Sal I think if I was seeing a pattern of chest infections and i thought B was generally not well I'd go - even if I sort of thought there wasn't much to be done I'd want the reassurance and to rule out anything like asthma or whatever.
For an individual cold, I go if the cough is productive, and if I see yellow phlegm but it's hard with babies because you can't get them to spit so it's chance more than anything.
My doc is great and takes me seriously, I've only been a couple of times and each time he's ruled out ears and chest infections but has never made me feel like i shouldn't be there.

SalLikesCoffee · 04/03/2009 22:31

Thanks Ladybee. I always feel so bad if I either:
a) Go to doctor, just for them to say ah, wait it out,
or
b) Go to doctor, for them to confirm there's a bad infection and to start taking meds immediately - I then feel so guilty for having left him to suffer for longer than necessary.
You can't win, can you?
Think I'll take him tomorrow then, explaining I'm worried that infection is spreading to his chest again etc.

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 09:30

As you can see by the above he didn't get the job.

However, we at least had a decent nights sleep last night for the first time in a couple of weeks DH is actually very philosophical about the whole thing & is being allowed to decide what his role will now entail & he's thinking of doing a Masters. He had hoped to do it a few years ago but now he should have more time to devote to it.

We are least no worse off than we were before so back to the grind. I always knew I wasn't to be a lady of leisure

The down side for me is obviously that there definately won't be any more mini-Sophs But I already have 2 wonderful children so definately shouldn't complain.

And it's CHIP DAY so something else to smile about

Back later as I actually have work to do today

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 05/03/2009 09:33

Oh Soph,I am so sorry. It is however good news that your dh is taking this ok, and being able to do his Masters would be wonderful.

Enjoy chip day today!

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 09:57

Thanks Sal and all you other wonderful ladies for helping to keep me sane I will definately enjoy my chips today LOL.

Hey All - Soph - I was reading through all the posts getting more and more excited for you - soooo sorry DH didn't get the job, but agree with Sal- at least he WILL be able to do something he's wanted to do - so it all balances out.

Sal - how did it go at the doctor? How is R?

VS - congrats on the job!! Very cool. Wish you lived by me and were working at the nursery school Gigi will be going to. I've been reading those horrible threads on the horrors of sending your babies to creche and now I can't sleep at night. I wish I didn't have to go back to work.

Ellie - sooo impressed with the running lark!! Send me your info and I'll sponsor you as well. Wish I felt more inclined to exercise - I need too (and you would think I would be inspired to every time I look in the mirror). I need a kick up the butt.

I think Gigi might be intolerent to tomatoes. Last week she had a lunch and a dinner with tomato in both meals and she had a horribly pooey bum for a few days after. Thought it might be teething or maybe a bug or the tomato. She didn't seem all that bothered though so ruled out the bug. Yesterday I gave her a meal that had tomato paste in, this morning pooey bum again. How do I go about finding out if she really does have an intolerence?

We had her baptism on Sunday and it was really lovely. We had a wonderful Reverend - we felt privledged to have her as she made the ceremony so special. Can understand why people do this when their babies are younger though! Gigi was a little wiggle worm and chatterbox the whole way through!! She just wanted down and on the floor so she could crawl! As soon as it was over, we got her changed back into her normal clothes and she was off! lol Little Miss Independent already!

LadyBee · 05/03/2009 10:59

oh Soph, that's such a shame. Did he get any feedback on why he didn't get it?
Excellent that he's philosophical about it and also that they're being good about allowing him some flexibility in his role, it's some compensation I suppose. Sorry about no more Sophlets, I hope the urge doesn't overcome you too strongly.

MHaH, when do you start back at work? Dunno about intolerances, but am sure someone else will...just remember about the horror stories, it's the same for hospitals - hardly anyone writes in with good stories but lots of babies go and are very happy

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 11:16

LadyBee - he has less managerial experience than the guy who did get it. Also the other guy has a Masters and he doesn't. The Head did say though that part of his reason for not having a Masters was his fault because he should have been more supportive 3 years ago when the idea was first discussed. Also, just to rub salt in the wound a little bit, DH is on the same conference as this guy at the weekend. I'd be dropping arsenic in his drinks but then I'm evil like that

I think I'll be fine about the Sophlets (LOL) because I always knew deep down that we wouldn't be having any more, it was just the thought that if we had more money DH was more likely to indulge me

MHaM - great to hear she had a lovely baptism. Don't worry too much about nursery. As I'm always saying on here Sam absolutely loves his & I couldn't wish for a nicer place for him. Of course I wish he didn't have to go at all but that's not an option for lots of mums. When do you go back to work?

