MaggieTulliver · 14/06/2009 17:09

hello all.

Busy weekend here. We have just bought two guinea pigs today, DDs both very excited.

Indith · 14/06/2009 20:25

Worth asking AQ, hypermobility doesn't really seem to be something that gets considered. We are all bloody hypermobile and get varying degrees of problems.

I left him on the train Dd was finally getting attached to a cuddly, she would turn him around until she found the label and I left it on the bloody train and nobody has handed it in

Dd is broken, she is even worse at sleep than before. She has stopped sleeping on her front. On the plus side she will now go to sleep without too much fuss with someone beside her but she wakes several times through the evening and shed loads at night France was so hot and muggy that she gave up feeding much during the day, I think it was just too stikcy and horrible for her and she didn't like being so close for feeding as it was even hotter so she fed at night instead

MaggieTulliver · 14/06/2009 20:44

Indith. There is one on ebay at the moment but looks quite expensive.

Olihan · 14/06/2009 21:42

Oh Indith, poor Dd and even more poor you. Holidays and changes in weather always mess up ds2's sleep. No advice except it will pass . Honest .

Maggie, I bet they're really cute, are they babies?

AQ, how's dh now? Have you reminded him you've given birth 3 times, including twins and a cs, iirc? Lots of my freinds' dh's are having it/just had it but dh can't yet as he's too young . So contraception is up to me for a good few years yet. .

LenniEd, sorry dh is being a numpty. I have to admit to ROFLing at the image of him being peed on for fannying around for too long. That'll learn him . Maybe you going back to work will open his eyes a bit.

Two more cakes to go and I'm done for a while. I'm going to investigate what I need to do to set up formally as a business and how much it's likely to cost. If it's just a matter of registering with the HSE and doing the relevant food hygiene course then I'll do it. The novelty/kids cakes that I do aren't hugely profitable, the real money is in wedding cakes and, to a certain extent, christening cakes. I haven't really got enough skills to do wedding cakes just yet so I don't really want to have to shell out masses of money to get started, iyswim. We'll see.

Ds2 has been dry at night for weeks now but the last 5 nights has wet the bed at about 5am and therefore been up from then. Plus a wake up at about midnight and 3am. Needless to say he's back in nappies at night again for a bit. His eczema has gone crazy in the warm weather too. It's from the small of his back right down to his feet and then all down both arms and hands. I really thought we'd seen the worst of it off once I worked out the washing powder link but it seems not. Poor boy is so 'scratchy' as he says and he's drawing blood in places.

But on the plus side he's realised dh is a good guy and actually let dh settle him in the middle of the night for the first time in, oooh, 6 months at least. I can just about cope with early mornings if I haven't been up during the night too.

LenniEd · 14/06/2009 22:36

Indith poor DD - we had a near miss today with DS's doudou, rescued thankfully. Sleep sounds dreadful - I'll stop moaning about DS immediately.

Oli - I went to a party today which was attended by the woman who runs this business might be worth looking at on the wedding cake side. I think there is a trend away from the traditional for wedding cakes atm.

Better go - DS calling...

Olihan · 14/06/2009 23:40

I'm practising making cupcakes atm, LenniEd . It's definitely a big trend in wedding cakes, in fact I've got a provisional order in for next June for a wedding cake and cupcakes were mentioned for that. It's a whole different range of techniques and icings to decorate them so I think school and preschool will be inundated with cupcakes while I perfect what I'm doing!

jabberwocky · 15/06/2009 03:26

oli, the cakes are absolutely stunning!! You are quite the artist

LenniEd, grrr on your behalf. I agree with letting dh have the kids for a day. Also had a giggle at the wee story

Indith, so sorry about the cuddly. That is tragic. Maybe it will still turn up.

I'm at how things will be at the office when I go in on Tuesday. My management style is decidedly different from the norm there so am wondering if anything will be said. I tend to delegate whatever I can and trust them to get on with it for the most part. On the plus side, the staff now adore me and want to work only for me

Indith · 15/06/2009 12:48
Olihan · 15/06/2009 13:17

You know what Indith, lack of sleep is a killer no matter how long it's been going on for so don't let me make you feel guilty for moaning. I didn'tmean to, I was empathising in a clumsy way .

Elibean · 15/06/2009 13:31

Only had time for quick scan, but cuddles and sympathy to Indith's dd and Oli's ds for lost doudous and scratchies, poor loves.

Am going slowly mad, not knowing whether we're moving or stuck for the next few years, waiting for surveyors and structural engineers to give their verdicts....beginning to find the stress a bit much. Am trying hard not to wish bad things on the neighbours, too

Both dds having hard time with sleep atm, either summer evening syndrome or picking up on their parents' stress!

Elibean · 15/06/2009 13:32

Oops, pressed 'post' too fast: IOW, agree with Oli - lack of sleep is killer at any time!

jabberwocky · 15/06/2009 15:54

oli, I meant to ask you if you have ever tried Aveeno? If it works I can send you some for your scratchy ds.

