Indith - not been in lately but GAP usually have quite a few long sleeved vests. Or next? And Phoebe has not joined the sleep brigade yet either!

JollyBear · 21/02/2009 14:45

Hello all,

ladyT We only have one car between us. After DH's car gave in unexpectedly about three years ago we started sharing my car as a temp arrangement but realised that it wasn't worth the expense of another car. I was a bit at first, it felt like merging our CD collection or something! I'd certainly give sharing a go when you pass your test - you can always get a car if it doesn't work out. Your three hour lessons sound exhausting!

indith H&M have long sleeved vests which have a wrap around fastening so you don't have to put it over their head. Very handy. They do come in continental sizes though e.g 0-1 month, 2-4 months. Lovely colours and some jazzy fabrics too.

DD is in her big cot now! Where's all the time going?... .

kayzr · 21/02/2009 18:04

Jolly We're thinking of putting DS2 in his cot as he is quickly filling his moses basket. But I think he'll look tiny in his cot.

Someone asked me when the baby was due earlier. I have vowed never to leave the house without my girdle on and to do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day without fail.

Aaaaarghhhhh!! Day from hell here - DH and I suffering from a nasty cold, DS1 also unwell but still too active for our fragile selves, hence lots of screaming and utter hysterics by bedtime (DS1 thar is, me not far behind!). DS2 in contrast angelic tho a little surprised by all the noise...

DH is now convinced we are Bad Parents and that 2 yos don't behave like this - my trouble is that I know what to do in theory (ignore the bad, praise the good, don't give in to whining/tantrums) but am crap at putting it into practice. I find this parenting stuff HARD. Lord knows what I'll do when they're teenagers and we have real problems.

Indith: hope you get some good advice on the feeding. If it's the let-down, have you tried block feeding, i.e. 1 side only for several feeds then switch? Oh, and DS2 is still waking several times at night as well

Veggiemummy · 21/02/2009 19:11

Hello just quickly popping in. Went to a party with both ds' today it was a little boy from ds1's nursery. I quite like all the nursery parents so was nice to see them. Ds1 is a bit of a favourite amongst the nursery kids and their mums so he was entertaining them all. However, he has had a temp last night and again just now, but was ok this morning so I took him along and now he suddenly has spots that are coming up fast and look suspiciously like chicken pox! Oh my goodness I've just realized not only has he just spent the afternoon with 20 kids and their parents, he has spent the last week with loads of his little friends and 2 pregnant women in London. Bugger.

Lady dh and I have always shared a car but then, he prefers catching trains for work so it never really clashes.

Kayz there is no real limit to when they can swim if he likes it then go for it, I have gotten a little float seat for ds2 so I can take ds1 to the pool as he lives swimming and I think it will be something nice for them to do together. The only thing I would say is be careful of him swollowing water, there have been cases though rare of babies swollowing large amounts of water at the pool and ending up with water intoxication, this is were the water floods their little system and messes up their electrolytes. Otherwise enjoy. I think you can get swim nappies in small otherwise the non disposable ones would fit and are only about £5-£6 at toys r us or somewhere like that.

EffiePerine · 21/02/2009 19:11

oh and the nicest vests I have are some v indulgent organic cotton ones from Frugli: long sleeves, lovely soft fabric. Only have 2 as they are £££ but I loves 'em.

EffiePerine · 21/02/2009 19:13

Oh no Veggie! I was wondering if DS1's temp could be the start if the pox (he hasn't had it yet) and crossing everything...

kayzr · 21/02/2009 19:32

Thats good then Veggie. DS1 loves swimming so looking forward to taking them. We have a seat and some swimming nappies left over from DS1. I just need to get some armbands for DS1.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 21/02/2009 23:02

Yeah Effie I'm so glad I didn't bring ds1 to the meet up, imagine how popular I would be then exposing all those lovely babies and your gorgeous ds1 to cheeky chicken pox. I wouldn't be very welcome at the next meet up then.

I think greenbaby has a sale of their winter stuff at the moment and they usually have long sleeved vests.

Oh and forgot to say as well as the high temp etc ds1 also wowwed the crowds by vomiting up his party food...nice.

kayzr · 22/02/2009 02:27

Morning. DS1 has been sick everywhere and now thinks it is playtime. DS2 has woken up too so its a bit mad here. So i thought i'd test the internet on my new mobile. Hope you are all asleep.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 22/02/2009 07:26

kayz poor you! Hope you got back to sleep

Effie, 2yr olds do behave like that! Just remember to be consistent & I found that realising what the 'flashpoints' are meant I could distract ds1 before he really got going. It was usually hunger, boredom or tiredness.

veggie, hope ds1 is ok. If it is chicken pox the other mums might be happy it turned into a pox party?! Thanks for swimming advice as well.

Ds1 also loves swimming & we tend to go every weekend. I did think about putting ds2 in the creche so ds1 could do something on his own with me during the week, especially as he will be starting nursery in Sept so I won't have as much time with him

kayzr · 22/02/2009 07:48

Nope we haven't been back to sleep apart from a few 10 minutes here and there.

Out of hours GP said a D&V bug is going round so no doubt we'll get it too. I just hope DS2 doesn't get it.

