Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

Oh, GlamPacita maybe I'm being dense. I just got an email today about it asking to vote.

Then I read it had been extended, but maybe I got it wrong.

DebiTheScot · 26/02/2009 21:20

it has been extended. You do realise though snowlight don't you that you don't win anything even if you get the most votes?

Pacita · 26/02/2009 21:27

Ok, can someone tell me where to vote?

SnowlightMcKenzie · 26/02/2009 21:51

Don't I? oh - story of my life that!

Hopefully · 26/02/2009 22:00

Hmmm... I am contemplating going to bed, but can here T rustling around upstairs, and I know if I go up he'll wake. But if I wait till he's in a deeper sleep, he'll be up 30 minutes after I go to bed anyway. Lose-lose situation!

Meglet lol at DD's attempt at food. I gave T a piece of brocolli today, just for the novelty value, and he scrunched it all up in his fist without even looking at it. Methinks he's not quite ready (only 23 weeks, so no surprises there).

Becaroo congrats on the tooth! Not yours, obv.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 26/02/2009 22:09

No, you're right, I won't win anything, - but I'll get a lovely warm glowing feeling, -
(that is until someone falls asleep with a large piece of toast stuck in their throat!)

SnowlightMcKenzie · 26/02/2009 22:11

But, one of you might win a centerparks holiday, and then you could let me come with you!?

Pacita · 26/02/2009 22:11

I finally found the link - and I can genuinely say that I voted for you out of the sheer originality of your tip - everyone knows a bath with eucalyptus helps, but who could have thought of throat sweeping with dry toast? Genius I say.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 26/02/2009 22:14

Aw, thanks Glam!

Pacita · 26/02/2009 22:16

DG was being nice. I look like a cat slept in my head.

Hopefully · 27/02/2009 07:48

lol at cat in hed pacita. Sure it's not true, but a funny image!

Well... We had a bit of a breakthrough last night. T was absolutely knackered when he went to bed, for some reason (at 8:30), I went to bed at 10pm, expecting to be woken any minute, and he woke for a feed at... 1:45am! This is the latest he's gone without his dream feed. He then didn't have his next feed till 5am, so instead of waking at the highly annoying time of 6:15am, he slept till... 7:04am! And yes, I did look at the clock the second he woke.
Was soooo nice not to have what feels like a third night waking (even though it was only an extra 45 minutes in bed), and not to be woken the second I fell asleep. Sure it won't be repeated again tonight, as he was freakishly tired yesterday, but at least we know it's moving in the right direction.

imoscarsmum · 27/02/2009 11:53

Well done on the sleeping T!! And Pacita, my cat, who died before C arrived (the 'oscar' of my name), used to curl up on top of my head at night . We used to call him oscar the wig!!

DG cabbage - did you cook it and bring it out with you or were the peppers and cabbage raw strips? You seem to be blw guru atm. I want C to try spinach and cabbage but not sure if cooked leaves of either are a choking hazard. Any advice?

Hopefully I let C hold a bit of my banana the other day. She stuck her tongue out and licked it like a lollipop but that was all.

notcitrus · 27/02/2009 13:52

OK, dilemma time. Been invited to wedding in May, so A will be 6 1/2 months. A is invited and bride really wants him there.

So do we drive home after (3 hours, someone will need to be sober, A won't be happy getting out of car in middle of night), or stay in local B&B (us trying to sleep in same room as A, no idea how he'll feel about it)...

What does a 6-month-old wear to a wedding anyway??

Meglet · 27/02/2009 13:56

notcitrus I'd go to the wedding if that was me. If you take A then hopefully he'll be tired out from all the excitement and sleep quite well. Or can you leave him over night with someone so you can go and let your hair down .

DebiTheScot · 27/02/2009 13:59

I'd stay in a B&B nc. We're going to a wedding next month and are going to stay in a hotel where we will all be in the same room, could be interesting! It might be a nightmare with ds2 disturbing ds1 but its only 1 night and we'll have a long car journey home the next day where they can sleep if they need to.
And something's gone wrong with your maths if A will only be 6 1/2 months in May

Debs75 · 27/02/2009 14:14

Well our first trip to Ikea obviously had some affect on Robyn. She went down last night just after 10 and slept through till 7.30. I woke twice to check her but she just snored through.
On the downside I leaked on to the bed and dp was not impressed as it was his side
She is now having a grumble in her pram trying to go to sleep.

