That's weird - my message disappeared.

Anyway, great news HMM!

I'm waiting for a heating engineer to turn up and try and locate our smell (which weirdly seems to have gone today when I need it!). I feel like I can't get started with anything as he's going to need to get in each room. How long would you wait before phoning to see if he's coming? He was due at 9.

star6 · 30/03/2009 09:42

Q is sitting by himself WITHOUT falling over!!!!
He will topple, but only when he's reaching and twisting for something... then he goes onto his tummy, sometimes hitting his face (and crying) but it's so obvious how much more sturdy he is now.... amazing! Hes been sitting up for a while, but I couldn't trust it without pillows or me or dh right next to him... now, he's able to catch himself before wobbling over. This is so amazing. It happened overnight!

aubergenie · 30/03/2009 09:56

Well done Q!!!

I've just put Stan in his baby door bouncer that arrived this morning. He's gurgling happily but hasn't quite figured out what he's supposed to do...

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 12:08

Yay Q!! Did you have a sleepless night Star? Sometimes they get restless the night before they make a developmental leap. It is amazing how they can suddenly do something new, overnight.

Aubergenie - Hope the engineer arrived. DS never worked out how to use his baby bouncer. When he was 6 months he just spun around balancing on one foot and when he was 9 months he just kept trying to walk in it . He never bounced, but then neither of my babies did/do that bouncing on your lap thing. M and DS both just wanted to stand, rigid, not bouncing. Bouncing is so cute.

I'm back from my appointment and it was actually more painful than I remember. But it's over so quickly that it wasn't too bad. What's a little discomfort when it can save your life.

star6 · 30/03/2009 12:16

MM you're brave. No way in any way am I going to go and have a smear done. absolutely not.

jenwa · 30/03/2009 12:55

star You have too!!! You must, it is not painful like child birth. mm glad you got it done.

HM hope your appt goes well.

Phoebe finally rolled on to her tummy yesterday, she has been trying for ages but to be honest has not had much time lying on the floor due to DD1 running about!

Will await the sitting although not sure her big belly will let her

aubergenie Hope the smell was located and solved!

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 13:11

Yes Star you must! I know you had a terrible time giving birth but it is so important to get checked out. It was only painful-ish for me today because I had lots of mucus that needed moving. My last smear was a breeze, I didn't feel a thing!

star6 · 30/03/2009 13:15

I always feel it. It always hurts. It always takes about 20 minutes (I'm not exaggerating) for the nurse to get "in" and for me to calm down. Then that horrid scraping sensation stays with me for weeks after. ooooooh I can feel it now! Can't they offer a sedative before doing it?

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 13:22

I can't find anything definitive online but there appears to be anecdotal evidence that it has been done. Ask your GP. I'm sure they'd rather sedate you and get it done than scare you away.

pepperrabbit · 30/03/2009 13:41

star, I have a friend who is prescribed a single dose of valium which she takes before her appt - she always has to get someone to drive her there though!

star6 · 30/03/2009 14:15

valium safe while bf??

Honeymoonmummy · 30/03/2009 14:47

Hey all, well done on the developmental milestones!

Went to doc, she was v sympathetic, I've got to complete a questionnaire, similar to the 6 week one, and go back to see her tmrw.

I've been reading a few old threads and think I'm just gonna go for the drugs now. I found you on one thread CSWS...again!! You do get about don't you??

I feel better just for going and being taken seriously

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 15:06

Hurrah hmm! Glad you're feeling more positive. It's so good when someone actually listens to you and takes you seriously isn't it? Did you get to see the GP you wanted to see? Is she particulalry good? My favourite gp has gone to LA boooooooo! I used to request him as I would go in, tell him what was wrong, what I needed and he would just do as he was told. He treated me with respect and talked to me like an equal. I'm gutted he's not around anymore. I see CSWS sometimes on other threads and I saw ronshar too the other day. And as you know, I've found you on other threads too. I'm an MN whore, I'm all over the place!

Star - You might have a point there..... See here for info. But I am sure they can do something to help you. It's so important of you to be screened.

heather1980 · 30/03/2009 15:42

star - when i had my last smear they used a childs speculum (sp?) and a plastic scraper rather than a wooden one and it didn't hurt so much, but then i was only 8 weeks post partum when it was done.

Star - sorry I'll try that link again: here

Honeymoonmummy · 30/03/2009 17:05

Oh yeah, I've heard of that too Aubergenie/ Star.

I had a scrape when I went for a pre-coil test, that was to check for clamydia (sp?) and something else, will that do rather than a full smear? It was 6 weeks after the birth, what was I thinking?!?!? It wasn't THAT bad tho. I had a proper one just before became PG. I used to hate smears from the embarrassment factor but it's not quite such an issue since I've had a baby!!!

aubergenie · 30/03/2009 17:09

Ds loves his bouncer! He started off doing that one legged thing that your ds did MM, but he's started to figure out the bouncing bit. My friend told me about a baby she knew who had one and always wanted to bounce, so I just hope he doesn't turn out like that. Could get a bit tiresome...

pepperrabbit · 30/03/2009 17:10

I am such a muppet.
I just dashed to collect DS1 from school, hurtling along with buggy + DS2 trailing and wailing.
When I meet my neighbour coming the other way with DS1 whom she always collect for me on a monday.
I was very embarrassed at such a public display of stupidity .
I am sooo thankful we both chose the same route and I didn't miss her and turn up at the classroom demanding DS1
And I've got a zit today, FGS, I'm 40. When will they end?
Sorry.

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 17:10

yes HMM - you do have a new perspective on things that were once embarassing. I think getting help with bfing was the thing that really put an end to my prudishness. Various MWs and nurses 'shaping' my nipples. Lovely!

jenwa · 30/03/2009 17:13

pepper haha how funny just lol!!!!

jenwa · 30/03/2009 17:13

pepper haha how funny just lol!!!!

aubergenie · 30/03/2009 17:47

Oh God yes, all dignity goes out of the window doesn't it. I remember one of the hospital nurses manhandling my boobs the day after ds was born while my teenage neice cringed in the corner.

The funny thing is, one of my friends is training to be a breastfeeding supporter and they're not supposed to touch anyone's breasts at all.

Marthasmama · 30/03/2009 18:04

Really?! I needed the help to be honest. I could always use an extra pair of hands with these monsters! To be honest I felt most strange when my community MW was helping me. She reminded me of my mum so it was a bit weird for me! We're not a vyer tactile family. Who needs a hug when a pat on the shoulder will do...
