That's sweet of you to remember them MM. Well, friend's sister is doing OK, as well as can be really under the circumstances. She's lucky that she's got lots of lovely family close by and they really pull together when things get tough so she's got some good support around her.

My other friend had the op to have her ovaries removed but, horribly, was given false hope when they said they thought that it was unlikely to be full-blown cancer after all, but obviously they had to wait for the test results to come back to confirm it. She was really chirpy and massively relieved. Unfortunately it turns out that it is cancer and she has to go back in for an op to remove her womb and start chemo really soon. Just awful.

CSWS - I really hope you can get your insurance sorted out and that you are covered for everything.

Right. Ds has woken, fed and gone back to sleep, so I'm going to hop into bed now as well. Wishing you all good sleep.

ronshar · 27/03/2009 21:54

I could be wrong but I thought that it was better to leave the foreskin alone! What is the right thing to do? I currently use water or wipes and just clean around the penis and everything else of course.
Girls much easier. One wipe and off you go

See now I'm worried! Am I supposed to be doing something to DS1's foreskin??? He's nearly 5. Why does no-one tell you these things! Why am I even thinking of discussing this on a Friday night? How has my life come to this point ?
myjob - I was with you finding DD far more difficult to assess if she was properly clean or not - at least with a boy you can see everything that might be grubby!
CSWS, so sorry to hear about the fire, hope you're OK, these things can be such a shock even if no one is physically hurt.

CSWS, I'm sorry to hear about the fire, thank god you're all OK.

Star - hahahahahahaha!!!

Pistachio - congrats on the new course!

Poppy hates tummy time too, altho as the reflux improves then she's become more tolerant of it.

I went to the osteopath today, he says I'm improving. I do feel a bit less achey. I found an old thread of loads of women who felt similarly arthritic after their births so that's given me some comfort! Apparently to do with the relaxin and too much lactic acid in the joints..

I only got Poppy to sleep an hour ago, we always do bathtime at 7 but Poppy and I fell asleep and DH didn't think to wake us up so she was really overtired by the time we finished bathing her.

Have a good weekend everyone!

CSWS, you must be a bit shaken up, the fire sounds awful. I hope you get things sorted with the insurance company. At least you and your family are ok....

HMM glad you are feeling a bit better, lets hope the improvement continues.

Matthew isn't fussed about tummy time, though he tolerates it, but he lies with his hands back along his sides so doesn't do the 'mini-push-ups' all the books go on about and gets tired very quickly. He still hasn't got the hang of rolling either poor chap. DD didn't crawl till 8mths and was walking by 10 mths, but she is physically very confident and has been since tiny (wish I was as confident as she is, she frequently scares the life out of me). I have a feeling Matthew may be more like me - I was a bum-shuffler and am still hopelessly unco-ordinated. I once tried to do an exercise video & could either get my legs doing what they were supposed to do, or my arms but not both together. Needless to say, I'm not going to be taking any classes in the gym any time soon

Matthew has been given a paediatrician appt for Tuesday, so I'm looking forward to hopefully starting to find some solutions to cheer him up.... Think he may be teething as well, though!

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm going to try and curb my mn usage a bit as dh is getting irritated by me constantly being on the computer in the evenings , so I'll catch up tomorrow I think....

Right boy's willies - I have done some research because DS has that ballon effect when he wees. Little boys often stretch their willies and this apparently seperates the foreskin from the, um, glans. It can get a bit itchy because it is attached when their babies and starts to seperate as they grow. They should be able to start getting the foreskin over the glans around the age of five, but this is where opinions online differ. Some say that if they are still having problems at 5 that you should take them to the gp, others say that it's not a problem until they're about 8/9. There are stretching exercise you can get them to do in the bath when it's nice and loose & warm. I've been getting DS to pull his as far back as he can (but not so it hurts of course) then to just hold it there. It is improving so we are just asking him to do it on a gradual basis. I don't want him to have it chopped unnecessarily. Ouch!

Augergenie - Your poor friend bloody doctors misleading her . I hope she's ok, hope they have caught it nice and early. I'll be thinking of her.

Ekka - Second babies are often more chilled out and like to enjoy being babies so are more reluctant to do anything other than sit and watch the world go by. I have found this with M! She is too chilled out to bother with all that moving about nonsense. Doesn't stop me worrying obviously as DS was so keen to get on with it. But I know she's ok. I hope you get to the bottom of what's going on with poor Matthew.

Hmm - glad you're feeling less ancient and rickety .

We made a lovely discovery last night. DS had worms YUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!! Poor little man was totally beside himself! So we've all been de-wormed now have had to scrub our fingers clean. M is ok, she has no sign of them. Horrible horrible horrible.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/03/2009 12:13

Ewwwwww to worms Could you actually see them???

