Hi all, I'm feeling quite left out with all these exciting weaning stories as Poppy is just 19 weeks today!!

I went on a weaning course the other week and i'm sure they advised it was best to avoid dairy products before 12 months? It's OK to have it in ingredients but not on it's own? I don't think it was specific to allergies. I'll root out the info. Sorry if I missed that part of the conversation, I've not been around much recently!

CSWS, sorry to hear about your April baby . I didn't know that about mineral water, we been still using Evian for the gaviscon even after our water was tested and found to be fine.

Poppy is asleep and I'm gonna join her (well not in the cot itself, obviously!), I feel about 100 years old after 2 very busy days!!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/03/2009 06:59

Milk is just not suitable as a main drink until a year hmm, but it's fine to use from 6 months. This is often the time when people discover that they are allergic!

myjob going back in July so still afew months. I am really praying that DHS buisness takes off and I can be a SAHM

Can you remind me then, If dd2 having baby rice at 3 ish should I switch this to about 430 and make it dinner? And do you give milk before breakfast in the morning or after? I always thought it was after so they eventually dropped the milk but just dont remember
csws when you say milk is suitable from 6 onths do you mean in things rather than a drink? That I also dont remember, I am sure I gave DD1 cows milk at 1. I remember putting milk in her beaker and she refussed to drink it from htat but I am sure that was formula as was still weaning then.
myjob where has the time gone. 6months how scary is that! Will they sleep well in the same room? I am lucky our childrens bedrooms are really far away from each other (not that we have a massive house its just the layout!

csws congrats on your better sleep

jenwa · 19/03/2009 08:23

myjob sorry meant to say also that the pate is ok to give as it was avoided in pregnancy due to vit D as causing deformities but too be honest I think it is way too rich to give to babies anyway so on that basis I would not give, dont even think DD1 has had it, she has a dodgy tummy after a sausage roll !

star6 · 19/03/2009 08:28

how many days after you start cereal once a day can you give it twice or cereal once and a fruit or veg the other time and then how long until 3 times? I don't get this. he had cereal twice yesterday b/c I just feel like he's hungrier than just for milk.

Marthasmama · 19/03/2009 09:17

Hello all, long time no see! I've given up on the weaning until M is 6 months as she has totally lost interest. She's becoming really easily distracted and won't stay on the boob for long before craning her neck round to look at stuff. We have had a couple of firsts though. At the weekend she finally laughed for the first time, I've had a few proper baby kisses and some baby cuddles. So although she's rubbish at the physical stuff she's getting on well with the social development.

Jenwa - I too am considering the SAHM idea but don't know if I fancy getting dh's dinner on the table. I was the residential feminist philosopher at uni so am finding the idea difficult!

Myjob - M's room isn't even finished yet so she will still be in with us past 6 months . Her room is at the opposite corner of upstairs so seems miles away .

Hmm - I'm not weaning yet as M seems to want boob rather than food and I'm fine with waiting. I am planning to BLW after all !

I doubt I'll be adding to my family as I have a third massive ovarian cyst so ovary will have to come out . I need to have the CA125 blood test again (had one when I was pregnant that was scary) to make sure it's nothing to worry about. It's great fun being a women eh?

I'll catch up with all the other posts later.....

Oh CSWS - good news about the sleep. I think M has taken over as champion non-sleeping baby. She's been up every hour through the night for the past four nights!

Marthasmama · 19/03/2009 09:21

Oh and I LOVE oatcakes. They're delicious little devils and M did enjoy her taste of one.

heather1980 · 19/03/2009 09:54

morning, lol at all your weaning.
alex is 22 weeks and we're holding off on the weaning for a few more weeks yet, but i did give him some banana yesterday. he bit some off chewed it and then spat it out. i only gave him some coz dd had one and he was grabbing at it.

Honeymoonmummy · 19/03/2009 11:58

Sorry to hear about cyst MM. Did that come out from a smear test?

Is anyone else on Pampers babydry? Cos I'm finding them anything but!! Just moved on from the Newborn range and they leak loads and she stinks of wee all the time!! Gonna try Active fit instead...

I'm having a day in bed today apart from weigh-in, I'm soooo achey It's really starting to affect my enjoyment of my time off.

I've enrolled for the summer term with Puddle Ducks today, should be fun!!!

Marthasmama · 19/03/2009 12:05

Hmm - No not from a smear, I've had them before so I know what to look for. Plus the huge lump in my tummy which hurt my right side when I moved it was a big give away . Sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish . I use active fit as they are softer but I have just finishing cleaning a huge explosive poo which escaped from an active fit.....

When I spoke to my doctor he seemed to think I was taking rubbish when I said I'd not had a period since M was born. I explained that I was exclusively bfing and that M still fed through the night but he still seemed not to believe me.

Hey there
Thank you myjob will think about breakfast too Dont worry about the swimming, I know you will and I would too but I am sure everyone will be more interested in N , I think if anyone looks at my tummy I will directly say "are you looking at me to see if I have lost my baby weight"??? that will stun them!

MM Sorry about your lump, sorry as now realised what my FB status said and that not fair for you , hope it gets sorted soon. Can they not just remove cyst or is it because you have had them before they want to remove ovary? What a weird Dr too! Why would you lie! Doh!

HM Sorry your still achy, that is not fun for you , hope youwill be ok doing the puddle ducks, sounds fun.

