Hello, i am an american mum living here in London, my son is 19 mos old, so i am not sure if its still considered "new" but i would like to meet other american mums

fatbetty · 25/04/2005 16:45

Hi there! I'm also probably not considered "new" as my sons are 2 and 9 months, but thought I would write anyways. Where in London do you live?

jenweber630 · 27/04/2005 05:16

Hi MissyM and fatbetty - I will be living in London as of next week (I'm moving from Seattle) in the Greenwich area but am more than happy to brave the tube to meet up. My ds is 4 1/2 months old. Where in London do you all live? Does anyone have any good ideas of where to meet? (We drove by the zoo in Regent's park a few times when I was there last and I would love to go...)

Jen

Hi Jenweber630, I sent you an email so I hope you get it. Best of luck on your move!

lunarx · 27/04/2005 11:31

i'm another american mom here, but not in london (but kent instead) =) ds is 10 months old have lived here for 2 years

fatbetty · 27/04/2005 13:01

I'm in Kent too. Where are you at Lunarx?

lunarx · 27/04/2005 14:49

i'm in wrotham (which is near borough green, not to far from sevenoaks and maidstone)

where are you at?

fatbetty · 27/04/2005 20:40

I'm in Chislehurst which is near Bromley. But we are moving in a couple weeks to Reigate - still not too far from Sevenoaks. Where in the States are you from? I'm originally from Colorado

lunarx · 27/04/2005 20:45

ooh maybe once you more and are settled, fatbetty, we could join a meetup?
i was born in PA, but lived in MD for a few years before moving here. (i consider MD more of my home than PA!)

fatbetty · 28/04/2005 09:19

That would be good lunarx. I'll keep you posted on the move. Are you over here for good or do you think you'll ever move back to the States?

lunarx · 28/04/2005 11:31

sounds good, fatbetty =) good luck with the move, we just moved to kent a month ago from bedfordshire... we have considered and talked about moving to the US in the next couple of years...

fatbetty · 28/04/2005 13:35

We have thought about moving back to the US too, but I don't know if I could really make that move. It's such a strange thing to say, I know, but it's such a big move. It took so long for me to feel comfortable over here that I wonder if it would be the same going back. If we do move back I would like to do it before the children are really settled into the school system here.

lunarx · 29/04/2005 20:18

thats how i feel too about moving back, i would want to do it before ds is too settled in school here.
how long have you lived over here?

fatbetty · 30/04/2005 15:59

been here for 6 years and only have really felt "at home" for the last 2.

Ameriscot2005 · 30/04/2005 16:11

Fatbetty,

I took school age children to the US and they settled really well. I think it's easier to move that way because they will already be a little ahead of the US, so they can focus on settling in rather than worrying about work.

My kids didn't have any trouble moving either direction, tbh.

fatbetty · 01/05/2005 17:05

That's really good to hear! I know children can easily adapt to situation - sometimes easier than adults. I think most of my anxiety lies with myself and if I could make the move back. It's hard enough moving house at the moment to some place that is only 45 minutes away. Do you live in the States now, Ameriscot2005?

Ameriscot2005 · 01/05/2005 18:17

No, not in the States now; we moved from Ohio to Surrey.

I've just come across this brand new website for American moms in the London area. Don't know if it is any good (and it can't possibly be as good as Mumsnet ), but it may be just what some of you are looking for.

Hi everyone -

Well - I'm finally here and after 4 weeks have e-mail. If any of you want to get together I'm happy to oblige and willing to travel.

I''m a bit slow in noticing this thread. But, I am American and my children are 2 yrs (girl) and 2 weeks (boy). I live in Sunbury.

fatbetty · 05/06/2005 22:15

Hi Jen!

Hope your move over was smooth and you are settling in. How are you finding things?

slug · 06/06/2005 12:09

Hi Jen, not that I'm American (I'm Kiwi), but how was the move? I live on the Lewisham/Greenwich/Blackheath border, so you can't be too far away from me.

jenweber630 · 09/06/2005 00:04

Hey slug - I'm in the same area right off the heath... I saw a message from you on another thread talking about the play groups and I've been trying to get in touch with the facilitators and am having a hard time doing that! However, other than that, things are going well. My husband and I feel like we're living in a dream - London is just such a fabulous place to live. We're excited to explore more of Europe (my hubby's not been anywhere but England) but are quite content taking small day trips around the countryside. I'm going a bit spare however with not having a car and not knowing a lot of people but that is slowly changing.

slug · 09/06/2005 15:07

Hey, you must be walking distance away. We should meet up. As my dear old dotty mum says 'Never underestimate the usefulness of a potential babysitter'
