I got all brave and made us a new bug free thread...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Elibean · 27/04/2009 22:20

Jabber, meant to say, hope the Aveeno comes fast - horrid to be woken by eczema, for both of you

bebespain · 27/04/2009 23:02

Eli and Jabber ~ a big thanks for your positive vibes re my planned C~Sec It really does help. And good to hear your recovery was better Eli. With my first I felt lousy for ages and would hate to feel like that again, especially now I have DS1. I have an app with the anethetist on Thurs so shall tell him all my fears, let's hope he or she is a good listener...

Sorry to hear about DS2 and the eczema, Jabber, hope the Aveeno clears it up, it's great stuff isn't it

Castles ~ good you have a diagnosis. Will DS get extra support at school?

Have completed (much against my better judgement and a certain amount of pressure from DH )DS application form for a school place. I know in my heart of hearts he is far too young and I really don't want him to go in Sep. I'm pretty sure we won't get a place anyway as there are only 11 places and we only have 4 points out of a possible 6 but if by some freak we did then I don't know what I'll do....I think it would kill me to send DS to school at 2.9 months

Have been really naughty and just eaten 2 little praline chocs my sil brought from Germany, yummy and tasted divine but feel really bad now as they are definitely not part of my diet.

Infact I should really be in bed but have had a really strange energy burst

Ahh and DS sat on the toilet today on his trucks emblazoned booster seat. Great you may think apart from the fact that he wouldn't let me take his trousers off
....we'll get there in the end

jabberwocky · 28/04/2009 14:28

Aveeno is on its way and last night I slathered him down with cortizone +aloe cream. It must have helped b/c he slept through

bebe, I have to admit that ds2 has been going to a Mother's Day Out program 4 days a week from 8:30 until 3:00 since August. It's the only option with me working and dh unable to care for him full-time. I was a little when we started as ds1 was 3.4 before he did anything like that but ds2 loves it.

castlesintheair · 28/04/2009 18:44

bebespain, not proper school surely at 2.9 months? DD2 is starting nursery in September and I she can't wait.

Eli, treatment for dyspraxia is lots of motor skills exercises but it's a broad spectrum and depends on individual needs.
bebe, hopefully DS's statement can be amended to accommodate his needs.

Hurrah for good night Jabber!

Hola Amo!

Have to say, I'm not having a good day today! Am fed up with people's attitude "oh, but he's so clever" "you can't be good at everything" comments. Grr! Plus am riddled with guilt and worried about the expense/logistics nightmare. The joys of being a SN parent. No doubt tomorrow will be better .

Elibean · 28/04/2009 22:21

Thanks, Castles, for explanation - thought so, but wasn't sure. I can imagine the having to deal with silly attitudes part.. Here's wishing you strength for tomorrow. Speaking of which, how's the fainting/bleeding now? Really can't imagine having to cope with anything on top of that.

Jabber, hope you have a better night (aka hope ds has a better night) tonight!

Bebe, have to admit to inappropriate over the pralines - and I wouldn't worry over one small praline-slip: I can't begin to imagine pg without chocolate, so you're doing really well.

I went to pick dd1 up from after-school sports club today, and one of the Mums was in labour...found myself holding dd2's anxious paw with one hand, and supporting panting/groaning woman with the other, and phoning for an ambulance in between her (rapidly increasing) contractions. Would have been quite exciting, but the poor thing was terrified - she had a section booked for next week, as her last two ended in emergencies. Thankfully, the ambulance showed up just in time...I had to talk dd2 down tonight though (where that lady gone, mama? She shaking, like thith - dd makes her body quiver - me 'cared!).

