I got all brave and made us a new bug free thread...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jabberwocky · 24/04/2009 01:01

bebe, as a veteran of an elective I now think it is absolutely the best way to give birth. None of that labor pain business and everything on a schedule

Indith, I agree with the pecking order. Unfortunately in our house it's ds2 bullying picking on ds1

LenniEd, I'm with you on the "I'm not ready for potty-training" club. Even if ds2 seemed ready I just can't face it atm

LenniEd · 24/04/2009 20:18

Thanks Jabber - am glad I'm not alone

Looks like I'm going to be losing my meet a MNer viginity on Monday so with new found gusto am going to have to meet all of you now since I've known you for soooo much longer than my other PN thread. Now don't all shout at once!!

MARGOsBeenDrinkingTea · 24/04/2009 20:33

Ah yes Lennied if you ever fancy coming "dahn sarf" I'd love to meet up with you!

DD2 will sit on the toilet but doesn't do anything. As soon as she wees in her nappy she walk around like John Wayne I'm not looking forward to ditching nappies but now that the nice weather is here I should make an effort. I'm adopting the "manana" approach bebespain

I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders now i have sent that job app off. It's made me realise that I am the master (or should that be mistress) of my own destiny. Still there's a daily occurence of someone in tears. It make me that they feel they can treat us like imbeciles. So I am hosting a career evening at my house so we can work on our CVs together. Hopefully it will make them feel better too.

LenniEd · 24/04/2009 21:02

Margo - what a lovely and very thoughtful thing to do. And glad has helped you too - of course you are the mistress of your own destiny! If ever anyone taught me that it would be you or Castles

EustaciaVye · 25/04/2009 07:42

I am ignoring any please for the potty until the summer [grin

Maybe could meet some locals in the summer. Think Castles and Eli arent too far from me.

Elibean · 25/04/2009 10:45

Great idea. We're very nice, too

OMG, poor Castles' ds though, coping with all those dds

Margo, lovely, and empowering, thing to do, good on you!

Elibean · 25/04/2009 10:47

Though Castles, if we do that, please could you take dd2 to the potty secretly? Otherwise us reluctant potty-ers will be outed

accessorizequeen · 25/04/2009 21:30

Hullo all, you dropped off my list for a few days there
Potty training. Hmmm. Definite interest here (ds2). I'm actively ignoring him, he can wait until next summer and then he might not poo his pants EVERY day (well, mostly) for 2.5 years like his older brother. Excuse my bitterness, ds1 was showered down at school twice this week, I can barely keep up with the requests for more trousers, pants etc. Luckily most of the week he was picked up but someone else so I didn't get glared at by nursery nurse.
I'm sure it shall be very diff. with ds2, who is in all honesty an angel nearly all the time now that we've figured out how to combat his tantrums (ish). He hasn't figured out how to patronise the twins yet (very advanced, indith's ds) but tried to brush their 'teeth' tonight despite dp pointing out at length that they don't have any
Margo, tis very empowering to say 'I can leave', go for it
Bebe, wow, only 4 weeks! How exciting
Eli, congrats on house sale - tis the start of a fabulous adventure IMO!
Lennied, am I closest to you as I still haven't looked you up on a map. In which case, I wanted to be the first mumsnetter you met! Indith was my first RL meeting btw

castlesintheair · 26/04/2009 12:56

AQ, my friend's DS with similar probs to yours has recently been dx with IBS aged nearly 7 and has part of spine missing (quite common apparently) hence many accidents. Are you seeing a specialist? I would recommend it as it certainly is not behavioural, as they were told for years .

EV & Eli, I'd love to meet up

Margo, glad you are putting such a positive spin on things. 'Tis the only way ime. Lovely piccies on FB btw - had quick look just now.

jabberwocky · 26/04/2009 14:54

Castles was it this type of spinal problem?

AQ, have they talked to you about colon rehabilitation from the impaction?

castlesintheair · 26/04/2009 15:48

Jabber, yes that is it. They haven't got as far as corrective surgery in this country as far as I know. It's very interesting, I'll copy that link to my friend.

MARGOsBeenDrinkingTea · 26/04/2009 18:45

AQ & Jabber - There's a longrunning thread on here by a poster with a name like "at the end of my tether" about her daughter and her impaction problems - I haven't seen it for a while but it seems a fairly comprehensive thread which didn't seem to deviate from the subject. Lot of info and support on there too.

Ah yes - we've had a good weekend, went to a wedding and have uploaded the pictures already.

I also found £40 which I lost on Xmas Eve(it was in my dressing gown pocket) so I'm very pleased.

accessorizequeen · 26/04/2009 20:40

thanks, all. think I've come across that thread before. I looked up the spinal thing, don't see any other symptoms that relate to ds1's but dad did suggest something last week when I spoke to him. I've started a new thread in health anyway to see if anyone's got some advice. Jabber, they kinda mentioned rehabilitation a long while ago but tbh the medical advice comes from so many people and so far apart we're having trouble keeping track. Seeing an endocrinologist Tuesday follow up after blood tests in jan which were negative but as he's not a 'bowel' guy not sure how much help it will be.
Went round sainsburys and homebase with him stinking this afternoon plus massive tantrums. Sigh. Easter break was so lovely, he was so lovely, bring on summer hols.
Must go and look at fb, anyone else new on there, don't think there are many of dd yet, Indith!
did i post one of dt's 1st day of BLW? It's really working out quite wonderfully, I'm converted! The mess, though, just got to clean up the dining room now. Sigh.

