Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

lwfh Both my older dcs went through a phase of waking up at 5.30am for a while when they were babies. But it was just that, a phase. Also my dcs needed quite a lot of sleep in the day at this age - at least 3 hours if not 4. But they are all different - I have been to music group this am where one of the two year olds goes to bed between 7.30 - 8pm, wakes at 8am and has up to 3 hours sleep a day (luckycow emoticon)!

I have to admit to chuckling at the thought of you telling your MIL that when your lo is tired he might need a cuddle! I agree though that it is difficult finding your way with the ILs. I am only just (7 years in) finding my way with my MIL. FIL has always been much easier.

As for working from home with child in earshot - very very difficult imo. Your instinct is to go to him but really you have to let go a bit if it is to work. Maybe sit down and agree some rules with your MIL? Talk through some sort of routine for him?

pertelote Thinking of you.

cyteen Glad you have got talking.

and might I add, the long dry spell in pf's house is over Even if it does mean I am even more tired today....

alittlebitshy · 04/03/2009 12:59

lwfh urgh - 5.30 am start. Somehow (so far, fingers crossed) neither of mine have ever considered 5am the start of the day. It's the middle of the night isn't it???

sambo303triesforScotland · 04/03/2009 13:13

well said albs, now come and tell my ds that !

pert goodness, hope you are ok

pf I am finally taking your advice of about 3 months ago to put ds in his own room - he's going in this weekend once dp has put the curtain rail up

my ds is 6 months old today - now to weaning proper and I find that I am flummoxed and have no clue what to do - will make a start with cyteen's lentil balls... but it's more the timing of it. I just ate my lunch cos ds was asleep - now he waking, do I have to feed him and if so what? where is that confused emoticon, i need it!

PetitFilou1 · 04/03/2009 13:37

sambo Good luck and I recommend getting blackout curtains (or lining) (sorry I'm going a bit GF on you - but works imo unless you want them up at the crack of sparrows!)

I think with BLW you are supposed to sit your lo with you at your meal and they have the same thing. In the end I just couldn't cope with that! However, I am trying to give Toby purees made of family meals a bit more (eg today he had sweet potato and left over lamb pureed and yesterday he had cooked chicken breast mixed with roast butternut squash and some apple which I steamed for him - he practically ate the bowl)

PetitFilou1 · 04/03/2009 13:39

I say family meals but I don't eat meat and like weird combinations like baked potatoes with feta and beetroot! and feta is really salty - hence why I couldn't deal with BLW in its purest form.....

LoveBuckets · 04/03/2009 13:58

Sambo Marmite-flavoured rickecakes, orange segments and bread crusts are a good place to start (Kurt is 7m and still not much further on.)

VG That Wives & Lovers song gets me too, it's SO offensive! Don't let hubby see you in your apron or he will take up his natural right to a fling with a pretty young secretary.

Bum! Went to see The Wrestler at the cinema(v good it was too) and when I came back the plumbers had put the basin in the wrong place! My bad really for not being there, non? Was meant to be flush against the end of the bath but now I have a 2" gap to hoover.

But back to Mickey Rourke, HOLY CRAP he aint no Hollywood lightweight! He got severely staple gunned on the back at one point (fairly common practice in provincial wrestling) but would not be surprised if crazy old MR really took it all for authenticity. Was certainly gruesomely realistic.

Seems to be hailing down here now after a beautiful sunny morning. What the?

sambo303triesforScotland · 04/03/2009 13:59

we dont eat meat either (dp is veggie and I was for 16 years hence have no clue how to cook meat) BTW baked spuds with feta and beetroot sounds delish to me

I'm going to have to try a bit harder to have breakfast and lunch with ds included I think - going out now for some baby friendly edibles

LoveBuckets · 04/03/2009 14:01

Oh and Kurt has started bobbing up and down in his high chair - so cute!

TwilightSurfer · 04/03/2009 15:34

thank you for tolerating me yesterday. buckets you are very right; i am completely hormonal. af knocked down the door this morning upon her arrival. damn bitch!

i've thought a lot about this feeding thing and i think it's over thought. i always try to reflect on other times or different places and i keep coming back to the idea that we just need to feed what we can feed. do what is natural. children learn to eat what we eat really. babies in japan don't grow up eating maramite and babies in america don't grow up eating cockroaches but somewhere in the world babies do eat such things are they are fine. babies in africa don't have the same options as babies in argentina. it's all a bit crazy to me really. i say this from one who has been caught up in the "doing it right" group....well maybe not this time round but the first time AND, believe me, dd1 was not helped in the slightest by it.

that said, reese is enjoying a banana, peach, granola blend that is very very yummy.

pertelote i'm feeling your mild relief. i've been stressing for you for days. imo i think the next go will be easier since you've had the test run first. crazy thought since it really is going to be hard no matter what but you know what i'm trying to say. {{{hugs}}}

kitchen floor almost took a turn for the worst. first they forgot to remove and tile under my dishwasher. got that fixed. then after they left yesterday i walked into my kitchen and found two tiles in the middle of the room that looked like moldy coffee grounds had been dumped on them. it was just natural stone imperfection but it really made the floor look bad SO i had them remove those two tiles this morning and replace with less quirky ones. they are finishing the grouting now.

reese goes for her 6m well check at 2pm.

have more to say but reese is yelling.

Sazzles when we get to the beach we are SITTING AND NOT MOVING A INCH FOR A WEEK! I'm packing my bell (for service) and whip (for lack of service). I want to just put my head feet in the sand.

