Hello.

Trace I went with your idea!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Verso · 28/02/2009 16:53

yes i usu feed midnight, 3am and 5am - she used to miss out the 3am one. sorry post was misleading!

am mixed- waiting for tablets to kick in... got some sleep last nt at my mum's though am so wired i had nightmares and woke up intermittently thinking i could hear dd2 crying. am bitofamess!!

hanging in there though... night nanny recommended waking dd2 for feeds at 8pm and 10pm to try to get her long bit of sleep shifted to a better time. so trying it even though it feels so wrong to wake her. thing can't get any worse!

Veggiemummy · 28/02/2009 17:14

Cat if you wanted to keep one feed as EBM and then use the other bottle of EBM to mix with the formula I think that would be fine. It doesn't have to be exactly half and half just make sure you shake and mix the formula first then add the EBM and give it a little swill.

Oh I think I want to go to the August one now, it is a lot cheaper and DH wouldn't have to take a week off work. Oh oh oh what to do. Could always have another child and go to Ibiza later.

Lady I think I prefer Poppy, if I had a girl I wanted to call her Poppy I love the name and it sounds really nice with our surname. DH vetoed it both times and then we only had boys so will never have the chance to try to push the issue.

jumpjockey · 28/02/2009 20:02

Hello everyone, just had a very rough couple of days with DD - DH just coped with her as she shrieked for an hour solid [sob] and has finally fallen asleep, still in her daytime clothes. I think she might be having her 3 month growth spurt, as she wants to feed all the time but then when she takes to the boob she feeds for about 5 minutes only then starts fussing and pushing herself away. [sob again]

SL yikes about the rat! Hope that's it and there aren't more of the little sods hanging about.

veggie hope you've recovered from your yoga injury, seems so incongruous to be hurt by it! These summer yoga retreats sound blissful.

very exciting major and trace and all these people gettin out for the evening! Hurrah for social lives returning!

and also hurrah for people with good job news whether DPs or their own jobs.

Gah. Sorry everyone else, am utterly exhausted and have very little brain power. Will catch up another time

Cat I mentioned it to DH and I'm sure I saw a little relief in his eyes in the form of £ signs as the Wales trip is a fair bit cheaper doesn't entail a flight or a whole week of his annual leave. Will email them and let them know I've changed my mind. Oh how cool we will have a little mamaheaven MN meet up, anyone else?

Also Cat I think you were saying a friend said holidays aren't really holidays anymore with kids, it's not true I love travelling even more with LOs I have done loads of solo flying with ds1 inc 2 trips back home to Australia and it is fine. We traveled to loads of great places before ds1 was born and had brill times but with kids in tow it is still fun, we have also slowed down a bit more we used to try to do a million and one things in a day and see as many places in a country as possible now we take it a bit slower and actually enjoy one place at a time. You tend
to meet more of the locals, kids are great ice breakers. Well speaking of which it is ds2s first flight tomorrow to Munich very excited as have been reading up and Munich sounds great! I'm going to take the boys to the zoo the English garden (intrigued by that one) and also a big pub called the Hofbrauhaus! Apparently they love kids and it is a very happy noisey touristy pub with a german band and they are happy for kids to get up on the tables to dance.

Sorry to hear about you DD having a hard time JJ. Ds2 is crying a bit lately, as did ds1 at this time. In both cases they want to knaw at my finger and seem very relieved by me rubbing their gums. So I have always assumed it is teething. The teeth are their they are just growing and moving their way up. Feeding can be uncomfortable while teething too, but they often need a bit more as they have extra calcium requirements for the teeth. You could try some teething powders lick your finger and put it into the powders and then rub it onto her gums keep going til you have used a whole sachet. If that helps but doesn't last long see if you can get some Chamomilla 30c I get mine from our homeopath but I think you can buy it online. I've only ever seen 6c in boots.

The yoga injury is my own fault it is a bit early post birth to be doing that sequence as it is 3 poses in one that needs to be done smoothly and with a lot of control, it requires upper arm and core strength which I clearly do not have.

Veggiemummy · 28/02/2009 20:50

Oops there was a cheeky 'their' in that instead of 'there'.

lal07 · 28/02/2009 21:19

LadyT flat was in soho - lived there first for a few years and then in Brewer St until DS was 6 months. Aye me. I loved it. But we just didn't have enough space. My long term plan is to move back there though - once I can cope with 'What are poppers mummy?'.

I love the name Willow. Genius. We were literally on the steps of the hospital when we'd had our 20 week scan and knew DS was a boy when DH asked how old you had to be to play cricket. So count myself lucky that it's only cats that have to be named after cricketers.

