Is there a non-evil biscuit, csws? I haven't looked at any... couldn't find them in the shop today. Maybe I'll just give him a banana in one of those netted food things... have you seen what Im talking about. It has a handle and a little net that you put the food in... I think the baby sucks the food out of hte holes?

aubergenie · 17/03/2009 20:50

Could you give Q a rice cake to nibble on instead of a biscuit? I think you can get ones with no salt in. Are they dairy-free though? CSWS??

I know what you mean about slumping forward CSWS. I bought a kind of inflatable thing that goes in the back of the chair to support ds' back till he's a bit stronger.

Oh, soooooo tired. I think I might have to go to bed in a minute.

aubergenie · 17/03/2009 20:53

Do you mean one of these? Star?

BTW - Those who are giving solids already, are you also giving water to you LOs or just milk?

aubergenie · 17/03/2009 20:57

Sorry - I meant to ask Star. If you've got one of those things, are they any good?

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/03/2009 21:02

Yes, rice cakes dairy free. They're pretty much just brown rice, and get my seal of approval . I must buy some actually!
Organix is generally a good make to look out for star - lots of products without lots of crap in them (though some still contain dairy).
You could just give him a banana to eat without a feeder, but if you want to use one of them then I can see that they look in some senses like a good idea. Perhaps you could eat your dinner through a dishcloth or a pair of tights to give you some idea of what it's like .

I got the inflatable thing too aubergenie. Tried it in the store and seemed like a good idea, but somehow hasn't worked quite the same at home! Ah well, I don't need to worry about it now.

No water given as yet.

Oh bugger, ds awake again. He was awake as much as asleep last night. Sounds like tonight will be just as much fun . Having food certainly hasn't made any improvement to his sleep. I think he just doesn't have a clue how to resettle himself without a feed.

I think that I'm too young for the texture of an oatcake .

OP posts:
SmudgeyDoodle · 17/03/2009 22:00

LOL at image of eating a banana through a dishcloth. I reckon DD would be right up for that. I found her this morning sucking her thumb through a muslin! We had our best night ever last night (sorry purpleflower, it must have been our turn for some sleep). DD only woke at 2.45 and 6 and stayed in her own bed til 6. She's had her last lot of needles today though so I think that will be a one off. Glad you had people to visit pepper. It's lovely t ohave friends who are happy to see you spots and all!
Been looking at houses again and have found one we quite like. Not perfect but then I think we have to accept that we can't afford what we would like to have. Anyone know what it's okay to offer? house been on market 4 months at the same price. They had a 'silly' (according to estate agent) offer at beginning of Feb but that's it. House is on at £150k - you reckon too cheeky to offer £135? Any help or advice gladly accepted

SmudgeyDoodle · 17/03/2009 22:01

PS I love the texture of oatcakes. I also love Ryvita and rice cakes though so maybe I'm just a bit odd

star6 · 18/03/2009 05:06

ROFL at eating through tights/dishcloth csws!
ok, decided they are a waste of money!
I read somewhere that water causes brain swelling (?) so have been scared to give water! But I will use it in the cereal in a few hours... boiling some now.

star6 · 18/03/2009 05:07

Rice cake is a great idea! But would he choke on it?

aubergenie · 18/03/2009 08:32

Ha! I think ds would be up for sucking some fruit through one of those things too. My friend was wearing a really rough woolly scarf the other day and he couldn't get enough of it in his mouth.

BTW - If anyone does want on of those feeding things, they've got them on ebay for about a fiver.

You can get special baby rice cakes Star. I don't know whether they would be better. I'll step out of the weaning discussion now as I have no idea what I'm on about.

Smodgey - I would say that if it's been on the market for that long, you might even be able to make a starting offer of 130k but be prepared to up it a bit. The estate agent has to pass it on to the vendor, however cheeky it is.

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/03/2009 08:41

Unlikely star. If bits unexpectedly get to the back of his throat then he may gag a little, but that is an important part of the learning process. They tend to go pretty soggy once they've sucked on them for a while anyway.