Elibean · 26/04/2009 21:03

AQ, I nearly convinced dh to get a dog when we were BLW dd2: mess it is, albeit jolly. Sounds so hard, re ds1...poor little chap, I imagine being back at school feels extra extra hard for him, with impaction problems. I hope the dr. apt helps somehow, but hear you on the multiple advice/help being confusing - we had that with dd2 till we got a clear diagnosis.

Margo, not been in your dressing gown since xmas eve? Clearly not enough lounging around going on! I love finding lost notes in coat pockets, but its rare - first place I look when cashless

Am doing my back in with dd2, any ideas? I end up sticking her on my hip without thinking, and its really not good. I have slight scoliosis, and end up with migraines and constant pain - also jeopardising my ability to attempt the scarily-soon Pink Power Walk, aaargh. She walks most of the time, goes in buggy, etc but you know how it is - there are still soo many times I have to pick her up and walk a few yards to save time/sanity/her life....

EustaciaVye · 26/04/2009 21:06

Eli - I had a hippychick hipseat when I was getting neckpain carryinbg DD2., I would recommend as it takes the strain off your back.

Elibean · 26/04/2009 21:07

Bebe, how did I miss your post earlier?? (must have been tired, and I have no real reason these days - you have plenty!)

Just wanted to add my experience of planned section: twas like a party. Everyone relaxed as no panic involved, everyone happy as its a lovely thing to be part of...odd, very odd, but mostly hugely enjoyable. My only wobble was when they forgot to tell me they'd added diamorphine to my spinal cocktail, and I wondered why I was feeling so drifty and woozy and got scared! And FWIW, I recovered v v fast after that one, much faster than after dd1's emergency section birth.

That said, you can't not feel nervous before a birth, or an operation, and this is both! Will be thinking of you. Meantime, get as much rest as you can

accessorizequeen · 26/04/2009 21:11

I know what you mean about sticking them on your hip, eli. I'm not meant to carry ds2 either and tbh I have got him to just do more lately even if it means I have to wait (for aaaages) because my hips are better as a result.
But stretches at night (and the middle of the day if I can poss. manage it) really help ease things - do you do any yoga? Bridge, cat & dog, gentle twists help a lot.
I am, btw, so v.pleased that things finally worked out for dd2 - what a difference a few months ago should you go back to your thoughts at christmas

Elibean · 26/04/2009 21:16

EV, good idea - I had one with dd1, but didn't use it by the time she was 2 so didn't think of it. I do remember by the time she got heavy, it dragged my back down but without me feeling it till later - iyswim - but if I wore it at the front, so she could sort of straddle it, it might work?

Gave it away as was so sure I wouldn't be having another, but will have a look online right now...

Elibean · 26/04/2009 21:21

x-post AQ - no, don't do yoga, but did do Pilates and I think extra stretches are v good idea. Sort of knew I should be, but helps having someone else say it - will try harder!

And yes yes yes...thank you for voicing it; oddly, I was thinking about how life/my posting has changed since dd's op. Its really amazing. She still snores like a trooper, and does wake most nights with blocked nose/cough, but its never scary anymore, and she's growing like a weed.

How is your SPD, btw, while we're on the subject of aching body parts?

Amapoleon · 26/04/2009 21:25

Hola! just popped in to say hello and got sucked in to our first thread. I hardly recognise anyone , we must have all name changed.

Leo did his first pee on the potty today but i'm not actively training, am going to wait til the summer too.

I bypassed the potty with dd and am hoping to do the same again.
My mum came with a potty but he's stocky he can't really fit on it.

Bebe, can't believe it is only 4 weeks!

Indith · 27/04/2009 08:30

I wanna meet Lennied too. Maybe her ds can teach dd how to sleep for more than half an hour at a time

Eli a ring sling is good too. I can still throw ds on my back qwith one.

I don't think there is anything iother than tissues in my dressing gown.

castlesintheair · 27/04/2009 13:27

DS has been finally diagnosed with dyspraxia this morning so I'm off to rob a bank to pay for the treatment. No effing NHS round here!

Hope everyone is well.

Indith · 27/04/2009 13:41

Woohoo for a diagnosis, for bank robbing. Is it just that the support services don't exist or is it a waiting issue?

I thought dd was going from bad to worse with sleep due to teething and yet another another cold (I had forgotten how much babies can dribble!) but she has erupted in a nice viral rash today. The fact that ds was a little monster Friday and over the weekend and had a nice rash on Saturday has not escaped my notice.

They are both asleep. Am going to go doze in front of neighbours.

jabberwocky · 27/04/2009 15:12

It's kind of a mixed feeling to finally get a diagnosis, isn't it castles? When ds1 got diagnosed I was relieved that I was not a crazy over-imagining mother and overwhelmed at what lay ahead of us.

Indith, Ds2 kept us up half the night with his eczema. Apparently spring cannot go by quickly enough! I have ordered a load of Aveeno and counting the minutes until it gets here.

bebe, hang in there, the last bit seems like it will take forever but really flies by.

Ama, hola to you too!

Elibean · 27/04/2009 22:19

Castles, sorry for ignorance, what is the treatment? If you don't mind me asking? I'm glad you got a diagnosis, I know I've found it much easier to get help for me or LOs with one in any situation. about having to pay for tx, though.

Hello Amo! I mean, hola

Thanks for ring sling idea, Indith, and hope both LOs are better and sleep well.

dd2 is grumpy and snuffly (and waking coughing at night, though fine during day) and I'm guessing its hayfever. Trying Zirtec syrup (Benadryl) which seems to help a bit, but not hugely. I rocked her to sleep tonight because dh and I wanted to nip out for quick pasta while neighbour's nice nanny babysat...very silly, back-wise