I did like calling 999 though

bebespain · 28/04/2009 23:29

My energy burst continues...

jabber - glad to hear DS had a better night

castles - well its not proper school as in they do lots of playing etc but it is in terms of the full day 9-1 in the morning, lunch then back for a couple of hours in the afternoon There is no flexibility either and when I dropped off the app form today the Head said it wouldn´t be a problem if DS fell asleep in the afternoons I mean where is the sense in that, surely it would be better he stayed at home...? Anyway I could rant all day/night about this, but I won´t as it will bring about all the reasons for me hating disliking living here
Sorry you´ve had a bad day, you´re bound to be feelig all sorts of emotions at the moment,dn´t feel bad and here´s to a better one tomorrow

Wow Nurse Eli, sounds like you did a fantastic job, I would be completely useless in a situation lIke that and bless DD2, especially the "me cared" bit

Paid a high price for my praline slip (I conveniently forgot to mention it was accompanied by 3 chocolate biscuits) My blood sugar was through the roof this morning

castlesintheair · 30/04/2009 12:17

bebe, that is bonkers and something I have heard many times about Spain. Sorry you have no choice. Any news on repatriation?

Eli, we'll make a midwife out of you yet. Very impressed.

Fainting soaring into overdrive No doubt stress-related. I am looking forward to feeling better soon

bebespain · 30/04/2009 14:57

castles - bonkers exactly!! Its no wonder Spain comes almost last (except for Malta and Portugal) for school failure in Europe, the poor buggers must be so disaffected by the time they reach 16. I am putting all my hopes on not getting a place...No news on repatriation at the mo, last time we rowed talked about it DH was less keen so we mutually agreed not to talk about it until after the birth of DS2....
So sorry to hear about the fainting, you poor thing. It must be very worrying and no doubt stress is a big factor. Hope you soon feel like your normal self

Had Hospt app today, all is well apart from DS2 measuring almost 3kgs which they said is on the big side.(again) They will confirm CS date next time but I was happy when Gynae said they will try and get me to 39 weeks providing I don´t get too big - here´s hoping

Hope everybody is well

jabberwocky · 30/04/2009 23:35

castles, I didn't realize you had been fainting more

bebe, not much time left then! I know you are looking forward to it. I found that even with the sleep deprivation of a newborn and dealing with a toddler it was better than third trimester pregnancy.

Elibean · 01/05/2009 12:52

Castles re the fainting, what a nightmare. Must make menopause seem a tad more attractive, I'd think. How's the hunt for ds's tx going?

Midwife, me? I joked with the class teacher that I had no idea what I was doing, as I'd had two sections and never been through labour. She said she'd had four: we agreed that between us we could probably have operated, but midwifery would be way beyond us!

Mind you, I got brownie points for calling 999, 'cos she delivered her baby an hour later by emergency section...they're both well, phew

Bebe, thats a tough situation - having to accept bonkers or nothing. I took dd2 to her future nursery for 1.5 hours on Wed pm, and that seemed long to me - not to her, mind you

Elibean · 01/05/2009 12:55

How are things, Jabber? Has work calmed down at all?

Keep wondering how the US press is reacting to the whole 'flu thing, compared to here...

jabberwocky · 01/05/2009 17:38

Work is a little better...I think...

At least I'm not traveling quite as much atm.

Thanks for asking

at the baby episode. I'm a wreck at dealing with things like that.

The flu thing is in the news every day but it has to contend with the banking disaster, car company crisis and general economic woes so I don't know if it's getting the full media blow-up that would have happened in other times.

Oh, and the ongoing war news

LenniEd · 01/05/2009 23:16

Quick stop in before bed. Sorry to have vanished like that - our telephone line was damaged and then we went away so haven't had chance to get online. AQ and Indith I would like to meet you both too. I promise that if we can't organise it before we'll do it in the summer hols.

Will read through in the morning. Had a fantastic time btw. Back soon

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 02/05/2009 20:47

Well done Nurse Eli..it's good to know you'd be calm in a crisis. I'd have just mopped her brow.

How often are you fainting Castles?

Bebe - It's hard having to make a choice which goes againt all of your instincts. How much longer will it be until you're induced?

