Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

I forgot to say, I've got a GOOD HV story! Ds has always had very dry skin, the nurse doing his jabs commented on it, and the doc at the hospital (He described him as an 'eczemary asthmary' baby in fact. Thanks for that.) and now he actually has a touch of eczema behind his knees. Yesterday I went to the drop-in baby weighing session, and mentioned the teeny tiny bit of eczema to the HV who was around, she referred us to the eczema clinic and today I got a phone call from the HV who is a skin specialist and she's doing a home visit tomorrow. Now that's what I call good service! Just thought I ought to put in a good word for the lovely health people out there!

Meglet · 11/03/2009 07:19

notcitrus i'm in awe of your ttc!

debi, lollyheart, hopefully i went to the indoor play centre yesterday with DS's little friends + mummys and it was lovely and quiet. I even got to go down the big slides (not the vertical drop one though!). I took DD on one of the slides and she loved it.

I think DD is almost able to sit up not. TBH I never remember to practise with her and when I tried it yesterday she was able to hold it for a while before toppling. I keep forgetting to tlook for teeth too. When I had DS I was always looking for teeth, I expect one will be there for ages before I notice this time round.

plusonemore · 11/03/2009 07:26

found this fab cream for eczema, made by a mum who was fed up with there being nothing for her little girl. All natural ingredients, cleared up ds1 skin in a few days. And I've used it on the dry patches on my boobs (anyone else get that?) and it feels lovely

Biglips · 11/03/2009 10:43

well...good luck notcitrus...hope it will be soon that you be pg

Yeah my dd2 had rolled a few times but goes into one when she cant roll back. Dd1 only ever rolled once but crawled, cruised and sat up all in one morning at 8 months old!! i didnt know what to do with myself!!

my friend from america sent me some Gerber dry foods - whole grain porridge and some jars too....where would i look for a wholegrain foods from here?? as i found one in Asda but it was for 7m plus...maybe boots???

SnowlightMcKenzie · 11/03/2009 12:15

Hello everyone. Thanks for your advice on baking. My 'clementine' star biscuits are now in the oven (didn't have any lemon to zest - hope it works)!

I also made a banana fruit loaf yesterday which amazingly worked, - so thanks again!

Nice to see you Biglips!

Biglips · 11/03/2009 13:34

yum yum!! i made a banana loaf the other week and it was so yummy!!

im seems to be cooking alot more than i ever did with dd1 when she was about same age as dd2

watched a video of my dd1 when she was about 8 m old.....gosh i was so emotional!! why??

Biglips · 11/03/2009 13:36

meglet - ha ha ha ha!! i really did hope you didnt go on the vertical drop one slide

SnowlightMcKenzie · 11/03/2009 14:04

Okay, the orange jellies that I put on top of the biscuits melted into a jammy dodger type blob, but all in all, my clemintine star biscuits worked.

They are cut into stars because it was the only cutter I have (having bought it for christmas to make star clay decorations)

Biglips I'm with you. Having your first child is sooooo hard. Somehow life is easier with both of them than it ever was with just DS at Baby Starlight's age

Get cracking NC, lead the way for the rest

digitalgirl · 11/03/2009 15:49

Ok, so A showed some interest in rolling just now. We were on the bed and I helped him. Earlier he managed to get up on his hands and knees and pushed himself backwards. Now he's knackered and asleep.

Update on Operation: Witholding the 3am Feed.
Last night was night 4 of the operation. A is settling quicker with a quick shush-pat at 3:30 and 4:30. However is still waking up at 5ish and having trouble getting back to sleep. DH has been getting up with him at 6:40 onwards and changing his nappy then handing to me for the first feed of the day. Today we got to 7am for 1st feed.

Both boob and baby are getting used to enforced separation between 12am and 7am. So I think we can say the feed has successfully been dropped. We now need to work on getting him to remain sleeping between 12am and 6:30am. Then we'll think about moving him into his room.