DD1 not well, been hot today and crying lots and shivering so she went back to bed which is totally unheard of she not herself and has poorly breath too! Not a great day in my house today she has been miserable and we went to see my gran who is wasting away

Sun is fab though and does make everything seem a little better.

Marthasmama · 19/03/2009 17:01

Oh don't worry Jenwa , I had a cyst with both pregnancies so that ovary has always been dodgy. I've been told that they will probably want to remove the it as the cyst keeps coming back and I need an op every time to remove it. I know exactly what you mean about ill breath. That's the best indicator for us that DS is ill as even with measles he was jumping about. Poor DD and poor Gran.

Thank you myjob - I'm sure nobody will even notice that 10lbs you've still got. You're so tiny anyway that it's probably only you that sees it. M is going swimming with dh at Easter when he's home for two weeks. I can't wait...!

Evening all,
I have to confess I don't do swimming. I love it but strictly child free since a hideous incident involving parking, a lifeguard, DS1, the pool tannoy and culminating in my knickers falling on the floor as I rummaged round in my locker for my car keys, while looking fat and wet in a swimsuit. The lifeguard turned out to be my next door neighbours 18 yr old son .
Anyway jenwa I hope DD gets better soon, and mm sorry to hear about your cyst, sounds painful.
hmm I had a back massage last week that helped with my constant shoulder/back ache - could you treat yourself or is the osteo working on it?
I use Huggies (stay dry?) not the natural fit ones and they've been fine. Used to use Pampers on DS1 but defected with DS2 and prefer Huggies now.
We're having fish and chips tonight
I was supposed to be going out for a girly night to a french restaurant but it got postponed. Takeaway is the next best thing!

star6 · 19/03/2009 20:23

We gave Q a slice of pear (which he sucked/gnawed on) and the rest of the pear pureed tonight before his bf. He LOVED it!!! Just pear, organic, pureed. I hope this was ok... Been looking at annabel karmel's website. I am going to try to get one of her books! There are a few things on the site though for now. It's great

Pepper - I can imagine that would be enough to put anyone off swimming, for a while at least. I won't go swimming again until I fit into my swimming costume without bits bulging out. I could probably only fit one boob in it at the moment so I think I'm going to have to wait. I'm dieting but my mum bought round a lasagne to share tonight. Why do Italian women always want to feed everyone?!

I am going to miss lovely breast fed poo. DH thinks I'm strange but I think it smells lovely .

Myjob - Hee hee at wonky boobs. I breast fed DS until he was 7 months, except righty gave up after 4 months. I was walking round like a fiddler crab with one enormous boob and one regular one for three months!

Does anyone know if strawberries are ok yet? I only ask as I know they are well known for triggering allegric symptoms. Irrc one has to remove the seeds before giving them to babies but I don't remember if there is a lower age limit.

SmudgeyDoodle · 19/03/2009 21:41

Pepperrabit - sounds intriguing about lifeguards and knickers I really like swimming too but I hate the getting dried and dressed bit after. I usually send DH with DS on a Sat but think I'm going to have to brave it for a bit as it's too much for him to take A too.
Marthasmama - I'm not sure about seeds and strawberries. It sounds a right PITA to remove them so I reckon I'd just wait til baby is 6 months and then they can have it fine. Actually, I'd prob wait a bit longer til Strawbs are in season and much yummier
We use huggies for DS because he leaked out of pampers from quite early on but DD is fine in the active fit. I think huggies are good for rounder bellies as the stretchy bit at the back keeps the poo in there. Whoever said about b/f poo smelling nice - I sort of agree. Not something I'd admit to in real life though!
DD eye appointment went as I thought. They looked at me a bit strangely as she sat on my knee, all wide eyed, looking around her. They did do a quick check though so I feel reassured.
Star- glad Q is enjoying food. It's exciting to try them with different things isn't it? I reckon DD would have had a good go at my Chorley cake this evening. No chance missus!

star6 · 20/03/2009 05:05

mm sorry about cyst. what a pain!
jenwa i hope today is nicer for you and that P is happy / healthy
good luck swimming today myjob, Im sure you will look fab! everyone will be staring at the babies anyway
I hope the meal made up for french restaurant pepper
thanks smudgey. No cakes for another 5 years

I think Im getting my period!!!!! AHHHH Q is still feeding the SAME amount and Im expressing the same amount. It makes NO SENSE! Its not a heave period (yet) in fact extremely light since last night. But Im so bummed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

star6 · 20/03/2009 05:19

heavy not heave!

jenwa · 20/03/2009 08:33

Hi All
Will get some pears today, think DD2 will like them.
DD1 woke up brighter, She slept til 6pm yesterday then went back to bed at 9 and woke up dreaming that our dog was on her bed and would not got off it. Settled her back and she slept til 7:30 and seems alot better but not sending her to playgroup as think she needs to stay home and dont want to spread any potential germs!.
star yuck to period, they are horrible and unfortuantly they can happen when you do BF .

Still not found a nappy that DD2 wont explode out of! DD1 had tescos ones and they were fab
but seems that when dd2 goes there is nothing that will stop it exploding out. I have however realised that changing her more often helps

mm I know what you mean about the smell, reminds me of cake mix

pepper oh thats sounds like a story to tell and hope you enjoyed your fish and chips.

myjob laughing at your wonky boobs! I am sure no one will notice though, they will prob think, phew, one hot mama coming in with big boobs
smudgy glad appt went well and you feel better for it.

My sis coming back from london for weekend as her b'day and for mothers day so DD1 will be sooooo excited.
Need to tidy house !