Marthasmama · 28/03/2009 12:53

Yes Hmm..... It is disgusting! They come out when light is shined on them!! Apparently, when my brother and I had them when we were young, my mum shone a torch on our bottoms to make the worms wiggle out. Cheers mum. She also put head lice on a slide to look at them under my microscope. My mum saw every horrible parasite infestation as an oppotnuity to give us a science lesson.

Way way TMI!

Honeymoonmummy · 28/03/2009 13:45

Thank god I've finished lunch

Marthasmama · 28/03/2009 13:45

Ha! Sorry !

Honeymoonmummy · 28/03/2009 13:55

It's my fault for asking!

Marthasmama · 28/03/2009 13:58

Yeah but I didn't have to elaborate that much.

loulou33 · 28/03/2009 14:23

MM - sorry about the worms - hope they are cleared up soon. I was convinced that ds1 had worms recently as he has been eating almost non-stop and scratching his bum a lot - i couldn't see anything - maybe i should shine a torch on his bum and see what happens . Thanks for thinking of me for MN spa break, that was very kind of you....have booke da spa session at centre parcs whilst Joe is at creche, can't wait. Thanks also for willy advice - dh is always asking if we shoudl clean under ds1's forskin but i have read that you should leave well alone until 5. As he's only 3, i have avoided thinking about it but now i feel armed with good info..

Joe loves being on his tummy despite me trying to stop him as its makes him more sick. He is already pushing up with his feet and getting his knees under. DS1 hated tummy time, he didn't crawl til 9 months or walk til 16 months. When he did walk he was really steady on his feet and rarely fell over. I do think that early walkers struggle to co-ordinate themselves and can't stop themselves. Someone said to me that babies are either early walkers or early talkers - ds1 was a talker and still is - i guess Joe wil be a walker then??

CSWS - hope you are ok and that the insurance will cover you for all the stuff that yo lost or got damaged. They are buggers for trying to get out of paying so i don't envy you ahving to make a claim - at least every one is ok - are the patio doors ruined as well?

Aubergenie - i hope you're friend is bearing up - how horrible to get her hopes up like that and then give her such awful news Surely they would have been better just saying nothing??

Did anyone watch that programme with Louise Redknapp on Thursday about skinny preganancy fads and post-baby dieting. I can't believe she left her baby at home at 8 weeks to go to the states to film a stupid programme!!

star6 · 28/03/2009 16:01

Should I be noticing foreskin now? Please excuse my stupidity here... We come from america, where everyonoe is circumsized as a matter of course when born unless you don't want it done and you say something... so DH was circumcized at birth and he's the only person I've ever been sexually intimate with so I have no clue what an uncircumcized willy would look like (please don't send me a photo link... I don't like looking at men's willies ). We were surprised here when it wasn't even offered. But then it was explained to us how unecessary it is..? I always thought it had to do with hygeine adn not getting stds...etc.? But they convinced us otherwise here, so we haven't had it done (and I couldn't bear the thought of it happening to Q to be honest either!).

So... can someone explain where the foreskin is and what it looks like so that I don't think he's grown another tumor whenever it apears ?
Unless I'm looking at it every time I change his nappy and just haven't noticed it... in which case sorry.

Marthasmama · 28/03/2009 17:07

You will have been looking at it every time you've changed him Star! I'm trying to remember what a baby's willie looks like. I'll see if I can find a picture of a baby willy for you, not offensive in the slightest. Here you go, it's a drawing too so it should be fine for you to look at! If you really don't want to look, then Q should have a baggy bit of skin at the end of his 'wink' (as it is known in our house). It covers the glans and in a baby will NOT be retractable as it is still attached to the glans. Whatever you do, don't try to retract it, not that I think you would, but just in case . It will stay like that for a good few years and he will probably spend many happy hours stretching it when he gets older. This is normal and as I said earlier, helps the foreskin to come away from the glans.

Have I become the penis expert? [proud emoticon]

pepperrabbit · 28/03/2009 17:47

Thanks MM - I feel so much happier about the willy thing now!
We are going to a party later... how will I stay awake beyond 9.30??? What shall I wear? It's a neighbours 40th - she has 4 kids including 3 yr old twins - and she always looks much more together than me! Mind you, she's just had a HUGE extension built and most of the street are looking forward to having a nose! Think I might do the black dress thing (not a little black dress you notice). OMG - I'll need make up as well.
Wanders off to rifle through old dressing table drawers..

Thanks MM. I can't believe he's going to be spending time playing with it. yuck.
How do people get "worms"? Sounds awful. I hope you feel better soon.
myjob - why ? Is it a bad thing to have done? I have grown up thinking it's normal. But now more and more I'm second guessing it.
