I think I remember in the past we had some piccies of all the babies but I didn't know how to put one of ds on it. I now have some piccies I could email to someone to post if anyone is very IT literate cos I'm a dunce at it all

Hi Ladies,
Happy Birthday April babies!!
Dd is one on Sunday (April 10). We have been very busy 'doing' stuff over Easter and now I am back at work.
Dd is well and truly bum shuffling/crawling now - it's some kind of cross that she does, one leg under her and one leg behind her and she seems to pull herself along with her arms. Not as fast as crawling but fast enough for me, if you see what I mean. I can't believe the transformation in her over the last few weeks. She chats to herself constantly, grins and laughs all the time and she always had been quite a 'serious' baby.
Unfortunately we are at home together today, when I picked her up from nursery she looked 'ragged', eyes and nose streaming. Anyway this morning she woke up after 14 hours and sounded like soemone who smoked 60 fags-a-day and had terrible asthma - awful! I'm told this could be a precursor to chicken pox which is going around her nursery at the moment.
Oh well, she's happy enough at the moment..
Heck I have just retrieved a penny from her mouth, best go....

HD - we should get together again!

Glad you've had lovely trips away Chuffed and Fennel, I'm awfully envious, I'd love some proper sunshine now

MrsDoolittle · 07/04/2005 08:38

Oh I don't mean it's unfortunate we are at home together. I mean it's unfortunate dd is unwell, of course!!

Ponka · 07/04/2005 09:09

Happy Birthday April Babies!!! Sorry, another crash on your thread (from May thread)

Just couldn't resist a look. It's sooooo exciting. Hope you all have a wonderful time and take plenty of messy cake face pictures!

Fennel · 07/04/2005 09:31

mrs d - it would be a good age for dd to have chickenpox, they don't suffer much when they have it young.

dd3 isn't getting a party or many birthday presents at all - I can't think of anything she needs as our house is so full of toddler junk, and am too busy sorting dd1's 5th birthday party this weekend (20 small children, am hoping for sunny weather so we can use the garden).

MrsDoolittle · 07/04/2005 09:43

I'm a bit like with regard to dd's first birthday Fennel. She hasn't a clue and she has loads of toys already. I thought it just me being miserable.

I think we will have some kind of 'get together' but I don't know when yet.

Oh and I also need to get a big cake and chocolate buttons for every one at nursery!

Chuffed · 07/04/2005 09:56

That's one of the reasons we were happy with the timing of dd's being on holiday. For nursery I made banana cake and put it into muffin containers and then cooked it and each child had a muffin to celebrate. It seemed easier to eat that way.
We had a bit of sun in Turkey but not a lot of time to relax and enjoy we were very busy being 'tourists'. Istanbul for the last 4 days was absolutely freezing!
Have a nice day at home MrsD.

On another note about Chicken Pox has anybody done the vaccination against it, while investigating single vaccines one of the clinics also does single chicken pox as well...

TracyK · 07/04/2005 10:12

Keep on ignoring the call for MMR jabs from the docs.

Fennel · 07/04/2005 10:26

even tho we have all the jabs offered I wouldn't personally bother about a chicken pox one. dd1 and dd2 had the pox a year ago and it was only a minor hassle.

if you are not inspired to do first year birthday parties don't worry there will be plenty of time to get into birthdays once they're 3 or 4 when birthday parties are the most exciting thing ever.

Chuffed - did dd enjoy her travelling toys? dd3 used the lack of toys in spain to good effect, I think that's why she got more active as there was less to sit and do. she adored the beach though - will have to put her in the sandpit at home.

Chuffed · 07/04/2005 11:09

she actually didn't think much of the phone at all. She prefers real ones. We took 7 small books which were well used and a small soft toy which did get a few cuddles.
She preferred to be out and about on the pack or climbing stairs in the hotels.

Fennel · 07/04/2005 12:31

dd3 is obsessed with real phones, but not toy ones. she also likes sharp knives and forks (no patronising baby plastic cutlery for her, she just won't use it)

dot1 · 07/04/2005 14:10

ds2 also loves phones and does this really cute thing of putting his hand to the side of his head and saying "hello!" - like he's on the phone!! (not that he's seen him mummies on the phone - a lot...!!)

He's got a fair few words and phrases now - we're finding it completely enchanting because ds1 was completely silent up until 17 months, and then only said 1 word until he was 2!! ds2 just doesn't stop talking and singing!

Fennel · 07/04/2005 14:57

hi dot1!
dd3 is getting quite chatty. today's new word is "kiss" - very sweet.

lunavix · 07/04/2005 15:04

Ds hasn't said hello again so even I am beginning to doubt it!

That was his only word too.... I feel rather envious of all these talking babies!

Chuffed · 07/04/2005 15:28

not a lot of talking going on in our household either and when i asked nursery yesterday if dd talks at all they said no.
She does understand LOTS but doesn't say much.
Maybe it will all just suddenly start.

Fennel · 07/04/2005 15:59

you will probably be surprised one day to realise how much they understand. with dd1 we didn't realise she understood anything til a friend came round when she was about 16 months and asked her to do something and she just did it - we'd had no idea . she was a quiet child. dd2 was very very chatty from about 8 months (still is, incessant verbal diarroeah). dd3 is in between.

dot1 · 07/04/2005 16:01

I must say I'm finding it a completely different experience having ds2 (obviously, I suppose!) - ie we just don't worry about stuff like we did with ds1 - must make for different (better?!) parenting...! I think, although it's hard to say, that if ds2 wasn't talking yet we wouldn't be at all bothered - it would seem normal now and we've seen ds1 come on so much over the last year that it's reassuring to see that on the whole they do all catch up with each other! (having said that we're still stressing over ds1 not being potty trained yet!!)

Chuffed · 07/04/2005 16:46

isn't it easier in summer anyway dot? He can run around in next to nothing so easier to get the kit off to go to the loo.
I read somewhere in all the toddler books I'm reading at the moment that girls tend to be potty trained earlier than boys??? some developmental thing????

Fennel · 07/04/2005 20:07

apparently there's a new book out by the baby whisperer woman which claims that in most of the world babies are toilet trained at about a year - so get training folks

real nappy babies are often earlier as they learn to feel the wet.

dot1 · 07/04/2005 21:31

Hasn't the baby whisperer woman died?? Anyway, I'd like to see anyone persuade my stubborn ds1 to use the toilet - I reckon ds2 will be potty trained before he is..!

dolbear · 07/04/2005 21:40

mmm , i'm not convinced as I am having troule getting ds off the bottle so to speak
no words yet other than 'bye ' with a wave ( a very royal wave ) he is now walking though and can go the whole lengnth of the hallway , cool by tiring and we can not leave the gate open , I did today and found him @ the top ! felt v bad mummy !!
eating is going leaps and bounds though , suddenly he is opening mouth and eating anything without choking on the lumps
fo b-day , though we would celebrate in responsible parent type way and get a load of mate round for beer and BBQ !!- any excuse !
