Morning all! Nice to know I've been missed my absence was noted...

I think you all know where I stand on Poppy being left alone - she's pretty much not! Altho she is getting better, I got a super-duper new cot mobile (mothercare jungle animals one £5!) at the NCT sale and that is doing a good job of keeping her in her cot for 5-10 mins without screaming!

Am off for lunch with a friend soon then my second osteo appt is this afternoon... sad, I know, but I'm really looking forward to it, I just want to get back to normal!

I haven't mentioned this before because I thought you would all laugh at me, but we think Poppy has been saying "Hiya" since she was 3 months!!!!! DH has been saying it to her at bathtime since she was about a month old. I got it on film the other day, I'll put it on FB sometime. I know that sounds ridiculously early but apparently I started speaking at 3 months. She's not said anything else tho so maybe just sounds like Hiya.

ronshar · 13/03/2009 10:48

My DD1 is convinced William answered her the other day by saying yeah! I hope not, it should be yes not yeah.

William will roll around the floor given the chance. You put him down on his Fisher Price thing, come back in 5 mins and he is underneath the table!
We have teeth coming out. Wierdly it is the upper eye teeth. The pointy canine ones They are causing all kinds of problems. I have given William's first ever paracetamol this morning. Mostly so he could get a little sleep. It has worked for 45 mins and now he is awake again. Eating his toes in his cot. He obviously isnt as tired as me.

HMM. I am not pimping your beautiful girl. Just trying to help with the vomit situation. Honest. I double checked the cereal box and it isnt completely dairy free. It is made with follow on milk. It only needs water to make it into porridge. So ingnore me anyway
I firmly believe that everyone makes their own parenting choices and it isnt for anyone else to judge.

I am up for a trip to meet everyone else. And all the babies. We can watch while they roll around a pull each others ears

Honeymoonmummy · 13/03/2009 11:12

Wow, red nose emoticons! Cancel my lunch appointment!!!

Marthasmama · 13/03/2009 11:17

Indeed hmm, I started a thread about it!

aubergenie · 13/03/2009 11:28

at all the rolling babies. S can roll onto his side, but his arm gets in the way of him rolling any further.

I had a ridiculous night last night. My upstairs neighbours came home quite late and were hanging out of their bedroom window smoking. Their window is directly above ours and the smoke was coming into the bedroom, even though our window was shut (just shows how badly insulated our flat is). S was snoozing happily and I was lying there really worried that he was breathing in the smoke and was going to suffer a cot death because of it.
Once they'd gone to bed I got up and opened the window to air the bedroom out as it was stinking! I was thinking of saying something to them about it, but in the cold light of day it seems ridiculous to ask someone not to have a fag in their own home. I am going to have a word about them chucking their fag ends on my garden though.

CherryChoc · 13/03/2009 12:07

Myjob - yes that is the same cube. He loves the songs and things and is just starting to get big enough to turn it over by himself which is nice.

Aubergenie - it does fold up but doesn't go much smaller. It is quite compact when completely taken apart though and only took me about 5-10 minutes to set up (no screwdrivers etc needed) so it's not too bad. Its diameter is slightly wider than the width of a doorway, so takes up a little more space than a small clothes airer. I believe it's the smallest freestanding bouncer (looking at the hop n pop etc). We have got the tiniest front room ever though and it fits in a corner! It probably wouldn't had we not recently removed one of our sofas. I can post a pic if you want but you'll have to excuse the mess

aubergenie · 13/03/2009 16:03

Ha! You should see the state of our place Cherry! I was thinking it might be something that could be folded away at the end of the day rather than something that needs proper assembling. Thanks though.

I?ve just made a lovely, dairy-free chocolate mousse made with?..

Avocado! Absolutely yum. I?m going to test it on dp tonight (he doesn?t like avocado normally) and I bet he can?t guess what it?s made from. The oil in the avocado gives the mouth-feel that you get from the cream and egg in a normal chocolate mousse. Dead easy as well. It took about 5 mins. If anyone wants to know how to do it I?ll type up the recipe.

Marthasmama · 13/03/2009 16:15

I'm allergic to avocado. Sounds good though, I can imagine it would give good texture.

That's a very cute pic! She has loads of hair!!! Is Jessica the only nearly bald baby???? She still has the fine downy stuff from birth but with a bit of extra fluff.. she's doomed to be fluffy like me .
We had a marginally better night last night - I only got up 4 times and DH was able (with much moaning and groaning) to get up and help a couple of times. So his back is a little better.
Poor DD has some terrible terrible spots on her bottom and ladybits - they almost look like small ulcers, I'm slathering them in sudocrem at the mo (which a doctor friend recommended) and she did say they'd look awful before they got better. But she had her appetite back a bit today and drank a few bottles at last.
I've moved onto gin!
Tomorrow I've got a back massage booked - I am so excited and desperate for it that I could cry! How sad is that?
HMM - how was osteo?
Hello jrsqueak nice to hear from you (we have pox too).

Honeymoonmummy · 13/03/2009 20:28

Love the photo!

Ekka · 13/03/2009 20:40

Oooh, aubergenie I'd love the recipe if you have time to type it up!!!

Ronshar - here's the NCT 'schedule'.