Don't really know where to start with IL antics. Premier antic - which is something they have done from when DS was born - is just really often referring to themselves as mummy and daddy. Of our children. Wearing. And a little bit mad.

Cat I love the thought that I wasn't just shopping for me - it was for Britain goddamit. I bought the dress, and some tops. Marvelous. Does that get me an MBE?

Trace am hoping you're having a good night out.

Kayz I love Whitby. Such a pretty town. And great fish and chips. We didn't have holiday last year for various reasons. And really feel it now - hope you can find something - and more importantly that your DH finds something soon.

Arti at your pregnancy scare.

Jump am sorry you've had a rough few days. Growth spurts are an absolute bugger.

And Veggie Poppy is a lovely name...

Have just had large glass of wine and some lovely Neal's Yard cheese for supper. Not being pregnant is the business.

Veggiemummy · 28/02/2009 21:39

Lal my mum does that accidently and that annoys me a little but to do it on purpose is a little weird, in fact a lot weird.

DH is out tonight and I am sitting here on my own and was thinking about my sweet little ds1 we told him tonight that Germany invented the sausage and there is basically nothing else to eat but big fat sausages for breakfast lunch and tea. Bless him his eye nearly popped out of his head, we could see him just contemplating all that sausage in his lovely little head. He is now soooo excited about going there, he usually is excited when we go places esp on a plane but this time it includes vast quantities of sausage so his life has taken on a new meaning. We may never get him to leave.

rosmerta · 01/03/2009 07:56

Just popping on quickly, I wanted to look up the Mamaheaven retreats but can only see Ibiza & Herefordshire? Veggie, have you got a link to them? Thanks

kayzr · 01/03/2009 08:08

Morning,

We have found a little place in Whitby we may be able to afford. People will probably find us wierd as we're only an hour away by bus but we love it there.

We had an okish night here. DS2 woke up at half 3 which was a shock as he normally runs like clockwork and wakes at 5. Then DS1 woke up but we got him to go back to sleep in his bed!!! It was great.

OP posts:
daisydora · 01/03/2009 10:19

kayz Whitby is great we took DD when she was one, we had the best time!!

W are going to Cyprus in 6 weeks and we have just booked a week in Devon in August which will be great as we can add a visit to my sisters in Plymouth at the same time

DS was quite good last night although he is really started to fuss with the boob when feeding...I'm hoping its just because he's still full of cold. DD however was a sod! Awake from 12 till 2 and then DS woke at 2.30 for a feed

kmp1 · 01/03/2009 11:45

Hi! This will be short as lap top broke in the US so using phone! ladyt holiday was great! Thanks for asking about me! Wasn't even lurking as comp broke after last post so its back to PC World today! B was an angel on holiday and plane etc but has had major wind issues and is very irritable since getting home yesterday. Will post more later but it has been impossible to catch up esp on phone so have just scanned!very curious about this mama heaven thing?

traceface · 01/03/2009 19:20

hello all!

jj sorry you've been having a rotten time. Hope she settles down soon.

Well yesterday didn't quite go as planned...After P had refused the bottle the other night I felt quite nervous about leaving her with the in-laws, so decided to give her a bottle yesterday morning, just to prove to myself that she'd be fine - anyway she was having none of it! So I told DH I couldn't leave her with no means of feeding her (and he agreed!) and also L was still quite under the weather, so rather than leave the girls and go out, we just all had lunch together at the IL's house. So I didn't have to leave her and it wasn't deliberate sabotage on my part! The best laid plans and all that...!

Lucy has turned the corner and has been much brighter today, although she's covered in a rash now (not pox!). I took her out on her bike for a bit earlier and was running to keep up with her - it felt really odd in my nether regions - like lots of pressure - very strange [hmm. It's the first time I've run since having P!

Tomorrow I have the joy of a smear test..I'm so glad - it's been far too many weeks since anyone foraged around in my lady-zone

I have a very large pile of ironing to do tonight. grrrr. Why does society say our clothes must not be wrinkled?!

I ate a choc dip earlier!!!! They are so yummy and remind me of being 10! I seem to be hungry so much at the moment - not sure if it's the BF or if I've just turned into a glutton!

right - need some tea...

hope you've had good weekends xxx

Turniphead1 · 01/03/2009 19:42

Hi y'all. trace you sound really chipper. If you don't mind my saying - maybe your appetite being better is to do with you being happier. I remember back a couple of months when you were maybe more anxious you said you couldn't eat/ Just a theory! Glad L is on the mend - poor pet.