Am I right in thinking any more growth spurts from now on will be dealt with by A increasing his solids intake?

becaroo · 11/03/2009 17:13

Oh my god...crap mummy alert!!!!!!!!!

Toby is a big boy as you all know and he has not been able to fit in his infant carrier car seat for some time so when he got to 9kg (20lbs) we put him in the combination car seat (Britax First Class).

Thing is, we have had him forward facing since we put him in it (about 4 weeks ago) and now I have read that he should be rear facing til he can sit up unaided and it is not to do with weight at all!!!!!!!!!! I really dont think he will like going backwards now he is used to being forward facing.....oh bugger. I am a complete idiot

Really sorry to ear of all the poorly babies....we are still in teething hell Toby has been rolling over since he was 14 weeks tummy to back and 18 weeks back to tummy. He is desperate to crawl and loves jumping up and down on my knee! Cant sit up unaided for long, but does try.

Thoughts on car seat??? Should I just leave him be???

lollyheart · 11/03/2009 17:30

Tbh becaroo i would turn him to rear facing,if you did have an accident it could snap his neck, sorry to put it like that but better safe than sorry, i had a friend put her baby forward facing at 4 months she got hit up the arse and her poor ds got neck injuries

I did'nt give f so much lunch today to see if he was more hungry for milk, he has been feeding more this afternoon.

Debs75 · 11/03/2009 18:21

becaroo i would change it back to rear facing just to be safe.

I was hoping it would be a =ges before we need a new seat, i have no idea what to go for and just to make it awkward we are getting a new car in july. We are hoping Robyn will last the carrier until we get a new car so we onlky have to fit it into 1 car iyswim

Pushing vibes needed. My cousin is in hospital due to deliver her first dc, she was 3cms at dinner time so hopefully she will be well on her way by now.

becaroo · 11/03/2009 18:55

oh dear.....thats what I thought. Bugger.

digitalgirl · 11/03/2009 19:43

Arse, didn't even get called for an interview . Back to the old job i s'pose. I need a job in a real company with good maternity benefits. I can't afford to save up for maternity leave if I'm only working part-time.

A is asleep and DH has gone out for the night (very rare occurance, so am v. pleased for him). Looks like it's me and the hobnobs then. Pass the banana loaf starlight

imoscarsmum · 11/03/2009 19:43

Sorry to hear of all the poorly babies. Hoping all have speedy recovery. Feel free to vent worries on here anytime, you'll have our support. Can't imagine the worry you are going through.

God this weaning lark is complicated! I gave C some mango strips this morning and she made a grab for them but just couldn't manage to pick them up. So.....I put one in her hand for her (on the basis that if she wasn't interested, she would just drop it). She sucked it like mad and dropped it back on the plate then picked it up again!! If I wasn't supposed to that per the BLW 'rules', sod it!

I feel for you Hopefully. I think the same about C eating (except I don't mind helping her to pick it up - it's up to her then if she ats it), but I do see all the babies in RL at my baby group who are thriving on purees and all kinds of yummy smoothy stuff.
I think I'll try C on finger food only till next Tues (6 months) and then add porridge/mash potato etc by spoon and see what she does.
I'm probably explaining this badly but I think I really want C to have finger foods but there are some foods I also want her to try and they just can't be put on rice cake/toast (eg porridge).

imoscarsmum · 11/03/2009 19:47

Oh, and Ninja hope skiing going well (not jealous - have snow phobia!) and [fanfare] i went back to trafford Centre yesterday with MIL and went to see Confessions of Shopaholic at parent & baby screening. Was great! No stress as all the babies there cried a bit and no one bothered. C watched a bit of the film, played a bit then fell asleep. Success!!
And thanks for the offer of underwater snaps - not sure how practical it is, given our locations, but would be nice (skivved off last waterbabies session today - C has a cough and I had an offer of tea and biscuits with other mums ).

digitalgirl · 11/03/2009 19:55

imo I do that all the time (helping), A has got into this habit of not looking at what he's picking up. He just has a feel on the table and picks up whatever his hand touches. Quite often its the thing he's just put down. His way of 'fixing' this situation is to hold offending item as far out as possible and drop it, then continue this blind foraging. So I sometimes hold food at his eyeline and he decides to grab it or not. Not 'pure' BLW, but hey - he likes it.

hopefully I know what you mean, I have these crises of confidence about whether it's fair on A or not that I'm not feeding him baby rice or purees. But he won't be spoonfed now. Giving him medicine requires a team effort from DH and I, someone to restrain his arms, the other to pour in medicine.