The tomato thing might not be an intolerance as she's not vomiting or coming up in a rash is she? However, I have very limited experience but I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you. All I know with me is that as soon as I drink milk or eat fish it stays down for a very limited period of time!

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 11:32

Completely unrelated topic but how much liquid can you take on a flight? Is it 100ml? DH is trying to get away with just taking hand luggage tomorrow but obviously wants to take his deodorant, etc.

OP posts:
EllieG · 05/03/2009 12:43

100 ml. Unless is baby milk but then you have to taste it.

soph - for your DH. But I firmly believe that if something like this doesn't come off, is not meant to be and there are better things round the corner. Is a bit polly-anna-ish but I really do think so!

Sorry to hear there are poorly babies
Molly was up half the night with no excuse - just awake and overtired and crying. Bloody hell. Am getting a bit down about the sleeping. Every time I think we're getting there we seem to go back to square 1.

On a less moany note - you know when they get to 1 they don't need as much milk anymore? Well how much is less? Mol has 3 feeds of about 7oz a day at moment, so roughly 21 oz, probably a bit less as doesn't finish it all. She's dropped her milk intake naturally as started to eat more food. What do I do when she gets to 1? Replace a bottle with a snack?

Thanks for the sponsorship offer MhaH - you can sponsor me by clicking here. Ta muchly

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 13:35

Thanks Ellie, I try and see it that way too. There are going to be quite a few other changes I reckon over the next couple of years so we shall just watch this space.

Re the milk query. I seem to remember with DS1 that I used to offer him a snack but would also offer cows milk in a beaker & sometimes he'd have it & sometimes not. I wouldn't offer milk though if his snack was a yoghurt for example.

OP posts:
LadyBee · 05/03/2009 14:37

I was wondering whether I should be really working on getting DS taking his milk from a beaker now? He has two 5 oz bottles and two breastfeeds a day and seems to want all them just as much as he always did.
He drinks water from a sippy cup quite well or an open cup (with me holding it as well)
I could talk to his childminder about offering a beaker of formula instead of a bottle as we're discussing food soon. Should I?

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 15:00

LadyBee - I don't see why not, especially as he's already taking liquids from a cup/beaker. Sam will take a couple of sips from a sippy cup but the majority of it normally ends up all down him as I think they still flow a bit too fast for him.

OP posts:
KnitterInTheNW · 05/03/2009 15:23

The sippy cup George gets on best with is a tommee tippee/nuby one from Tesco with a silicone spout. this one excepy they're £2.97 each in tesco or 2 for £4 at the minute. He'll only have water though. Still no BF, he'll only have 1 sip of milk from anything, and has been waking up starving at 5:30am (after several wakes a night still, Ellie - we've still never had a full night's sleep!) because he's not having any milk at bedtime so last night gave him a weetabix just before bed hoping for a later start to the day. 5am, awake, teeth! Argh! I'm a very tired lady.

We've been out for most of the day, first to caterpillar music and then on to meet one of the other NCT mums during her lunch break to go & choose some balloons for the joint party. So exciting! George did me proud having his lunch in Costa before she arrived, and helping me eat my brie & tomato chutney panini. He enjoyed that more than what I'd taken for him! He had a good flirt with everyone who walked past and was in such a good mood.

So so sorry about the job, Soph...

OMaLittle · 05/03/2009 15:34

HELLO ALL! So sorry I've been away for so long. Getting my head around things and then it always seems like a mammoth task to catch up!

Massive hugs to Scorpio, first, am so sorry to hear your news (of a while ago ). What number TCW are you as I remember all of your address but the number?

Soph, also really sorry to hear about DH's job. A relief that the purgatory is over, though!

VS, great news about your job! Like everyone says, I would be so delighted to have either you or Scorpio looking after my girls.

Big love to everyone else.

All well here, am really happy. Went for an interview today which was pretty full-on (and involved teaching my first ever lesson!), definitely won't get it as there were two experienced teachers there (it would be a train-on-the-job role for me) but I really enjoyed it which is important. Also have an interview at my first choice for PGCE which again sounds full on! Girls are wonderful and DD2 is FINALLY SLEEPING THROUGH! God, it makes a difference. Fingers crossed for you, Knitter, and you, Ellie, and anyone else still having sleep nightmares (Sal?). I feel for you with all my heart. It will end, it will.