NC take him to the wedding like Debi says it is only 1 night just make sure you have all the things that he likes for comfort and just enjoy it. If you start taking him to things like weddings now then he will become a pro at behaving and you won't have a mad toddler to calm down in a few years. I hope

notcitrus · 27/02/2009 14:53

We're definitely going to the wedding with A, it's just whether we drive there and back in a day (3 hours each way) or stay over.
MrNC is a huge insomniac and has never slept in the same room as A, and I haven't been in the same room since he was 2 months, except when he had a bad cold. I'm sure A will be fine, it's us I'm worried about!

He will in fact be 7 1/2 months, well done Debi!

Kagey · 27/02/2009 16:45

Yay at T and his incredible sleep - I would like to think that the full nights' sleep in the title thread will be a reality ( I shall keep my fingers crossed!).

Have a lovely weekend all!

imoscarsmum · 27/02/2009 19:53

I feel very chuffed today. Went for a walk and a cuppa with a local mum I met at antenatal classes. Her DD is 2 weeks older than mine and still 100% bf and will not take any food at all. That is until this weekend where she grabbed a carrot and stuffed it in her mouth. Her mum had been trying purees and jars, and so I'd been banging on about BLW and she asked me to email her all the details about it today as she thinks it's the way for her!! It's the first time someone's asked me for advice!!

splishsplosh · 27/02/2009 20:44

Congratulations on the sitting and the teeth what clever babies

meglet how upsetting about the appointment, though at least you have time to schedule in some grooming now

C had her first outing in a buggy since she was 4 weeks old today - she was ok at first, dozed off, but when she woke up she cried in a very tragic way. I had to take her with me to hospital as I had some cardiac tests - a technician came in to hold her as everyone could hear her crying when she had to be in the buggy. I hope she doesn't think I'll be carrying her everywhere for ever!

ninja · 27/02/2009 20:54

Wow - all this rolling, sitting and producing teeth must be tiring these babies out!
Congrats to all

Starlight I voted for you, If I win you can come to Centerparcs with us.

nc - I'd do the b&b - if MrNC drinks he'll crash out and not be disturbed.

digitalgirl · 27/02/2009 23:18

imo re: cabbage and peppers, we were in a cafe at the time and I'd ordered a salad so everything was raw and cut into strips. The first thing A went for was the green pepper, he seems to love green things. The cabbage was red cabbage, quite hard and good for gnawing on.

A has gagged on leaves, they stick to his tongue and he hasn't worked out how to push them out of his mouth. So if you definitely want to offer spinach in a blw style, I'd puree it and spread it on a rice cake/toast or load up a spoon and let your baby . Cabbage is a bit more robust, so maybe try not too overcooked floppy strips.

at being a guru, I am definitely not with only 3 weeks behind me. This afternoon A was very grumpy and had a bad run of naps (only 20 minutes each time), was stuffing his fist in his mouth so thought I cut up some salady bits for him. He loved the cucumber (straight from the fridge), but winced at the yellow pepper (too acidic?), and was disappointed with his usual favourite, steamed brocolli. I think he's teething again. Poor thing has been doing the croaky crying thing all afternoon and just now for his 10:30 feed.

Am depressed at the thought of applying for a new part-time job. Just found out my company has relocated to the other side of London - where DH used to work and it would often take him 2-3 hours to get there due to rubbish tube service. I would rather extend my ML on an extremely tight budget than spend 6 hours a day commuting.

Hopefully · 28/02/2009 09:24

I am getting really depressed at going back to work, even though it's not till September. I am increasingly thinking about either TTC sooner than later (minimum time in work!) or working my arse off nearly full time for 3-4 months then quitting, so we have some money in the bank.
We can afford for me not to go back, but would be seriously poor.

Grrr, T went back to waking at 11, 3 and 6 last night. This morning he fed from 6-7, started grizzling so I gave him to DP to play with downstairs, and he fell asleep on DP going down the stairs and stayed conked out in the bouncy chair till 8!

Ponymum · 28/02/2009 10:27

Sorry about others with return to work woes too. It's not easy returning to a previous job after all this, let alone contemplating starting again somewhere else.

Is it time for some more bad mother confessions? DD has a cold and last night her breathing sounded terrible. So DH said, I'll prop up her mattress a bit so it's easier for her. It was dark, I was half asleep, etc. In the morning we awoke to hear her happily gurgling away talking to herself so we listened for a few minutes then I went to give her a cuddle.... and she was sideways at the bottom end of the cot! DH had put a really big man-sized pillow under her mattress so the top end was about 4 inches higher than the bottom! She had slid down the precipitous ramp-mattress and kind of got stuck.

Obviously she was fine, but from now on I am going back to checking up on DH's work again. (He hates this, and I try not, but... )

Ponymum · 28/02/2009 10:31

Er... I suppose that's more of a bad daddy confession really. But I do regard myself as the official parenting Quality Control Officer.