I have a job interview on Friday . One of my friends has applied for another job which I had my eye upon too. Which I'm sure goes to show the prospective employers that there is something wrong with our company.

jabberwocky · 02/05/2009 21:52

Indith, aren't you in Durham? Do you think you are near this MNer?

castlesintheair · 03/05/2009 11:12

Almost daily Margo Well done on interview. Hope it goes well for you.

LenniEd · 03/05/2009 15:40

Castles - definately nothing else to try? Sounds dreadful, and frightening. About DS, it sounds like you are doing exactly what any good parent would and getting the best for him. Ignore the dissenters, they are wrong. Dyspraxia is something I came across quite frequently. In my previous existence (did I have that life??? It is a vague memory) as a teacher I taught a boy with dypraxia - I taught him chemistry...

Good luck with your interview Margo - I hope you get to give them the proverbial upward fingers.

Eli when our house was struck by lightning I also liked calling 999 - glad to know who to call on in a crisis though

OP posts:
Elibean · 03/05/2009 20:59

LenniEd, was just thinking about you and hoping you'd had good time in Cornwall Welcome back! (I'll call you if I'm in a crisis then, am hopeless with my own of course....)

Castles, I can't believe they can let you go on just fainting day after day, thats awful...not sure what I think they should do, but something. Grrr.

Jabber, glad work quieter (in a good way) and think its probably much the same here, re news - noticed flu gone from last weekend's front page to about 4 pages back! Though my inside source (uncle, virologist) says its not spreading fast enough to be a virulent one, though autumn may be very different. HOpe they have a vaccine sorted by then, especially for my asthmatics..

Wahey on the job interview, Margo, am crossing all useful body parts in hope! Would you want/take it if you got it?

Nice weekend in Oxford at my Mum's, took dds to Natural History museum, parks...its so pretty atm. Just back, started wondering if we should consider a move to Oxford long-term....but even if I could cope with being in the same city as my mother, the thought of starting all over again getting to know people etc feels so daunting

LenniEd · 03/05/2009 22:05

Eli - I grew up just outside Oxford. It was a lovely place to grow up. And I love the Natural History museum - did you go in the small museum at the back with the shrunken heads? I took DH in there on our first trip to meet my Mum Glad you had a nice time - there are plenty of lovely towns and villages around Oxford that could put some distance between you and your Mum if you wanted it. Getting to know people is a lot easier with young children, you come across people more often ime anyway.

Holiday was lovely - stayed at Bosinver after reading all the good reviews on here. Was fantastic. Going back in May next year - booked it as soon as we got back.

AQ - are you there? How are things with DS1? Any better?

OP posts:
Elibean · 04/05/2009 08:01

Did you, LenniEd? Whereabouts? I grew up in Oxford too, went to school there etc

I can imagine moving there one day...maybe not yet, but eventually..

AQ, was thinking about you and ds too, have seen your thread in health section (not posted, as nothing useful to add ) which seems v supportive, for the most part, at least!

Elibean · 04/05/2009 08:01

ps no, avoided shrunken heads as dd2 scared enough by dim surroundings of PR!

LenniEd · 04/05/2009 09:24

Eli - In Headington until I was about 10, then we moved to Long Hanborough and then Freeland until I was about 11, then Little Rissington (Just over the Gloucs border), another house in Little Rissington until I was 12 the list goes on..... you remember me saying I had moved a lot...?

I went to school in Headington, Bourton on the Water (very briefly) and Burford.

OP posts:
Elibean · 04/05/2009 09:44

My Mum lived in Old Headington till about ten years ago, now in Old Marston....and I had friends, growing up, in Freeland and Long Hanborough! I was in Chadlington Rd (next to boat house) till I was 17, then Old Headington for a year. Shame you're not there now, I could visit you on dm-trips

Elibean · 04/05/2009 09:57

AQ, just posted on your Health thread. Hope weekend's been good to you

Indith · 04/05/2009 12:27