Kayz an hours commute to a holiday destination seems very good to me!! Glad you got sorted. Not been to Whitby but hear tis lovely.

jump sorry you had such a shocker yesterday. Hope S is more settled and you get some rest - hugs.

KMP hi !! you are sucha globe trotter!

dasiy sorry you had a tough night. Lets hope for more sleep tonight.

rosemerta hi - I think Mamaheaven only do hereford and ibiza unless i misread.

I had a great night last night. Went to a dinner party at my best friends (one expecting twins) and had really good craic. Drank far too much (hic) we brought L and she was a total poppet. I fed her after dinner and then gave her an EBM top uo (well the Dad to be did it for practice ) and then she just sat in people's arms wide awake but totally relaxed until she dozed off an hour later. I was full of maternal pride and warn glow fuelled by the best part of a bottle of fine red and a glass of champagne! Got home at 1.30 and then DD slept til 6.15. I fed her lying in bed (not feeling at all well.... and she slept til 8 which wasn't too bad. Rest of day not as bad as expected given overhang!

Bit worried about my DH tho he is very stressed about job situation and in bad form. Cooking my chorizo and prawn pasta dish - yum. And hair of the dog...given that we have a no booze during week rule .

traceface · 01/03/2009 19:53

you know Turnip I think you're right. I am feeling chipper and am generally enjoying life and motherhood...I think the increased dose of happy pills has kicked in! It's nice that it's noticeable

your night out sounds fab! L sounds like she did a good job of promoting babyhood to your pregga friends!

Evening all, another one here feeling much cheerier than yesterday. DD made up for her last few days by being an angel today - slept last night from 7 until 12, then again until 4 this is unheard of! Went to visit my dad today and she had 3 proper naps, and was really lovely and playful all day. Hurrah! And went to bed just now fairly awake but settled herself off happily. Something in the water maybe! Oh and she took some EMB from that wacky bottle as well so we may at last have cracked the 'freedom for mother once in a while' issue

veggie thanks for the hint re teething, she certainly dribbles for Britain so it may well all be starting. That's so funny about your DS and his sausage obsession! As I always say, I do like a nice helping of hot sausage

Really glad to hear lots of people are getting out and about and socialising again, gives the rest of us hope

kayz we used to go to Whitby when I were a nipper, lots of happy childhood memories, you'll have a fab time

trace with you on the ironing, it's just such a big timewaster as things only get crinkled again afterwards. I used to have to iron all my dad's shirts on a Sunday evening ready for the week. Slavery it was, slavery! (well actually I did it to earn my allowance so fair enough...)

turnip sounds like a fabby night out, and bless little L for being quite the socialite

daisy how hilarious about your MIL, weaning at 2-3 months does seem a little previous...

cat re the windy problem, is it worth trying a different bottle? the one we used today www.breastflow.co.uk/ is much more like a breast, they have to latch on and use the same kind of jaw motion as bfing, and the way the teat works means no air can get in like with most other bottles.

Right - fish fingers and oven chips for tea tonight we know how to live the high life, oh yes hope everyone has a good night, good luck all for the week

kmp1 · 01/03/2009 21:06

till haven't caught up, and still dealing with upset windy baby but very interested in this mamaheaben thing - is there a group of us going? I feel so out of the loop! I'd be interested! In much need of a weekend of pampering if that's what it is !! is cheerfulness involved or is it totally healthy? I'm thinking it's not.... I haven't looked at the website yet....That might be the deal breaker!!
8cat* I agree, they don't elaborate on the wind issues at all do they - in fact they nobody really mentions it!! there should be a book written solely on it for heavens sake!
Right -- B is happy for a second - must cook ddinner!

am back from the lovely wedding in wales - MIL behaved herself (after a few initial hiccoughs, however), so alas no corkers to report. am also ridiculously tired. am posting a picture of dd in the outfit MIL bought for her for the wedding. i think dd's face says it all. will catch up soon.

zoejeanne · 01/03/2009 22:45

So of all the holiday talk ? we?ve been trying to organise a long weekend to the lakes or dales or similar with some friends, all of whom (who?) have DC?s too ? but can you believe we haven?t got a weekend we can all do up until the end of July So we?re now saying that we?ll fix a date for next May/June so we know we?ll have time to go together. I had a feeling this might be our only holiday this year as DH is self employed, and so won?t ever take time off work. Will have to work on him for some time in September, maybe ? Cat we have a bush baby carrier that a friend gave us, and so far its worked well (but only used it 3 times). DD seems quite comfortable, but I worry she?ll suffocate with her face pressed to my chest so think I?ll be happier when she?s big enough to face forwards.

