Just a quickie as off to playgroup and out for the day.

Thank you ronshar and loulou and please say what you think you are being very helpful.

I do also tell people to write things down (just did this to my sis recently as she seems to be having depression) but I am a bugger for listening to my own advice but I will do it as what you say sounds really helpfull.

Will have another read later. Dont want you tho think I am being rude not replying to that as its really helpful, just got to get out the door

thank you and will look again later.
You are all great and been really helpful

aubergenie · 24/03/2009 09:17

Jenwa - Really sorry to hear you're having to deal with all this. Horrible. And in front of your kids too. You've had some great advice already, so I won't repeat that. Just sad for you.

Star - Choking sounds terrifying. I've been trying to find a first aid course recently but was just looking at children's centres, so thanks for that link MM.

We've got a really strange smell in our bedroom at the moment - like burning plastic. It smells like it could be under the floor and comes and goes. We all had to decamp to the living room last night, and we're going to take some floorboards up today. I think I'm going to call the gas board as well to check it's not some weird gas thing.

Marthasmama · 24/03/2009 09:24

Right off to get my haircut, wish me luck! M has gone back to sleep in her cot for the first time ever! Typical, I can't get some more kip myself as we have to get going. Cheeky little monkey! I am really dreading having it cut as I won't have long hair to hide my fat face behind anymore. But I am sick of finding hair everywhere, the final straw was finding a huge clump in M's nappy that had been all the way through!

See you later ladies......

Honeymoonmummy · 24/03/2009 13:34

Re first aid courses, St johns Ambulance do a free first aid for babies course in our area, they probably do it nationwide, they are based in one of our local hospitals. DH did it but I had to cancel mine because it was 2 hours in the evening for 3 weeks and it was too soon to leave Poppy. DH said he'd get a basic first aid book first, read it, then when you go you can put it into practice and it sinks in better.

Hurrah! My hair looks much better and makes me look thinner in the face. No Myjob- no pictures, as I am looking too fat, old and tired and the moment. It's pretty much the same as on my profile picture on FB (once I change it, so it will be the same), only I look much better in that old pic! I want to get some professional pics of M but she's too eczema-ridden and scratches herself too much.

I think I was sitting next to a MNer at the hair-dressers. I have seen her profile pics as she is local to me and things she was saying added up. I was too scared to ask her though . I'm going to ask the MNer if it was her. It would be funny if it was her!!

Ekka · 24/03/2009 16:58

Jenwa, so sorry to hear about all your family troubles. I can't offer much advice, but really feel for you.

So, Matthew is now 5 months, but we got him weighed today and he's only put on 3oz in 2 weeks, now he's 13lb 14oz. He's dropped from the 50th centile to somewhere between the 9th and 2nd centiles over the past couple of months. Plus the glands are up on his neck and he also has a lump under his right arm which the doctor reckons is another lymph gland. The dairy free didn't seem to make any difference to his eczema sadly, but the doctor reckons there may be a skin infection... He has given us AB's for a week to see if that helps & said if it doesn't he'd give us a paediatrician referral. That was before we found out his weight, so I'm going to have a phone consultation with the doctor tomorrow and ask for the referral anyway because I'm worried about these glands and the fact that despite his 2-hourly feeding he just doesn't seem to be gaining much. Its driving me up the wall! HV isn't keen on early weaning because of his eczema and the history of asthma in our family, and formula top ups are also off the list for those reasons..... Bless her, she told me to put my feet up and rest! She hasn't seen dd recently or she would realise how funny that concept is .

I'm afraid I'm breaking ranks on the dairy free as there really was no improvement, so we're back to square one....

Still, its my 30th birthday next week, so at least I've got something to look forward to - though I'm not entirely sure dh has thought of any presents, I may need to make some suggestions

heather1980 · 24/03/2009 17:14

ekka, please don't worry about weight. dd 2.5 is on the 1st centile and you know what.....i don't care... not one jot. we never go to baby clinic, alex has never been in his life and dd since she was 5 months, i weight them on the bathroom scales.
i really don't get the obsession with weighing babies, it's not like we go to a clinic and weigh ourselves every week is it?

Hi all, think I'm gonna speak to the doc about PND - are there any adverse effects from having it on your medical records?? It's not that I'm ashamed of it by any means, there is a history of depression in the family, I just want to ensure it doesn't affect any jobs I get in the future, sickness insurance etc.

Marthasmama · 25/03/2009 08:04

Oh no hmm . Sorry you're feeling so down. It is important to get some help if any concerned about how you are feeling. From memory, you would need to declare it on a life cover/sickness cover application but you would be given space to explain that this was PND. You wouldn't normally be asked about family history of depression. I really don't know whether it would affect any future work prospects, but again you would be able to explain that you suffered PND. I was signed off work with depression before I quit as I hated the company and my job so much. I was also treated badly by the managers. I only had ten days off work so I know that it won't be a problem for me. I'm racking my brains to think who you could ask for a definative answer..... You could contact Mind who might be able to give you some guidance. Are you getting enough sleep? Sleep depravation can often trigger PND. I am convinced I had PND with DS and it's horrible. I got so angry with myself for feeling like I couldn't cope. I would sit outside in the garden when visitors came as I couldn't bear to sit and make small talk about DS. I started smoking again and just sat around all day doing nothing except look after DS as I couldn't get it together to go out. If I did go out I would be terrified that he would cry or wake up. I really hope you get some help and nip it in the bud quickly. Have you got a good network of friends that you can visit and rely on for some support? Very unMN but ((((((hugs))))))

Honeymoonmummy · 25/03/2009 08:13

Thanks MM . I don't know if I definitely have got PND, but I'm starting to have trouble sleeping even when Poppy's asleep so I need to do something about that as I need all the sleep I can get!!!