At 6 months:
On waking - milk feed
Breakfast - baby rice mixed with usual milk & pureed fruit + milk feed
Lunch - milk feed
Tea - milk feed
Evening - milk feed

At 6.5 months
On waking - milk feed
Breakfast - baby rice mixed with usual milk & pureed fruit + milk feed
Lunch - Pureed veg/fruit + milk feed
Tea - milk feed
Evening - milk feed

At 7 months
On waking - milk feed
Breakfast - baby rice mixed with usual milk & pureed fruit + milk feed
Lunch - Pureed meat & veg + pureed fruit + drink of cooled boiled water
Tea - Pureed fruit/veg + milk feed
Before bed - milk feed

But they also say that mid-morning & mid-afternoon baby may want a milk feed & thats fine. Right up to 1 year, they suggest the milk feeds at breakfast, tea and bedtime, and on waking if thats what baby wants (though obviously the types & amounts of food suggested at the meals changes - I thought I wouldn't take up the whole thread typing it up . This was pretty much what worked for dd as she was in a steady feeding schedule.

With ds I reckon I'll be just giving him his usual feeds and starting with one feed & adding solids for a week or so then upping it to solids at 2 feeds, then at 3 feeds. Dd did just gradually cut down on the milk she took until she wasn't interested in feeding with/after her meals. In fact by the time she was 1 she was down to feeding on waking plus a feed mid-morning and a bedtime feed. But I have a feeling ds may be more stubborn about his milk.....

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/03/2009 20:58

Wow for canines already ronshar. Dd was nearly 2 when she got hers!

Yes please for recipe aubergenie.

Just took a look at the photo myjob. Go Naomi!

I don't like the new facebook. I can't work out how to get into my groups again!

OP posts:
Ekka · 13/03/2009 20:59

Sorry, that was a mammoth post and really, really dull!! But we don't have much exciting going on here at the moment (apart from pureeing lots of butternut squash!).

Pepper - Matthew has a fine down, but sadly the weepy bits are back on his head so most of it is covered in goo or plastered to his scalp so he looks pretty bald! Ouch for Jessica's spots, that sounds nasty. And am very about the gin - I love a good G&T

Myjob - love the pic of Naomi sitting, so cute! Matthew still gets a very wobbly head when he gets excited about anything and wobbles himself over before he gets at all balanced . I think he has a way to go on the sitting front!

aubergenie · 13/03/2009 21:51

Oooh G&T. I haven't had one of those for ages. Must get some gin in.

That weaning thingy was interesting Ekka. Thanks for typing that up.

The avocado mousse was a success. DP had no idea what it was made from. Even when I told him to guess (chickpeas??). I'm going to work on the recipe and adapt it slightly. I'm thinking it might be good with melted dark chocolate, but here's the one I used. The avocados need to be really ripe and squidgy. Like the ones they sell cheap on the market that are nearly going brown inside.

3 very ripe avocados
50g cocoa powder
50ml water
100ml maple syrup/agave syrup (a low GI, fructose alternative to sugar, available in health food shops. Also called agave nectar, I think)
I tablespoon of good vanilla essence

Throw the lot into a food processor/blender and whizz up until smooth.

I served it with some raspberries out of the freezer.

I keep crying at Comic Relief. All those poor babies with malaria. Awful.

Honeymoonmummy · 13/03/2009 21:57

I know what you mean aubergenie. I've been upset at comic relief before but I'm seeing it for the first time thro a mother's eyes. I feel very very very lucky right now.

Honeymoonmummy · 13/03/2009 21:57

star6 · 13/03/2009 22:29

can you have a glass of wine while breastfeeding? I'm even asking! Off to bed now... but just wondering if I could in the near future. I haven't at ALL since being pregnant/breastfeeding. Iknow there is no research to say it's harmful. Any to say that it's not harmful?

Honeymoonmummy · 13/03/2009 22:43

I don't know about the research Star but I'm tucking into my first sip of red wine in 2 weeks! I just buy the mini bottles and I've had a third of one of those tonight with a glass of water, I've never had more than 1/3 in a night. I'm sure that'll be OK, you can probably have more if you want!!

SmudgeyDoodle · 13/03/2009 23:04

Feel quite now as I've had about a third of a normal sized bottle of wine HMM. I go with my memory that I've read somehwere that the alcohol doesn't stay in your body long and only a tiny bit will get through in your milk. I'm sure I read that it's ok as long as you don't go totally over the top. Smudgy sticks her fingers in her ears as to anything else because I NEED that glass of wine on the odd evening!
I keep welling up from Red Nose Day too. One at the moment about 1 in 8 women in Africa dying in childbirth. What a scary statistic thinking how many were on our thread. 50/50 for babies living through it too.
Sobering thoughts ladies, sorry.

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/03/2009 07:39

I don't watch comic relief.

A bit of wine whilst bf is fine. If you search for posts from tiktok on the subject she has written plenty .

Thanks for recipe aubergenie.

Honeymoonmummy · 14/03/2009 08:55

I'm sure that'll be fine Smudgey, you can take your fingers out of your ears now - or indeed, open your eyes!!!

I saw that re childbirth too, scary. I had to turn it over when that baby had breathing difficulties.

Poppy slept for over 11 hours straight last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She has a cold tho which prob explains why.