Kayz I?m another Whitby lover and it was voted best UK holiday destination last year at the national tourism awards, by us by the sound of all the votes of approval it's recieved! In fact we (DH and I) were just talking about how nice Whitby is today, and agreed that Robin Hoods Bay is even nicer (but not a place for prams with that huge hill). And it?s not weird to go there ? last year we went to Pickering for a weekend (isn?t that where you live?) and it only took us 35 minutes to get there!

KMP welcome back to the UK

Turnip your poor DH, too many people with job worries. I do hope his sort themselves out quickly.

Verso what a horrific ?timetable? your DD follows , you are amazing to be getting through this. Have you tried the cluster feeding in the evening? I really hope it (or something) works for you and DD2. We have started to feed DD at 6 and 8 in the evening before bed, since last week (used to feed 4.30/5 ish and then 8) and then we tried a dream feed at 10 ? DD wouldn?t wake for the dream feed at all or take anything - but the closer together evening feeds seem to be keeping her asleep for 6-7 hours ? she?s now just waking once at 2.30/3ish and then again at 6.30am (although she won?t sleep again after that). I wish you lots of luck with it.

WG ?love? the dress! But a bit you have no MIL corkers to report. (Also I had the dress version of the spotty maternity top you?re wearing in another photo and loved it and wore it loads, packed away now, til next time)

Trace I?ve just had a letter this week about a smear test and I have worked myself up into a right lather about it (spent 2 hours awake last night fretting about it) and I am convinced that it will rip open my tear and all the stitches again. Without wanting to pry too much, can you let me know how yours goes and if its any worse than normal? As I?m still too scared to have sex with DH yet, god knows how I?ll cope with a smear. But as we all know right now, I would be stupid not to have it.

Phew, caught up, so will take snoring DH up to bed and hopefully be snoring myself v soon. Night night, and sleep tight everyone x

SummerLightning · 01/03/2009 23:05

Evening all, am at my parents house as DH is off snowboarding.
Getting spoilt rotten which is just great, and getting loads of time out from DS which is ace, even though I love him lots obviously. Went shopping with my sil who was also staying this morning and been on two bike rides on my own as well. Obviously spend the whole time worrying that DS is going mental at home but he wasn't!
kayz my SILs family are from whitby so my bro got married near there. It is indeed very nice, we stayed somewhere near whitby in a lovely b&B have forgotten what it was called but it was on the coast but a few miles from whitby.
We still haven't organised a holiday yet either, someone did say to me that it's a good idea to holiday before they are weaned though then (if you are bfing) you don't need to take stuff with you. So might look into it soon! I guess it is a particularly bad idea to go right on the time you are starting to wean?? Would you experienced second timers agree with that?
WG oh dear to the dress. Great photo! Did make me laugh though! I too was hoping for some MIL corkers, damn.
jj glad things are on the up! And hurray for freedom, let me know when you want to head down the pub for a pissup then!
kmp glad you had a good holiday. I have to admit to having a good giggle at your DH taking his bike as that is exactly the kind of thing I get in trouble for (though even I have to admit that taking a bike with baby paraphenalia seems a little excessive). My dad said I was "crackers" when i turned up with my bike here!
trace hurrah for being happier!
veggie I laughed at lot at your DS and his sausage heaven. He does sound like such a little character.
turnip your night out sounds ace! I appreciate nights out so much more now I have ds. Well night out as I have only had one . Hope your DH's job worries get sorted.
Oh quick update on the rats, mr rat man said that we had done his job for him by chasing out the rat, and that there are unlikely to be more if i think that it came in when I left the door open. Next door have been given 1 week to clear up their rubbish which I think is far too long and I am sure they won't do, but we shall see.
Right I had better go to bed!

Morning,

WG The dress is lovely, shame there are no MIL stories to report.

ZJ We do live in Pickering. I do agree that Robin Hood's Bay might be a place for using a sling rather than the pram. Same if you wanted to go up to Whitby Abbey.

SL Glad the rats have gone, hopefully the neighbours will tidy up.

I've decided to take the plunge and dye my hair. I've wanted to dye it black for years but never had the courage. So Mum is doing it for me on Wednesday. We're going to go and see her pigs she got on Saturday.

DS1 slept all night again which was nice. DS2 woke at 3, it is strange how you get used to their sleeping patterns. He has normally always woken at 5 so these mornings waking at 3 feel more tiring.

Hope you are all well.