Marthasmama · 25/03/2009 08:19

I was just going to say 'are you getting some exercise as that helps you sleep'. Duh!!! Um, I'm sure you'd love to be able to exercise! It's not your poor rickety body keeping you awake is it?

jenwa · 25/03/2009 10:05

Hey all
My computer has been doing funny things

Thank you all for your kind words and advice. Thank you for taking the time to let me know what to do too.

I have a feeling my dad will ring me to apologise as my mum will have prob told him too. I did have a missed call yesterday from a witheld number so could have been him!

Need to sit and write a letter but dont seem to get chance to do it! I am just sure that if I do he will read it then apologise then go back to his ways but maybe writing it at least shows evidence I have done something and tried to tell him. Maybe I should tell him that I dont want to be around him when he is in that frame of mind and that I will not go round there with my children.

Will read back on what you have all put again when I do my letter as there is alot of useful advice and wording there, thank you

Just been to drs to book smear not a great thing to have done but needed.

myjob meant to say happy 6 months to N

mm glad you happy with the hair and I am sure you are not fat! And yes funny about the other MNetter!

ekka poor you thats awful, poor Matthew. i hope things get sorted as you dont want any more stress.

HM Poor you too. I dont thinks it MND Prob just you be fed up and tired and a change in diet etc. The achnyness is horrible too. I suffer with back probs and its horrible and just trying to get comfy can be a pain! I found exercise did help me but just gentle stuff as is kept me from getting stiff.
Hope everyone is having a nice day.
I am going to attempt house work but not much point when the ceiling is going to be plastered tomorrow and the furniture is stacked up high

Marthasmama · 25/03/2009 10:16

I booked a smear too Jenwa. It's on Monday, yay . I am very naughty though as it's been a long time since my last one . I booked it, they cancelled it then never answered the phone to let me re-book it.

jenwa · 25/03/2009 10:57

Its been over 3 yrs since my last one !

Ekka · 25/03/2009 12:56

I've also got a smear booked - they wanted me to go on Monday but thats my 30th b-day so its on tuesday instead

HMM - I hope you can start sleeping soon, its hard work looking after little ones without added sleep deprivation.

Myjob - good to hear about Naomi, bless her she is absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't be too worried about Matthew's weight if it wasn't for all his glands being up, which makes me concerned there may be something we're missing. But hey, I always stress over those type of things

Must go & get lunch, but ds is asleep on my knee & dd is napping so I really don't want to wake anyone!

myjob smears never really bothered me either, just getting around to having it done really. My sis has never had one so had a firm word with her the other day!

ekka hope you get things sorted with Matther. Just keep on at them as it will worry you otherwise.

I was thinking that MyJob.

MM no it's not so much my body as my mind keeping me awake.

The doc I want to see isn't in today so I'll go tomorrow.

Thanks for your kind words folks.

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/03/2009 16:04

lol - I was just having a read and there you are all worried about me!

Was going to catch up last night, but couldn't face reading the squished up stuff. Thankfully it seems that tech has fixed it today - phew!

Anyway, only have a min at the mo - need to prep veggies before dh and dc get back from school pick up.

Ds not sleeping as well as those few lucky days, so we still haven't found a magic formula it seems. Not quite as bad as he was though.

Will hopefully read again and catch up properly later.

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 25/03/2009 16:21

Afternoon all,
HMM sorry you're having a rough time, going to the doctor is the best thing so good luck for tomorrow.
myjob - wrong calls are soooo annoying, we're one digit away from the local taxi firm, so we get stupid drunk people who can't read numbers in a striaght line calling at ungodly hours. They only do it once though....
CSWS - I wasn't worried!
Enjoy your smears ladies - I've got at least a year before my next one thank goodness.
We've been to the doctors today (just for a change!) DS2 woke up with a really sore willy so he's on antibiotics now, something called balanitis? It's a boy thing apparently, poor poppet seems brighter this afternoon, even if walking with large amounts of sudocrem down your pants can't be easy
ekka - poor Matthew, hope you get it all sorted out soon - definitely push for a referral.
MM - how's the swishy hair today?
jenwa saw your fb update - yuck!
I;m going out tonight (hopefully) for my re-scheduled French restaurant trip with the girls - hurray!

Marthasmama · 25/03/2009 16:57

Oh no Pepper! Poor DS! He's in the wars isn't he? Ouch to the balanitis. How old is he? My DS is 5.5 and would die of if he had to show his 'wink' to a doctor. Have a good night out. Oh and hair is a bit flat today as M is so grumpy that I haven't been allowed to put her down!

Hmm - Yes, you are doing the right thing. Good luck tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you.

Ekka - DS's lmyph nodes on his neck are perminantly lumpy. We've taken him to the doctor a few times and they have said not to worry. He's very skinny but five years older than Matthew, so he'd be able to tell me if something was wrong. He also had terrible eczema when he was 5/6 months but it cleared up by the time he was a year. We tried everything incluing goat's milk formula (oh God it was horrible!) but he eventually grew out of it. His cheeks were weeping and pusy over his first Christmas. I hope you get the poor little mite sorted out soon. The eczema is so hard, especially when all they want to do is scratch.

M is in a foul mood today. I've got to get DS from after school club soon (he goes to see his friends before you accuse me of being lazy ) and M is still asleep. I don't want to wake her or she'll be all grumpy again.
