Morning ladies!

Happy birthday to everyone who's had one recently! Can't believe ds is one on friday - so grown up! What does everyone think about pillows? Giving ds a doona on friday because he's a lot cheerier with blankets than his trusty sleeping bag and we have this lovely matching pillowcase!
Friday is the start of all the new stuff, cows milk, beakers instead of bottles (can't wait to throw them away!) I'm being strict about bibs too, noone uses them anymore and his clothes are kind of reflecting that...

TracyK · 13/04/2005 11:27

Happy Bday for Friday Luvanix.
We're no bibs too - and yes clothes are getting trashed!
Tried ds on spag bol yesterday but I think the spaghetti tickled him. He picked out the peppers, mushrooms and mince.

handlemecarefully · 13/04/2005 11:31

I do bibs when we are out and about and he needs to stay presentable.

Tracyk - I've not trained a boy yet only a girl, but I think they find it easier to sit to wee first? - I shall ask my friend (mum of boy) for clarification!

dolbear · 13/04/2005 11:42

hello
am v bad mummy, I have been using the NO and wagging finger thing for ages , only re radiators , plugs etc and they know EXACTLY what they are doing , or I have v sneaky boy
yuk re illness HM we have a bad week 2 re teeth , last night better , got three hours sleep in 1 go - big improvement !
of course I have such a mad family ds gets to visit alot no one his own age though

lunavix · 13/04/2005 11:49

We do a morning and an afternoon of baby groups, plus monkey music and swimming - but monkey music is only half an hour, (which in total is about 2 hours including getting ready, getting there, getting back!) and swimming is in his dad's lunch break, and again 30 mins but only about an hour of activity as we drive!

I'm thinking of branching out and doing a bit more but not driving is really a pain!

lunavix · 13/04/2005 11:52

Tried the old 'trip to the library, supermarket etc' the other day!

Supermarket never goes down well - ds HATES shopping - he's not my child lol He screams from the second he sees the fluro lights till we leave.

So tried the library the other day - the SMALLEST one I've ever been in theres no room for a buggy especially my mega off road 3 wheel jobbie! Again he screamed and screamed - pausing only to throw a shoe at another toddler!!!!! There was no where to get him out of the pram - no seats and no space and there was ONE board book lol.

I felt so bad he's usually so well behaved and I usually get to feel smug while someone else's child is screaming and throwing things!

TracyK · 13/04/2005 12:06

ds loves the shops! (and make up! hmmmmm!)
Although I usually give him a big plum to munch on and that keeps him happy for 20 mins or so.

re potties (again) - ds poos can still be very milky (and in a huge volume!) - i'm not looking forward to trying the potty!

Chuffed · 13/04/2005 13:43

after reading a few books (ho hum...) I think I'm going to try for the 'toilet' with a baby seat on it when I do it. Probably next summer at a guess.
I was about 2 when potty trained (my mum has everything documented in her plunket book (NZ version of the HV book) so has weight/height etc but also that I was more vocal with words than dd is now.

hunkersneakymunker · 13/04/2005 22:51

Quick update - DS probably has a urinary infection He's been given different antibiotics and even giggled this evening - he's not done that for a few days [hesitantly relieved smile]. Conclusive test results back on Monday, which will possibly mean more tests

Happy Birthday to MiniLunavix for Friday and for all the other April babies who are celebrating this week

LucyJones · 14/04/2005 09:22

Hope your ds gets well soon HM. Does anyone have trouble with naps now that their lo's are so mobile? My ds is really tired but just keeps sitting up in his cot and playing with the mobile. It's driving me mad!! MMR is booked for the 26th. Feel very nervous about it - can't wait til it's over

Chuffed · 14/04/2005 09:47

HM at least you know what it is now though - glad you've had a few smiles. Hope he feels better soon.
LJ - big decision isn't it. Hope it all goes well!
MrsD - hope you are feeling better today or have you resigned...I'm so tempted all the time. Are you still renting? Any chance of moving to somewhere not so much in the 'sticks' so you don't have to commute so much?
Nothing really to report on this end am on my own next week as dh is in New York.

Fennel · 14/04/2005 09:52

Hunkermunker - hope ds is better. dd1 had a whole load of UTIs ending in kidney scans and checks, but she's grown out of them now it seems.

