wow - is that your wedding lunavix? is it all organised?

hewlettsdaughter · 07/05/2005 19:47

lunavix, dd is doing that thing with a trolley full of bricks at the mo. She pushed her brother (5!) in it today - I think the extra weight helped to slow it down!

hewlettsdaughter · 07/05/2005 19:47

no words here, dd has mastered the art of pointing

KristinaM · 07/05/2005 21:36

HD - our Ds can point at things, but that is reserved for things he is telling you about eg look a bird/plane or when he is asking what something is. When he WANTS something he flaps both hands at once and makes a particular noise ( cant think how to write it!!!!). I'm sure i read somewhere that each baby devises their own unique way of indicating that they want something - its amazing isnt it. What does your DD do when she is just pointing something out to you?

hewlettsdaughter · 07/05/2005 21:41

Interesting... dd defintely points when she wants something (usually food!). She kind of grunts in an urgent way too . When she wants to show you something or ask about something I think she looks at it and then me in a questioning manner. There's a grunt in there somewhere too.

KristinaM · 07/05/2005 21:44

HD - do you find that you understand a lot of what your baby "says"? Ds will babble, flap, point, vocalise etc and i will say to his dad/whoever " oh he wants XXX". It seems perfectly obvious to me but no one else seems to get it.

TracyK · 07/05/2005 21:47

ds points at something and goes mamamamammama when he wants it. (usually dragging me to kitchen to point at the fruit bowl for banana or plum).
I think if he flaps his hands and does a little dance he wants something opened/read/played with.
I was v. impressed last week - he was howling after nap and pointing somewhere. After 20 mins trial and error, not banana, not plum, not babybel, not looking out the front door - it clicked - he was pointing upstairs to his bedroom where his medicine box is with hs calpol! - poor baby had sore teeth. 5 mins after spoonful - happy as larry!

MrsDoolittle · 07/05/2005 22:16

Oh dear, nothing anywhere near as advanced happening here! Very vocal and noisy. Infact dd screams if she doesn't get what she wants - can't stand the door being shut infront of her, even if she shuts it herself! So lots of smiling and babbling, and screaming. No cruising, signing, or words yet.
I'm convinced she a prodigy though, she can dance for Britain - with great rythm too!

dolbear · 07/05/2005 22:34

also have werid typr of semaphore language going on although has habit of walking with both hand up towards the sky ( as if in i don't know shrug ) can only think that la la does it a lot

Wiggles rool in this house!

KristinaM · 08/05/2005 22:26

i have a friend ( who is usualy quite sensible) who gave me a big lecture on why letting DD watch teletubbies woudl affect her speech development!!!! I was very pleased to be able to tell her that DDs langauge (both expressive and receptive) has always tested at a year above her chronological age. (she is tested regularly as she has some hearing loss)

Honestly some people just like to wind up other mums!

Hey hey are you ready to play...ect etc

dolbear · 09/05/2005 12:07

sorry tracy , no idea what a wiggle is !!
trying to brain wash ds with the muppets at the mo b-4 he is seduced by the new-fangled pretenders ! elmo is cool
why is it that la la and co use words like 'decrotive ' instead of pretty seeing as they can not do patacake in time ??? one of lifes mysteries

hunkermunker · 09/05/2005 12:10

DS said "thank you" this morning (well, "ank you"), three times, very clear and very in context!

Also had his kidney scan and all clear [phew emoticon] He was really good - sat still, flinched a bit and said "oh!" in surprised tones when the sonographer put the gel on his back, then waved bye-bye to him and the nurse afterwards! [proud mummy emoticon]

dolbear · 09/05/2005 12:45

aahhh HM , am v pleased !! and sooo custe , have managed to create 2 MN converts over the weekend , lent my mums on pg book to my B/friend ( 5 months ) and she has now lent it to her friend , most excellent

Chuffed · 09/05/2005 12:46

so glad all is fine HM.
I love it when they wave bye bye.

Fennel · 09/05/2005 20:10

dolbear I don't tell my friends about mumsnet in case they see what sort of rubbish I spout here

HM glad to hear ds's scan was OK. dd1 had kidney scan last year but she was old enough (4) to not be too stressed about it.

just been reading a thread on headlice. now my head is really itching!

LucyJones · 09/05/2005 20:42

That's a relief HM MrsD - ds also screams when he doesn't get his own way. We're still doing the 'no' in a firm voice but it's not really getting us anywhere to be honest. I'm addicted to all the parenting programmes like Tiny Tearaways and keep getting slight panic attacks about what the future holds

dolbear · 09/05/2005 21:48

oooo tiny tearaways is great ,
i don't mind the creaming its the moaning which sounds like a car trying to start which goes on and on that gets in my head !

TracyK · 10/05/2005 08:02

thank goodness its not just my ds that wants his own way!
think he may be coming down with something. Chickenpox is on the go at nursery and ds was sent home yesterday as he had spots (knew they were the molluscum - but had to go to docs anyway before he was allowed back in). No chickenpox spots agreed doc - but wondering whether he's getting it as he was a bit clingy going into nursery yesterday and woke up at 5.30am crying - he hasn't done that for months! No temp or anything - but snotty so maybe just picked up a cold at the swimming on Sunday. Had to take the day off work yesterday and ended up going into the office at 7pm and am back in again at 7.50am.

Fennel · 10/05/2005 10:52

I haven't seen tiny tearaways but I have fantasies about Supernanny coming to sort us out. I also fantasise about Mary Poppins and Julie Andrews in the sound of music - even tho my dds are quite sweet and well behaved lately (thank goodness dd2 is out of toddlerdom these days).

Chuffed · 11/05/2005 09:06

Well my big news is I just got a BFP this morning so all going well there will be another chuffed jr. It has been a long 7mths before this I must say.
Hope all is well, dd seemed to be really cuddly and kissy this morning maybe she senses something.

Fennel · 11/05/2005 09:15

oh congratulations chuffed

we'll soon have a new generation of april babies little siblings. (except for me but I can join in vicariously with new neice/nephew in november)

Fennel · 11/05/2005 09:15
