Marthasmama · 27/03/2009 13:10

Hmm - I've just seen your post.

KSal · 27/03/2009 14:22

I just wanted to re-iterate how much help it is to hear all your stories, particularly those of you with more than one child. I guess this place allows us all to be honest and i really appreciate it.

star6 · 27/03/2009 14:55

This is so
Last night, changing Q's nappy... I saw what I THOUGHT was a tumor!!! I totally freaked out and yelled to DH to come quickly. He informed me that it was only his testicle . I had never seen it before. It used to be just a wrinkly mass... DH said it was probably because it was cold...
ok, I know, TMI... sorry.
Goodness, if he had not been home, we would have been straight to the A&E and how that would have been!! Can you imagine?!?!
ANd when DH said "testicle" Q burst out into the longest, loudest giggle I've ever heard! I'm not writing that in his baby book! ha!

Sorry Star but I did have to laugh at the idea of running to A&E! We're not used to how boy's bits behave are we? What until he discovers his willy! I know someone who's 18 month old 'humped' the furniture like a dog!

Myjob - I suppose it's no wonder she's getting big if I can express 11oz! We were going to take M and ds swimming this morning but the pool was being used for lessons . Glad you all had fun and that you forgot about your body worries.

Ksal - No worries, anytime. I'm an open book type of person, so I'm happy to share! I hope you're feeling better soon.

That sounds like dd pistachio. I can't get her to sit as she just wants to stand. She's at her happiest when she's standing up. DS loved tummy time, rolled really early and crawled at 6.5 months. He walked at 10 months too. I'll try it when she's in a good mood (so never!) but I won't hold my breath!

star - actually you should have spotted 2 testicles.... Have a feel for them when he's warm and in the bath. I only say this cos DS1 was 8 months old when an HV pointed out that his testicles hadn't descended. And I hadn't realised - I assumed that must be a puberty thing - I did go to an all girls school if that's any excuse for such shocking biological inadequacy . He was fine in the end - but they didn't arrive till he was two.

pepperrabbit · 27/03/2009 19:58

x posts pistachio as testicles don't really follow on from your news!
Well done you, it's lovely to have something to look forward to that's all about you (in a non selfish way of course) and a new start and everything. I need to get my arse in gear about a childminder for DS1 so I can go back to work, DS2 and DD can go to nursery. It's only just financially worthwhile, but for the sake of my brain and my sanity I'm going to do it. (Just not till Sept!)

jrsqueak · 27/03/2009 20:07

Hi all,
just had a quick read through. Can't believe we are up to weaning already. Not started Joshua yet. He is 23 weeks and only just starting to show a bit of interest. Am trying to hang off to 26 weeks as he has eczema and allergic to milk.
To anyone whose dc have had eczema/allergies have you gone by the advice of one food for a couple of days before introducing another, I did this with my first but i was hoping with Joshua as he will be 6 months to give him kind of what we are eating iyswim

Yay ? Pistachio. That?s great news. Well done you! Even if it?s really hard work, it?ll be great to have something to get your teeth into. I only retrained recently, and although it was hard-going (and before children) it was so rewarding.

Star ? I?m sorry, but I had to giggle at your testicle story. I shouldn?t laugh too much though, as I?ve had to call dh in a couple of times to confirm that ds?s bits are as they should be. I was completely shocked when I found out I was having a boy as I come from a family of girls and was utterly clueless!

Sorry to hear that some of us are struggling. I would definitely echo the advice to get help sooner rather than later. Although I don?t think it?s actual pnd, I?ve been a bit tearful and useless this week. In my case I think it?s just tiredness. It was a real relief to go for coffee with some other mums of similar aged babies today and find out that they were also completely knackered too. In fact, I?m off to bed in a bit, as soon as I?ve finished eating my gu. Yum!

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/03/2009 20:38

jrsqueak - ds is milk intolerant and has (broadly speaking) what we have. Dd was only intolerant to milk, so I am crossing my fingers that ds will be the same.

Congrats pistachio on NCT thing.

Sorry, haven't taken in much else, as a bit pre-occupied. We had a fire today and our shed burnt down, our new patio is ruined, our bedroom windows are all cracked (outer pane of double glazing), guttering is melted, and our new v expensive cafe style doors have possibly warped too. Dh was at home and we had 2 fire engines in attendance. Entire contents of shed (bikes, fridge, freezer, all dh's tools in wheely cabinet, airconditioning unit, posh garden parasol etc etc) are no more - just a mass of ash and bits of metal.
We are just so thankful that we moved our oil tank in the building works a couple of months ago, as that was butting up against the shed until then, and it would prob have blown up our entire house and next door's if that had gone up.

OP posts:
aubergenie · 27/03/2009 20:50

Oh CSWS - that's awful. Thank god you had that tank moved, or it really doesn't bear thinking about. Sorry to hear about all the damage, but I'm glad you're all OK. You must be feeling really shaky. Any idea what started it?

Sorry to hear that csws How scary! Glad you are all ok, though.

Pistacho - congrats!!!
Yay Myjob for swimming!
Aubergenie - glad someone else is clueless about boys' bits, too
pepper - yes, there were 2 testicles there. one was just raised up because it was cold and sticking out a bit. DH offered to "show" me how men can actually move them... but I declined that glamorous offer. Not a nice thought. I can't see them now when I last changed his nappy, so they must be hiding again.

We've been laughing about this all day long! At the time, i was so scared I couldn't breathe, but now that I know what it is, I'm just laughing so hard!

MM dont worry over tummy time! I hear some babies like it and some don't. I think it is important that babies crawl... as a teacher, I've noticed over the years that kids who need OT almost always are kids who never crawled as babies... not to say that ALL babies who don't crawl need this later on. Not at ALL! Q hates tummy time with me... but does it with my friend and with DH!

Marthasmama · 27/03/2009 21:16

CSWS - See what happens when you go out. Clearly everything just falls apart . I'm so glad you're all ok. How is dd? Has it affected her at all? Fire is so so scary.

Aubergenie - how's your friend and your sister's best friend doing now? I was thinking about them both the other day. Has your friend started chemo or had her op yet?

Star - I am going to continue torturing trying her with tummy time as I want her to be able to get around sooner rather than later. Apparently it helps them develop depth perception . She does try to get up on her knees when she is on her tummy and pushes herself along with her feet a bit, it's just the upper body strength that's lacking.

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/03/2009 21:17

They think it was electrical aubergenie (we had fridge and freezer out there).
I bloody hope that insurance covers it all, but after checking a few bits of our policy and talking to my mum I'm now more worried than I was about whether the full amount will be covered.

OP posts:
ronshar · 27/03/2009 21:31

CSWS, how scarey for you all. Insurance companies are a nightmare. Lets hope you are covered ok.

It is very important that babies crawl before walking. DD1 didnt. She has only just learnt to catch a ball properly. Dont ask her to play tennis! It is all to do with the fine/gross motor skills. If the child doesnt learn the coordination necessary to crawl it can have a long term effect upon there physical and mental development. I found out the hard way after I was so proud of my 8 month old girl walking around.
William is def going to be a crawler. He is nearly there already.

Star I still find the boy bits a little bit strange

ronshar · 27/03/2009 21:33

Jrsqueak, I have given William everything apart from Gluten and milk products. HTH