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 16:14

Hi OMa, great to hear you enjoyed your first lesson. Am also pleased to hear that you're getting full nights sleep

Also thanks Knitter & OMa.

I was having a bit of a gloomy-doo just now though. I have to walk past DH's office to get from Library to staffroom/dining room, etc & it dawned on me that it won't be his office soon I think that's the most difficult thing to deal with oddly enough. However, I'm strange like that

OP posts:
Soph73 · 05/03/2009 16:42

Well, home time soon. See you tomorrow

'I'd be dropping arsenic in his drinks but then I'm evil like that '

Laxatives maybe?

LadyBee · 05/03/2009 22:28

Gosh knitter - george has really gone off milk! I just re-read your post and only just noticed you'd said he was only wanting one sip from anything. How odd

Oma, lovely to hear from you - sounds like you've thrown yourself into it already! Congrats on the sleeping through as well.

SalLikesCoffee · 05/03/2009 23:06

Oma, how great to hear from you again! Have thought about you a lot lately, was a lovely surprise to see your name again today. Brilliant news re sleeping through. It's getting better here - when R's not ill he's not sleeping too bad. Still not the 7-7 thing, but 11-7 sleeping through would be fine with me. One day, one day.

MHH, Gigi's pics are so beautiful on FB! Sorry to hear about the tomato episode. Sounds kind of like R's reaction when he's lactose and soya intolerant (that's getting better as we go along btw, he can now do 4 normal, 2 lactose free mix). We've got an appointment at the paediatrician on the 13th, so will let you know if i can find out anything else.

Re sippy cup - we've just bought R one of those Tommee Tippee soft teat cups, and he likes it a lot better than the hard ones, which leaks. I think it's supposed to be a transition kind of one, so for us where he wasn't too keen on a hard spout just yet, but wanting him to get used to not only having a bottle.

Am now off to bed, will try and catch up again mid tomorrow. Can't tell you how glad I am it's weekend.

paranoidmummy · 06/03/2009 11:52

hey guys, just a quick hello and to say vs, scorpio... fancy moving to colchester???? there is a great nursery with your names on... PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEE

hi to everyone else. so sorry to hear about your dh soph. hopefully it means it wasn't the right thing for him. Maybe a euromillions win tonight?

cvs on tues... scary malerey

KnitterInTheNW · 06/03/2009 12:34

LadyBee, George has only had 1 sip of milk from anything except me for forever! And now that's out too. He has cows milk on his cereal in the morning, a pile of grated cheese at one of his mealtimes, 2 milky desserts (yogurt, custard, rice pud etc0 and lots of milk on a weetabix before bed so I'm not worried about him having enough. He just won't drink it! He wasn't having as much as that when he was still bfing, I've upped it since.

Sal, I think the soft spout cup is meant to be a transition one as you said, but I'll happily use it til he can use an open cup if it means getting some fluids into him!

EllieG · 06/03/2009 13:08

Hello all!
Molly has started using a tommee tippee super sipper cup with a straw thing with a valve on it. She quite likes that am going to try her with her milk in it instead of just water and see how she gets on. My mate said at her kiddos nursery they give them milk in beakers not bottles, but I don't think she'll take any like that and I'd rather she carried on having milk and weaned off bottle gradually.

Hi Oma and paranoidmummy!

Molly much better last night - slept til 5, the woke and moaned - I went in to her, gave her her little mouse comforter thingy, said to her 'Bog off and go to sleep cos I'm not getting up now. Oh yes and love you' and she did! Clearly being mean in sleep-deprived manner is best

LadyBee · 06/03/2009 13:41

Oh, I read it as one sip since the nursing strike - sorry! , sounds like he's getting plenty of calcium through other foods. We use cream cheese quite a lot in pasta sauces etc - I'm sure you've thought of that too
Hello Paranoidmummy, what is CVS? I'm having a complete blank on that - keep thinking of that thing where they try rotate a breech baby, but it's not that because you're not that far along are you..

Peachy · 06/03/2009 14:22

The calcium is my worry too-if he stops feeding from me as again wont drink milk substitutes and cheese etc all out- ikes his soya calcium fortified yoghurt for brekkie though.

Only cup he will take from is a doidy cup
