Hi - welcome to the new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Have had a good day today. A slept in the cot in the morning then we went to the cinema (Milk - it's good, I recommend) and he had a couple of feeds and slept on my chest for half an hour, missed about 10 minutes of the film changing a pooey nappy. Then went to the pub for lunch and he fell asleep on my chest then I transferred him to the stationary (sp?) pushchair where he remained asleep. This is a first in our world!

He's still got a cold though, so last night was a bit tough.

re: Weaning. We have a high chair my dad has given us, so won't be buying another (unless it gets caked in crap that can't be shifted). Have dusted down the steamer and made sure it still works. Still another 4 weeks to go till we start in earnest. Am actually looking forward to blw, have rose-tinted visions of sitting in cafes handing bits of salad and bread to A who munches merrily whilst I sip my latte and read the paper. (I sort of do this now, but with A attached to my boob).

clever boy you got there starlight! I'm hoping to fool DS early on into thinking salad and steamed veg is real food.

ninja · 28/01/2009 20:49

re High Chairs - I had this type of thing for DD1 (as we only had a breakfast bar) and I found it really handy as it travelled easily.

I really fancy a tripp trapp type - all my friends who have them swear by them (but then wouldn't you if you'd paid that much!!) Are the cheapy versions really not as good?

Starlight when I was a child (but old enough to know better) I once blew my nose wth lettuce, so I know where your DS is coming from!!

sunshine glad she's getting better, fingers crossed for work...

I've got one of those big plastic reclining things (and bought by friends in Italy, so had to wait for both my parents to come together to bring it over, we were going for the IKEA one otherwise). I did like it though as it could fit under the table so we mainly used it at the table, and great for those few times he fell asleep at the table.

lollipop congratulations! did pluck the courage last week but had to stop straight away, as the scar is still a bit sore, though I think it's more psychological now because of the other problems, as I know things are different, and after having seen the nurse on Monday who said she was expecting me to have a lot better pelvic floor and stronger grip at my age, well, I'm even more paranoid.

foxytocin · 29/01/2009 03:05

that's got owt to do with me starlight

plusonemore · 29/01/2009 08:12

tired

after quite a few good nights last night was not. Typical, after I'd been out with my mates and could have really done with a good sleep. Up at 1 and 3 for feeding and then up and awake at 5. He had 2nd jabs yesterday, do you think they could affect him in this way or am i just kidding myself?

plusonemore · 29/01/2009 08:13

oh, and i reckon the obaby has nearly as many adjustable positions as the TT (not as low down), and i have emailed them to see if the bar is removeable!

lollipopmother · 29/01/2009 08:27

Plusonemore - Definitely could effect him like that, it does for my DD, she wakes in the night because she won't feed properly after her jabs so she catches up at night.

lollipopmother · 29/01/2009 08:31

WATER BABIES LADIES - Yesterday we were given goggles and the teacher took each baby individually and initiated an under-water swim, I went under too and DD swam towards me and I scooped her up, it was AMAZING!! I mean mind blowingly amazing! We did it twice, can't wait to get back there and do it again.

DD has gone from doing a couple of very fluky rolls to rolling all over the ruddy place, I can't leave her on her own now, she's ruined everything!!

notsoslimnow · 29/01/2009 09:24

hi all, hope everyone is feeling well rested etc ...(ha ha as if!)
those of you who attend waterbabies............i want to take oscar but my local class is at 5pm and he eats at 4pm! how do you all manage eating around swimming???

imoscarsmum · 29/01/2009 09:59

Just caught up so excuse randomness!

Foxy many thanks for succinct summary of BLW - I will take a look at website you mention.

Waterbabies - my class is at midday, so good timing for C who feeds at 10/10.30am.

Lollipopmother well done re swimming - I've yet to get a class where c doesn't cry but we've only had 2 so far.

Hopefully re sleeping. C sleeps 11/12 hrs a night but still needs a short nap in the morning and preferably a good 1.5hrs to 2 hrs in afternoon- maybe T needs more daytime naps to help him settle?

eandz · 29/01/2009 10:08

sunshine
sorry about work. curious about what sunshine does....

I glamorise all of you, you all know that right?

I'm glad that the nutramigen is working for your dd. it's not working for Noah. neither is the progestimil. with the two of these newer formulas he's been throwing up much much much more violently. but at least he's started to drink again. Last Thursday Noah only took 1 oz the whole day. So atleast he's drinking even though he throws up for a long time after each feed.