Mrs D how is the job? didn't you use to love it?
if you did give it up could you do part time something to get some more money?

lucyjones, I pin mobile todders into their buggy and stick them in the back garden for a nap if they don't stay still in their cots. but dd3 has never napped in her cot during the day, she just naps while out and about as we're out so much usually.

TracyK · 14/04/2005 14:01

my ds never naps in his buggy - way too nosey.
In the car is my best bet as he's asleep before we get home from nursery at lunchtime. At weekends I put him in my bed and have a 20 mins nap with him then leave him for the rest of the time.
Cot is for nightime only.

MrsDoolittle · 14/04/2005 14:07

Yes, I love my job Fennel. We are considering where we would like to move to to suit both of us. If we moved closer to dh's job we could afford a much nicer house, but it would be too far for me to go to work. If we moved closer to my job we would have to live in a shed and nursery fees are extortionate, I doubt we would have a better quality of life. Makes me feel a little selfish really.

TracyK · 14/04/2005 14:10

what do you do MrsD - could you get something similar/new near dh work?

MrsDoolittle · 14/04/2005 14:25

Not with the fantastic opportunities or great team that I work with
I'm a university lecturer

TracyK · 14/04/2005 14:47

A job is only a job though! I've always loved wherever I've worked - until I move and then its good all over again,
I'm trying to talk dh into moving area - but he works for an american company - so has great perks and gets paid shit loads for playing golf and lunching! I can't really argue with that one -yet!

Fennel · 14/04/2005 15:20

mrs d - what about your idea of moving to a cheaper part of the uk - scotland wasn't it?

Oxford is particularly unaffordable, many places would be cheaper but you'd get paid the same sort of salary as you do elsewhere (scummy old manchester is full of academics on meagre salaries but with big nice houses).

MrsDoolittle · 14/04/2005 19:54

'A job is only a job' is exactly how I used to think Tracey. Until I got this job, I couldn't wait to move onto the next one, I'd get bored after a year. This is the first one that I really enjoy, I keep waiting for the bubble to burst.
Fennel, I know we thought about moving to Scotland, I even went as far as talking to the Dean of the faculty but she just couldn't offer me all the flexibility I have here. All my study would be in my own time, I get that all given to me here. Most of the time I avoid all rush hour traffic and leave dd at nursery at 9.30am, I usually leave work at 4pm! That's no different to most lecturers but I mean, my manager knows how difficult it is and she is really brilliant. It's just soooo bloody expensive! I'm sure it's the same for you, I end up spending time working in the evenings after dd has gone to bed (I must add quickly, before you all think I live the life of Riley! ). Besides, dh wasn't too keen on starting all over again. The fact of it is, both of us might have to. Unless house prices plummet, of course.
I know it sounds like I'm moaning but really, I'm often just thinking and typing whatever just pops into my head IYSWIM??

MrsDoolittle · 14/04/2005 19:58

Reading all that lot, I do sound like an ungrateful moo.
I just want to have my cake and eat it don't I?

TracyK · 14/04/2005 21:15

well you might as well 'aim for the sky' - you only have one life!
Maybe you need to write a list of pros/cons/priorities and maybe a 5 year plan?
You prob won't get 100% satisfaction - you'll have to compromise somewhere along the line - but do whatever combination makes you the happiest and of course for all the family.
I just know I love the thought of bringing up ds in a happy environment, fresh air near the sea. Whereas, although we are in a village, we are far from the sea and the atmosphere feels very grubby.
But I would never get the size of house and garen that I have at the o. Plus I work 4 mins drive from the house.

bluecow · 14/04/2005 21:57

Hello all. Happy birthday April 2004 babies. So sorry haven't posted. No excuse except trying to start a new career which has meant starting work after ds and dd - she's one today!! - have gone to bed and have cooked meal, done all chores etc.
Lovely to read how the little ones are doing. DD is a chatterbox too and her fave word seems to be 'sex'...

Bluecow happy birthday for yesterday and happy birthday to lunavix's and handlemecarefully's boys. Hope you have good days today!

Hugs MrsD we are going through a similar thing at the moment trying to work out when we are going to move back to NZ, the answer depends on whether ttc'ing works or not in the next few months, and money etc too we are going to have to move to a bigger flat at the end of summer and that will basically mean that I work for nothing.
