Must pay attention to dd and Toby in a minute but re the blw and purees thing - dd refused the spoon at 10 months and ate normal food from then on as wanted to feed herself. So she did her own blw iyswim. She could only sit up on her own from 8 months so it wouldn't have worked for her from 6 months like it hasn't for Toby who also can't sit up. She was feeding herself with a spoon/fork from a year.

The theory is that they will learn sooner. I am with sazzles on her approach of doing a mixture. But Toby just can't cope with bits atm, texture yes but bits no, he just keeping almost choking.

(and thanks for the sympathy all)

PetitFilou1 · 05/03/2009 14:16

If weight is a problem though, I definitely think more goes in with purees/yoghurts etc so I can understand dieticians wanting you to go that way.

LoveBuckets · 05/03/2009 14:27

Hey PF, TS and Sambo Check this out. Apparently micronised oral natural progesterone is now available on prescription in the UK.

cyteen · 05/03/2009 14:28

Sazz I agree about the food thing. We all know how polaried the whole puree vs BLW thing can get, especially on MN, and it's such a false divide in my opinion. Food is food is food and as long as your LO (and you!) are enjoying it and thriving and exploring, then your choice of format really isn't so important.

I mean, DS loves yoghurt so I load up a spoon for him and he pilots it in. But there are those out there on the BLW frontline who would say that is 'helping too much' and then their opposite numbers in the puree hardcore who would say 'how can you know how much he is getting, why don't you just spoon it in?' Every point of view has its fundamentalists, but the majority of weaners (snigger) are just mums trying to feed their babies, who after all they know best.

Having said that, I do see pf's point about needing to know how much is going in if there are concerns over weight. S&M why don't you try doing a bit of both? Let's be honest, it all evens out in the end in terms of eating skills. I'm sure I was weaned on puree but I can still manage a knife and fork most of the time.

cyteen · 05/03/2009 14:29

polarised, not polaried and i was typing with both hands too!

cyteen · 05/03/2009 15:04

DS and I have shared a very convivial lunch of tofu and veg stir fry with rice He loved the tofu and was cramming it down (freak).

Sausageandmash · 05/03/2009 15:08

yes, i asked dietician about blw and she was v interested in it but basically said that not enough evidence was available yet so basically go the puree route and leave bigger on-the chart-babies to lead the revolution. but totally agree that a mix of the two seems sensible - just got to get my head around the fear of ds choking on a piece of roasted veg - aaargh, i hate this scary stage!

Sausageandmash · 05/03/2009 15:19

cyteen, that sounds lovely. I too could have had a convivial lunch, if I'd fancied 2 cubes of squash with apple and baby rice! Yours sounds much nicer.

CaptainCaveman · 05/03/2009 15:41

Ahh, back again. Thanks for the coachman idea re. ds' book day tomorrow. Of course, I have not done anything at all about it yet. Oh feck.
Went out of work at lunchtime to feed my little O, and it was so lovely to have an unexpected cuddle. He fed well and was lovely and smiley too

Very of your holiday sazz, its so close!

VG I can't be doing with all that flicky mess! Kurt gets an empty spoon to play with and I shovel in when he's not looking so he thinks he's done it himself LOL.

Am craving choc but DH has gone to a rehearsal with his new band (which I am insanely jealous of because he gets to play with our cool neighbour) so I can't get any. Oh well, maybe trying out my new bath might take my mind off it.

Or maybe I can knock up something tasty with cocoa, sugar, golden syrup and butter - Coooee Dizzy where are you?

LoveBuckets · 05/03/2009 19:25

OMG have just realised that was the PMT talking about DH's band and the choc cravings! Better go have that bath.

ataraxis · 05/03/2009 19:26

ts, you wanna watch that sazzles on your hols, I head heard she can get pretty lairy...

vg hadn't eard that one before. utter tosh.

Got dd weighed today, for the first time since 14 wks . She is now 13lb4 and happy wandering along the 9th centile... and I thought she had become a bit of a porker!

HV said about weaning - 1 month puree, 1 month mashed, then on to finger food. She was pretty about leaving it til 6 months and about blw. She basically said do what you think is right (amazingly), which is what I was going to do anyway....

Laptop is being horrific so going to leave it for a while and do something constructive... see you later hopefully

ataraxis · 05/03/2009 19:28

Ooh seems to have miraculously cured itself with that post, maybe it was telling me to stay on MN

but I really must tackle the mountain of washing that has built up [bored emoticon]

Allezlesbluessteaknife · 05/03/2009 20:27

wotchoo all doing?

PetitFilou1 · 05/03/2009 20:35

Just going to bed before I fall in a heap at ridiculously early time. However am verging on the edge of insanity atm so need it! Have written a list for dh for tomorrow am with instructions on how to take children to school (lol - will see how that goes)

vg lol at lyrics. I believe there is a 1950s guide to be a good wife or something which says to tie a ribbon in your hair before your dh comes home etc It is a running joke between me and dh that mine has been misplaced

buckets Useful info on the PMT but I am trying not to think about it until the monster returneth

I wish you all peaceful babies this evening

Steaky! Where you been?

I am devouring a mountain of prawn pasta and waiting for the new grim drama on Channel 4 (Red Riding) to start. DP is out playing poker so I am feeling very virtuous that I have put DS to bed, cleared up all the mess from today's weaning experiments, done the washing up, cooked a delicious meal with some set aside for DS's lunch tomorrow, cut up some fruit ready for breakfast...

What's the betting I'm asleep by 9.30?