Yes Buckets do get that fixed now. That spot on my kitchen floor made me feel like Lady Macbeth. My soul is clean today. Thank you.

pertelote, sorry to hear about the delay but actually, it does give you an extra week to build up a supply of milk for DD. I always find i manage to express so much more if DS is feeding on the other side iyswim

hi to the rest of you, was just popping on for a quick catch up, i'll be back later

pf thanks for your message, yes, I have been lucky that these first weeks I haven't been very busy, but this will change and so I guess that I do need to let go a bit as I do want to do this work well.

vg thank you for your advice as well.

ts your post about food was quite interesting. I find the idea of curry quite a good example, that in some parts of the world children must be used to nice spicey food at a young age, while here for example there isn't much at all.

On the other hand here in Argentina we don't eat cockroaches we get a man in to get rid of them. Ugh.

pertelote - oh, how frustrating, I hope that the wait is OK.

longwayfromhome · 04/03/2009 19:10

I saw a cockroach in the supermarket at the weekend. I screamed and pointed. DH did a shush and look the other way in an thing. I nearly went off on a rant about how in England the supermarket would be shut down if there was this kind of thing, but maintained some dignity.

And it was a nice out of town superstore as well.

LoveBuckets · 04/03/2009 19:49

Can't do anything about my basin (was already plumbed in and sealed to wall and am too wimpy anyway) but could fix up some plywood to cover the gaps. Either paint it or stick on some border tiles.

Sambo My mum gets out the ancient tupperware for babies to play with (and my DS1 still loves it!) Egg scooper and egg separator are the favourites.

Agree with TS and Longway about baby food, made me laugh when I was BFing Kurt and my mum was worried the Lindt chili chocolate we were eating would be too spicy for him!(Think she just didn't want to share it actually in hindsight.)

PF Roast beetroot with Philadelphia + salt and pepper - I once ate 3 in one night!

AnnVan · 04/03/2009 20:00

Hello everyone.
Just popping in to say hi and bye. Am off to go bouncing in a minute.
pertelote try keep your chin up. I don't know how you must be feeling at the moment, but rest assured we're all willing to 'listen'

Haven't caught up properly. So hope noone else is offended for the lack of mention.

MiamlaHasADaffodilBehindHerEar · 04/03/2009 20:39

ssh, i didn't dare mention it earlier but hey, i'm not superstitious and it won't jinx anything, hopefully but... DS slept from midnight to 6.15 last night!!!! I didn't of course, i kept waking up in preparation for him waking up but its a small step in the right direction!

and i don't want to see any green faces again but ALBS and I had another mini meet-up today! And I had tea with a vicar. How civilised is that! and despite being very very tempted i was mature enough to not ask him if he wanted more tea

LoveBuckets · 04/03/2009 20:57

As long as you didn't call him Vicar like it was his name, that must drive them mad.

sambo303triesforScotland · 04/03/2009 21:28

mm buckets I had that chilli choc once - I kept biting into it thinking, gosh this would be so nice without that burney sensation

alittlebitshy · 04/03/2009 21:30

argh -after last night's sleep-a-thon ds has woken up twice already. Not like him at all. Think it must be his teeth.... arggh. off to bed....

cyteen · 04/03/2009 21:40

I can't believe no one has yet congratulated pf on being back in the saddle Good score missy.

sambo re. weaning, I have been muddling along with no real plan as well and it seems to be going ok. Have a look at the BLW forum for recipe ideas and tips, it's already been very useful for me - I made porridge cakes for DS this morning as per a recommendation on there and he loved them! I've only recently started giving him meal-type food as well as the sticks of fruit and veg that we started with - initially it was all just broccoli florets, melon/ripe pear etc. cut into sticks, ripe plums cut into strips (large areas of skin worried me as didn't want them to get stuck in his throat) and so forth. Hard fruit got steamed so as not to break into big chunks unexpectedly, ditto harder veg like carrot, sweet potato etc. Skinless cucumber sticks have been a big hit (think they are soothing on his gums). Lately I've been offering sticks of cheese which he likes, rice cakes, toast crusts, avocado or banana mashed on toast soldiers... With sloppy foods I tend to load a spoon and hand it to him - he's pretty good at getting most of the food in his mouth.

We don't share meals as such atm as days are different, we're often out and about - if so, I pack a snackbox for him (and a bib). If we're at home he mostly sits in his highchair in the kitchen and I hand him stuff while washing up/preparing food for him/making my lunch/loading or unloading washing machine - this works well for us as I can keep a close eye on him while getting a few things done. Otherwise he likes sitting on my knee and eating; this is also nice as it's easy to feel as well as see how he's managing his food

Hi to everyone else

Nursery visit was great, we both loved it - they gave all the right answers to my questions without knowing they were the right answers, iyswim. All the staff are permanent, the building is lovely, the way they do things sounds like the right mix of structured and relaxed, rates are reasonable and they have places. So that is a result really Went to visit some friends-with-babies afterwards and had a good natter.

sambo303triesforScotland · 04/03/2009 22:09

miamla well done to T on that sleep, you are giving me hope. Shame you did not manage to take full advantage

cyteen thanks for that list, I have written it down cos I am finding it a bit difficult to remember anything atm. Think we'll start off with some fruit for breakfast tomorrow - we have pears and apples plus toast. I feel quite excited.

ann happy bouncing

TwilightSurfer · 04/03/2009 22:41