I had 6 hours sleep last night - woohoo! Gave ds gripe water when he was screaming at 9:15, and he calmed down (in fact he did a big burp just before I gave him the gw). I figured I'd try the dream feed thing at 10:30, but he didn't stir even when I thrust my nipple at him, so I gave up. He then didn't wake til 1:30, and then slept again from 1:50 til 5:40 .

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/03/2009 08:44

Oh yes, £130-£135 not an unreasonable starting offer IMO. Depends how desperate they are to move as to whether they will consider it or not.

OP posts:
star6 · 18/03/2009 08:50

£130?!? WOW! Where???

star6 · 18/03/2009 08:51

OH! Just looked at profile... never mind. Sorry, forgot I could do that. We can't even bear the thought of how much we might get (not get) for ours when we sell it!

purpleflower · 18/03/2009 09:48

Morning,

We had slightly better sleep, just a shame DS climbed into our bed and decided he didn't want me in there so tried pushing me out

I gave DD some mashed banana yesterday and she loved it but I tried her with some veg later on and she really wasn't too interested. I'm going to give her some baby rice in a minute and see what she makes of it.

Thanks for that high chair link aubergenie but I need something that folds down ideally and Ikea is quite a way away for us I think.

I think £130k is very reasonable to start on Smudgey. TBH I would probably start at £125k but then I'm really cheeky lol. If you don't ask you don't get

star6 · 18/03/2009 10:16

Banana cereal a BIG HIT!!! SOOO Much nicer than stinky baby rice!! No more rice. Just cereal and maybe I'll try a fruit! This is so much fun!! I know I'm 2 weeks early of 6 months, but who cares.... it's close enough!!!

Wow - great news on the sleeping babies. Hopefully we'll all get there over the next few weeks. DD had too much of an exciting afternoon today and didn't sleep from about 1pm. I decided at 6pm that she was going to fall asleep when she next fed so put her in her jimjams ready - 6.20 sparko!!
Thanks for the reassurances re offers on house. Those of you in expensive areas, just to make you really sick, it's a 4 bedroom house! It is very close to the A1 though and there are other down sides but we are currently weighing them all up. Went to look at a local school today and were happy with it which is another plus.
Sounds like lots of you are having fun with foods. I think A would give it a go now but I want her to wait a bit as she seems to have sensitive skin so just in case.... Myjob as far as I know, once 6 months, the only thing they can't have is honey (something to do with a virus/bug that is sometimes present) You also have to be careful with making sure egg is cooked so don't let N lick the spoon when you're cooking We have finally got the referral appointment through for A's eye (infections for first 6 weeks) so I'm braving the hospital with 2 of them tomorrow. I'm fairly sure they'll say, everything is fine, why are you wasting our time but I want that reassurance. Anyone know if they are being treated for Mother's Day? My Mum is coming up so I reckon DH should cook lunch.

jenwa · 18/03/2009 20:45

Hey all
I wont be far from going to bed, had a naff sleep last night, think its because I had 2 glasses of wine and it kept me awake! then both DDs woke after 6

Thank you for your messages, yes feel better now after having chat with DH and all ok.

myjob Hearing is pants and cant do anything to make it better gets me down alot and the thought of returning to work is making me miserable too, I am much happier at home with DDs to keep me occupied and not having to explain my situation to everyone . Dont mind telling you all, feel like you know everything else about me also not RL and dont get so embarassed to say it on here

Glad all babies eating well, DD2 not been well so only been having milk again as she has had sickness and diarrhoea she still had yucky nappies today but gave her a small amount of baby rice. She may be teething???? I cant starve her and she seems to take just what she wants and no more. Been leaving 2-3 ounces of 7oz bottles. Should I carry on with the rice again do you think? What time do you all give rice etc? I have been giving it at around her 3pm feed.

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/03/2009 20:52

Myjob, iirc it's no blue cheese or whole or chopped nuts (choking hazard) until 1, plus honey as smudgey mentions (it's a form of botulism that isn't killed off even by cooking), but otherwise pretty much anything goes, unless you're being wary of allergies.