Olihan · 15/06/2009 16:00

We have something called Pure Potions which is made of olive oil, hemp and a few other organic bits and bobs which is great and doesn't aggravate it, unlike most of the emollients the gp prescribed. It keeps him soft but I think he needs a stronger steroid to get the inflammation under control for it to be as effective as it has been in the past. That's a really kind offer though, thank you .

MARGOsBeenDrinkingTea · 15/06/2009 16:26

Hello! Oli your cakes look very tasty. I made some caramel brownies from this months Prima mag. yum yum.

And I know you'll all laugh at me, but we opened dd2s birthday cards and presents this week (kept from December) mad? me?

castlesintheair · 15/06/2009 18:33

Margo, thou art truly mad. And you read Prima

Sorry about the house ishoos Eli. That sound's grim. Hope it goes your way Effing neighbours. My neighbour's builders are merrily chucking rubbish in our garden (attic being done) including a big sharp stone that punctured the paddling pool yesterday

Oli, sorry about scratchy DS and Indith, sorry about lost doudou and lack of sleep generally. Btw, Oli, you look fab. Saw your pix on FB

Back from a blissful 4 days, sans children, in Scotland and now I feel a eulogy coming on ... In fact, I have to stop going away altogether I think as I certainly do not like coming back

Olihan · 15/06/2009 21:39

Ooh, Castles you lucky thing . You more than deserve it though. Back to reality with a thump, though .

We had to miss a friend's 30th b'day party this weekend because PILs were away and are doing an overnight babysit this coming weekend (wedding) anyway. It looked like so much fun on the FB photos and I did wish momentarily that we were still footloose and fancy free again.

Hey ho.

Thanks for the compliments though .

Caramel brownies, Margo? Sounds yummy. Do share .

MARGOsBeenDrinkingTea · 15/06/2009 21:39

@ your neighbours Castles.

yeah yeah so I read Prima, but only for the arrow-word.

accessorizequeen · 15/06/2009 21:55

Prima. All lost on me, margo, you haven't lost any status in my book. I do like a bit of celeb trash now and again though.
oli, oh the photos of cakes, the one of the tent still my favourite, that was so sweet for your dh. Was trying to take photo of all 4 kids (we don't have one yet!) for father's day and failing so far, guess he'll just get a car.
dp fine with snip, he's just hurting a lot! He knew it was his turn for pain Still takes about 4 months to get the all clear...hmm.
castles, 4 days, sounds great, I wouldn't want to come back either.
lack of sleep is a killer, anything can be excused on those grounds imho. I have lady from local sleep clinic coming tomorrow to advise me. She just saw some friends of mine last week with dd same age as ds2, they said it was v.helpful but will be a long slog. Older they get the harder the habits fall I guess. I'm getting in there NOW as I am fed up with dd's constant wakeups although nowhere near as bad as indith's dd by the sound of it. I told her to f'ing go to sleep last night after being up for 2 hours and as dp sleepily commented, it did the trick !

accessorizequeen · 15/06/2009 21:56

ooops, dp will get a card not a car!!! Hope he's not reading this and getting hopeful...Nope, he's in the garage doing the sodding model boat AGAIN. Sigh.

Olihan · 15/06/2009 22:01

@ car for AQ's dh for Fther's day. You have very generous dcs .

LenniEd · 15/06/2009 22:42

AQ - you will have to tell me more about the snip's effects once he is back in working order. I plead with DH to have it sometimes but he is too young and he says it would put him off sex. I have a friend who's DH had it a few months ago - apparently he is now up to sexual marathons, which she says is the worst thing that ever happened to her

Anyway, sorry to lower the tone.

Indith, moan away - just think if our collective set of DCs had all slept we'd probably have fell out of touch several threads ago.

Eli - thoughts with you on house, hope you manage to escape the stress somehow.

1250 words of essay down - 2750 to go... by Wednesday. Oh shite.

DS rousing, must go. Night all.

Just had some bad news. My nephew and his wife went to a pre-natal appointment and no hearbeat They have a little girl who is 10 months younger than ds2 and this baby was due on New Year's Day.

The D&C is scheduled for in the morning. the doctor was very kind and said to wait would just be more traumatic.

MaggieTulliver · 16/06/2009 07:33

sorry, need to be quick but couldnt not post.

Jabber - your poor nephew & his wife. Devastating.

Indith · 16/06/2009 09:53

Jabber

Lennied hope the essay goes well. Is it wrong that even memories of attempting to get essays done on time don't put me off wanting to do a masters?

AQ I regularly tell dd to f'king sleep but it doesn't work

Ah to be without children.....well I was without them on Sunday but I was doing basic food hygiene so that doesn't count.

dd stole a bit of melon yesterday. That'll be BLW started then