They make us go into St Marys everyday so they can see if anything has changed. Nothing has, it's getting worse and worse (as far as the vomiting goes) but because there isn't any green or red in the vomit they aren't too concerned. They refuse to give him any tests, I've asked for the Rast Test. They want to wait till Monday before they tell me anything (I don't really like waiting) my son is clearly distressed.

after a few hours everyday They send us home, and since I usually feel helpless after the hospital I end up at selfridges trying on things I won't buy.

Wednesday i accidentally left my blackberry in a shoe box and because the shoes had been put back the ringing was really annoying the stockroom guy. when i went back to get it yesterday the manager was showing me pictures of the deranged worker with all these shoe boxes emptied and strewn everywhere. I know it's funny but I can't really seem to laugh.

I am having a nightmare trying to do my tax return on line. I can't even get through the registration page even though I have all the correct codes and everything. I have been sitting on the phone for 3 days - finally got through and all the stupid girl could say was that I must be entering my details incorrectly!

Now they have de-registered me and it will take a week for the new code, so I'll be billed for a late fee. I can see me in about two weeks time composing a sob story letter about the unfairness of this and appealing against the fine. Wish I had done it on paper now. Bloody stupid "streamlined on line government services"!

Ponymum · 29/01/2009 11:45

eandz - rofl at your blackberry shoe box adventure. My only question is, did the shoes and the blackberry accessorise well together?

imoscarsmum · 29/01/2009 11:59

eandz I wish I could send a magic wand to make everything better - you and Noah really are having a tough time of it. I can't offer any words of advice but I do know that eventually things will get easier for you both. In the meantime, are there any mum & baby clubs you can go to (or arrange a mn meet?). Meeting up with other mums with babies is such a help and if your baby cries or is sick, you are with women who really do care.

It's only my experience but the paid for activities like baby sensory and waterbabies that we go to are for Charlotte. The mum & baby cafe I go to is for me and i have made some really good friends there. Spent tuesday morning eating cake and chatting with 2 other women while our babies looked at one another.

Did love your blackberry story though!

Stay strong - you are a great mum.

imoscarsmum · 29/01/2009 12:06

Oh, and someone mentioned weaning in RL (Hopefully?). I and one other woman I know are the only ones with similar age babies who have not yet weaned. Yesterday I met a baby born at end of Sept and had baby rice by xmas!

Feeding C is so easy at the moment, I'm too lazy to wean yet!!

eandz · 29/01/2009 12:06

ponymum
nope. the two did not make a nice combination.

eandz · 29/01/2009 12:08

lollipop
is that meet up still happening near parsons green?

lollyheart · 29/01/2009 12:31

eandz we are having a meet up in Basingstoke next tuesday if you fancy it, im not sure where you are.

Fraser was sleeping through the night but has gone backwards, waking 3 times in the night,im so tired.

I was trying to think why he has gone backwards is anything different, then i thought i now leave the landing light on because he is in his cot sharing a room with ds1,so i dont really want to turn his light on or trip over any toys and wake ds1 up,so tonight im going to turn the landing light off and see if that makes a difference.

jenpet · 29/01/2009 12:43

Phew - caught up finally. My 84 year old mil has returned to the UK today - been here since before Xmas. Calm has returned to the jenpet house!

Right, weaning. I've spent about 3 weeks reading up on whatever I can about the disadvantages, problems and what to be aware of if weaning before 26 weeks. I took S for his 5 month check 2 weeks ago & was aghast to discover he is now nearly 20lb!! Over 3 times his birth weight, exclusively from BM so after all the deliberation, and the last month or so feeding almost constantly, I took the decision to start slowly...as you can imagine, he eats everything! He really was hungry. So far it has been homemade puree - pear, sweet potatoe, pumpkin and carrot, but I'm going to venture into the hipp organic jars after the weekend as I want him to be used to both. I know it wouldn't be right for all babies, and I know the advice and risks. But it was the right thing to do for us, he is definately more settled and happy. On the high chair front, I had a tripp-trapp for DS1 which I stupidly gave away when we moved to France, never thinking I would need another one, so after extensive searching I've found one about 100 miles from us, 2nd hand which I've haggled down to 50 euros! I'm rather chuffed as I loved my other one...only problem is its the bright orange one! Never mind...
Right, onwards with the housework and double christening plans! xx

DebiTheScot · 29/01/2009 12:48

plusonemore our highchair in the Mothercare version of that one. Very similar. I don't know if they still do it though

jenpet · 29/01/2009 13:04

Hmmm, I know I'm shockingly behind the times, but I've just "got into" Facebook!! So I've asked if I can join the "due Sept 08" group! So if its still going, can I be allowed in too please? I'm Jennifer C. Can I say that out loud?