With porridge, DH drops spoonfuls of porridge into a frying pan so they set like pancakes. So A can pick up the porridge.

CarrieBo · 11/03/2009 20:22

The delightful HV came round today and prescribed lotions and potions a plenty for ds's excema and dry skin. You're know you're make the most of the NHS when they give you a carrier bag at the chemist . Thanks for the link to the cream plusone
Sorry about the job digital. And my answer to growth spurts is def more solids. Or 'tier' feeding where you do milk-solid-milk in one meal.

I can't imagine ds having the problem of not taking a spoon. He makes really cute panicky noises and flaps his arms if I'm taking too long to replenish the spoon and get the next bit to him! His nappy output has been extraordinary today; we've stopped babyrice so he's just having pure veg/fruit puree thinned with a bit of milk. His poos have got almost solid, but today he didn't have lunch so had two extra milk feeds, and did the most liquid exploding poo at tea time - I've had to wash the cover of the bouncy chair as a result!

Sending those pushing vibes debs!

Debs75 · 11/03/2009 20:49

digi you can get dummies that have a medicine dispenser in it if thats any help.
Good idea about the porridge.
If they can't have runny honey can they have the set stuff?

imo we are having a tough time at waterbabies, she hates putting her head under and gets really clingy after we have tried. instructor saisd next week not to try going under. we only have 4 lessons left and then we are going to go with the local council lessons as they are much cheaper. if she etill hates it then she can be a landlover like me.
How soon can i get her on a horse??

Ponymum · 11/03/2009 21:04

Digigirl sorry about the job application. And fried porridge? Is your DH Heston Blumenthal?

CarrieBo · 11/03/2009 21:06

debs the issue with honey, as I understand it, is one of potential botulism, so the set stuff is still out of bounds.

CarrieBo · 11/03/2009 21:18

Actually don't listen to a word I have to say about food; I've just set off the smoke alarm and burnt a pan cooking lentils. Doh.

potxola · 11/03/2009 21:32

Hi
Sorry it has taken me this long.
I just can't find the time.
Kisses to all your gorgeous babies and hope the ones are ill get well soon
Here, everything is going Ok.
Lorea is 6 months and a week ago I decided to teach her to sleep on her cot because she was still co-sleeping and feeding constantly. Pacita kaixo. I did the controlled crying and it worked in 1 night, I could not believe it (5 min, went tho shiii her, 10 min, went to shiii her and after 4 min she was aslept. With my son, it did not work till he was 15 months and it took three nights.
She still feeds once during the night and when I put her down goes back to sleep. Totally different from her brother when he was a baby, maybe is a girly thing.

digitalgirl · 11/03/2009 21:35

carriebo I heard about the botulism risk in honey too. Burnt lentils aside you are still a knowledgable mum.

ponymum I heart Heston! Loving his new tv series (edible cutlery!). Not loving the food poisoning scare though.

debs if only A would take a dummy! Actually I've been meaning to pick up a mini syringe for squirting meds, but can never remember it when I need to.

Wish I didn't have to think about going back to work. I am lucky to have this time off though, some of my NCT chums have already gone back because their DH's have been made redundant.

Meglet · 11/03/2009 21:37

I've just spent AGES trying to get on MN on my blackberry!!

DD is getting better at BLW now, she can pick food off the tray and have a reasonable attempt at getting it in her mouth, but I still give her puree's as I'm too neurotic to trust BLW.

Oh this is taking so long to type on this tiny keyboard.
