Hi fatbetty - I forgot to answer last time - I love it here! We're having a great time and while we miss our families London has been a great move for us. Slug - I agree - I've just e-mailed you and we'll do the library soon.

tex111 · 29/06/2005 12:57

How did I miss this thread?! I'm from Texas, been here almost 12 years (yikes!) and have a little boy who is 2, almost 3, and am expecting a little girl 7 Nov. I'm in Chislehurst at the moment (hello fatbetty!) but moving to Blackheath in the next couple of months.

Jen and Slug, looks like we'll be quite near each other. Let's definitely arrange to get together.

I'm trying to start up an American Mommy & Me group through the US college alumni associations in London. Our first meeting is on Friday and anyone is welcome to come along. It's Friday 1 July at 2.00pm at the Starbucks in Jubilee Place, Canary Wharf. Fatbetty and I will be there and I'm going to bring a 4th of July craft project to keep the kiddies busy. It would be great is some of you guys could come too!

Just giving this a bump to the front page.

jenweber630 · 01/07/2005 17:57

I'm so bummed I missed it! Let me know when the next one is - my e-mail is [email protected] if you've started a notification list.

tex111 · 02/07/2005 09:54

Hi Jen, I'll add you to the email list. I think the next one will be in 2-3 weeks and probably in central London this time to accomodate the majority of people. I'll go ahead and post the details here too in case anyone else is interested.

Do you have any ideas for a venue in central London? I'm thinking of the Coffee Bar at Tate Modern or maybe the cafe at Waterstone's at Piccadilly Circus. Some of the Moms have either just arrived in England or not spent very much time in London so I'd like to arrange it somewhere where there are things to see and do if they want to squeeze in some sightseeing or shopping.

Hope you can come to the next one!

Oh - I have a thought! Maybe not right away, but after the
summer holiday we could meet at the aquarium - it's right near embankment and the London Eye and I think a great place to take the kids. Waterstone's and Tate Modern sound good though - too bad more mums aren't in the east!! I'm in Blackheath right south of Greenwich and Canary Wharf is so convenient for me... Anyway - I look forward to your e-mail!

Happy 4th of July to you all! I tried to get DH to wear an Star and Stripes Band-Aid in honour of this day (as he was looking for a Band-Aid for his injured finger), but shot me down with a rather evil look. Told him that I would go out today and buy an American flag to hang outside our house.

Include me in too on those updates as I would love to get together and meet other American mums. Feeling a bit alone as I've just had 2 of my American friends move back to the States. Now it's just you and me, tex111!

tex111 · 04/07/2005 14:41

Jen, the aquarium is a great idea. One of the other Moms comes into Waterloo from Weybridge so that would be really convenient for her. She's actually a Mom-to-be, about 35 weeks into her first pregnancy and I'm sure she'd love an easy outing like that in Sept or Oct when the baby is here.

We just a had our offer accepted this morning on a flat in Blackheath! So excited. It's on Quentin Road, which I believe is actually Lewisham but it's a nice short walk into the village. I don't think we'll be moving until Oct (about a month before my due date!) but really, really looking forward to it.

Fatbetty, just tried to call you. Can't wait to tell you all about the flat!

tex111 · 04/07/2005 14:41

And Happy 4th to everyone!

jenweber630 · 05/07/2005 13:37

Congrats Tex!! You will love Blackheath - we just can't believe our luck in finding the place that we did. And the aquarium this fall sounds great! Looking forward to meeting all of you!

The US Mommy & Me group that I'm organising is planning our next get together for Friday 15 July at 2.00pm at the cafe in the Princess Diana Memorial Playground in Hyde Park. Jen and Fatbetty, you should be getting my email.

Anyone else who wants to come along is more than welcome!

jenweber630 · 07/08/2005 22:48

Hey tex - have you made it to Blackheath yet? All going well with your pregnancy??

Hi,

My husband is in the process of discussing a transfer from Italy and is deciding betwen NY and London. We're British but neither of us have actually lived in London before. If we decided on London over NY, he'd be working in the City. I'm wondering if anyone could give me any advice on good places to live with kids. We have a daughter of 5 and a little boy of 2. We'd like to be in a good state (public) school area. We've looked at Maida Vale and South Hampstead. Any other ideas or suggestions would be great! And any other peeps who've done NY and London would be handy as we can't make our mind up!

Thank you!
