saw your patio pics on Facebook. Scary. I hope the insurance means you?ll at least end up with something better than before.

Smudgy ? nice pics!

Yay for the weight loss HMM! Good luck back at the docs (today isn't it?).

star6 · 31/03/2009 09:46

aubergenie - same boat here! And we're both working FT. Surrey is so expensive too... I don't see how we'll afford to move. Especially since we bought our 1 bed maisonette 2 years ago and market is SO bad right now. And even though I'm working, with childcare and bills, can't even afford the moving expenses (and no, wouldn't be more affordable if I just stayed home... we can't afford that at all). We have so little space and the entry to our place is a stairway. It's ours, so no one else uses it and it's spotless cleaned by me every day... but that won't prevent Q from falling down them!
I'm actually really worried about him having his own room soon, too. Can't just put him in the living room as DH goes to bed so much later than Q and I.

Marthasmama · 31/03/2009 09:50

Aubergenie - your ds is gorgeous! Dh thought he looked like he was wearing a He-Man costume in your pictures. DS was also walking at 10 months. Argghhhhhhhh. I just deleted the rest of my post and I am doing this one handed as M is asleep on me. I'll write it again later

star6 · 31/03/2009 09:52

thanks smudgey and csws for chunks advice. I'm just so scared . Maybe I'll give the stuff with chunks to dh to feed him and sit in the corner covering my eyes

congrats to poppy for getting that bottle in herself HMM! Glad to hear you're feeling less rickety

Myjob - poor ds. How is his hand from the door incident? That sounded awful!

MM lol about the ils and big long hugs! I've been there! But I do love, (despite my nationality) closeness and cuddles

I was told by GP yesterday I'd need a smear test when I re scheduled Q's jabs. I asked if there was some sort of sedative I could take - they said no. I felt like I would vomit. Truly. I'll ask again when I bring Q in.

Marthasmama · 31/03/2009 10:03

Is there a GP you like at your surgery? Do you have a female GP? I'm sure if you explain the problem they'll be able to do something to help. If not I'd complain to the PCT. Smear's are important but you shouldn't have to suffer that much to have one done. I always request the numbing cream before having a canula put in, even though I get laughed at as it is for children. At least it stops my hand going purple and swelling up like an orange.

aubergenie · 31/03/2009 10:46

ROFL at He-Man! He's going to be World's Strongest Boy and Channel 4 will make a documentary about him and then we'll be rich enough to leave our flat.

Star - You know you need to have a smear, but don't have one until you're happy that they've taken your worries on board. You can also go to a GUM or well-woman clinic for one. They do them all the time and so might be better at addressing your concerns than the GP.

Marthasmama · 31/03/2009 10:55

Aubergenie - DS looked like at tiny rugby player at this age. He had huge muscular legs, by the time he was 15 months he could over-power the MIL and she was not able to get him in his car seat. Now he's a long streak of nothing, but he still has very strong legs! The MIL is rather pathetic though. She can't hold M for long

By the way, I have put a new pic on my profile which demonstrates why I'm often able to sit here on MN for a couple of hours. Just before you all think I'm a terrible mother!

Honeymoonmummy · 31/03/2009 12:57

You can get numbing cream for a canula??? Goddammit. I HATED having that put in That was the bit I feared the most about the labour - hahahahahaha how stupid naive was I?? I also had a hypnotherapy CD that I religiously listened to daily for the last 2 months. Muppet.

Aubergenie, I second that re your pics, he is gorgeous, was it you I was talking to about what camera you used a few weeks ago? I think it was you. They are such good quality.

I've just been to the docs, I've been prescribed Sertraline which is the one I asked for after researching the best for BF, she agreed.

I asked about a smear but she said that's an old fashioned way of thinking that you need a smear after birth and when you first have sex, that's outdated now and my next one is due June next year.

Poppy has her 3rd round of injections shortly, I'm going for the feed while it's done again, third time's a charm!

Marthasmama · 31/03/2009 13:09

You can indeed hmm! Do you have tiny child's hands like me? Myjob must have tiny little mitts too as she is so petite. I too was dreading having the canula put in more than the c-section! It was suggested to me by a lovely SHO who couldn't get blood out of my canula after a cancelled op because my veins had collapsed. When I was in hospital with M I had a canual in my left hand, then my right, then my wrist, then my right elbow (inside), then the left (inside) then the left outside and nearly, nearly had to have one in my foot. Yay

Marthasmama · 31/03/2009 13:27

Sorry DH phoned..... Hmm - are you living at the dr's today? Glad you've got something sorted for yourself now.

Oh bless your DS Myjob! I'm always so impressed by the way you cover everyone in your posts, do u tyoe them in Word first or something?? I can never remember beyond the current page!

CSWS how are you feeling now?

MM no I have long hands. I can't stand needles. I really wish you hadn't told me about the different places, can't you just stick to worms and willies?? I did have blood taken from my hand when I was in hospital and every time they took my BP that hand swelled up like a golf ball