Verso · 22/02/2009 07:51

Indith I am so glad I'm not the only one with a baby that doesn't sleep seven hours straight! DD2 sometimes does six, which I think is fab really, so I'm not complaining as I had it much worse last time round. It's the 3am-6:30am slot I find tough. (Make that midnight-6:30am last night...) I'm sorry you're having feeding problems this time round. I was really surprised when DD2 didn't take to BF as quickly/well as DD1. I hope you get some useful advice.

Well after the excitement of going to work and also actually having a night out with DH last week, this week looms very long and large ahead. However I will be going swimming as I've joined a gym which has a creche, and I have a lunch date midweek too. Hurrah!

effie we found with DD1 that the most important things were being clear and consistent, and making sure she was well-rested. So we would tell her in the morning what the plan for the day was and would stick to it so she knew what was what. She never really did the "terrible twos" as such. I'm thinking we may not be so lucky with DD2, but will definitely use the same approach.

Am very very tired this morning. Unfortunately DH seems to be having a relapse at the moment which is affecting his walking and speech, so although he's being mega-helpful I feel bad asking.

kayzr · 22/02/2009 13:45

I've rung the out of hours GP again for DS1 as he is really hot and he was just crying unconsolably(sp) but it seems sponging him down with tepid water and putting on Tom and Jerry seems to have solved the crying. He has had some more calpol. Just waiting for them to ring back.

Oh and always have a spare battery for your thermometer. We've just tried to take DS1's temp and the battery has run out!!

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 22/02/2009 15:05

sorry your DS is poorly Kayz, hope the telly and pink stuff sorts him out

kayzr · 22/02/2009 17:05

Hello,

Just got back from hospital. The GP said she doesn't know what is wrong with him but if he keeps up the unconsolable(sp) crying in the next 4 hours to take him to Scarborough hospital for lots of tests. Not quite sure how we are meant to get there as MIL is working at the theatre and mum is out. The GP did say that he will probably sleep alot as he was up most of the night.

OP posts:
waitinggirl · 22/02/2009 18:40

kayz - thinking of you - must be so scary. hope he does sleep lots and feels better in the morning.

traceface · 22/02/2009 19:27

Oh Kayz poor you and DS1. Really hope he's calming down and that you don't have to go to Scarborough. Hope that Calpol and Cuddles do the trick. Keep us posted.

kayzr · 22/02/2009 20:34

He is fast asleep now. We think the crying could be caused by nappy rash. It has come on just today probably caused by all the runny nappies he has had. So changing alot and plenty of cream. I feel drained and I don't think I will get any sleep tonight.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 22/02/2009 20:37

Your probably already using this but Metanium is great for nasty bad poo nappy rash.

kayzr · 22/02/2009 20:40

Nope we have Bepanthen. Only just heard of Metanium from a friend about 10 minutes ago. Going to take him to see our normal GP tomorrow and hope we get some decent cream. It is really bad, he has never really got it before.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 22/02/2009 21:08

Oh yeah get it prescribed then it free I think some of those creams can be a bit pricey. I paid £9.50 for a cream to reduce ds1s itch I realized afterwards that I could have got it prescribed instead.

Veggiemummy · 22/02/2009 23:36

Have uploaded some recent photos of my cheeky boys, I must warn you there is some nudity.

Goodnight hope none of you are on here in the wee hours esp you kayz you need some sleep tonight.

Right off to bed with my spotty boy, ds1 came into our bed with his spot about half an hour after we put him to bed. I came up to feed ds2 and found him here. Dh is going to sleep in ds1s room as he has an early train to catch. He has obtained loads of kids movies for us on the computer (no idea how ) so as to keep us entertained for our week in quatrantine. He will be back from west molling on Friday. Unless he breaks out in chicken pox in the mean time.

Olipop · 23/02/2009 07:13

Morning! Sorry about the chicken pox. DS1 has had it twice so could get it again as he only had it mildly. Kayz, sorry you have such a poorly one. Hope things are better this morning.
Effie, just this weekend we have instigated the 'simmer down chair' (this will sound familiar to anyone who watches Charlie and Lola). DS is getting a bit stroppy and defiant at the moment.
Ros hope you had a nice peaceful day on Saturday. I can't find that book (went to two shops) think I'll have to order it online.

We had a lovely weekend. Took a picnic and the stomp rocket (brilliant piece of kit) to Bushey Park on Saturday. Sunday we went up to the big smoke (DH drove which I always find a total luxury!) and we took a boat up to The Tower of London and had another picnic and then came back and went along the South Bank for a while. It was lovely.

Heidi was a bit snuffly and disturbed last night. I ended up sleeping with her on my chest...not good I know.

I've set the cot up although it is in her nursery and she will continue to sleep the night in our room but I thought I could settle her in there in the day and before I go to bed.
Does anyone know why they say sleeping in your room helps prevent sids? I just keep reading that it does but no explanation as to why?

rosmerta · 23/02/2009 08:24

Kayz, hope ds1 is better this morning.

Oli, it does seem to be a hard book to get hold of unless you get it online! Saturday was nice though I don't feel like I got very much done even though I was rushing around all day!

We drive into London quite a bit on Sundays as its usually free parking! Hyde Park's a good place to go.
